•Education for International understanding
(EIU) is a value based approach to education.
The world has become a global village and
we all are global citizens.
•Therefore, it becomes important to teach
our younger kids in schools, the values of
“learning to live together”.
MEANING OF INTERNATIONAL
UNDERSTANDING
• International understanding is the ability to
observe critically and objectively and appraise the
conduct of man everywhere to each other ,
irrespective of the nationality of culture to which
they belong.
• Education for International Understanding means
a cosmopolitan education which will produce
loyalty to world citizenship.

INTERNATIONAL
UNDERSTANDING:
• “International understanding is a feeling that the
individual is not only a member of his state , but a
citizen/member of the world.

another’s must work for racial harmony. We may be

awareness.

INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
1. Cultivation in the youth the power of independent
thinking.
2. Training our young man to use their knowledge.
3. Correct meaning of patriotism.
4. The principle of inter dependence.
5. Elimination of fear from individual and social life.
6. Individual and social consciousness.
7. Principle of corporate life.
FUNCTIONS OF UNESCO IN PROPAGATING
INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
1.Removal of fear and disbelief from different
nations.
2.Removal of illiteracy and poverty from
backward nations.
3.Exchange of cultural, scientific, literary and
artistic achievements of nations
4.Encouragement to research.
5.Teachers, scientists and educationists to

7. Scrutiny and preparation of standard books.
8. Organization of international exhibitions.
9. Xchange of teachers and students among
different nations.

There is great need of international understanding to
defeat poverty and to bring prosperity among the nations
of the world.
• We will have to wipe off the differences and conflicts for
