African Americans, Hispanics, and lower class people were disproportionately affected by the Vietnam War through serving and suffering. In 1967, large protests against the war were held in New York City and San Francisco, attracting over 200,000 people combined. Tens of thousands of Americans fled the country to Canada to avoid the draft while others fled within the United States. Music was an important form of protest against the war during this period.
