INTRODUCTION
National Integration is of great importance in India to enhance the individual
level development in this country and make it a strong country. In order to
make people aware of it completely it is celebrated as an event every year on
19th
of November as National Integration day and National Integration week
from 19th
of November to 25th
November. The real meaning of the integration
is combination of various parts to make it one.
India is a country where people from various regions,
religion, culture, tradition, race, caste, colour and creed are living together,
so, people integration is must in India to make a national integration. If
people from different religions and culture live together by uniting, there will
be no any social or developmental problems. It is known as unity in diversity
in India however it is not true but we have to make it possible.
OBJECTIVES:
 To understand the importance of National Integration.
 To develop the basic values of National Integration through education.
 To analyse and find out the basic elements of National Integration in
India.
 The present problem is states as need for promoting National
Integration.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
India is a land of diversities the people inhabiting this vast content
belong to different races, speak different languages, follow different
religious and observe different social customs and traditions. Their
political affiliations are as varied as their economic interest perhaps no
other developing country, has no much of diversity in dress, race,
religion, language and history of India. The different people who came
to India at different times have added to this complexity that we find in
India this is also Fundamental unity. So the study is very significant.
IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION
IN INDIA
National Integration means the sense of the basic oneness of the nation.
India is a land of diversities. In Spite of the great diversities that we
find in India there is also fundamental unity. National integration
means combination of parts into a whole. India is a country consisting
of a number of regions. If the regions remain united there will be no
problem.
Unity in diversity is the motto of Indian life
and culture. A wide range of diversity in dress, language, culture, food
and manner can be easily noticed among the people of different states
of India. Though the people of India from different states of India are
different in their manners and ways of living they use aware of the
importance of national integration.
HOW TO PROMOTE NATIONAL INTEGRATION
IN INDIA
To achieve this goal every citizen of India must first identify himself or
herself as Indian not as Bengali, Punjabi, South Indian or North Indian.
At present the identification is on the basis of state, language, religion,
caste and cultural but not at all on the basis of country. Being Indian is
our commons identify and we must say it proudly.
Communalism is the greatest challenge that
divides our country. Communalism was greatly encouraged during
British rule as they wanted to rule our country with their divide and
rule policy. Then in 1947, with, the partition communalism played its
ugly role again, killing thousands of innocent peoples. So to promote
national integration and unity, one must leave communalism and think
above his or her religion.
Then we must understand that language is just
a way to communicate but it is not meant to define any personality.
They are born in particular family so they have acquired all the traits of
that family.
They must have followed that faith spoken that language, so it is your
birth defines your religion, not you. We must respect each other’s
language and religion. Due recognition to several languages has been
given by in our constitution. As a responsible citizen we must respect
every language that is spoken in India.
National Integration is actually a harmonious situation
that binds the people of India together. The nation is built by its people
so all the people must live in unity for the development of the nation as
a whole. We must have a common identity as Indians to promote
national integration.
PROBLEMS OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN
INDIA
In India the following hindrances are obstructing the growth of
national feeling, casteism, communalism, linguistic fanaticism, social
disparity, economic inequalities and immorality, regionalism etc.
1. CASTEISM:
Caste is an important part of our Social Fabric, this
was developed in the past on the basis of division of labour in
the society. But now casteism has segregated the society. Unity
and integrity has become a dream in a caste ridden society. The
feeling of socially neglected scheduled caste under the
suppression of upper caste ruined the sense of we feeling and
unity. It becomes a problem for national integration.
2. COMMUNALISM:
India is a land of many religions religion is found to
be one of the factors hampering integration. India is a multi-
religious plant. Political manipulation has projected one religion
against the other which resulted in communal riot, bloodbath,
mutual destruction and disintegration of the country.
3. LINGUISM:
Multi-linguism is one of the important characters of
India. India has fifteen officially recognized languages. These
are about 1652 languages are spoken in India. Which shows it
diversities? Language is a tool for building up national
integration. Unfortunately our language problem is a major
source of dis integration and unity.
4. REGIONALISM:
There are several regions in India having unique
traditions, food, habits, dress and languages. Each regional
differs from the other in one or other ways which leads to
disintegration of the country.
5. SOCIAL DISPARITY:
Social disparity among the people of different
communities, castes and sometime within the community and
caste causes’ tension and imbalance among the people, social
disparity poses great challenge to national integration.
6. ECONOMIC INEQUALITIES:
Economic standard of people in a state depends on
the fertility of land, resources available and manpower
management. All the states are not equal in the above matter
which leads to economic backwardness of the people. Even in a
state distribution of wealth is not properly done. Day by day
poor becoming poorer and rich become richest this causes
tension and conflict. It is a problem for national integration.
ROLE OF EDUCATION IN ACHIEVING
NATIONAL INTEGRATION
CURRICULAR PROGRAMMER:
Our curriculum has laid emphasis on
intellectual development and has neglected emotional
development. Appropriate informs may be introduced in
the curriculum to fill in this gap.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
It is well known that the effective development of children
could be realized through co-curricular activities. In order
to foster attitude of toleration, accommodations and
irresponsibility towards other among pupils frequent
chances of mixing with the people of diverse culture
should be provided.
ROLE OF TEACHER:
Teacher have vital role to play in indicating the
principle of national integration among the people. They
must be living examples of others. The NPF suggest that
teachers of college and university must be selected or the
basis of an all India fest.
National Integration is the feeling of oneness of the nation. Linguistic,
Regionalism, Communalism etc are the hampering factors of
integration of the Indian Society. Promotion of national investigation
must be important aspects of school Curriculum, Achievement of
difference leaders belonging to all section of the society should be
highlighted. A core curriculum including the freedom movement
should be included. It is necessary that is implementing a language
policy.
CONCLUSION
National Integration is the awareness of a common identity amongst
the citizens of a country. It means that though we belong to different
castes, religion and regions and speak different language we recognize
the fact that we are all one. This kind of integration is very important in
the building of a strong and prosperous nation. National Integration is
actually a harmonious situation that binds the people of India together.
The nation is built by its people so all the people must live in unity for
the development of the nation as a whole. We must have a common
identity as Indians to promote National Integration.

  • 4. INTRODUCTION National Integration is of great importance in India to enhance the individual level development in this country and make it a strong country. In order to make people aware of it completely it is celebrated as an event every year on 19th of November as National Integration day and National Integration week from 19th of November to 25th November. The real meaning of the integration is combination of various parts to make it one. India is a country where people from various regions, religion, culture, tradition, race, caste, colour and creed are living together, so, people integration is must in India to make a national integration. If people from different religions and culture live together by uniting, there will be no any social or developmental problems. It is known as unity in diversity in India however it is not true but we have to make it possible.
  • 5. OBJECTIVES:  To understand the importance of National Integration.  To develop the basic values of National Integration through education.  To analyse and find out the basic elements of National Integration in India.  The present problem is states as need for promoting National Integration. NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE India is a land of diversities the people inhabiting this vast content belong to different races, speak different languages, follow different religious and observe different social customs and traditions. Their political affiliations are as varied as their economic interest perhaps no other developing country, has no much of diversity in dress, race, religion, language and history of India. The different people who came to India at different times have added to this complexity that we find in India this is also Fundamental unity. So the study is very significant.
  • 6. IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN INDIA National Integration means the sense of the basic oneness of the nation. India is a land of diversities. In Spite of the great diversities that we find in India there is also fundamental unity. National integration means combination of parts into a whole. India is a country consisting of a number of regions. If the regions remain united there will be no problem. Unity in diversity is the motto of Indian life and culture. A wide range of diversity in dress, language, culture, food and manner can be easily noticed among the people of different states of India. Though the people of India from different states of India are different in their manners and ways of living they use aware of the importance of national integration.
  • 7. HOW TO PROMOTE NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN INDIA To achieve this goal every citizen of India must first identify himself or herself as Indian not as Bengali, Punjabi, South Indian or North Indian. At present the identification is on the basis of state, language, religion, caste and cultural but not at all on the basis of country. Being Indian is our commons identify and we must say it proudly. Communalism is the greatest challenge that divides our country. Communalism was greatly encouraged during British rule as they wanted to rule our country with their divide and rule policy. Then in 1947, with, the partition communalism played its ugly role again, killing thousands of innocent peoples. So to promote national integration and unity, one must leave communalism and think above his or her religion. Then we must understand that language is just a way to communicate but it is not meant to define any personality. They are born in particular family so they have acquired all the traits of that family. They must have followed that faith spoken that language, so it is your birth defines your religion, not you. We must respect each other’s language and religion. Due recognition to several languages has been given by in our constitution. As a responsible citizen we must respect every language that is spoken in India. National Integration is actually a harmonious situation that binds the people of India together. The nation is built by its people so all the people must live in unity for the development of the nation as a whole. We must have a common identity as Indians to promote national integration.
  • 8. PROBLEMS OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN INDIA In India the following hindrances are obstructing the growth of national feeling, casteism, communalism, linguistic fanaticism, social disparity, economic inequalities and immorality, regionalism etc. 1. CASTEISM: Caste is an important part of our Social Fabric, this was developed in the past on the basis of division of labour in the society. But now casteism has segregated the society. Unity and integrity has become a dream in a caste ridden society. The feeling of socially neglected scheduled caste under the suppression of upper caste ruined the sense of we feeling and unity. It becomes a problem for national integration. 2. COMMUNALISM: India is a land of many religions religion is found to be one of the factors hampering integration. India is a multi- religious plant. Political manipulation has projected one religion against the other which resulted in communal riot, bloodbath, mutual destruction and disintegration of the country. 3. LINGUISM: Multi-linguism is one of the important characters of India. India has fifteen officially recognized languages. These are about 1652 languages are spoken in India. Which shows it diversities? Language is a tool for building up national integration. Unfortunately our language problem is a major source of dis integration and unity.
  • 9. 4. REGIONALISM: There are several regions in India having unique traditions, food, habits, dress and languages. Each regional differs from the other in one or other ways which leads to disintegration of the country. 5. SOCIAL DISPARITY: Social disparity among the people of different communities, castes and sometime within the community and caste causes’ tension and imbalance among the people, social disparity poses great challenge to national integration. 6. ECONOMIC INEQUALITIES: Economic standard of people in a state depends on the fertility of land, resources available and manpower management. All the states are not equal in the above matter which leads to economic backwardness of the people. Even in a state distribution of wealth is not properly done. Day by day poor becoming poorer and rich become richest this causes tension and conflict. It is a problem for national integration.
  • 10. ROLE OF EDUCATION IN ACHIEVING NATIONAL INTEGRATION CURRICULAR PROGRAMMER: Our curriculum has laid emphasis on intellectual development and has neglected emotional development. Appropriate informs may be introduced in the curriculum to fill in this gap. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: It is well known that the effective development of children could be realized through co-curricular activities. In order to foster attitude of toleration, accommodations and irresponsibility towards other among pupils frequent chances of mixing with the people of diverse culture should be provided. ROLE OF TEACHER: Teacher have vital role to play in indicating the principle of national integration among the people. They must be living examples of others. The NPF suggest that teachers of college and university must be selected or the basis of an all India fest. National Integration is the feeling of oneness of the nation. Linguistic, Regionalism, Communalism etc are the hampering factors of integration of the Indian Society. Promotion of national investigation must be important aspects of school Curriculum, Achievement of difference leaders belonging to all section of the society should be highlighted. A core curriculum including the freedom movement should be included. It is necessary that is implementing a language policy.
  • 11. CONCLUSION National Integration is the awareness of a common identity amongst the citizens of a country. It means that though we belong to different castes, religion and regions and speak different language we recognize the fact that we are all one. This kind of integration is very important in the building of a strong and prosperous nation. National Integration is actually a harmonious situation that binds the people of India together. The nation is built by its people so all the people must live in unity for the development of the nation as a whole. We must have a common identity as Indians to promote National Integration.
