INTRODUCTION
One of the challenging tasks for a teacher of
mathematic is to create interest and maintaininterest
among his student among his student. The
development and maintenance of interest in
mathematics become an important concern of the
mathematics teacher. A resourceful mathematics
teacher can make use of good number of methods
and techniques for arousing and sustaining interest in
mathematics. Learning mathematics is an informal
way through recreational and fun filled activities in an
important means of non formal mathematics
education.
The teacher of mathematics can provide variant
activities that could sustain the student’s interest and
promote students mathematical learning. Such
method includes organization of mathematics club.
The mathematics clubs promote awareness of
advancements being made in mathematics and aims
to educate its members.

MATHEMATICS CLUB
A mathematics club plays an
important role in motivating the students to learn mathematics
with interest and involvement. Some times mathematics
teaching in classrooms becomes monotonous . mathematics
club provide excellent opportunities for students to break
away from the monotony of a rigid and structured classroom
environment. Through the learning that take place in a
mathematics club is informal in nature. It is meaningful as the
stress is on practical application . In mathematics club the
student chooses the activities on his own and pursue them on
his own interest in a free and relaxed manner contrary to the
atmosphere prevailing in a classroom. Club provides of lot of
freedom of expression for the students and supplement
classroom learning .
7
FUNCTION OF MATHEMATICS CLUB
 Mathematicsclub help in the proper utilizationof
leisure time.
 It helpsin arousing and maintainingstudents in
mathematics
 It provides the students with opportunities to develop
their explorative, creative and inventivefaculties
 It provides an informal and social atmosphere which
the classroom can hardly provide.
 It helpsin developingheuristic and problem solving
attitude among the students
 It inculcatesthe habit of self study and independent
work among student.
 It offers an idealavenue for a free exchange of
mathematicalideas and for frank and helpful criticism
of these ideas
 It helpsto meet individualneedsof the students as
every member gets an opportunityto work in his
areas of interest.
8
AIMS OF MATHEMATICS CLUB
 To developinterest of students for learning
mathematics.
 To developco- operative sprit in group learning.
 To collaboratewith mathematics club of our
school.
 To inculcatefeeling of discovery and
development.
 To make student s mathematics minded.
 To developcritical thinkingand logical reasoning
power among the student.
 To provide opportunityto learn great
mathematicianand their contribution.
 To keep in touch the entire student with day to
day inventionin the field of mathematics.
9
ACTIVITIES OF MATHEMATICS CLUB
 Organizing interclass interschool competitions
on some interesting mathematicaltopics.
 Arranging lectures of the renowned mathematics
teacher or scholar.
 Celebrating days and events related to great
mathematician.
 Organizing mathematics library.
 Organizing mathematicalexhibitionsor fair.
 Organizing seminars and career courses relating
to mathematics.
 Arranging guidance programme for the needy
and weak students.
 Conductingrelated project activities.
 Making charts, models, picture, graph etc for the
mathematicslibrary.
 Preparing item for wall magazine.
 Organizing paper reading contests about certain
important topic of mathematics.
10
ORGANISATION OF MATHEMATICS CLUB
A properly organized mathematics club will be a
valuable aid to teaching mathematics and also a means of
motivating the children for learning mathematics. Proper
running of a club the most important thing is the preparation
of a draft constitution of the club. This draft is prepared by the
mathematics teacher in consultation with the head of the
institution. For efficient and successful working of mathematics
club an export body has suggested to organizationas under.
PATRON : The mathematics club should have
the head of the institutionsits
patron.
SPONSOR : One of the senior mathematics
teachers can be the sponsor of the
mathematicsclub.
MEMBERS : All the mathematics students of the
school can be the members of the
club.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: An executive committee should be
formed including following
members elected or nominated
from among the students
11
 Chairman
 Secretary
 Assistant secretary
 Treasure
 One or two class
representatives from each class
NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF MATHEMATICS CLUB
The mathematicsclub can serve a number of
purposes. These purpose or values show the need and
importance of this club. These values are,
 It inculcatesthe habit of self- study and
independentwork among the students.
 It supplementsclassroom teaching.
 It enhances co-operationbetween the teacher
and the taught.
 It provides the students with opportunitiesto
develop theirexplorative, creative and
inventivefaculties.
 It provides opportunitiesfor students to
translate the theory into practice and apply
their learning in daily life situation.
12
 It helpsto meet individualneed of of the
students as every member gets an opportunity
to work in his area of interest
 It provides opportunitiesto the child for
freedom of thought and free exchange of
different views.
 It provides first hand experiences to the
learners as they participate in model making,
arranging for exhibition,fieldwork, laboratory
work and so on.
13
CONCLUSION
Mathematics provides ample opportunities for
fun and recreation. Mathematics game and puzzles open
up avenues for learning mathematics in a lucid and relaxed
manner. The success of a mathematics club depends upon
the enthusiasm shown by the teacher as well as the
involvement of the student in the activities and programs
organized by the club. The use of these methods makes
the students perfect in scientific jobs and developing their
self confidence. The mathematics club will create among
the students an idea of the practicability of mathematics in
addition to creating their interest in mathematics. Also a
number of interesting programs can be organized under
the auspices of mathematics club.
