Peirce, but the recent resurgence of pragmatism (Bernstein, 1992) can also be regarded as a
pragmatist renovation of analytic philosophy. On the other hand, Peirce s thought offers
suggestions for tackling some of the most stubborn problems in contemporary philosophy, and in
particular he may help us to shoulder once again the philosophical responsibility which has been

In order to show this, my paper is divided in four sections: 1) A brief description of the decline of
analytic philosophy; 2) the return of the history of philosophy as a key to its recovery; 3) Charles

When Wolfgang Spohn became the managing editor of the new Erkenntnis he referred to its first
eight volumes as a historically singular document, signaling a new era in philosophy with great

The Blithedale Romance, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a twisted utopia. This
perfect world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only
with a more contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and
published in the 19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of
writing. Hawthorne combines fantasy, philosophy, mystery, gothic, and even [what would be called
today] science fiction. This novel illustrates the early break from even fresh ideas. The writing
style allows for the genderizing degenderizing affect as well as nature of the self.
The males within the novel always seemed to be placing their skills and knowledge above the
women s own. Characters such as Coverdale and Hollingsworth placed their own thoughts above
those of the female characters almost anytime that they could. The women, oddly, seemed to
show diverse roles. Subtly, this is a representation of women as more complex than men in
general. One of the characters, Zenobia, is probably the most least genderized character of the
novel, that is, until the end. Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in
comparison to traditional roles that is) yet very feminine at the same time. She has a mystical
illusion about her yet seems very sensible in the ways of life. However, by the end of the novel,
Hawthorne writes her character to be very manipulative and weak, for she dies of grief. On the

The tip of the tongue (or TOT) phenomenon is the inability to retrieve a specific word, while
typically knowing quite a lot of information about it. In recent years, experimental psychologists
interested in human memory have studied the TOT phenomenon in the hope of better
understanding why this mental process is interrupted as well as any useful techniques for

In the complex society of this day and age, homelessness is an ever growing epidemic; People can
become homeless for many reasons: losing a job, addiction to drugs and mental illness. People
drive or walk past a homeless person every day without thinking ever about the predicament of that
individual or they may even unintentionally turn their heads the other way in repulsion.
Homelessness can be defined as an individual or a family whose has a main nighttime dwelling
that is a public or private place not designed for or normally used as a regular sleeping
accommodation for human beings, including a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station,
