This document discusses management options for obesity, including medical management with drugs like Orlistat and Liraglutide, as well as various bariatric surgery procedures. Bariatric surgery is also called metabolic surgery because it can help treat metabolic syndrome conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Common bariatric surgeries mentioned include gastric banding, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and biliopancreatic diversion. All procedures aim to reduce stomach size and/or bypass parts of the small intestine to induce weight loss, but they differ in their mechanisms and risks. Post-operative follow-up care and potential complications are also addressed.
