National integration refers to the basic oneness and sense of identity among all citizens of a nation. It has two aspects - political unity and emotional unity. However, factors like linguism, regionalism, communalism, casteism, and parochialism can hamper national integration. Unifying forces include territorial compactness, shared culture and civilization, and a feeling of sacredness for the motherland. Education can play a role in achieving national integration through curriculum, co-curricular activities, training in democracy and secularism, and the influence of teachers.
