Earthquake hazardsEarthquake Hazards Overview
Earthquake hazards include any physical phenomenon associated with an earthquake that may produce adverse effects on human activities. While they are often used as synonyms, it is useful to distinguish between "hazards" and "risk". Hazards are the natural phenomena that might impact a region, regardless of whether there is anyone around to experience them or not. Risk refers to what we stand to lose when the hazard occurs; it is what we have built that's threatened. Risk can usually be measured in dollars or fatalities. Hazard is generally measured in more physical units: energy, shaking strength, depth of water inundation, etc.
Primary earthquake hazards are:
ground shaking
landslides
liquefaction
surface rupture
Secondary earthquake hazards are those that are caused by the primary hazards, and may often be more catastrophic:
tsunami
seiche
flooding
fire
Secondary hazards are caused as a consequence of that ground shaking, such as ground settlement, lateral ground displacement, liquefaction, landslides and rock falls, tsunamis, floods, fires and falling debris.
Earthquake Hazards · Ground shaking: Ground shaking is both a hazard created by earthquakes and the trigger for other hazards such as liquefaction and landslides
Deformation on the ground that marks, the intersection of the fault with the earth’s surface.
Effects: fissuring, displacement of the ground due to movement of the fault
An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the shaking of the surface of the Earth resulting from a sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes can range in intensity, from those that are so weak that they cannot be felt, to those violent enough to propel objects and people into the air, damage critical infrastructure, and wreak destruction across entire cities. The seismic activity of an area is the frequency, type, and size of earthquakes experienced over a particular time. The seismicity at a particular location in the Earth is the average rate of seismic energy release per unit volume. The word tremor is also used for non-earthquake seismic rumbling.
At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and displacing or disrupting the ground. When the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides.
In its most general sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether natural or caused by humans—that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults but also by other events such as volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. An earthquake's point of initial rupture is called its hypocenter or focus. The epicenter is the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.
The shaking of the earth is a common phenomenon that has been experienced
MAGNITUDE 7.2 EARTHQUAKE STRIKES BOHOL ISLAND, THE PHILIPPINES at 8:12 am, 15 October 2013. The Philippine archipelago has experienced several destructive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the recent past. Yesterday's quake impacted 43,000 people and left at least 93 dead. Rescuers struggled to reach patients in a collapsed hospital. Many roads and bridges were damaged, making rescue operations difficult. Power outages left the entire province in the dark. High winds and rain prevented operations of military helicopters. Tents were set up for displaced victims; others moved in with relatives.

Earthquakes are the shaking, rolling or sudden shock of the earth’s surface. They are the Earth's natural means of releasing stress. Earthquakes can be felt over large areas.
Earthquakes cannot be predicted, although scientists are working on it.
Hereby presenting the worst earthquake in the history of the world. So many people died in that earthquake as there was this tsunami who nearly damaged as much as the earthquake did. I have collected as much as data I could collect. Hope it is helpful.

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site. A church in the 'countryside' of Iloilo Province that was built between 1787 and 1797 by Augustinian Friars as a 'Fortress Church' to protect the inhabitants from Moro/Muslim Pirates. They had been carrying out regular raiding parties along this coast of the Visayas from the 17th into the 19th centuries. They in fact destroyed the two previous iterations of the Church in Miagao dating back at least 150 to 200 years earlier.

The original Chapel was built in Ogtong as it was then called in late 1566 by Friar Martin Rada. It was subsequently destroyed by a Dutch Raiding Party in 1614. The Church was rebuilt several times until the Mid-1860s when the largest, most ornate Church was consecreated in Oton. It was a veritable treasure that survived the Revolution and World War II and was unfortunately destroyed by the Lady CayCay Earthquake in January 1948. The quake was measured at 9.0 on the Richter Scale and it destroyed or levelled most of the buildings in the area. The Church was eventually rebuilt and finally consecrated in late 1966. That is the Church we see today!

It was named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The historic and old Church of Our Lady of the Pillar, Imus, Cavite, ManilaFergus Ducharme
This is an old and historic Church built by the Recollects in the 1800's. It has generally withstood the ravages of Typhoons and Earthquakes, although not completely. The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is located at the Baclaran Church in Manila. It is a rather modern Church and technically does not fit into the ‘mold’ of what we consider an Old and Historic Church. It was consecrated in 1958. It’s status as a National Shrine merits it consideration in our studies.

St Lawrence the Deacon Church, Panitan, Capiz, Episode 2Fergus Ducharme
The Church in Panitan, Capiz has a very interesting Patron Saint. He was St Lawrence who was a Spanish deacon of the Church in the years 257 and 258 in Rome. What is interesting is what this young man did and how he met his end through the most horrendous martyrdom possible. We tell his story briefly to provide some background to what we found when we visited this lovely spacious and airy church. He is the same St Lawrence after whom Jacques Cartier named the majestic St Lawrence River when he discovered Canada in the early 1500's..

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
