Obama Pros And Cons Government Shutdown
The word on the hill is that if Republicans don't cave and fund Obama's DHS amnesty scheme that
they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that before? Back
in 2013 the government was partially shutdown for 16 days over funding fight that centered around
Obamacare. Republicans eventually folded and Barry got his boondoggle fully funded. The
argument at the time was that Republicans would be blamed for the shutdown and 2014 would be a
disaster, even to the point of Democrats retaking control of the House. Of course, we know what
happened. A historic ass kicking by the Repubs not only increased their numbers in the House, but
gave them the Senate. Fast forward to 2015 where a DHS bill that includes Obama's ... Show more

Now we get this, and it is Republicans blaming themselves with an eloquence that the Democrats
could never muster. Barack Obama has broken every law and presidential protocol he could get his
hands on. Harry Reid has done the same in the Senate. But when the Republicans finally gain power
in Congress, they see themselves as hamstrung by the Democrats and admonish themselves for their
self imposed impotence. Yes, there are those holding firm, like the Ted Cruz' of the Senate, but those
men and women are pariahs in the Republican party, with a target on their back the size of Mitch

Government Shutdown In America
October 1st of 2013, United States faced a governmental scare through the government shutdown.
Congress could not agree upon a reasonable budget for the government at the time which led the
government to "shutdown all non essential services," according to ABC News (Goldman). Many
people lacked the income needed and vital resources became barren. This majorly affected
America's economy; leaving us in about "$4 billion in tax refunds" (Burwell). The shutdown also
had the opportunity to impact import and export licenses which heavily affected trade (Burwell).
The Alaskan King Crab market imparticularly took a deep plunge during this time, for Autumn was
their main season for fishing but now their fundings were being taken away. Due to the chance of
lacking a license for Alaskan Crab, exporting could have a major impact on the Japanese holiday
market, being right around the corner (Johnson). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alaskan Crab only "makes up 8% of the total sold in the US" (Stewart) which leaves room for many
other King Crab companies to make profit. When something puts their fishing season on hold,
which only lasts the fall (Red), profits and jobs desperately hurt, and it does not matter whether it is
because of government or weather. While the King Crab market was already predicted to crash ,
Japan also had their holiday market ready for imports to begin October 15th (Red), yet the shutdown
did not end till the 16th which led to predicted drops in profits. Needless to say Alaskan King Crab
had a bunch on the line with Japan if this shipment were not to

Essay On Government Shutdown
The Congress has had many ups and downs, but what they want the people, us, to focus on are all
the positives. Congress' increase dysfunction has had lots of impacts on the United States. Most
people have taken into consideration if our Congress is still as strong as it once was. The Congress
doesn't out into consideration on how every decision will create a ripple effect on the citizens of
America. Congress has so much so much power, then why is it so dysfunctional? Some of the many
reasons for Congress' increase dysfunction over the last couple of decades are the government
shutdown that happened last year and less compromise to get things done. For example, the
government shutdown that occurred in 2013 impacted millions of Americans. When I had first ...

damage. Despite the many problems the government shutdown caused, the Congress itself causes
most of the reasons why it's so dysfunctional. Congress members rarely like to compromise, which
is why there is a lot of dispute. The lack of agreement is what causes a gridlock to occur in a
legislature. "The percentage of gridlocked issues has more than doubled since 1950 and is close to a

Essay On Government Shutdowns
Government shutdowns are complicated, but with the increase of Government shutdowns per
decade, Americans are frequently asking questions such as 'What problems can be caused due to
increased Government Shutdowns and why do they happen so often?', or 'What might we face in our
future and how will this effect possibly all aspects of the American life we know today.', more often
than not, leaving most Americans clueless as to what all this means and why it keeps happening. To
truly understand what government shutdowns are and why they happen, we must first reflect on the
history of government shutdowns and what led to the frequency at which they occur today.

The word 'Omnibus' is a term frequently used to explain a proposed law that covers several diverse
or unrelated to government topics. This is the hinging factor that leads to Government shutdowns in
most cases. Complicated topics like funding abortion through Medicaid, act as continuous causes for
spending gaps through disagreement. Though these issues typically come to be resolved, many of
the leading issues cause if not one, then multiple shutdowns until an agreement is made.
Government shutdowns throughout the past have had many impacts on jobs, vets, active military,
disabled, and average American workers. A seemingly simple 6–day government shutdown costs
Americans on average 800 million dollars. In lost revenue alone 400 million dollars as well as
another 400 million dollars to furloughed federal employees according to D. Matthews of the
Washington Post is lost. () Some people argue that a Government shutdown is healthy on the
economy. On the contrary Government shutdowns increase Government spending to balance the
amounts owed to employees and businesses as well as halt basic progression in U.S. funded
programs. Basic functions that play crucial roles in Americans lives are affected during these times

Federal Government Regulatory Agencies
Question #1: The government in its duties and responsibilities to its citizen sometimes needs to
regulate the behaviors and actions of private citizens or corporation for the common good. Most of
the time regulations are designed by statute but the enforcement of the statues are carried out by
regulatory agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Election
commission (FEC). Regulatory agencies don't just exist at the federal level either, Federal regulatory
agencies like the FDA and FEC carry out federally mandated regulations passed down from
Congress of the executive branch but the same principle applies at the State and Local levels as well

At the most basic division, there are three main levels of governments in the United States; The
Federal level, the State level, and the Local level. Each of these levels has their own legitimacy,
their own authority/jurisdiction and most of the time has their own way wo working with or around
the other levels though there is sometimes clashes. Let's start with Legitimacy first. The Constitution
of the United States of America is the overarching document that gives legitimacy and the authority
to govern to the various governments in the U.S, but specifically the Federal government. States in
the United States also have their own constitutions that they draw legitimacy and authority from as
well as specific regulations. The Constitution also act a the framework for what the different levels
of government are authorized to do, thought the 14th amendment opened the floodgates on authority
for the Federal government. But in a generalized sense, The federal government acts mostly in the
areas of foreign policy, national defense and any endeavors that cross state jurisdictions in the U.S,
particularly interstate commerce. State governments focus mostly on directly providing for and
regulating goods and services within their state, along with distributing federal grant money and
transferring money to local services. Local governments almost exclusively provide goods and
services within their jurisdiction and utilize funds from both the federal and state levels. As per the
U.S. Constitution the Federal government has the authority to; Lay and collect taxes, provide for the
common defence, provide for the general welfare, borrow money, regulate commerce with foreign
nations, Indian tribes, and between states, establish rules of Naturalization, coin money, constitute
tribunals to the supreme court, establish post offices and post roads, deal with

Essay On The Alaska Government Shutdown
The 2013 government shutdown has affected many different countries and corporations. The
shutdown lasted for sixteen days, and it had a drastic effect it had on people all around the country.
Sylvia Burwell, from the United States government, says the cost of the shutdown or "the lost
productivity of furloughed workers – was $2.0 billion". The United States shutdown to keep
themselves from going over budget, which eventually backfired. Shutting down that affected people
who do not work for the United States (US) government, but also people who work in restaurants or
in tourist locations because their attractions have been temporarily shut down.
Alaskan fishers had "delays [that] cost fishermen thousands of dollars of lost revenue per day"
which had a major effect of the economy in Alaska. The Alaskan king crab is what Alaska is known

Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis
Sir William Golding's 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies, written during the aftermath of the Second
World War, is more than just words on paper. It is a satire that reflects what would happen if society
did not have civilization, what would happen if our government systems and rules did not exist. His
novel expresses his view on the world after personally experiencing a war, seeing the peril of
society, witnessing the horrors of the events that took place at Juno Beach and living in a war.
Throughout the novel there are references to civilization and a proper working democratic
government with set rules, a leader and a congress system. It is simple, without civilization we fail;
we cannot survive without government. (pg 12) When Piggy suggest Ralph put together a list of
every name and (pg 20) when he explained to Ralph that using the conch to call the others would be
a good idea. After the others were summoned, a meeting of sorts began to take place. A fair leader,
Ralph, was elected and set jobs, rules and guidelines were established. At first it did work, their
government system, until people began to grow tired of putting effort into things, began depending
on others and deciding that their own needs be met before those of others. Ralph was elected solely
because he had the conch, there was no insight to how the other boys could have been as leaders.
There was no time for a peer evaluation and examination of how the other boys would lead each

Government Shutdown Of The Federal Bureaucracy In The...
The text describes a bureaucracy as a large, complex organization composed of appointed officials.
The departments and agencies of the US government make up the federal bureaucracy. The federal
bureaucracy has 15 federal cabinet departments with about 2 million full–time employees. (Wilson
et al, 290) "There have been 18 government shutdowns in modern U.S. political history. There were
six shutdowns ranging from eight to 17 days in the late 1970s, but the duration of government
shutdowns shrank dramatically beginning in the 1980s." (Murse) In the event of a federal
government shutdown, some programs and agencies are affected, whereas, others are not or only
partially affected. When there is a shutdown, the government is able to decide what

Critique of the Government Shutdown Essay
On October 1 the U.S. Government shutdown, that's right the only thing keeping us from complete
and total anarchy shutdown for 16 days. So why are we treating it like this is some common media
trash. Our Government may be acting like a bunch of kids when it comes to the debt crisis but
having to shut down over a disagreement seems like a bit of a drastic measure. The shutdown caused
many programs to shutdown, though many more where still able to function. If the shutdown had
lasted longer there would have been an even bigger issue. Something this big isn't a joke this could
have turned out significantly worse and people need to understand this. This debt problem that had a
large impact on this shutdown didn't just pop out of nowhere. ... Show more content on

But unfortunately many national parks and memorials had to be shut down because without funding
there was no way to cover the costs to stay open. This caused problems with many veterans who
wished to enter the war memorials. This even led to a riot and a break in at a World War 2
Memorial. Many federal workers were furloughed which basically means that they were let off
temporarily till the government started back up. So large sums of workers were given a vacation, but
if the government had been shut down longer, this could have become a very pressing issue. After
the shutdown some research was done to see just which states where hit the hardest. According to
NBC Washington Virginia was the state that had the hardest impact from the shutdown. Many of
Virginias mortgage loans, on real estate, where backed up with federal funds causing many houses
to foreclose. Virginia was also pushed to the top of the list by being the second largest state that
houses the most veterans. All of this shows that the people in Virginia where impacted the worst
from the shutdown. The biggest problem that still seems to be a very significant issue that the
politicians like to toy with is the damn debt ceiling. Instead of treating the debt ceiling for what it is,
a limit that should never be exceeded, our politicians decide to raise it whenever the debt gets closer.
China isn't impressed. This is an issue that will only spark further shutdowns and should be our
highest priority.

The Absences Of Government
Many people in the world feel like the government is not necessary and exists for the sole purpose
of controlling or putting power over people. However, the government serves three distinct purposes
and without it, countries would quickly fall apart, and eventually the world would follow suit.
Governments exist to maintain authority, ensure national security, and manage society for the good
of all of the citizens. While some people may argue that there are countries that have survived in the
absence of government, these countries have often times become a failed state. According to John
Presley in his lecture entitled, The Absences of Government, a failed state is defined by a
government that cannot uphold to their purposes, which causes countries to become unstable and

According to Brad Plumer of The Washington Post, when a government shutdown occurs, the CDC
is forced to stop many of its operations. The CDC provides many health safety programs and
regulations for health professionals. Without this organization running, the United States could
easily face a disease outbreak and have no way to stop it. Plumer also says, "During the shutdown,
the Food and Drug Administration will have to cease most of its food–safety operations." This
means that there would be nobody regulating where our dairy, poultry, and other sources of food
come from. If no one is regulating our food, it could easily be contaminated yet people would still
receive the product. When the government is active, these organizations run smoothly, but once
there is no government, the organizations are nonfunctional. During that short absence of
government, our country also loses many of its efforts to maintain society. When a government
shutdown occurs, we face sharp repercussions that could have easily been avoided in the presence of

Technology And The Rights Of A State Of Emergency
Technology and the rights that are written in the constitution is a privilege that people must not take
advantage of in order for them to keep on having it for their life time. For those people who step out
of that line that is draw and cause issue for others. Then society has every right to protect its self
from those kind of induvial. Such as cause problems like potentially dangerous leaks that may force
other in direct path of harm way or if people miss use them like Tools for communication, tools for
oppression, or causing the Shutdown of communication in free countries.
For the purpose of, Shutting down communication in free countries was one of the things that I
learned in way that I have better understanding why some governments go down that route in order
to protect people from them self and others. For example, the government dose of power to take way
people rights in a state of emergency including the freedom of speech where people can say
whatever they want without causing harm to individuals. However, if a person or people do beyond
want is considered rational and society is in jeopardy of crashing down. The government can
become a ruler or powerfully entity by putting in Marshall Law that basically means place of
residence or country is on lock down and the government is full control that area and peoples
actions. However, technology and communication has brought a new spin on how people take out

The Impact Of Facebook On Citizen Engagement
on the power that social media sites possess on citizen engagement. However, a study done in 2011
examined the usefulness of Facebook pages as a way to connect citizens with each other (many–to–
many) for policy input versus the utilization of those social media sites to transmit to and receive
from government to citizens (one–to–many) in a more authoritative manner . The study was done to
examine the use of Facebook to maintain power relations and inform citizens about their views
rather than using the platform for the soft of connectivity for which it was intended: that is flat,
egalitarian networked communications or even iterated and critical feedback exchanges . Results are
promising to better the future link for citizen engagement. Social media can be the resource used to
increase interaction between government and citizens. Today this form of social media
communication is on a rise and is becoming an accepted part of everyday life. By establishing a
right kind of respect and privacy this tool will replace the old with the new and open doors to new
interactions between the government and social media. As much as social media may appear to be
the missing link between government and citizen interaction, it may have a dark side. Social media

Taking a Look at Government Shutdowns
A government shutdown can be a scary and traumatic event, but how worried should America really
be? What causes a shutdown to happen? Under the Constitution, Congress must pass laws to spend
money. If Congress cannot agree on a spending bill –or the president vetoes it– the government does
not have the legal authority to spend money. Therefore, the House and Senate must agree on a law to
pass one. If they cannot agree, they will briefly shutdown the government until they come to
resolution. Any shutdown would begin when the fiscal year ends (12 month period, starting October
1 and ending September 30) and it would end immediately after the president signs a spending bill.
Most government shutdowns last no more than three days. Some last less than a day but the longest
was 21 days, from December 16, 1995, through January 5, 1996. From 1976 to present, there have
been 17 shutdowns according to the Congressional Research Service. However, there are no
recorded shutdowns before 1976. In a government shutdown, only "non–essential" functions of the
federal government close down, while all "essential" functions of the government remain operating.
Generally, all government functions that ensure safety and protect property remain open and in

Have you ever been to a restaurant and seen a roach walk across the dining room floor?
Roach violation should mean the shutdown of your restaurant. The government should have stricter
laws for restaurant with reoccurring roach violations, not allow the reopen of such places.
My plan to eliminate such problems include the forcing shutdown of restaurant at first violations, to
not allow the reopen. We as society should not have to be worrying about dining out or about seeing
a violation sign stating this restaurant has had such violations.

On January 20, 2018, the United States government shutdown when the Extension of Continuing
Appropriations Act of 2018, a bill to fund the federal government, failed to pass Congress. The
reason for this was due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans on a proposed

In response, Democrats, those who supported the DACA extension, led a filibuster in the Senate that
effectively halted any legislative progress on the bill. Despite Republicans enacting a a cloture vote,

Economic History of Countries
1. Are there any hidden assumptions or price rigidities in the country or countries that might inhibit
market force indicators from revealing the true economic health of the country, thereby either
preventing government policy actions from correcting the problems or otherwise making them
ineffective and counterproductive? This is absolutely the case. Prior economic histories of countries
around the world have proven that there are general results that can be expected from a given action
or series of actions, but this does not always hold true. The current state of affairs in the United
States is a glistening example of that. The groundwork and root statistics of the United States
economy circa February 2013 are pretty good, but jobless rates are still too high and GDP growth is
anemic to nothing. There are two commonly attributable reasons for that. The first is that businesses
are being very conservative with their funds. They're not investing and spending the way they
usually would because of the uneven and unpredictable conditions that are seen with the federal
government, the level of spending in general and the wider market.
The second primary reason that the economy is seemingly stuck in low gear is because consumer
spending is way down, just as home values are way down, and this has led to a much higher savings
rates rather than consumers making purchases discretionary and high–ticket items in general.
What this leads to is that even if the government of the United

Abstract
This trust paper explores the 2013 United States Federal Government shutdown incident along with
the trust theory as it relates to this issue. The more recent shutdown was contributed to the split party
lines and Congress resisting to pass a budget with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in place. Trust
between government and constituents have been a long struggle as public servants work to build
trust after an issue like the Federal Government shutdown occurs. The research provided in the
paper analyzes theories on the reasons for the lack of trust and how public servants can build trust.

The Pros And Cons Of Government Shutdown
Two years ago, in 2013, the government was shut down due to disagreement between the two parties
in Congress. There may be another closure. On September 9 at 7 A.M., The Washington Post
published an article stating the possibility of government shutdown on October 1, 2015. Congress is
way behind on passing spending bills that would allow funding for the government; the problem lies
within the disagreement about spending and where cuts should be made: it also stems from both
parties trying to push their ideology into the agenda. All the disagreement prolongs the process for
these bills to be passed. The deadline for the bills to be passed is September 30. If the government

A government shutdown would ultimately bring everything to a standstill. When to political parties
on a specific topic, it takes twice as long to come to terms since they cannot agree on what to cut
and how much. The politics dictate what gets passed and when., and it is crucial to ensure the bill
for government spending is passed on time. Government funding isn't something that should be
taken lightly. Without a bill passed to fund the government, all the agencies will not be able to
function and support the general public. The primary people whose job are at stake are the federal
workers, therefore leaving those people unemployed. Another pitfall of government shutdown is that
each day that the government is inoperable the national deficit worsens. It costs money to shut down
a government. The FDA and the EPA which help regulates businesses that portect the people from
harm in their food as well as envrioemtn, can be put on hold as well, allowing no food inspections
which can affect public health.Loans from the goernemnt will be on hold which stiffles small
buiness needing a kick start to their buisinesses. Probably the biggest issue a shutdown would pose

November 19, 1995 is a day most Americans are grateful for. These are the dates the government
shutdown, and the date that the shutdown concluded and the headaches were over for the citizens of
America. Or so they thought. A partial government shutdown again proceeded to happen on
December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996. It is days like this that made America what it is today (E.
Green). In 1995 President Bill Clinton and Republican House were in a stalemate. They could not
agree on budget spending. The Republican House was primarily led by house speaker Newt
Gingrich. Clinton and Gingrich were fighting over how the budget should be cut. Contrary to

President Bill Clinton obtained many of his votes due to how he handled the shutdown and the
Republican house. Potentially, if Clinton didn't have to manage the shutdown then he may have not
been reelected. Maybe America would have been better off with a new president, but we cannot
change that past. What is done is done and we have to live with our choices that we have made.
When people think of the government shutdown many think of quite simply the downfalls. This is
most logically because the negatives of a government shutdown over power the positives. Just like
most things though, there were some plus sides to the shutdown. Gingrich stated that the shutdown
led to a balanced budget deal, and without the shutdown it may have never been arrived at (E.
Green) Neither side ever wanted the issue to become so out of hand that it was forced to shut down,
but that is what it led to. The shutdown was tough for both sides. Most Americans believe that the
shutdown was the Republicans fault, (National Journal) but it was actually fault on both sides. Both
sides were too bullheaded to realize the consequences that could arise and solve their problems
without a fight. There is no perfect way to solve this problem. Mainly because it is over a big issue.
Potentially if one side would have been more willing to work together, maybe some of the dispute
could have been resolved

Government Shutdown
By evaluating the devastating effects of the government shutdown in October of 2013, as a result of
an "absence of appropriations" and the government's inability to enact an authorization for the
continuing resolutions of the following year, one can scrutinize the numerous businesses that have
been implicated by this event. Consequences relating to this shutdown have caused great
discrepancies throughout the nation, for many workers were "asked to work without pay."
Furthermore, since the "federal government was left to run out of money," many companies have
been forced to stop working due to the delay in the processing of quotas; not to mention, other
programs that ensure the well–being of people, one of which is the Food and Drug Administration,

According to NBC News' article, "Sorry, we're closed: Government shutdown ripples across the
country," published on October 1, 2013, written by Matthew DeLuca, it describes how many of the
general population were affected when Congress members failed to reach a consensus regarding the
government's finances and budgets. The Senate rejected laws proposed by the Republican portion of
the House, which led to delays in the cancellation of the Affordable Care Act. This shutdown lasted
sixteen days, which angered many people. People were upset over the fact while they were going to
work, the government workers were not showing up for work. During the shutdown, many Senators'
offices were closed, meaning they weren't able to respond to requests from

The governments point of view is just to fund and make the NHS sucure for the people of the UK.
Another way to communicate to the national health care is through the staff striking. This is a means
of communication by showing there needs to be a change for the staff at the hospital. The NHS also
has face to face talks with their patients during their vist or stay at the hospitals. This shows that the
staff also want to be looked after by the government via payment.
The main stakeholder for Nike is the general public as they purchase the goods Nike produce and
the public is the main source of revenue for that organization, the genral public also somehow
sponser Nike by wearing their clothing brand , which is a need to get product. Another stakeholder
for the organization are companies such as sports direct, as they purchase Nikes goods as they're
competitors to other companies such as JD. Nike sells it's good internationally which means
different countries will purchase their goods. Sport teams are also influenced in Nike as they
sponsors Nikes brand, as Nike pay them to advertise their logo in varies ways. The local community
would also be seen as a stakeholder depending on the response to Nike, positive or negative. The
government is also affected due to business tax. The more stores Nike open the more tax money the

Impact of the Federal Government Shut Down
The federal government shutdown that happened for two weeks in October of 2013 had a big impact
on the economy. Congress failed to pass legislation that that funds government spending in which

people dealt with the hardship of the shutdown due to the fact that the money that was stalled

The Government Shutdown In The United States
October 1st, 2013 began the 16–day long shutdown for the United States government. Although the
reason for the shutdown originated with disputes between the President Barack Obama and the
United States Congress over "Washington [overspending] their projected budget," the final nail in
the shutdown boiled down to the dissimilar views of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
As a result, the government shutdown further intensified the lack of unity between the two political
parties. Along with a divided country, every government–run functions ceased, "cost[ing] the
Federal government billions of dollars." Emily Jarvis, an editor for GovLoop as well as a writer for

Despite the government's best efforts, even the most diligent workers were furloughed. PBS, an

published by the Office of Personnel Management, surveyed that 44% of federal employees felt that
they had sufficient resources to do their job, making it an all time low compared to years before. In
addition to those conditions, the Guidance for Shutdown Furloughs revealed that workers were not
even paid during their dire time. With the best and brightest employees not working and employee

Congress has one key duty in the Constitution. This duty is to pass spending bills that fund the
government (Yan, 2013). If Congress does not pass a funding bill, most functions of government,
such as funding agencies, paying out small business loans, and processing passport requests, will
halt and some services, like Social Security, air traffic control and active military pay, will continue
to be funded (Yan, 2013). A government shutdown is the closure of non–essential offices of the
government due to lack of approval on the government programs budget for the upcoming fiscal
year (Investopedia Staff, 2011). From the time that the United States of America gained
independence, until January of 2017, the United States has experienced eighteen government
shutdowns. The most recent government shutdown in modern United States history is the

One example of a negative effect would be the halting of pay and delayed pay. Over eight–hundred
thousand federal employees were without pay during the shutdown as a result of the halt of funding
agencies during the shutdown (Appleton, 2014). In addition to the eight–hundred thousand federal
employees, more than a million other working employees had paychecks delayed (Appleton, 2014).
Because of the financial problems cause from the shutdown, Congress voted to give furloughed
government employees retroactive pay on the fifth day of the shutdown (Appleton, 2014). Another
example of a negative effect would be the cost of the shutdown. By October 17th, the day the

Writing Assignment #1–Civility
"When once the forms of civility are violated, there remains little hope of return to kindness or
decency"(Johnson csmonitor.com). Samuel Johnson, English writer and essayist, popular in the 19th
century, sums up the reality of modern American politics in such a simple sentence. However, the
simple warning, unheeded, has surely stymied and gridlocked American government to such an
extent, that even the most diehard believers in democracy are finding the current political
environment to be permanently toxic and therefore, hopelessly ineffective. When did it all go
wrong? One of the best examples of two political rivals that warred fiercely from 9–5, but liked and
respected one another after hours, comes in the friendship of President Ronald Reagan and House
Speaker Tip O'Neill. Reagan and O'Neill disagreed on nearly everything that a politician can include

In times when the U.S. confronts serious threats extremist rhetoric sometimes seems appropriate and
necessary. One could argue that speeches advocating the end of slavery or the fight against modern
terrorists was justified. However, those well meaning words can plant thoughts of violence in the
minds of the easily persuaded to commit violence to gain results (Davis upenn.edu). Rhetoric used
by political leaders is sometimes uncivil because politicians do not consider the consequences of
what they say or do before they execute their plans. With this being said, it would be extremely
difficult to remedy the incivility of political discourse without damaging the right of free speech
granted by the first amendment; however, President Obama's speech in Tucson, Arizona offers
sound advice for political leaders, speechmakers, and those who have a wide reaching

Jarvis (2014) asserted that during the shutdown, more than one third of the government workforce
was furloughed because their position was not deemed "excepted." Government management
official was left to sort out what positions were "excepted" or "non–excepted" with a mere
understanding of contractual terms (Brass, 2014; Curren, 2015). Rep. Alan Grayson, D–Fla., added
that the government shutdown stagnates the economy and disrupts federal employees' ability to do
their jobs (Katz, 2015). This literature review will be broken into four sections: (a) government

Essay On Government Shutdown
How does government shutdown affect the U.S. economy? Government shutdown occurs when the
Congress fail to pass legislation funding the government operations and agencies. During the normal
budget process, the Congress appropriate funds by September 30 for the following fiscal year. When
this fail, the government activities or operations cease and federal employees are divided into
essential and non–essential groups. But in 1995, the division were changed to excepted and non–
excepted. Historically, the government has official shut downs 18 times since 1976, which it first
took effect when Congress passes budget and spending bills. The first six shut downs didn't affect
the government at all. Non–essential workers were put into furloughs, which means federal
employees are off work until shut down is over and they do not receive paychecks while in furlough.

workers' pay were withheld but had to work during furlough. In the same year, many government
activities were cut off. Below were the effects of shut downs and furloughs: Tax refunds totaling
almost $4 billion were delayed. The Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program went
unfunded. Federal research activities at the National Institutes of Health (which lost about three–
quarters of its employees), the National Science Foundation (which lost 98 percent of its workforce),
and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (which lost two–thirds) shut down nearly
entirely; the CDC scaled back its monitoring of disease outbreaks. Environmental Protection

Should Government Shutdown Be Retrogressive?
Political commentators argue that another government shutdown as proposed by the Republican
Party would be retrogressive. However, preventing another government shutdown requires
collective action from the President and Congress. A delay in passing the appropriations bill is
responsible for hampering the government spending plans for the 2016 fiscal year. According to
political scholars spending caps introduced by the Obama administration are viable given that they
limit the maximum amount of government expenditure. Additionally, the Budget Control Act is
given credit for reducing the level of federal spending. Some members of Congress against spending

The Burdensome Issue Of Social Media
Jessica Lardenoit
AP English Literature

Satire
The most burdensome issue society faces today results from our obsessive need to be connected to
electronics and social media. This issue stems into many aspects of our daily lives. What was once
thought to be an exciting advancement has now caused a myriad of problems in society. Today's
generation is faced with the rising levels of obesity, lack of focus, poor communication skills, which
in turn has created a far less intellectual society. With the internet, smart phones, video games,
movies, television and numerous other technological advancements improving daily, the youth in
our society are becoming corrupt. They are becoming desensitized, uninspired, and underqualified.
We are shaping the newest generations to become dull robots who just conform to the latest, greatest
fads.
Social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, are becoming tools to drain the
intelligence of adolescences until they only converse with instant messaging lingo. It is an
instrument for teenagers to become secluded from society where they only spend time in their rooms
and online. With the pressure from their peers to update their statuses every few minutes, teenagers
focus more on what 140 character message they will send out next, instead of what school work they
have. They care more about what selfie to post instead of spending valuable time with their families.
Television and video games have sucked

Stolen Voice Of Democracy
The Stolen Voice of a Democracy
The famous French writer, philosopher, and historian Voltaire once said, "I do not agree with what

citizens are being harassed for thinking differently than the government. The lack of freedom of

Secondly, peaceful political protests are violently interrupted killing hundreds of protesters.

Their will to exercise it is their choice, not the government's. In this everchanging world, the fight

The Audacity Of Hope Analysis
In Service of the People
As Abraham Lincoln famously stated in his Gettysburg Address, government is "of the people, by
the people, [and] for the people" (Lincoln). In the memoir The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama,
the disconnected world of politics is explored, with the aim of finding the essence of American
government, the body that was able to keep America united through civil rights struggles, numerous
wars, and financial depressions. That unifying force, through the government, is the American
people, all of their joint morals, convictions, and goals that they share, Obama portrays the

When Obama made the decision to forego the comfort of traveling by jet between Washington and
Illinois, he was able to reconnect with his constituents. This allowed Obama to see how the
government has the potential to aid the poor, helping them with educational, social, and economic
aid. However, many people are opposed to government assistance for a slew of reasons. Senator
Marco Rubio from Florida believes that "we need to make sure our government programs encourage
work, not dependence" (Rubio). He argues that government assistance will lead to a culture of
government dependence, instead of truly helping people out. Others, such as President Grover
Cleveland back in 1887, believe that should not intervene ever, even for matters as trivial as when
there was a shortage of grain. He did not think that the "duty of the General Government ought to be
extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public
service or benefit" (Shapiro, 9). However, outside these political and ideological circles, the negative

Obama Pros And Cons Government Shutdown

  • 1. Obama Pros And Cons Government Shutdown The word on the hill is that if Republicans don't cave and fund Obama's DHS amnesty scheme that they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that before? Back in 2013 the government was partially shutdown for 16 days over funding fight that centered around Obamacare. Republicans eventually folded and Barry got his boondoggle fully funded. The argument at the time was that Republicans would be blamed for the shutdown and 2014 would be a disaster, even to the point of Democrats retaking control of the House. Of course, we know what happened. A historic ass kicking by the Repubs not only increased their numbers in the House, but gave them the Senate. Fast forward to 2015 where a DHS bill that includes Obama's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now we get this, and it is Republicans blaming themselves with an eloquence that the Democrats could never muster. Barack Obama has broken every law and presidential protocol he could get his hands on. Harry Reid has done the same in the Senate. But when the Republicans finally gain power in Congress, they see themselves as hamstrung by the Democrats and admonish themselves for their self imposed impotence. Yes, there are those holding firm, like the Ted Cruz' of the Senate, but those men and women are pariahs in the Republican party, with a target on their back the size of Mitch McConnell's ... • 3. Government Shutdown In America October 1st of 2013, United States faced a governmental scare through the government shutdown. Congress could not agree upon a reasonable budget for the government at the time which led the government to "shutdown all non essential services," according to ABC News (Goldman). Many people lacked the income needed and vital resources became barren. This majorly affected America's economy; leaving us in about "$4 billion in tax refunds" (Burwell). The shutdown also had the opportunity to impact import and export licenses which heavily affected trade (Burwell). The Alaskan King Crab market imparticularly took a deep plunge during this time, for Autumn was their main season for fishing but now their fundings were being taken away. Due to the chance of lacking a license for Alaskan Crab, exporting could have a major impact on the Japanese holiday market, being right around the corner (Johnson). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alaskan Crab only "makes up 8% of the total sold in the US" (Stewart) which leaves room for many other King Crab companies to make profit. When something puts their fishing season on hold, which only lasts the fall (Red), profits and jobs desperately hurt, and it does not matter whether it is because of government or weather. While the King Crab market was already predicted to crash , Japan also had their holiday market ready for imports to begin October 15th (Red), yet the shutdown did not end till the 16th which led to predicted drops in profits. Needless to say Alaskan King Crab had a bunch on the line with Japan if this shipment were not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay On Government Shutdown The Congress has had many ups and downs, but what they want the people, us, to focus on are all the positives. Congress' increase dysfunction has had lots of impacts on the United States. Most people have taken into consideration if our Congress is still as strong as it once was. The Congress doesn't out into consideration on how every decision will create a ripple effect on the citizens of America. Congress has so much so much power, then why is it so dysfunctional? Some of the many reasons for Congress' increase dysfunction over the last couple of decades are the government shutdown that happened last year and less compromise to get things done. For example, the government shutdown that occurred in 2013 impacted millions of Americans. When I had first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the critical programs affected are National Institutes of Health and Environmental Protection Agency. Both programs had to be put on pause and caused a lot of damage. Despite the many problems the government shutdown caused, the Congress itself causes most of the reasons why it's so dysfunctional. Congress members rarely like to compromise, which is why there is a lot of dispute. The lack of agreement is what causes a gridlock to occur in a legislature. "The percentage of gridlocked issues has more than doubled since 1950 and is close to a new high" (Blake, Aaron. "Gridlock in Congress? It's probably even worse than you think." . N.p., 29 May 2014. Essay On Government Shutdowns Government shutdowns are complicated, but with the increase of Government shutdowns per decade, Americans are frequently asking questions such as 'What problems can be caused due to increased Government Shutdowns and why do they happen so often?', or 'What might we face in our future and how will this effect possibly all aspects of the American life we know today.', more often than not, leaving most Americans clueless as to what all this means and why it keeps happening. Though these issues typically come to be resolved, many of the leading issues cause if not one, then multiple shutdowns until an agreement is made. • 9. Federal Government Regulatory Agencies Question #1: The government in its duties and responsibilities to its citizen sometimes needs to regulate the behaviors and actions of private citizens or corporation for the common good. Most of the time regulations are designed by statute but the enforcement of the statues are carried out by regulatory agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Election commission (FEC). Regulatory agencies don't just exist at the federal level either, Federal regulatory agencies like the FDA and FEC carry out federally mandated regulations passed down from Congress of the executive branch but the same principle applies at the State and Local levels as well who have regulations passed down from their individual statehouses and governor's ... Let's start with Legitimacy first. The Constitution of the United States of America is the overarching document that gives legitimacy and the authority to govern to the various governments in the U.S, but specifically the Federal government. States in the United States also have their own constitutions that they draw legitimacy and authority from as well as specific regulations. • 11. Essay On The Alaska Government Shutdown The 2013 government shutdown has affected many different countries and corporations. The shutdown lasted for sixteen days, and it had a drastic effect it had on people all around the country. Sylvia Burwell, from the United States government, says the cost of the shutdown or "the lost productivity of furloughed workers – was $2.0 billion". • 13. Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis Sir William Golding's 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies, written during the aftermath of the Second World War, is more than just words on paper. It is a satire that reflects what would happen if society did not have civilization, what would happen if our government systems and rules did not exist. His novel expresses his view on the world after personally experiencing a war, seeing the peril of society, witnessing the horrors of the events that took place at Juno Beach and living in a war. Throughout the novel there are references to civilization and a proper working democratic government with set rules, a leader and a congress system. It is simple, without civilization we fail; we cannot survive without government. (pg 12) When Piggy suggest Ralph put together a list of every name and (pg 20) when he explained to Ralph that using the conch to call the others would be a good idea. After the others were summoned, a meeting of sorts began to take place. A fair leader, Ralph, was elected and set jobs, rules and guidelines were established. At first it did work, their government system, until people began to grow tired of putting effort into things, began depending on others and deciding that their own needs be met before those of others. The departments and agencies of the US government make up the federal bureaucracy. The federal bureaucracy has 15 federal cabinet departments with about 2 million full–time employees. (Wilson et al, 290) "There have been 18 government shutdowns in modern U.S. political history. There were six shutdowns ranging from eight to 17 days in the late 1970s, but the duration of government shutdowns shrank dramatically beginning in the 1980s." • 17. Critique of the Government Shutdown Essay On October 1 the U.S. Government shutdown, that's right the only thing keeping us from complete and total anarchy shutdown for 16 days. So why are we treating it like this is some common media trash. Our Government may be acting like a bunch of kids when it comes to the debt crisis but having to shut down over a disagreement seems like a bit of a drastic measure. The shutdown caused many programs to shutdown, though many more where still able to function. If the shutdown had lasted longer there would have been an even bigger issue. Something this big isn't a joke this could have turned out significantly worse and people need to understand this. This debt problem that had a large impact on this shutdown didn't just pop out of nowhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But unfortunately many national parks and memorials had to be shut down because without funding there was no way to cover the costs to stay open. This caused problems with many veterans who wished to enter the war memorials. This even led to a riot and a break in at a World War 2 Memorial. Many federal workers were furloughed which basically means that they were let off temporarily till the government started back up. So large sums of workers were given a vacation, but if the government had been shut down longer, this could have become a very pressing issue. After the shutdown some research was done to see just which states where hit the hardest. According to NBC Washington Virginia was the state that had the hardest impact from the shutdown. Many of Virginias mortgage loans, on real estate, where backed up with federal funds causing many houses to foreclose. Virginia was also pushed to the top of the list by being the second largest state that houses the most veterans. All of this shows that the people in Virginia where impacted the worst from the shutdown. The biggest problem that still seems to be a very significant issue that the politicians like to toy with is the damn debt ceiling. Instead of treating the debt ceiling for what it is, a limit that should never be exceeded, our politicians decide to raise it whenever the debt gets closer. China isn't impressed. This is an issue that will only spark further shutdowns and should be our highest priority. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Absences Of Government Many people in the world feel like the government is not necessary and exists for the sole purpose of controlling or putting power over people. However, the government serves three distinct purposes and without it, countries would quickly fall apart, and eventually the world would follow suit. Governments exist to maintain authority, ensure national security, and manage society for the good of all of the citizens. While some people may argue that there are countries that have survived in the absence of government, these countries have often times become a failed state. According to John Presley in his lecture entitled, The Absences of Government, a failed state is defined by a government that cannot uphold to their purposes, which causes countries to become unstable and unsafe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Brad Plumer of The Washington Post, when a government shutdown occurs, the CDC is forced to stop many of its operations. The CDC provides many health safety programs and regulations for health professionals. Without this organization running, the United States could easily face a disease outbreak and have no way to stop it. Plumer also says, "During the shutdown, the Food and Drug Administration will have to cease most of its food–safety operations." This means that there would be nobody regulating where our dairy, poultry, and other sources of food come from. If no one is regulating our food, it could easily be contaminated yet people would still receive the product. When the government is active, these organizations run smoothly, but once there is no government, the organizations are nonfunctional. During that short absence of government, our country also loses many of its efforts to maintain society. No need to dress up if she had the evening off. She brewed a pot of extremely strong coffee and ate a slice of dry toast as she waited. She never was a huge breakfast eater. She saw an open box of cereal with loose cereal pieces on the counter. She rolled her eyes as she cleaned up the mess and put the box away. The open box was one of her biggest pet peeves. Looks like Brayden had breakfast, she thought. He was a good kid, but messy. She supposed most kids were. She'd have to have a talk with him about it. However, a study done in 2011 examined the usefulness of Facebook pages as a way to connect citizens with each other (many–to– many) for policy input versus the utilization of those social media sites to transmit to and receive from government to citizens (one–to–many) in a more authoritative manner . The study was done to examine the use of Facebook to maintain power relations and inform citizens about their views rather than using the platform for the soft of connectivity for which it was intended: that is flat, egalitarian networked communications or even iterated and critical feedback exchanges . Results are promising to better the future link for citizen engagement. Social media can be the resource used to increase interaction between government and citizens. Today this form of social media communication is on a rise and is becoming an accepted part of everyday life. By establishing a right kind of respect and privacy this tool will replace the old with the new and open doors to new interactions between the government and social media. As much as social media may appear to be the missing link between government and citizen interaction, it may have a dark side. Social media can be used against the government. • 29. Taking a Look at Government Shutdowns A government shutdown can be a scary and traumatic event, but how worried should America really be? What causes a shutdown to happen? Under the Constitution, Congress must pass laws to spend money. If Congress cannot agree on a spending bill –or the president vetoes it– the government does not have the legal authority to spend money. Therefore, the House and Senate must agree on a law to pass one. If they cannot agree, they will briefly shutdown the government until they come to resolution. Any shutdown would begin when the fiscal year ends (12 month period, starting October 1 and ending September 30) and it would end immediately after the president signs a spending bill. Most government shutdowns last no more than three days. Some last less than a day but the longest was 21 days, from December 16, 1995, through January 5, 1996. From 1976 to present, there have been 17 shutdowns according to the Congressional Research Service. However, there are no recorded shutdowns before 1976. In a government shutdown, only "non–essential" functions of the federal government close down, while all "essential" functions of the government remain operating. • 35. Economic History of Countries 1. Are there any hidden assumptions or price rigidities in the country or countries that might inhibit market force indicators from revealing the true economic health of the country, thereby either preventing government policy actions from correcting the problems or otherwise making them ineffective and counterproductive? This is absolutely the case. Prior economic histories of countries around the world have proven that there are general results that can be expected from a given action or series of actions, but this does not always hold true. The current state of affairs in the United States is a glistening example of that. The groundwork and root statistics of the United States economy circa February 2013 are pretty good, but jobless rates are still too high and GDP growth is anemic to nothing. There are two commonly attributable reasons for that. The first is that businesses are being very conservative with their funds. They're not investing and spending the way they usually would because of the uneven and unpredictable conditions that are seen with the federal government, the level of spending in general and the wider market. The second primary reason that the economy is seemingly stuck in low gear is because consumer spending is way down, just as home values are way down, and this has led to a much higher savings rates rather than consumers making purchases discretionary and high–ticket items in general. On September 9 at 7 A.M., The Washington Post published an article stating the possibility of government shutdown on October 1, 2015. What is done is done and we have to live with our choices that we have made. When people think of the government shutdown many think of quite simply the downfalls. This is most logically because the negatives of a government shutdown over power the positives. Just like most things though, there were some plus sides to the shutdown. This is a major violation to our right to privacy which is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable for the government to have a substantial amount of surveillance of the internet to monitor terrorists and people seeking to cause harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is absurdly large and unnecessary. • 68. Should Government Shutdown Be Retrogressive? Political commentators argue that another government shutdown as proposed by the Republican Party would be retrogressive. However, preventing another government shutdown requires collective action from the President and Congress. A delay in passing the appropriations bill is responsible for hampering the government spending plans for the 2016 fiscal year. According to political scholars spending caps introduced by the Obama administration are viable given that they limit the maximum amount of government expenditure. Additionally, the Budget Control Act is given credit for reducing the level of federal spending. The Purpose For This Additional Presentation to CHCS BOD The purpose for this additional emergency meeting, in lieu of executive director Carol Mills's presentation on 12/2/16, will allow me the opportunity to thoroughly explain our strategic plan in the event of a potential or actual government shutdown. However, in preparation for this meeting, I emailed you and your fellow board members a copy of the "Meeting Agenda" and a copy of the Addendum to the 12/2/16 Memorandum, of which I will be referring to today. • 74. The Burdensome Issue Of Social Media Jessica Lardenoit AP English Literature Ms. Young P. 1 February 19, 2015 Satire The most burdensome issue society faces today results from our obsessive need to be connected to electronics and social media. This issue stems into many aspects of our daily lives. What was once thought to be an exciting advancement has now caused a myriad of problems in society. Today's generation is faced with the rising levels of obesity, lack of focus, poor communication skills, which in turn has created a far less intellectual society. With the internet, smart phones, video games, movies, television and numerous other technological advancements improving daily, the youth in our society are becoming corrupt. They are becoming desensitized, uninspired, and underqualified. We are shaping the newest generations to become dull robots who just conform to the latest, greatest fads. Social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, are becoming tools to drain the intelligence of adolescences until they only converse with instant messaging lingo. It is an instrument for teenagers to become secluded from society where they only spend time in their rooms and online. With the pressure from their peers to update their statuses every few minutes, teenagers focus more on what 140 character message they will send out next, instead of what school work they have. They care more about what selfie to post instead of spending valuable time with their families. Television and video games have sucked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stolen Voice Of Democracy The Stolen Voice of a Democracy The famous French writer, philosopher, and historian Voltaire once said, "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Many citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo feel that their right as a citizen to freedom of speech is being suppressed. Many citizens are being harassed for thinking differently than the government. The lack of freedom of speech in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a serious violation of citizen's rights. The Audacity Of Hope Analysis In Service of the People As Abraham Lincoln famously stated in his Gettysburg Address, government is "of the people, by the people, [and] for the people" (Lincoln). In the memoir The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama, the disconnected world of politics is explored, with the aim of finding the essence of American government, the body that was able to keep America united through civil rights struggles, numerous wars, and financial depressions. That unifying force, through the government, is the American people, all of their joint morals, convictions, and goals that they share, Obama portrays the government as an administrative body meant to serve all of its people, stand above all of the differences that pit different groups of people against ... This allowed Obama to see how the government has the potential to aid the poor, helping them with educational, social, and economic aid. Senator Marco Rubio from Florida believes that "we need to make sure our government programs encourage work, not dependence" (Rubio). He argues that government assistance will lead to a culture of government dependence, instead of truly helping people out. Others, such as President Grover Cleveland back in 1887, believe that should not intervene ever, even for matters as trivial as when there was a shortage of grain. He did not think that the "duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit" (Shapiro, 9).
