Tried-and-Tested Strategies That Form Students’ Character: Empathy, Resilience and Grit
The document discusses bullying in schools and provides definitions and examples of different types of bullying. It identifies characteristics of both bullies and victims of bullying. The document also outlines programs and initiatives implemented by Saugus Public Schools to prevent bullying and help students identify and report instances of bullying. These include anti-bullying assemblies, classroom lessons, newsletters for parents, and guidance counselor training.
The document discusses socialization in rural and suburban communities. In a rural community, children have more opportunities for outdoor play and exploration. They develop independence interacting with nature. Socialization is mainly with family through affective and observational methods. The community celebrates together through seasonal events. In a suburban community, children have freedom to explore but also learn self-control. They learn social roles through interactions with peers. Schools provide cognitive development. Families celebrate holidays individually rather than as a community.
Raising Children of Character www.mannrentoy.comMann Rentoy
This document discusses the importance of character formation for youth in today's society. It argues that parents and teachers must work harder than past generations to develop good character due to societal changes. These include a culture of softness, increased peer influence, and more time spent with media and technology. The document provides tips for parents, such as limiting screen time, modeling good values, and teaching delayed gratification. It emphasizes the role of the family in shaping a child's conscience and advocates for countercultural parenting to develop strong character.
Ashoka's Youth Venture aims to build a global movement of young people being powerful now, changemakers now. This is the foundation for an "everyone a changemaker" world, the key factor for success for every society, organization, and person.
A little over a year ago we introduced the world to Generation Edge, the generation after Millennials and one we feel is unlike any other...
...this generation are resilient, self-starting reformers. They’ve got a view of the way they want the world to be and understand that they are going to have to be the ones to change it!
We like to think of 2014 as the year of Edge and the talented, tenacious, tech-empowered guys and girls you’ll see over the next 20 pages exemplify what Edge is all about, they are....quite literally, changing the world as we know it!

This PowerPoint presentation discusses rules for pronoun agreement. It explains that pronouns must agree with their antecedents in number and gender. Some key points include: pronouns like it/its and they/them differ in singular and plural forms; indefinite pronouns like everyone are always singular; and when fixing agreement errors, avoid sexist language.
Bullying Prevention A Rite Of Passage ProgramLinda_J2012
Bullying Prevention, a "Rite of Passage". A Presentation that emphases the importance of reducing bullying in schools by developing curriculm that incorporates community involvement.
This document discusses strategies for making diversity and inclusion a priority in the classroom. It notes that many teachers from suburban communities are not properly prepared to teach students of color in urban schools. The document outlines some of the challenges faced by students in underfunded inner city schools, such as lack of resources and inequality of educational opportunities. It stresses that teachers must be willing to confront their own prejudices and assumptions in order to provide all students with a quality education. The document provides examples of strategies to involve parents and make them feel welcome at school. It also discusses culturally relevant teaching approaches and the importance of viewing each student as an individual rather than through stereotypes.
1) Education has a major influence on gender identity formation from a young age by categorizing students into "girls" and "boys" groups and tracking them into gendered subjects and careers.
2) Even today, schools still promote traditional gender roles through images in textbooks, toys marketed to children, and gender imbalances in subjects and administrators.
3) To build better gender relations, schools should move beyond single-sex approaches and focus on making the entire learning environment more inclusive, supportive, and critical of assumptions around gender.
Gender socialization is the process through which children learn behaviors, attitudes, and norms associated with their gender from various social agents. Parents, teachers, peers, and media all contribute to gender socialization from a young age by modeling different expectations for boys and girls. Parents often engage in different activities with sons and daughters that demonstrate masculinity and femininity. Teachers and schools may unintentionally reinforce gender stereotypes through separating students or disciplining them differently based on gender. Peers also teach children appropriate behavior for their gender through play and interactions. Media conveys gender roles and can strengthen stereotypes about what it means to be a boy or girl.

Education has a major influence on identity development from a young age. It plays a role in how gender identity is taught and constructed in society. Throughout history, only certain groups had access to higher education based on factors like gender, wealth, and race. Today, subjects and majors remain dominated by one gender. While more women now attend college, education institutions still influence concepts of masculinity and femininity. Issues like bullying, peer pressure, and harassment police gender norms. Reform is needed to create a more inclusive, equitable learning environment that empowers all students.
Importance Of After-School Programs EssayLaura Arrigo
The document discusses the importance of after-school programs for children ages 6-17. It notes that after-school programs are beneficial as they are cost effective, help reduce juvenile crime rates, and raise academic success. Originally, after-school programs were developed in response to changes in child labor laws and school schedules that left children unsupervised in the afternoon. Today, after-school programs provide a fulfilling and nurturing environment for children and help address their needs in the hours after school lets out.

This document discusses how education shapes gender identity from a young age. It notes that until the 1900s, only wealthy white women could obtain higher education. Subjects and majors tended to be dominated by one gender. While women now outnumber men in college, textbooks and curriculum still promote gender stereotypes. Issues like bullying, harassment, and lack of support for those who don't conform to gender norms persist. The document argues that education should move beyond single-sex models and focus on inclusive, supportive, and critical learning environments for all.

Start Empathy is a global
network of social entrepreneurs, educators, thought leaders, parents, young people, business leaders, journalists, universities, philanthropists and others who are connecting, collaborating, and aligning knowledge and resources to make empathy learning a norm, particularly in childhood.
Schools, peers, and media can influence child development in several ways. In schools, teachers encourage academic success and involvement, while school characteristics like size can impact anonymity and individualized learning. Peers aid socialization through play and modeling behaviors, both desirable and undesirable. Media provides messages that can influence cognition, behaviors, and beliefs, though content varies in its impacts - violence increases aggression while educational programs teach skills. Social-emotional theories examine how these factors shape social and emotional development.
The document discusses Smart Bullying, an anti-bullying campaign focused on disabled children. It notes that bullying victims are often those without power to defend themselves, such as intelligent children without many friends or those with disabilities. The campaign aims to educate students and bring awareness to bullying of disabled children from a young age to create a fair environment. Key events include presentations in schools, competitions involving singing, poems and art for disabled and non-disabled students, and a talk show to empower disabled children. The goal is to foster unity, respect and awareness.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

8. IMPACT
“We have already begun to see changes in our students. One student went up to another right after the movie to apologize for the way she had treated
the other student in the past. Another student admitted to a teacher that he realized he has sometimes shown bully-like behavior. We’ve also seen a
higher awareness of bullying behavior. If a student is teasing someone, either the student being teased or another student is much more likely to speak
up and point out that behavior as bullying. As a teacher, I try to make my classroom a safe, bully-free environment, but the movie has pushed me to
think about this even more and try to improve how I handle conflict between students. The movie has not solved all of our problems, but seeing it has
really helped us and our students make changes that we know will last well into the future.”
- 1 Million Kid Teacher Participant
I am 11 years old. My whole 6th grade class saw the Bully movie and dedicated a whole day to discussing it. I saw the movie 3 days before the field trip
and found it so touching I cried almost the whole time. I have been bullied before and I know how it fells. I have been called gay, fat, ugly etc. I used to
get really upset about it but now I move on and say “I DON’T care what they think. I care what I think!” You are so brave to be a part of the Bully movie! I
applaud you for being such a brave person you are what the world needs more of. At my school’s discussions you were by far the most talked about person
your story has inspired so many kids at my school and I feel that bullying has decreased at my school, it’s still there but less of it. You change people.
KEEP ON FIGHTING YOU WILL WIN AND YOU ALREADY HAVE BEAT SO MANY PEOPLE. YOU ROCK!!! GO KELBY GO!!!
P.S. - You have helped me mature so much as a person.
P.P.S - This movie needs to be shown to all 7.6 billion members of this planet.
