Importance of After-School Programs Essay
Importance of After–School Programs "There are approximately forty nine million children and
youth, ages 6–17 living in the U.S." ("Making the Case" 1). Children need care while they are in the
initial stages of growth and development. Whether this care is provided by a mother, father, sibling,
or other guardian, a child needs to be loved. When children turn a certain age, the care of the family
is added to by caregivers in another institution. While attending school, children are shown care for
the duration of the day by teachers, mentors, and other aids. This is a productive time for the
children's development because they are being nurtured in a well rounded, safe environment. This
environment provides initial academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a solution to assisting the needs of unsupervised children in the hours after school. With
effort, there is a place that can provide a fulfilling and nurturing environment for the children that
could otherwise be left in danger. After– school programs are increasing in number, and are catering
to different children's interests and needs. After– school programs, such as The Bridge Project are
important for children ages 6–17 because they are cost effective, reduce juvenile crime rates, and
raise academic success. These results are granted through attendance, providing enriching
experiences, and extending academics into the after– school hours. After– school programs have
been around for long time. However, their initial purpose was different than what is demanded in
today's society. The after school program was originally developed in urban communities in
response to the decline in child labor and the rise in mandatory schooling. This combination altered
the day of an urban child. The child would go to school, and come home with nothing to do. They
could not work anymore because of child labor laws. With this being a new law, parents did not
know what to do with their children because they had to work into the late hours of the evening.
Also, urban housing had unkempt, undesirable conditions for living. This caused many

The Effect Of Television Exposure On The Behavior Of...
Part 1: Outline The Similarities And Differences Between The Studies – Bandura et al. (1963) &
Hayne et al. (2003)
Introduction
The impact of television exposure is relatively unknown in the recent decades. Therefore, large
number of studies has been considered in order to find out the impact of television exposure on the
behaviour of infants or children. According to the classic studies conducted by Bandura et. al
(1963), the 3 to 5 years children continuously observe the aggressive behaviour of adult. Then they
carry out the same aggressive behaviour in front of children, doll or other toys.
Consequently, children imitate the aggressive behaviour of the actor, and mimic it in the presence of
other children. Comparatively, Hayne et. al (2003) states that 4 to15 month old imitate limited
actions demonstrated by videotaped models. Hence, the focus of this task is on the difference and
similarities between the studies of Bandura et al. (1963) & Hayne et al. (2003).
Discussion
Bandura et. al (1963) & Hayne et. al (2003)
The article "Imitation of film–mediated aggressive model"' is written by Albert Bandura, Dorothea
Ross, and Sheila A. Ross in 1963. On the basis of the article carried out by Bandura et. al (1963, p.
4), it is examine that 3 to 5 years old children continuously observe the aggressive behaviour of
adult. Then they conduct the same aggressive behaviour in front of doll or other toys. This shows
that aggressive behaviour of parents put adverse and negative impact

Ethical Issues In Social Work
Part A Jill is a social work student working under her field instructor, Jack, who is a registered social
worker employed within Child and Youth Services (CYS) in St. John's, NL. In child protection,
social workers have a number of duties to complete under the Children and Youth Care and
Protection Act. These duties include handling reported referrals. This means receiving information
from an outside source who is reporting that they believe child abuse may be occurring, normally in
a family home. The social worker then proceeds to action this referral, which means going out to
observe/interview the family and the child, to determine if there is in fact child abuse occurring

Bullying And Its Effect On Children
causing this behavior. Primary school is an especially tough time for our young ones. If educators
are really looking to put an end to bullying, they have to attack it from the root of the problem
(Linder–Altman). What a child is wearing will not get them bullied, it depends on the bully. Making
uniforms mandatory in efforts to decrease bullying, only teaches our children that the only way to be
accepted is by conforming which is not what we should be pushing for. It's important to attack the
problem by the root. A lot of times the bully may be going through something in their life outside of
school which is causing them to lash out at others. If all the school systems do to fix bullying is
make their students wear uniforms, then what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In School Uniforms and discourses on childhood, Bodine is looking at the change in apparent
behavior of students once they are introduced to uniforms. Erik Erikson was a German–born
psychoanalyst who studied the ego, personal and social identities. He believed that between the ages
of six and twelve children acquire new skills and knowledge which develop a sense of industry
(Darwin 15). In this stage children build on their sense of self–worth as well as their confidence.
This is also a very social stage for the child. It is in this stage where self–esteem issues may arise
due to feelings of inadequacy. With that being said, we run the risk of our children feeling like they
have to conform in order to be accepted as if they won't be liked because they rather wear clothing
of their own choice.
In School Uniforms and Discourses on Childhood, Behling's drive to look into the effects uniforms
have on children was the fact that everyone has rights, no matter their age. Her views on how the
school systems are just simply masking the problem rather than trying to solve them are similar to
mine. Bodine also uses her past conversations with students who feel they're stuck in the middle of
this whole battle. One of the children admitted to feeling like a ping–pong ball being bounced
between their parents and their school (Behling 423). Studies which survey clothing have shown
that what someone wears is a critical factor of person perception

. Summarise the Historical Changes in Childhood Experience...
There is little evidence of what it was really like in the past so it is difficult for a lot of people to re–
construct the life of a child, however from what I have researched, and in my own opinion I am
going to summarise the historical changes in childhood experience and relate these changes to
childhood development and rights.
In the 19th century I think children missed out on most of their childhood as most of them took on
jobs such as chimney sweepers, street sellers and farms for example. These were mainly children
from poor families who were seen as extra farm hands and were exploited by receiving low pay for
long hours and working in poor conditions. Families did not look at how the children were treated
and the possible impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also from what my grandad has told me, back then they weren't allowed to express themselves as
they would get emotional and physical abuse towards them, so they just carried on with everyday
life.
They was wealthy families and was a lot easier from them as they had the money to attend a private
school or was home–schooled. They were also encouraged to donate money and goods to the poor.
Kerry Woolford
Even though a legislation was drawn up and improved childhood education, healthcare and welfare,
children were and even now in modern society around the world are being taken advantage of for
monetary gain.
Modern society now especially since 1997 have tried putting children first such as committing to
meeting children's needs. There are still problems such as school truancy, adolescents not in
education or training and also child protection as there have been tragic deaths including baby P and
Victoria climbie, which her death was largely responsible for the formation of every child matters

CU1520: PROMOTE CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON DEVELOPMENT. 1.1 Explain the factors
that need to be taken into account when assessing development. When assessing a child you must be
careful to take into account confidentiality before carrying out an observation you must have parents
and the settings permission and not to leave confidential material lying around they must be secured
in a locked cabinet. Only talk to authorized personal about confidential material. This confidentially
can only be broken when a child is at real risk. When carrying out observations you must take

CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON DEVELOPMENT 2.3 Explain the importance of a person centred
and inclusive approach and give example of how this is implemented in own work. Any plan that
involves supporting an individual should be focused on their needs and interest and wherever
possible the children should be involved in the planning process. A child centred planning takes into
consideration what is best for the child as well as how it might engage and involve the child. It is
also important in planning that a child is not segregated from others but consider ways in which
other children can become involved in the activity too. CU1520 PROMOTE CHILD AND YOUNG

Is Canada A Multicultural Country?
Having and raising children is one of our basic human rights, or is it? What is the correct way to
raise a child? Who gets to decide whether or not it is being done appropriately? Should a parent
have the freedom to instill their family 's values on their own children, or should the current
government dictate the values we pass generationally down to our offspring? Opinions on this topic
are innumerable. Canada is a multicultural country, by its very nature we will have diversity in the
way our children are raised. Due to the lack of cohesion between the government and parents views
on raising children, it has been very confusing for the next generation to know what is expected of
them. It has been said that the next generation lacks hope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The child had received this punishment for her disobedience to her father 's rules, the child won the
case! What message does this send to our children? Most children will not like or agree with the
punishment meted out by the parent, should we fill the courts with children suing their parents? The
message we are sending our children is that we do not have control over how we raise them, the
government can over rule the decisions we make concerning them. I am by no means advocating
abusive behaviour in parenting yet, by whose perception do we evaluate whether or not our actions
are abusive? Any kind of discipline can feel abusive to a child who is not mature enough to make
proper judgments on their own. Each culture will have different ways of dealing with discipline and
in a multicultural country we should respect the methods as long as they are not abusive.
Parenting styles have been split into three categories, let us take a closer look at each. If you
remember the phrase "because I said so", you were probably raised by an authoritarian style. Very
strict rules which were not up for discussion or explanation probably ruled your childhood. Children
in this type of environment were being raised to follow the rules and not to question authority.
Corporal punishment was more than likely a part of this upbringing. At the other end of the
spectrum, if you felt like your parents were your friends they probably parented in a more
permissive style. They were

Markisha Carter/ Unit Two "B" Essay Amy Chua is obviously very opinionated. There is a lot of
controversy surrounding her memoir, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, in which she was very harsh
towards her daughters and made it clear that her parenting methods were better than those of a
Western parent. There is no manual on parenting, but how do we know when we as parents cross the
line between being concerned for our child's future and being overbearing? Being a parent myself, I
know firsthand that it gets frustrating and sometimes, that inner control can be lost. Amy
demonstrated this challenge plenty of times. I acknowledge that Amy may have thought she was

One can't help but wonder how Amy and Jed had such a successful marriage. I'm pretty sure Jed
disagreed with Amy more than she let on in the book. According to her, "Besides, I was at a
disadvantage because I had an American husband who believed that childhood should be fun" (46).
Amy knew this, yet she still didn't let the girls have fun. Maybe Jed should have pushed her to be
more outgoing and spontaneous. According to Dr. Jim Taylor, there are three qualities a parent must
possess to raise healthy children: calmness, persistence, and toughness (Taylor, Three Words). Chua
was not so good in the calmness department. Tough love is often given to children having behavioral
problems as they grow older but this did not apply to Sophia and Lulu. Why was all of that "tough
love" being given to them? In a way, Amy could have been living her dreams through the girls. But
if she wanted to be a professional musician, she should have done so. Instead, she pushed the girls to
do something without ever asking them if it was what they wanted to do. Lulu let her have it when
she said to her mother "Mommy, I get it. I've watched you and listened to your lectures a thousand

of playing the Tudors (old English royal family). The flashbacks are between the years 1973 and

The first word, divorced, can be used to illustrate how she and her brother takes distance from each

illustrate the death of Terry. Not only does Sarah lose him but the other children too. They are
avoiding Sarah. And at last the word survived, can be used to show the Sarah survives. The title
becomes a symbol on that even if someone close to us dies, we have to keep on with our lives and
not let it be a burden for the rest of our lives. Even though that it how Sarah's is living her life.
In the story Sarah has a huge burden. She keeps the death of her brother a secret to protect the
childlike innocence of her children. But her attempt on hiding it is in vain, because Coco and Mark
already know about Uncle Terry. But it's not just to protect her children it's also about protecting
herself because the death of Terry still effect her. Maybe that's why that Mark reacts the same way as
her mother when Peter died. I can conclude from this story that the only way to get over the loss of a
loved one is through talking with another person.

Child Labour and Ethics Essay
Utilitarianism
We have all heard that child labour is a bad thing, however, lets try and think – is it, really?
By introducing child labour companies save millions of dollars which are passed to the consumer as
a cheaper price on products they buy from our firm, if there are more profits there are more taxes
paid to the Government. By having better profit margins our company is able to pay bigger
dividends to shareholders thus giving them a better return on their investment and making them
richer.
And to top it off, the children are not being forced to work – they are working out of their free will

it.

I can say with great pride that our company, or in fact any company that uses child labour helps poor
people in these kind of situation. A child that has no parents will have his chance to make his own
living, which otherwise would have been minimal – children in these circumstances either die or
turn to a life of crime which ends them in prison.
Our company gives alternative choice to children in need when the governments cannot support
them.
And if your family or if you are a single parent struggling to put food on the table and have a place
where to live – why not let your child help you do that? Why shouldn't he be able to help if you are
really struggling?
And the good thing is – children become mature at younger age, they begin to understand the cost
of living and that nothing in life is free, which in turn will help them become better, more hard–
working and appreciative individuals in the future.
So, yes – I do think that our company is doing Good to societies that really need

Essay about Parents Hitting Their Children
Parents Hitting Their Children
For this coursework, I will be looking at whether parents should be allowed to hit their children or
children that are being looked after by them.
Like most questions there are usually two sides to the argument.
The 1st reason why parents should be allowed to hit their kids is to enforce a form of discipline.
The other reason why hitting children is bad is because by hitting a child, they may be emotionally
scared for life.
Many people have different views on this topic; some are "for" it, some are "against" it.
The United Nations (UN) as a violation of basic human rights have condemned the national U.K.

It says that some forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

For example, confiscating their toys wouldn't be as effective because the parents may eventually
give the toys back or may give into the child's request.
Other parents argue that hitting your child is wrong.
This is because hitting the child may upset them even after the discipline has been enforced.
Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make the child form
hatred towards the parent.
Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can lose their temper
in the heat of the moment and can't physically stop themselves from doing it.
Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem.
When I was a child, my parents used to discipline me by hitting me but only if I behaved very badly.
Looking back on it now, it wasn't so bad because they only ever hit me when I was naughty and I
was never emotionally or physically hurt from it. I was only physically hurt for a moment but I
guess that's one of the reasons why I behaved.
Over time I eventually learnt how to behave the way my parents wanted me to so the hitting
stopped. This made me the person I am today. I consider myself lucky compared to other children
who have been treated badly or hurt from their parents'

heading up to. Reading II Timothy 3:1–10 and Matthew 24 makes us aware that this world, apart
from God, is heading towards turmoil! How then can we give hope and assure ourselves that our
children will have a brighter future? My purpose in bringing this message is to reinforce to you, as

How should we train our children?
I. THE SYSTEM THAT WE SHOULD EMPLOY IN TRAINING OUR CHILDREN. There must
be a dedication. The word "chanak" translated "train" occurs 5 times in the Old Testament. It is
found twice in Deut. 20:5; I Kings 8:63–where Solomon dedicated, "chanak" the temple. In II
Chronicles 7:5– Solomon dedicated the temple and here in Proverbs 22:6. It is similar to our
"ground–breaking" ceremony. There must be excitement and enthusiasm in doing the training of our
children.
Application:
There must be discernment of the child's habits, interests, moods, inclinations and attitudes. We
must consider the child's individuality and inclinations when we give our instructions to
inexperienced children. These directives should be in keeping with the degree of our child's moods.
It is necessary to know and understand our child's moods. There must be discipline, personal touch
and connection. Don't depend upon your yayas, parents. Brothers and even public and private
teachers to train your children. Don't delegate your duty to other people the privilege of training
your children
Personal Story:
Application: have a firm exhortation, faithful example and consistent emphasis in your life. II. THE
SUBJECTS THAT WE SHOULD EMPHASIZE IN THE TRAINING OF OUR CHILDREN The
first thing to train our children is the subject of Reverence to God. Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of

Essay on the secret to raising smart kids
ESSAY 1 Do you think intelligence is a fixed trait? If you do, then you might be one of many people

describes fixed and growth mind–sets. She describes how they affect school, and how they affect
social relationships as well. The two central ideas of "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids" are that
fixed mind–sets can make a person shy away from a challenge and that growth mind–sets can be put

from hard work...descriptions [like that] of great mathematicians who fell in love with math and
developed amazing skills engenders a growth mind–set," (Dweck, 171–175). Encouraging a growth
mind–set allows for a child to have more success in their school life as well as in their social life as
a result of motivation and the willingness to be challenged and learn. The two main ideas of "The
Secret to Raising Smart Kids" are that fixed minded people are less likely to accept a challenge than
growth minded people and that parents can do their part to help their child have a successful life by
implanting a growth mind–set in their child's brain. If more parents raised their children as growth
minded individuals, this world would improve significantly.
ESSAY 2 Both Carol S. Dweck and Annie Murphy Paul use the term intelligence in their essays, but
they have slightly different meanings. While Carol S. Dweck uses the term intelligence as a measure
of how smart someone is that can be expanded through effort, while Annie Murphy Paul uses
intelligence in the same manner (a measure of how smart someone is), but in how it can be
suppressed. Carol S. Dweck uses intelligence as a form of measurement that measures how heavy of
a workload someone can receive and understand, and how it can be expanded through effort. In an

Normalization Through Montessori Method
Explain how normalization occurs including changes in the work cycle.
Describe the normalized child.
Dr. Montessori used the term normalization to distinguish one of the processes that she saw in her
work with the children at San Lorenzo in Rome. This process, the process of normalization, occurs
when development is proceeding normally. She used the word normalization as she believed that
these wonderful traits, these impressive qualities belonged to all children and was not a
characteristic found only in some children.
Through her work at Casa dei Bambini, Dr. Montessori observed an extraordinary change in her
students. When the children first came to her school, they were completely traumatized. Neither

The movement and the thought involved in the preparation of the mind to begin to focus on the
activity. The activity which so engrosses the child that he reaches a deep level of concentration, and
then the time a child in putting away the materials, perhaps talking with friends, and is exhibiting an
aura of satisfaction with him and the world. We recognize this cycle as the normal ‘cycle of
activity' in a Montessori environment.
Experience has shown the disappearance of many childish traits through Normalization. Children
usually have a fickle mind and move from one toy to the next. Their minds seem to wander about
and they constantly seem preoccupied within themselves. They are unable to take on work or any
activity for longer than perhaps an hour. Dr. Montessori recognizes these traits along with others as
deviations or defensiveness. However once a child is offered a task that is practical and requires
concentration, if a child is trusted to do something that is realistic and requires responsibility, given
the freedom of choice, the freedom of doing work suited to his or her own needs, they then reveal
not only their capacity for intellectual accomplishment but a strange character of sweetness and
serenity. As they work, they grow in inner discipline and peace. "An interesting piece of work, freely

Christians Battle Against Poverty Essay examples
Let's look at some cold hard facts in the world surrounding us. Many of us live in comfortable lives–
plenty of food, a car for every member of the household, a roof over our heads, parents with steady
jobs, etc. Thus, America's comfortable bubble is formed. That is a fact, right? Well since we all
know about America, we should take a step outside of that cozy bubble around us and look at the
rest of the world. We will soon see the reality of the world surrounding us. So many of us know the
typical stereotypes such as starving children in Africa, or the overworked children of China, or even
the uneducated people of South America. However, how many of us have been face to face with the
reality of the everyday lifestyle that these people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was proof to Swanson that God was in on it. That same year, Everett and his family launched a
new overseas ministry after being provided satisfactory medical and financial resources. The new
ministry became a corporation that was later named Compassion. Compassion grew and by the mid
1970's had expanded to 17 other developing countries and 180,000 sponsor children. Now over 1
million children in 26 developing countries are sponsored through Compassion.
How It Works Reverend Everett Swanson did more than respond individually to the morbid reality
of worldwide poverty, he also created a way for us to respond easily by sponsoring a child. it would
not be realistic to say that every one of us must travel to Kenya to provide a meal for a starving
child, or to drive to Mexico to teach an illiterate teenager how to read and write. Nevertheless, we
can show compassion to those affected by poverty through sponsoring a child.
Compassion is an international Christian ministry that is dedicated to the development of children

Children Should Keep Their Innocence
"Children should have love, joy, and compassion. Most of all children should keep their innocence
in this cruel world," quoted anonymously. Karen Sanchez, a volunteer manager who has a passion
for children and a love to help them in any possible way she could. Her role at the children's shelter
is to assign individuals who have the same passion as her to volunteer and play with the children but
most of all to make them feel safe and cared for. Mrs. Sanchez took time out of her busy schedule to
meet with us on October 6, 2015 at The San Antonio Children's Shelter to share information about
the children shelter that gives us more information about the care, mission, and goals about the
children's shelter. Mrs. Sanchez worked at the children's museum before she worked at the children's
shelter until a close friend of hers asked her to go with her and work at the shelter. Several times
Mrs. Sanchez declined her friend until she thought she should give it a try. Sixteen years later Mrs.

support communication development for children and young people with behavioural, emotional
and social difficulties. There are many positive changes to the communication environment which
can be made to support the communication development of children with BSED, and some have
already been outlined in Assessment 2.2 and 2.3. Other positive changes may include using visual
support in the form of picture cards, makaton signs or even pointing to objects when speaking. This

All staff should be given extra training and be made more aware of the difficulties that children with
SLCN and BSED experience in order to offer extra support successfully. As already mentioned,
creating a calmer and quieter environment with fewer distractions can help most people concentrate
better, but will work exceptionally well for a child who is already easily distracted due to their
BSED. Minimal distractions allow the adult to spend more quality time supporting the child, making
it easier to communicate as the child is more focused and therefore more receptive to learning. In
any environment there needs to be clear boundaries and rules, and these need to be made easy to
understand and achieve for children of all ages and abilities. A consistent approach to dealing with
conflicts regarding rules helps to avoid any misunderstanding for the child. As already mentioned, a
child seeking attention will gain this in the way easiest to him or her, and if attention is usually only
given following negative behavior, then this how the child is likely to behave. Positive
encouragement and praise should be given as often and as emphasized as negative comments as this
will help the child acknowledge that good behaviour is just as, if not more so rewarded than
undesirable behaviour. Unfortunately in society there is a stigma attached to people with SCLN
and/or BSED, and a less than favourable opinion can be formed by a child when

UNIT TDA 3.1 – COMMUNICATION AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH
CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS 1.1. Effective communication is important in
developing positive relationships with children and young adults because it helps the child to be able
to communicate effectively with other people as they grow. Children react better to clear, concise
communication and this in turn will help to build better relationships between child and adult and
enable trust to grow, which is one of the key elements in building a relationship. It is also important
to listen to the child and let them say what they want to say. Do not try to pre–empt or interrupt
them. Try to keep your language and explanation simple and to the point. Make them feel that what

The vital thing is to be aware of their abilities and, as I have said above, be clear when
communicating, keep in mind what the child is capable of. Speak at their level and with eye contact.
Always encourage them to respond and answer questions, this will help with confidence. When they
get something right, praise them and make them feel good, this will also give them confidence. Also
if they get something wrong, or misbehave, explain what they have done wrong in a positive way
and explain what they could do to make it right. Repeat things if necessary and ensure that the child
has understood. Ask questions in a way that encourages children and young adults to answer in full
sentences which shows that they have understood what is being asked. 2.2 Age of child or young
person: You need to be adaptable in the way you communicate when working with children and
young adults. A young child will need clear and sometimes lengthy instructions on how to do
something. Whereas older children and young adults tend to grasp things quicker and you can
explain things in a more mature fashion. Some younger children like to have physical contact as
well, especially if they feel lonely or scared i.e. when they are upset and trying to explain to you
what is wrong, an arm around them or holding their hand will give them reassurance. Children of all
ages need to feel secure and feel valued in any environment and how you communicate with them

Poverty Is A Very Big Issue Affecting Other Societies
Poverty is a very big issue affecting various societies in the world. A country can be developed or
underdeveloped and still have peoples suffering from poverty According to oxford dictionaries,
poverty is the "the state of being extremely poor" ("Poverty", n.d). Poverty can be seen as a negative
thing to the society because, it means not having the necessities of life, not being able to get the
appropriate education, not having a place to call home and so many other effects. It can be
experienced by so many demographics including children. Child poverty is vital because, it deals
with children who are so delicate and need a lot of care and love. According to UNICEF (2004),
"Children living in poverty experience deprivation of the material, spiritual and emotional resources
needed to survive, develop and thrive, leaving them unable to enjoy their rights, achieve their full
potential or participate as full and equal members of society" ("State of the world's children:
Childhood under threat," 2004). This paper would be focusing on child poverty in Afghanistan,
causes, effects and ways in which organizations can be of help to them. Afghanistan is a country in
South Asia which is going through so many crises right now, in which child poverty is one of them.
"Afghanistan is a country considered to be among the most dangerous place for children to be born"

How Children With Asd Communicate With Adults Or People
When reflecting, it is important to consider how children with ASD communicate with adults or
people in authority, as well as their peers. It is known there is a power relationship between teachers
and students, which has a direct effect on the children's development (Hayes & Matusov, 2005). In
fact, the way in which teachers communicate with children has been found to have direct
consequences on children's language development (Dangel & Durden, 2010) and social interactions
(Stanton–Chapman, 2015; Irvin, Boyd & Odom, 2014) both of which are important for those with
ASD due to their specific deficits in these areas. It is possible that due to deficits in ToM and
executive functioning, which are commonly recorded in ASD (Llaneza, et al., ... Show more content

I did also consider if this was a form of non–verbal communication, particular as these are expressed
differently from females with ASD (Kirkovski, Enticott & Fitzgerald, 2013).
To observe this, I began keeping a diary which documented what factors were frequently present
during this behaviour. However, I originally noticed very few situational triggers. Most research into
RRBs and ASD focuses on the individual child's differences which are associated with the
behaviour, such as cognitive processing (Chen, Rodger & McConaline, 2008) and language skills
(Ray–Subramaria & Weismer, 2012), offering few explanations. As ABA has a focus on
reinforcement, which has been found effective for RRBs (Napolitano, Smith, Zarcone, Goodwin &
McAdam, 2010) this the first technique I tried. Whilst this had temporary success, it did not prevent
Child C from returning to the behaviour once the reinforcement stopped. Furthermore, from my
reflective diary entries it became clear that this method was not reducing RRBs during the sessions.
This suggests reinforcement did not have longitudinal maintenance. Consequently, I decided to
approach the RRB's as another method of communication. As RRB's give a functional and
therapeutic effect (Grandin, 2011), it is possible that the behaviour was a method of communicating
anxiety. In order to better

deliver the EYFS when the time the child spends there is limited. 7. With regard to child protection
there is examples of adult's behaviour which may indicate child abuse and neglect. 8. Again with
regard to child protection the EYFS now has strict guidelines about the use of mobile phones and
cameras. 9. The decision of who is a suitable person to manage a setting has been simplified and
returned to the hands of the setting owner with guidelines. 10. Supervision of staff is compulsory
and has been detailed to ensure encouragement of continual professional development. 11.
Childminders must complete training in the EYFS. 12. There may be some exceptions to the

Analyse how quality standards influence positive outcomes for individuals.
Parents and carers * They receive a high quality standard of childcare and education. * They are
secure in the knowledge that their child is in a safe, secure environment. * They are kept well

Privilege : Privilege And Privilege
Privilege Privilege applies to certain people who benefit more than other people in the same social,
political or economic spaces (Henderson, L., week 1, 2014). Somebody might be privileged only
because that person is wealthier or more powerful compared to the others. Privilege is an advantage
enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most. "Privilege is expressed as an advantage
based on status or rank that is used to maintain status quo" (Collins, J., et al., 2011). Privilege can
applies to different concept, such as male privilege, white privilege and heterosexual privilege, all of
which have implications for education. Although it is still taboo, with evolution, we have come far
and we are now starting to accept equality between men and women, white and black and starting to
acknowledge heterosexual. Growing up, I never thought of education as a privilege. Now I know
how lucky and how blessed I am I had the benefit of a good education at a private school and
college. Furthermore I now have the opportunity to study in Melbourne, something hard to do if you
do not have the resources. Although education is free in most countries, a lot of children stop
studying when they can to find a job to help the family. Invisibility "Invisibility is the state of an
object that cannot be seen" (Henderson, L., week 1, 2014). Invisibility usually involves objects. But
because we cannot see it does not mean it is not there. A bachelor is not invisible, it can be seen in

Question 1
Dr. Montessori gave us a Decalogue. Comment on each one of them. What can happen if we did not
did not follow them. You could refer to your personal experiences.
The Montessori Decalogue are explained as below.
1. Never touch the child unless invited by him (in some way or another).
Unless there is a very strong reason to (like avoiding an accident, for example), it is important that
one should never touch a child unless a child requests it. Picking up a child without the child's
consent, even if in a playful manner, or grabbing her hand, pushing her, etc., should always be
avoided. If children are engaged, looking at a book, working, playing, resting, the same principle
applies. Children invite contact in many ways, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, "timeout" and "go to your room and stay there" approaches are also expressions of
abandonment.
6. Respect the child who makes a mistake and can then or later correct it herself, but stop firmly and
immediately any misuse of the environment and any action which endangers the child, its own
development or that of others.
Avoid rushing to correct mistakes a child has committed. Children are learning to cope and function.
They will persist and practice to their heart's content whatever skill they need to acquire, until they
master it. If a child starts throwing things around and disrespecting the environment, by all means,
stop her. Yet, explain why you had to stop her. Reason and listen to what the child may have to say.
Maria Montessori said that "a child's first tantrums are the first ills of her soul." There is always a
reason for everything. Try to bring the reason to light. Punishing, isolating the child, etc., will only
feed her pain, and burry deep those reasons–she will learn to hide rather than communicate.
7. Respect the child who takes a rest or watches others working or ponders over what she herself has
done or will do. Neither call her nor force her to other forms of activity.
A child that is idle is often not idle at all... Children need to be given space to find what it is they are
interested in and want to do. Once they do, they pursue their interests

Yannely Suero : A Short Story
Can you imagine what kind of life you would have had if the person who is your father today
rejected you and ran away every time he saw your face just because he did not want you to be born
in the first place? Meet Yannely Suero, the girl who was rejected before she was even born. Growing
up without a father was very common for children in Villa Flores which is a community in the
Dominican Republic. But Yannely's situation was not just her not having a father to provide her with
the basic needs that she needed, but it was beyond that. She had a father who did not want her and
even told her mother to get an abortion the second he found out she was pregnant. Yannely's father
was not around her mother before or even after she was born. When Yannely got a little bit older she
wanted to know her father, but she, later on, regrated even finding out who her father was because of
the way he treated her. It was too obvious that the father did not want her at all by ignoring her
knocking on the door, or the way he turned around and ran because he could not even look at her
face. This broke Yannely's heart but that was not the end of her journey. Through Compassion
International Yannely found a purpose and she was able to heal and feel loved again. Through a
sponsor who was like a grandmother to her, Yannely's life changed for good and she then focused on
pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. She held no hate against her father because she decided
that her father's rejection would

Assess the View That the Modern Family Has Become More...
Child–centeredness is the act of putting a child first and goes against the previous authoritarian way.
It is about being focused on the protection and safety of a child, and emphasizing that the early years
of a Childs life should be a care–free time. Although it is becoming apparent that our society is now
a child–centered society, this hasn't always been the case as sociologists and historians argue that
childhood as we understand it today is a relatively recent 'invention'. Social historian Aries claimed
that, in the past, children were ''little adults'' who had the same rights, duties and skills as adults. As
evidence of his views he uses paintings from the period, which show children and adults dressed ...

Inequalities between children and adults could be the laws protecting children from work, as
Firestone and Holt see it not as protection but as a form of inequality as it is a way of making them
more powerless and dependent to adult control. Another form of adult control taken to the extreme
is the use of physical or mental force. These actions are seen as the 'dark side' of family where
children are victims of oppression. Other inequalities are the parental control over children's space,
the control over children's time, the control over children's bodies and the control over children's
access to resources. These inequalities contradict 'March of progress' view and sees society not
becoming child centered, but instead child oppressing.
Finally, Postman argues that childhood is disappearing at dazzling speed pointing towards the fact of
giving children the same rights as adults, the growing similarity of adult's clothing to children's and
even the growing number of children committing adult crimes such as murder. On the other hand,
based on a lifetime of research into children's games, rhymes and songs, Opie and Opie argue that
there is strong evidence of the continued existence of a separate children's culture over many years.
To sum up, there is no doubt that there has been a gradual change in our society of children and that

Persuasive Essay On Child Censorship
Child Sponsorship: The Gift of a Lifetime
How often have you wanted to make a difference in the world but were unsure of the best way to do
it? Child sponsorship gives you an opportunity to make a dramatic difference in a child's life and in
the community at large. Investing in the well–being of a child is a gift that will have generational
effects. With your help, a child that is in need can have opportunities beyond their grandest dreams.
You will also be touched by how your sponsorship has changed the course of a child's future and
their community.

Most impoverished children have never had proper care from a health practitioner. As a result, they
are suffering from illnesses and conditions that can easily be prevented and treated. Sponsorship
provides the funding for adequate care, making these children healthy again.
Malnourishment is all too common for impoverished children. Many children are not receiving the
proper nutritional support they need to grow strong and healthy. The consequences of malnutrition
can be visibly seen on their bodies. Sponsorship allows children to have access to nutrition and
gives their family the tools they need to continue maintaining a nutrition rich environment for the
child to thrive.
Limited access to sanitary water is another problem that sponsorship can help. Poor sewage and
pipes can lead to filthy water that is saturated with bacteria and other harmful microbes. A little
funding goes a long way in helping to improve access to clean water to bathe in and consume.
In addition to limited access to supportive environments that facilitate their health, impoverished
children also have restricted access to education. When you sponsor a child, you give them a chance
to learn essential knowledge and skills that will help them rise above their

After-School Programs Raise Academic Success

  • 1. Importance of After-School Programs Essay Importance of After–School Programs "There are approximately forty nine million children and youth, ages 6–17 living in the U.S." ("Making the Case" 1). Children need care while they are in the initial stages of growth and development. Whether this care is provided by a mother, father, sibling, or other guardian, a child needs to be loved. When children turn a certain age, the care of the family is added to by caregivers in another institution. While attending school, children are shown care for the duration of the day by teachers, mentors, and other aids. This is a productive time for the children's development because they are being nurtured in a well rounded, safe environment. This environment provides initial academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a solution to assisting the needs of unsupervised children in the hours after school. With effort, there is a place that can provide a fulfilling and nurturing environment for the children that could otherwise be left in danger. After– school programs are increasing in number, and are catering to different children's interests and needs. After– school programs, such as The Bridge Project are important for children ages 6–17 because they are cost effective, reduce juvenile crime rates, and raise academic success. These results are granted through attendance, providing enriching experiences, and extending academics into the after– school hours. After– school programs have been around for long time. However, their initial purpose was different than what is demanded in today's society. The after school program was originally developed in urban communities in response to the decline in child labor and the rise in mandatory schooling. This combination altered the day of an urban child. The child would go to school, and come home with nothing to do. They could not work anymore because of child labor laws. With this being a new law, parents did not know what to do with their children because they had to work into the late hours of the evening. Also, urban housing had unkempt, undesirable conditions for living. This caused many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Effect Of Television Exposure On The Behavior Of... Part 1: Outline The Similarities And Differences Between The Studies – Bandura et al. (1963) & Hayne et al. (2003) Introduction The impact of television exposure is relatively unknown in the recent decades. Therefore, large number of studies has been considered in order to find out the impact of television exposure on the behaviour of infants or children. According to the classic studies conducted by Bandura et. al (1963), the 3 to 5 years children continuously observe the aggressive behaviour of adult. Then they carry out the same aggressive behaviour in front of children, doll or other toys. Consequently, children imitate the aggressive behaviour of the actor, and mimic it in the presence of other children. Comparatively, Hayne et. al (2003) states that 4 to15 month old imitate limited actions demonstrated by videotaped models. Hence, the focus of this task is on the difference and similarities between the studies of Bandura et al. (1963) & Hayne et al. (2003). Discussion Bandura et. al (1963) & Hayne et. al (2003) The article "Imitation of film–mediated aggressive model"' is written by Albert Bandura, Dorothea Ross, and Sheila A. Ross in 1963. On the basis of the article carried out by Bandura et. al (1963, p. 4), it is examine that 3 to 5 years old children continuously observe the aggressive behaviour of adult. Then they conduct the same aggressive behaviour in front of doll or other toys. This shows that aggressive behaviour of parents put adverse and negative impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethical Issues In Social Work Part A Jill is a social work student working under her field instructor, Jack, who is a registered social worker employed within Child and Youth Services (CYS) in St. John's, NL. This means receiving information from an outside source who is reporting that they believe child abuse may be occurring, normally in a family home. • 7. Bullying And Its Effect On Children causing this behavior. Primary school is an especially tough time for our young ones. If educators are really looking to put an end to bullying, they have to attack it from the root of the problem (Linder–Altman). What a child is wearing will not get them bullied, it depends on the bully. Making uniforms mandatory in efforts to decrease bullying, only teaches our children that the only way to be accepted is by conforming which is not what we should be pushing for. It's important to attack the problem by the root. A lot of times the bully may be going through something in their life outside of school which is causing them to lash out at others. If all the school systems do to fix bullying is make their students wear uniforms, then what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In School Uniforms and discourses on childhood, Bodine is looking at the change in apparent behavior of students once they are introduced to uniforms. Erik Erikson was a German–born psychoanalyst who studied the ego, personal and social identities. He believed that between the ages of six and twelve children acquire new skills and knowledge which develop a sense of industry (Darwin 15). In this stage children build on their sense of self–worth as well as their confidence. This is also a very social stage for the child. It is in this stage where self–esteem issues may arise due to feelings of inadequacy. With that being said, we run the risk of our children feeling like they have to conform in order to be accepted as if they won't be liked because they rather wear clothing of their own choice. In School Uniforms and Discourses on Childhood, Behling's drive to look into the effects uniforms have on children was the fact that everyone has rights, no matter their age. Her views on how the school systems are just simply masking the problem rather than trying to solve them are similar to mine. Bodine also uses her past conversations with students who feel they're stuck in the middle of this whole battle. One of the children admitted to feeling like a ping–pong ball being bounced between their parents and their school (Behling 423). Studies which survey clothing have shown that what someone wears is a critical factor of person perception ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is little evidence of what it was really like in the past so it is difficult for a lot of people to re– construct the life of a child, however from what I have researched, and in my own opinion I am going to summarise the historical changes in childhood experience and relate these changes to childhood development and rights. In the 19th century I think children missed out on most of their childhood as most of them took on jobs such as chimney sweepers, street sellers and farms for example. These were mainly children from poor families who were seen as extra farm hands and were exploited by receiving low pay for long hours and working in poor conditions. Families did not look at how the children were treated and the possible impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They was wealthy families and was a lot easier from them as they had the money to attend a private school or was home–schooled. They were also encouraged to donate money and goods to the poor. Kerry Woolford Even though a legislation was drawn up and improved childhood education, healthcare and welfare, children were and even now in modern society around the world are being taken advantage of for monetary gain. Modern society now especially since 1997 have tried putting children first such as committing to meeting children's needs. There are still problems such as school truancy, adolescents not in education or training and also child protection as there have been tragic deaths including baby P and Victoria climbie, which her death was largely responsible for the formation of every child matters inactive plus a lot of other changes in different systems, 2. The message we are sending our children is that we do not have control over how we raise them, the government can over rule the decisions we make concerning them. I am by no means advocating abusive behaviour in parenting yet, by whose perception do we evaluate whether or not our actions are abusive? Any kind of discipline can feel abusive to a child who is not mature enough to make proper judgments on their own. Each culture will have different ways of dealing with discipline and in a multicultural country we should respect the methods as long as they are not abusive. Parenting styles have been split into three categories, let us take a closer look at each. If you remember the phrase "because I said so", you were probably raised by an authoritarian style. Very strict rules which were not up for discussion or explanation probably ruled your childhood. Children in this type of environment were being raised to follow the rules and not to question authority. Corporal punishment was more than likely a part of this upbringing. At the other end of the spectrum, if you felt like your parents were your friends they probably parented in a more permissive style. They were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Amy Chua Markisha Carter/ Unit Two "B" Essay Amy Chua is obviously very opinionated. There is a lot of controversy surrounding her memoir, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, in which she was very harsh towards her daughters and made it clear that her parenting methods were better than those of a Western parent. There is no manual on parenting, but how do we know when we as parents cross the line between being concerned for our child's future and being overbearing? Being a parent myself, I know firsthand that it gets frustrating and sometimes, that inner control can be lost. Amy demonstrated this challenge plenty of times. One can't help but wonder how Amy and Jed had such a successful marriage. I'm pretty sure Jed disagreed with Amy more than she let on in the book. According to her, "Besides, I was at a disadvantage because I had an American husband who believed that childhood should be fun" (46). Amy knew this, yet she still didn't let the girls have fun. Maybe Jed should have pushed her to be more outgoing and spontaneous. According to Dr. Jim Taylor, there are three qualities a parent must possess to raise healthy children: calmness, persistence, and toughness (Taylor, Three Words). Chua was not so good in the calmness department. Tough love is often given to children having behavioral problems as they grow older but this did not apply to Sophia and Lulu. Why was all of that "tough love" being given to them? In a way, Amy could have been living her dreams through the girls. But if she wanted to be a professional musician, she should have done so. Instead, she pushed the girls to do something without ever asking them if it was what they wanted to do. Lulu let her have it when she said to her mother "Mommy, I get it. I've watched you and listened to your lectures a thousand times. But I don't want you controlling my life" (221). She mentioned a couple of times in the book that Chinese kids owed their ... Essay about Parents Hitting Their Children Parents Hitting Their Children For this coursework, I will be looking at whether parents should be allowed to hit their children or children that are being looked after by them. Like most questions there are usually two sides to the argument. The 1st reason why parents should be allowed to hit their kids is to enforce a form of discipline. The other reason why hitting children is bad is because by hitting a child, they may be emotionally scared for life. Many people have different views on this topic; some are "for" it, some are "against" it. The United Nations (UN) as a violation of basic human rights have condemned the national U.K. law. Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make the child form hatred towards the parent. Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can lose their temper in the heat of the moment and can't physically stop themselves from doing it. Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem.

Dweck's an essay, "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids", she describes fixed and growth mind–sets. She describes how they affect school, and how they affect social relationships as well. The two central ideas of "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids" are that fixed mind–sets can make a person shy away from a challenge and that growth mind–sets can be put into place by parents. One of the two central ideas of "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids" is that fixed mind–sets can make an individual less eager to face challenges that would help them grow and improve on their skills. At the University of Hong Kong, Carol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second rule is to encourage a growth mind–set by, "telling stories about achievements that result from hard work...descriptions [like that] of great mathematicians who fell in love with math and developed amazing skills engenders a growth mind–set," (Dweck, 171–175). Encouraging a growth mind–set allows for a child to have more success in their school life as well as in their social life as a result of motivation and the willingness to be challenged and learn. The two main ideas of "The Secret to Raising Smart Kids" are that fixed minded people are less likely to accept a challenge than growth minded people and that parents can do their part to help their child have a successful life by implanting a growth mind–set in their child's brain. If more parents raised their children as growth minded individuals, this world would improve significantly. ESSAY 2 Both Carol S. Dweck and Annie Murphy Paul use the term intelligence in their essays, but they have slightly different meanings. While Carol S. Dweck uses the term intelligence as a measure of how smart someone is that can be expanded through effort, while Annie Murphy Paul uses intelligence in the same manner (a measure of how smart someone is), but in how it can be suppressed. Carol S. Dweck uses intelligence as a form of measurement that measures how heavy of a workload someone can receive and understand, and how it can be expanded through effort. In an essay that was ... As already mentioned, creating a calmer and quieter environment with fewer distractions can help most people concentrate better, but will work exceptionally well for a child who is already easily distracted due to their BSED. Minimal distractions allow the adult to spend more quality time supporting the child, making it easier to communicate as the child is more focused and therefore more receptive to learning. In any environment there needs to be clear boundaries and rules, and these need to be made easy to understand and achieve for children of all ages and abilities. A consistent approach to dealing with conflicts regarding rules helps to avoid any misunderstanding for the child. As already mentioned, a child seeking attention will gain this in the way easiest to him or her, and if attention is usually only given following negative behavior, then this how the child is likely to behave. Children react better to clear, concise communication and this in turn will help to build better relationships between child and adult and enable trust to grow, which is one of the key elements in building a relationship. It is also important to listen to the child and let them say what they want to say. Do not try to pre–empt or interrupt them. Try to keep your language and explanation simple and to the point. Make them feel that what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The vital thing is to be aware of their abilities and, as I have said above, be clear when communicating, keep in mind what the child is capable of. Speak at their level and with eye contact. Always encourage them to respond and answer questions, this will help with confidence. When they get something right, praise them and make them feel good, this will also give them confidence. Also if they get something wrong, or misbehave, explain what they have done wrong in a positive way and explain what they could do to make it right. Repeat things if necessary and ensure that the child has understood. Ask questions in a way that encourages children and young adults to answer in full sentences which shows that they have understood what is being asked. 2.2 Age of child or young person: You need to be adaptable in the way you communicate when working with children and young adults. A young child will need clear and sometimes lengthy instructions on how to do something. Whereas older children and young adults tend to grasp things quicker and you can explain things in a more mature fashion. Some younger children like to have physical contact as well, especially if they feel lonely or scared i.e. when they are upset and trying to explain to you what is wrong, an arm around them or holding their hand will give them reassurance. Children of all ages need to feel secure and feel valued in any environment and how you communicate with them should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Save the Children organization is in the business of keeping up a good image of helping children all over the world. Now this organization is helping children in the United States. Save the Children launched a multi–media public service announcement campaign, featuring Academy Award–winning actress Sally Field and the song "Imagine" by the late John Lennon, to call attention to the agency's efforts to aid thousands of Gulf Coast children forced from their homes by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (Save). A country can be developed or underdeveloped and still have peoples suffering from poverty According to oxford dictionaries, poverty is the "the state of being extremely poor" ("Poverty", n.d). Poverty can be seen as a negative thing to the society because, it means not having the necessities of life, not being able to get the appropriate education, not having a place to call home and so many other effects. It can be experienced by so many demographics including children. Child poverty is vital because, it deals with children who are so delicate and need a lot of care and love. According to UNICEF (2004), "Children living in poverty experience deprivation of the material, spiritual and emotional resources needed to survive, develop and thrive, leaving them unable to enjoy their rights, achieve their full potential or participate as full and equal members of society" ("State of the world's children: Childhood under threat," 2004). How Children With Asd Communicate With Adults Or People When reflecting, it is important to consider how children with ASD communicate with adults or people in authority, as well as their peers. It is known there is a power relationship between teachers and students, which has a direct effect on the children's development (Hayes & Matusov, 2005). In fact, the way in which teachers communicate with children has been found to have direct consequences on children's language development (Dangel & Durden, 2010) and social interactions (Stanton–Chapman, 2015; Irvin, Boyd & Odom, 2014) both of which are important for those with ASD due to their specific deficits in these areas. It is possible that due to deficits in ToM and executive functioning, which are commonly recorded in ASD (Llaneza, et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I did also consider if this was a form of non–verbal communication, particular as these are expressed differently from females with ASD (Kirkovski, Enticott & Fitzgerald, 2013). To observe this, I began keeping a diary which documented what factors were frequently present during this behaviour. However, I originally noticed very few situational triggers. Most research into RRBs and ASD focuses on the individual child's differences which are associated with the behaviour, such as cognitive processing (Chen, Rodger & McConaline, 2008) and language skills (Ray–Subramaria & Weismer, 2012), offering few explanations. As ABA has a focus on reinforcement, which has been found effective for RRBs (Napolitano, Smith, Zarcone, Goodwin & McAdam, 2010) this the first technique I tried. Whilst this had temporary success, it did not prevent Child C from returning to the behaviour once the reinforcement stopped. Furthermore, from my reflective diary entries it became clear that this method was not reducing RRBs during the sessions. This suggests reinforcement did not have longitudinal maintenance. Consequently, I decided to approach the RRB's as another method of communication. As RRB's give a functional and therapeutic effect (Grandin, 2011), it is possible that the behaviour was a method of communicating anxiety. In order to better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Privilege : Privilege And Privilege Privilege Privilege applies to certain people who benefit more than other people in the same social, political or economic spaces (Henderson, L., week 1, 2014). Somebody might be privileged only because that person is wealthier or more powerful compared to the others. Privilege is an advantage enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most. "Privilege is expressed as an advantage based on status or rank that is used to maintain status quo" (Collins, J., et al., 2011). Privilege can applies to different concept, such as male privilege, white privilege and heterosexual privilege, all of which have implications for education. Although it is still taboo, with evolution, we have come far and we are now starting to accept equality between men and women, white and black and starting to acknowledge heterosexual. He is given the reader an example on this when he tells about a ballet boy. This boy is very talented, but in school, not so much. Neill explains in the texts that he think learning should come after playing, he make the reader understand that you don't haft to be smart to prove a point or make your dreams come true in this world. • 75. Module 6 Question 1 Dr. Montessori gave us a Decalogue. Comment on each one of them. What can happen if we did not did not follow them. You could refer to your personal experiences. The Montessori Decalogue are explained as below. 1. Never touch the child unless invited by him (in some way or another). Unless there is a very strong reason to (like avoiding an accident, for example), it is important that one should never touch a child unless a child requests it. Picking up a child without the child's consent, even if in a playful manner, or grabbing her hand, pushing her, etc., should always be avoided. If children are engaged, looking at a book, working, playing, resting, the same principle applies. Children invite contact in many ways, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, "timeout" and "go to your room and stay there" approaches are also expressions of abandonment. 6. Respect the child who makes a mistake and can then or later correct it herself, but stop firmly and immediately any misuse of the environment and any action which endangers the child, its own development or that of others. Avoid rushing to correct mistakes a child has committed. Children are learning to cope and function. They will persist and practice to their heart's content whatever skill they need to acquire, until they master it. If a child starts throwing things around and disrespecting the environment, by all means, stop her. Yet, explain why you had to stop her. Reason and listen to what the child may have to say. Maria Montessori said that "a child's first tantrums are the first ills of her soul." There is always a reason for everything. Try to bring the reason to light. Punishing, isolating the child, etc., will only feed her pain, and burry deep those reasons–she will learn to hide rather than communicate. 7. Respect the child who takes a rest or watches others working or ponders over what she herself has done or will do. Neither call her nor force her to other forms of activity. A child that is idle is often not idle at all... Children need to be given space to find what it is they are interested in and want to do. Once they do, they pursue their interests ... Yannely Suero : A Short Story Can you imagine what kind of life you would have had if the person who is your father today rejected you and ran away every time he saw your face just because he did not want you to be born in the first place? Meet Yannely Suero, the girl who was rejected before she was even born. Growing up without a father was very common for children in Villa Flores which is a community in the Dominican Republic. But Yannely's situation was not just her not having a father to provide her with the basic needs that she needed, but it was beyond that. She had a father who did not want her and even told her mother to get an abortion the second he found out she was pregnant. Yannely's father was not around her mother before or even after she was born. When Yannely got a little bit older she wanted to know her father, but she, later on, regrated even finding out who her father was because of the way he treated her. It was too obvious that the father did not want her at all by ignoring her knocking on the door, or the way he turned around and ran because he could not even look at her face. This broke Yannely's heart but that was not the end of her journey. Through Compassion International Yannely found a purpose and she was able to heal and feel loved again. • 79. Assess the View That the Modern Family Has Become More... Child–centeredness is the act of putting a child first and goes against the previous authoritarian way. It is about being focused on the protection and safety of a child, and emphasizing that the early years of a Childs life should be a care–free time. Although it is becoming apparent that our society is now a child–centered society, this hasn't always been the case as sociologists and historians argue that childhood as we understand it today is a relatively recent 'invention'. Social historian Aries claimed that, in the past, children were ''little adults'' who had the same rights, duties and skills as adults. As evidence of his views he uses paintings from the period, which show children and adults dressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inequalities between children and adults could be the laws protecting children from work, as Firestone and Holt see it not as protection but as a form of inequality as it is a way of making them more powerless and dependent to adult control. Another form of adult control taken to the extreme is the use of physical or mental force. These actions are seen as the 'dark side' of family where children are victims of oppression. Other inequalities are the parental control over children's space, the control over children's time, the control over children's bodies and the control over children's access to resources. These inequalities contradict 'March of progress' view and sees society not becoming child centered, but instead child oppressing. Finally, Postman argues that childhood is disappearing at dazzling speed pointing towards the fact of giving children the same rights as adults, the growing similarity of adult's clothing to children's and even the growing number of children committing adult crimes such as murder. On the other hand, based on a lifetime of research into children's games, rhymes and songs, Opie and Opie argue that there is strong evidence of the continued existence of a separate children's culture over many years.
