Benefits and challenges by Mary Beth McNeilly
Benefits
There are 5 challenges presented by Open Educational Resources. For OER to work, these
things need to be done.
1. Organizing resources in a system that makes them easy to find
2. Creating resources that can be used both partiallyand fully
3. Making the Creative Commons restrictions symbols universal and visible at the start of a
piece of work, not the end
4. Creating a central repository of sources, rather than the piecemeal system now.
5. Establishing a CTC body to curate and cultivate Open Educational Resources, with a
master plan in mind.
Challenges
There are 5 challenges presentedby Open Educational
Resources.For OER to work, these things need to be
done.
 Organizing resources in a system that makes them
easy to find
 Creating resources that can be used both partially
and fully
 Making the CreativeCommons restrictions symbols
universal and visible at the start of a piece of work, not
the end
 Creating a central repository of sources,rather than
the piecemeal system now.
 Establishing a CTC body to curate and cultivateOpen
Educational Resources, with a master plan in mind.
