OFFSHORE WIND RESOURCE ASSESSMENT OFF THE SOUTH AFRICAN COASTLINEIAEME Publication
The world is undergoing a paradigm shift as more people are becoming aware of energy consumption patterns, reinforcing the need for developing cleaner and more sustainable ways to generate electrical energy. Globally, the development of onshore wind farms is sometimes impeded by factors such as aesthetic impact, acceptance by the public, the threats to surrounding biodiversity, noise from the power plant and possible land use conflicts. Due to these concerns, offshore wind plants have been developed. Offshore wind energy is generally greater in comparison to that of onshore wind energy because the wind speeds offshore are generally higher and more constant with fewer obstructions to the wind resource. The offshore wind potential for South African coastal regions was investigated and analysed in this study. Various factors such as shipping routes, oil and gas exploration fields and possible transmission connection points were taken into consideration before selecting four data collection sites. The predominant wind direction, mean wind speed, wind shear and spatial geographic information was analysed for each site. The sites’ wind direction did not have any similarities, with each site having its own prevailing wind directions. Within the 50 m hub height, Site 2 showed the best potential based on the power density. Site 1 and Site 3 showed similar power densities to each other with Site 4 showing the lowest power density. The distance to shore ranged from 200 km to 500 km with a steep continental shelf drop to a depth of approximately 3 000 m. The study conducted shows that there is offshore wind potential off the coast of South Africa. Energy generated by this method could assist South Africa to increase access to energy, reduce expensive transmission line losses to coastal provinces, and assist the country to transition towards a more sustainable future energy mix in line with developed nations.
Simulation of a Gas Turbine Combustor Test Rig using a Reactor Network Approa...Oleg Bosyi
Use of gas turbines as one of the most effective power generation technologies has ecological concerns caused by polluting combustion products. To reduce emissions different fuel compositions are being constantly investigated and gas turbines are developed by means of experiments or less expensive numerical simulations. Combustion processes can be modeled in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with a good accuracy but it is time consuming and rather complicated in case of detailed chemistry. To overcome this issue a processing of CFD solution can be applied for a further building of equivalent chemical reactor networks (CRN) that allow to reduce calculation times and take minor species into account.
The aim of this work is to choose a proper technique of CRN set-up and apply it for engineering tasks with the software tool 'LOGEsoft ReactorNetwork'.
The first part of the thesis is devoted to investigation of existing CRN approaches, CFD processing instruments and testing and improvement of the 'LOGEsoft ReactorNetwork'. That software is successfully examined on the Sandia Flame D and a parameter study of the reactor network is carried out.
The second part involves mechanism validation for methane/hydrogen mixtures and development of an equivalent reactor network for the Siemens atmospheric combustion test rig that serves as an experimental facility for enhancement of the 3rd generation dry low emission burner. The obtained CRN is validated against experimental data of NOx measurements and it showed reasonable results with deviations. A parameter study and mechanism sensitivity of the model is also conducted and some ways for the future improvement are suggested.

Wind Drivetrain: Reliability and Serviceability of DrivetrainsTorben Haagh
An integral component of a wind turbine, the drivetrain is continually evolving as new concepts and designs are explored. As larger turbines are developed, and more wind farms are installed in deeper water, the service and maintenance of each component must also be considered.

2015 Foundations for larger and deeper Offshore Wind MEC Intelligence
For offshore wind farms installations, foundation selection plays an important role in the overall concept design as there are large financial implications attached to the choices made. Foundation costs are primarily driven by material & installation costs and have been considered in this report.
New foundation designs have lower costs as turbines become larger and installed in deeper sea. For instance, 6 MW, new foundations are ~4-20% lower in material cost when compared to monopiles & jackets while for turbine sizes 8 MW and larger, new designs reduce the cost by ~21-24%. Cost reduction potential of 5-15% is observed for foundations at selected 5 farms in Europe. However, developers need to manage risk and other associated premium costs with appropriate contracting.
This reports presents detailed and fact based evaluation of foundations technologies for larger & deeper offshore wind farms. It also offers an evaluation of innovations that could assist in driving down the cost of the installation of foundation for offshore wind farm operations.

Design and Development of a 10 Million Liters Capacity Petroleum Product Stor...theijes
In Nigeria, the demand for petroleum products are on the increase and the need for reliable and safe storage facilities is on increasing demand. This has called for indigenous design and development of these facilities to augment the existing ones, and hence, to conserve foreign exchange and enhance job creation. In this work attempt has been made to designastorage tankcapable of holding a 10 million liter of DPK, PMS and AGO.Appropriate design codes and standard are applied, an adequate design method is chosen, and material selection was donein consonance with the requirements of the recent editions of API 650 and IS 803. Design specificationsand Sketches of the storage tank are presented. Fabrication and erection procedures, examination, inspection and maintenance routine for the tank are given. It was found that, the nominal diameter is 42m without space constraint, height is 7.2 m, number of course is 4, and height of each course is 1.8m. Also, the thickness of each course of tank shell is in the order of 14mm, 12mm, 10mm and 8mm from bottom. The bottom and annular plate thickness are 10mm and 12mm respectively. Carbon steel A36 material was selected for the design. The overall weight of the tank is 541,747.10kg, which is found to be stable without anchorage.

Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.

Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.

Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder
