Persuasive Speech On Clothes
Did you know that the average American throws away more than 65 pounds of clothing each year
or that over 85% of clothing in the United States end up in landfills instead of being recycled or
that it takes over 1,000 gallons of water used to manufacture a single pair of jeans?
So let s say that you did know those unfortunate facts and you ve set out on an epic closet sweep
(and the kids closet) and have bags of clothes taking up space on your bedroom floor. Now, where
to donate?
The most easy and convenient option for many is to drop off your unwanted clothes at one of those
dumpster like donation bins that are found in random grocery store parking lots. However, there

Taking a Look at the Castellammarese War
The Castellammarese war was based in Castellammarese del Golfo, Sicily. The name
Castellammarese refers to immigrants from the town of Castellammare del Golfo in Western
Sicily. This war a power struggle for control of the Italian American Mafia between partisan and
Joe Masseria also known as The Boss and those of Salvatore Maranzano. The war lasted from
February, 1930 to April 15th, 1931. The Castellammarse war was between the forces of
Masseria and Maranzano. Tensions between the two were evident as far back as 1928, with one
side frequently hijacking the other s alcohol trucks. Both sided were fluid, with many mobsters
switching sides or killed their own allies during the war. Don Vito Ferro made a bid for control
of the Mafia operation in the United States. He sent Salvatore Maranzano to seize control. In the
1920s the United States Mafia operations were controlled by Giuseppe Joe The Boss Masseria,
whose faction consisted mainly of gangsters from Sicily, and the Calabria and Campania regions of
Southern Italy. Masseria s faction consisted well know gangsters such as Charles Lucky Luciano,
Albert Mad Hatter Anastasia, Vito Genovese, Alfred Mineo, Willie Morettie, Joe Adonis, and Frank
Costello. The Castellammarse faction in the United States included members such as Joseph Joe
Bananas Bonanno, Stefano The Undertaker Magaddino, Joseph Profaci, and Joe Aiello. Hostilities
began in February 26, 1930 when Masseria ordered the death of an ally, Gaetano

Dental Crowns Or Bonding
Is Dental Crowns, Veneers, Or Bonding Right For You?
If you need dental restoration, you may find it difficult to figure out what type of procedure will
work best for you. There are several advantages and disadvantages to each kind of procedure, and
by knowing what they are, you can make an informed decision on your own.
Bonding
The bonding process involves applying a resin onto the damaged tooth surface. The resin is made
with a very durable substance, and will bond directly to the tooth after exposing it to a bonding light.
While bonding is very cheap, the procedure it will not last as long as a crown or veneer. Many
people like bonding because it can be done in only one visit, and it requires very little preparation.
The procedure still

Global Expansion
WFM is trying to develop a strategic plan to grow their business in an extremely competitive
market. They are searching for ways to sustain their strong financial and cultural capabilities
without losing revenue. Societal trends are shifting towards a healthier and environmental lifestyle,
which is substantially affecting the foodretail industry. To keep up with these societal trends,
grocery stores are incorporating organic and healthier food products into the stores. This poses as a
threat towards WFM, as their value proposition is substantially losing its worth. WFM must assess
the company from an internal and external perspective in order to determine if expanding their
locations into Canada will be worthwhile. There is a variety of risks that the company must assess
prior to implementation. If WFM decides to expand through a slow process, there is a possibility of
their competition dominating the industry. In addition, WFM must understand that this expansion
will require extensive capital and a new logistic/distribution strategy. The plan that WFM decides to
instill must keep their current organizational culture consistent. WFM has been named America s

From a political perspective, the increasing organic foods regulations have been posing as a threat.
Regulations are becoming stricter and require an intensive amount of standards to meet. These
regulations ensure that companies are meeting the government implemented bilingual and
nutritional label requirements. However, uncertainty about these labels have arisen, resulting in
uncertainty amongst consumers. FCPP requirements have ensured that companies do not commit
fraud or misuse the organic label. Consumers rely on the legitimacy of certifications to ensure the

Long Distance Relationships
Does Long Distance Relationship ever Works? A relationship is said to be a connection, as in
thought, concerning or regarding something or someone. Therefore a long distance relationship
(LDR) is similar to a normal relationship but differs in terms of geographic location of the couple;
such location can range from 100 1000 miles, 100 3000 mile apart etc. Any dating or intimate
relationship with so much distance between both parties is no doubt challenging, but that one of the
things that comes along with LDRs relationships. Obviously each challenge has either a positive or
a negative result. Positives such as increased independence, personal growth, more free time, and
increased communication; while some negatives are lack of physical... Show more content on

Thirdly, phone sex is the most popular of these alternatives and it is about maintaining the
intimacy and sexuality that couples share (Bean 2). It s also an example of dirty talk, but with
some genital touching. As the name suggests, E sex is sex or sexual oriented emails between
couples as there aim is turn on their partner. Though there is little physical intimacy between
LDR couples, there are means and ways couples can share intimacy, intimacy that is scarce in a
LDR. Everything has its ups and downs so too is LDR as they have some positives and negatives.
Some positives of LDRs is that it enables partners to appreciate each other more, and they don t
take their partner for granted; thus developing a stronger connection through non physical
communication (Mietzner 2). The distance equals more free time, increased independence and
personal growth. Since one have so much free time one can pursue any other dreams or goals that
they could not pursue while they were not geographically separated. LDRs allow both parties to be
independent of each other and not be emotionally dependent on each other as they would be if they
were constantly together. This also strengthens the relationship bond, and increases communication
in the relationship; in addition, communication is made easier by the internet, cell phones, calling
cards, and enhanced postal services. Thus there is hope for LDRs. For LDRs to survive they must

The Importance Of Free Speech
Who are the guardians of free speech? Is it our elected members of parliament in Ottawa? Is it
our university student activists? The answer may surprise you. The University of Oxford s
Dahrendorf Programme hosted a debate to discuss whether or not the practice of noplatforming
is a legitimate tool of activism. While those in favour were passionate in their defence of the
practice, they failed to establish its legitimacy. The question of who gives the activists a
mandate to control the information being presented to the student body was largely ignored.
Those in favour argued that free speech is hypothetical and the marginalized must be protected.
Chi Chi evoked John Stewart Mill s harm principle, in that the harm done by allowing people
with a hateful or bigoted message justifies no platforming. The example she gave was Germaine
Greer s 2015 visit to Cardiff University. Students had protested the visit because of Greer s views
on transgendered women but were unsuccessful. Greer s position, stated Chi Chi, takes away the
personhood of trans people. The issue with this statement 1 is that the harm done is subjective,
and may be seen by others as merely irritating. Barnaby was next to argue in favour of no
platforming , suggesting the inversion of power dynamics will position some people above the
marginalized, and must therefore be challenged. His belief is that free speech does not consider
power relations. The last to speak on this side was Sisway. His main point was that by using no
platforming activists are seeking to change the agenda of universities in order to contest fascism
and racism at the root. Once again it is not established why activists should have an exclusive power
to decide what viewpoints can and cannot be seen by other students. The side against no
platforming began with Monica, and a conciliatory tone. Child pornography, she stated, was an
example of a subject unworthy of a platform. However, noplatforming fails to differentiate between
harm and discomfort. 2 The harm done is therefore subjective. Charlie then stated that no
platforming was counterproductive as it does not decrease harm because content continues to be
exposed through discourse. No platforming becomes a dangerous

Grief, Loss, And Loss

Grief, Loss, and Everything Josh Kos would Floss (this is not the actual title)
Grief and loss are some of the most defining characteristics of the human experience. Therefore,
dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are
many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a
healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and
narrative storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out
in all of us, just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook.
In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems.
Suppressing her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co
worker Robby, her sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in
suppressing memories of her husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an
awkward limbo between her past and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of
grief leads to paranoia for Amelia. As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a
different limbo between reality and inside her mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her
situation becomes progressively worse.
Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout
The Babadook. However, while trees and

negative affect. The measure contains sixty words or phrases denoting various feelings and
emotions (i.e. cheerful, frightened, irritable, c.) and asks the participant to Indicate to what extent
you have feel this way right now. . The responses are recorded on a five point Likert scale ranging

Famine In Russian Civil War
inevitable social unrest. The Russian civil war was accompanied by a famine that swept the nation
up until the end of the war. A number of ecological difficulties such as drought contributed to the
famine, but it was grain requisitioning imposed by the Bolshevik regime and the government s
decision to hide the true severity of the famine that made the it truly detrimental to Russia.
Struggling to deal with the civil war and the famine unfolding in Russia, the Bolsheviks imposed a
grain requisitioning policy called Prodrazvyorstka on the Russian people. The grain that was
confiscated would then be distributed in order to feed the starving cities, and perhaps more
importantly in the eyes of the Bolsheviks; feed the Red Army. Forced requisitioning was often used

In his academic journal on agricultural policies in civil war era Russia, research associate of the
Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University Kazuo Nakai touches on the destructive
effects of the Bolshevik requisitioning policies on Russia during the civil war. He says, The
process of grain requisition was crazy and the real amount of grain held by middle class peasants
was not taken into consideration. ... and it provoked anti Soviet feeling among the peasants,
especially against the policy of grain requisitioning (Nakai 49). Not only was grain requisitioning
sloppily advised and executed, it also created a strong feeling of resentment towards the Bolshevik
regime, only furthering the mindset that caused civil war to begin with. Anti Soviet feeling among
Russian peasants could only add fuel to the fire of the civil war, having detrimental effects on
Russia as the nation sunk deeper into war and desperation. In order for grain requisitioning to be
successful, Bolshevik officials had to confiscate grain from the Russian peasantry and then parcel
out the supplies to the armed forces and starving Russian citizens. The Bolshevik government was

The Mortality Rate Of Humans
People recognize that death is the terminal point in the life of a physical body. In a moment, a
person s memory, personality, and experiences all seem to disappear. It is foolish for people to
live a life unprepared for the inevitable where one s existence ceases to exist. In fact, the mortality
rate of humans is 100 percent. Perhaps some essential part of people survive deathand lives forever
beyond the grave. The truth can come from two choices speculation or revelation. Many people

Whether it s heaven or hell, one s soul may be judged or evaluated on where they will arrive in the
afterlife. The way a person has conducted themselves will influence their soul s destiny after death.
What survives after the death of the body? Prominent world religions view this part of afterlife
differently. For example, Christianity has dualistic conceptions. A non physical soul that separates
the body at death, but there are also contrasting views. For instance, many Christians believe that a
spiritual body resurrects after death. It can be physical and three dimensional. However, but that
spiritual body is distinct from a person s current physical body. Now, Buddhists do not believe that
a body contains a soul. However, they do believe a person s karma survives death, prior sensations,
perceptions, and consciousness transmit to another physical body. The moment death occurs, it sets
in motion of an immediate retribution for the consequences of these desires or actions. Then

Reflection For My Personal Assignment
My theme for my second final piece follows on from my last theme of colour. This piece also
expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to
form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and
pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing
and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces.
The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then
till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the
background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern
determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background
with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark
makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil
strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me
in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such
as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being
more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The
background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my
research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of
using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following
the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched
on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s
marks of his drawing overlap each other many times. Rembrandt focus on using his marks to create
form and tones, while Da Vinci s mark makings are more structured and technical due to his
engineering experience. Davinci s marks mainly arranged in a diagonal order. In addition to mark
making, I researched on drawing techniques used to drawing children with. From that

Medical Diagnosis Of Heart Failure
The sarcoplasmic reticulum is the major intracellular site for calcium release and storage in the
myocyte. In the heart failure, the movement of calcium ions in and out of the cell is no longer
effective. These changes in calcium handling lead to alterations in myocyte contraction and
relaxation, which will contribute to worsening diastolic dysfunction in heartfailure (Karch, 2013).
Medical Diagnosis of Heart Failure
The diagnostic methods in heart failure are directed toward establishing the cause of the disorder
and determining the extent of the dysfunction (Grossman Porth, 2014). The methods used in the
diagnosis of heart failure include risk factor assessment, history and physical examination,

Electrocardiography can be used to detect underlying disorders of cardiac rhythm, or conduction
abnormalities. Chest x rays provide information about the size and shape of the heart and
pulmonary vasculature and the presence of pulmonary edema (Grossman Porth, 2014).
Radionuclide ventriculography and cardiac angiography are recommended to detect CAD as the
underlying cause of heart failure. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) and cardiac
computed tomography (CCT) are used to document ejection fraction, ventricular preload, and
regional wall motion (Grossman Porth, 2014).
The monitoring methods include central venous pressure (CVP), pulmonary artery pressure
monitoring, thermodilution measurements of cardiac output, and intra arterial measurements of
blood pressure are used in the acute, life threatening episodes of heart failure (Grossman Porth,
2014). After a complete physical examination and history collection and by verifying the results of
laboratory studies, chest x ray, echocardiogram and CT scan, the diagnosis of heart failure is
formulated for the patient S.K.
Management of Heart Failure

heart failure and directed towards relieving the symptoms, improving the quality of life, and
reducing or eliminating the risk factors (Grossman Porth, 2014). There are

Analysis Of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha
Before her untimely death at the age of 31, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha was a promising innovator of
experimental film, slide projections, sculpture, audio recordings, performance art, and poetry. Her
work challenges assumptions about history, narrative, language, and in particular conceptions of
immigrants; through powerful and often dislocating ideological and grammatical in derogations of
cultural, geographic, and social positions, she recuperates an alternative sense of self and identity in
a postcolonial, feminist, racially marked world. Her experiments with the sense of displacement and
fragmentation mark an important stage in postmodernist, multicultural, and feminist writing. By

A View From the Bridge Essay
Eddie Carbone is an American Sicilian man working in Brooklyn. He works as a longshoreman:
carrying crates and goods from the ships. He is quite a large man. His job requires him to be strong
and a good worker. In other words he is very masculine. He is an ordinary man. He lives with his
wife and niece, whom he treats like a daughter, and like all good menshould do, he works every day
to provide them with enough money to survive on. Eddie is a man s man. He lives within a close
knit community of Sicilians and is a well respected member of society. Eddie sees himself as a
prime example of how a man should act and look.

Eddie holds an old fashioned, limited view of masculinity. His opinions of what it means to be
masculine involve fairly stereotypical features, such as strength and ability. Characteristics that
people generally associate with a male figure are strength, silent. The time that they play is set
in doesn t help to widen Eddie s view of masculinity. The area, Redhook, is described by the
lawyer Alfieri. But this is Redhook, not Sicily. This is the slum that faces the bay on the
seaward side of Brooklyn Bridge...the gullet of New York swallowing the tonnage of the world .
It accommodated some of the worst people of the time, and though there were laws the country
was controlled by gangsters. In those days, Al Capone, the greatest Carthaginian of all, was
learning his trade on these pavements, and Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a
machine gun on the corner of Union Street, two blocks away . This would maybe inspire Eddie to
act tough and strong. He understands that these gangsters are undeniably very masculine figures
and that may affect him. All the immigrants came to this area, that s why the community was so
close knit. It is also why it was so devastating to betray family or friends by reporting immigrants.
When Eddie warns Catherine not to say anything about the illegal immigrants coming to stay with
them he tells the story of a boy who reported his uncle. The whole neighbourhood was cryin . The
worst thing you could do was betray

To Kill A Mockingbird Reference Letter
I accept the honor and privileged of writing a reference letter for my son Murray Watson. I

From a young age Murray, maybe even as a Tiger Scout, set the goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.

Word of Life Bible Institute whose motto is Life is Ministry . Jeff Reese, also an Eagle Scout,
was Murray s Sunday School teacher. Scott and Jeff are friends and it was so great to have an
Eagle Scout reiterate Mr. Graham s teachings and keep Murray accountable at church as well.
Jamboree was another life changing experience for Murray. He really didn t know what to

apprehension, I was scared to death. I knew that he had great leaders but Murray was just so

Marilyn Monroe Pros And Cons
Norma Jeane Mortenson: Marilyn Monroe in the Making Marilyn Monroe is considered to be
one of the biggest movie goddesses, and prime sex symbols to be alive in her time. Yet, she also

was born June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California with the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson and
had endured a difficult childhood growing up. Despite living in an orphanage, and her mother
Gladys Baker in and out of her life, Monroe managed to out weight the cons with the pros (Porter).

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bananas
deforestation and unhealthy soil cause erosion, and the runoff causes frequent flooding and
damage from sedimentation. In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered
that 60 percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff
from coastal bananaplantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono
culture, where all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes
crops easy to manage, these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of
pest, fungi or disease, and will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to
pesticides. In order to prevent this from happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated
that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only
2.7 kilograms are used for the average European cereal crop (Cohen, 2009).
The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack
sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex
conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can
still get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver
via pores on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or
sterility, which he himself and many people he knows who work in banana

Pride And Prejudice And Mr Collins Proposal
In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, Mr Collins is shown as a comical man, who we as
readers are not expected to take seriously throughout the novel. Mr Darcy is a much deeper
character, and Austen uses him to portray divisions between classes. She uses their proposals firstly
to highlight the difference in the attractions the men have towards Elizabeth, but secondly to
emphasise the importance of social class within a marriageproposal. This is seen in the form she
writes in the content of the proposals(dialogue in Collins s proposal versus free indirect discourse
in Darcy s), and the structure of the proposals. The contrast between Mr Collins proposal and Mr
Darcy s proposal is highlighted by the proposals varying styles, which shows the reader the
emotions fuelling the proposals. Austen portrays Collins proposal as arrogant and rehearsed,
and this juxtaposes Darcy s proposal which is portrayed as much more authentic. Collins during
the proposal is described as having no feelings of diffidence (chap 19). Darcy, on the other hand,
is tenser, even though in the Regency period it was rare for a woman of Elizabeth s status to
ever turn down a man of his eligibility. Darcy s proposal is said, in an agitated manner . This shows
that Darcy is expressing his feelings and is agitated because he is not sure they are reciprocated.
Collins proposal is overly rehearsed, for example, he lists his reasons for wanting to marry
Elizabeth, My reasons for marrying are,

Anatolian communities began to develop agriculture in the 8th century B.C. The Anatolians

Child Care Center Has Work On Their Fine Motor Skills
Children in the child care center also work on their fine motor skills. I observed how they often

they can show their children how to use the correct kitchen utensils or come up with creative

Before watching the videos on crystal meth I was very uneducated when it came to the drug. After

On the Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah describes crystal meth as being the most dangerous drug in
America and the biggest problem officers face concerning drugs. She also says crystal meth is not
popular with a particular group of people. Rather, it crosses every group. Oprah has a few guests

not sleep at all. Megan s mother happened to see Chantel on the Oprah show and realized that her
daughter was in the same boat as Chantel. Megan s mother finally found her and asked Megan to
watch the Oprah Show regarding Chantel. After viewing the Chantel s story, Megan agreed to
go to rehab where she ironically met Chantel. Megan told Chantel that she saw her show on
Oprah, and Chantel was the reason Megan is at rehab. The two became very close while in rehab.
Megan left rehab after one hundred and twenty two days, and is still clean. Megan said she still
has the urge to use and it is very hard for her to stop partying.
Michelle is Oprah s next guest who was a Bible study teacher and married for fourteen years with

every once in a while. However she took it and was instantly hooked and began to take crystal

The Birth Story Of Jesus And Interpreting It Today
The concept of a virginal birth could seem possible or probable with the advancement of modern
technology allowing women who wish to conceive a child the option of undergoing In Vitro
Fertilization to have a child without a male partner or need for sexual intercourse today. However,
it is perplexing how Mary, the mother of Jesus, miraculously conceived and bore a child as a
virgin. On the surface it may seem that it can simply be explained as a one time, divine
intervention by God, yet the details surrounding how this phenomenon occurred becomes much
more complex after delving into the accounts of this event in the books of Matthew and Luke.
There are many issues surrounding who and what the virgin Mary was in regards to her origins
and the term virgin used to describe her. Also, how this event manifested, the role Joseph played in
this story, are important for unraveling the birth story of Jesus and interpreting it today. I believe
that it is reasonable to assume that Jesus was conceived miraculously or supernaturally by a virgin
female named Mary, and was naturally born in this world. To have a better understanding of the
virginal conception it is important to have background information on the main characters involved,
Mary and Joseph. The Proto Gospel, an apostolic writing by Jesus half brother James, offers an
omniscient perspective of Mary s origin and upbringing through the birth of Jesus. This gives an
important background for understanding the Matthew and

Walkerton Water System Case Study
The Walkerton water system was supplied by three groundwater wells: wells 5, 6, and 7.
Contamination into the drinking water supply was through Well 5. Well 5 was a shallow well,
and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn
from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the
surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock
(O Connor, 2002, pp.166).
The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two
standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated
that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a greater risk
of bacterial contamination in dead ends, because water does not adequately circulate in them and
may become stagnant (O Connor, 2002, pp.57). The water system had a reserve capacity of 20
hours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When talking about smoking one phrase always pops up in a person s mind, Smoking Kills .
Considered as one of the biggest public health disasters in the world smoking is a very
controversial topic in modern society. As of recent times due to the link smoking has with serious
health issues, many advertisement have been made to make people aware of the dangers. In the

may also have no effect due to the fact that many smokers already realize the effect that the habit
has on their body. To them it is already too late to stop because they are addicted or unconcern
with the situation. These people consider ads of this context to be an attack on their life
preferences, thus causing them to avoid ads of this context. In doing so they miss the main point of

The Story Of A Woman Essay
A woman is standing in her kitchen, cooking dinner for her husband and her three children. She
has many things on her mind other than food: her children, her health, her life. During her
distraction, the bread that she had put in the oven to toast begins to burn and it smells of smoke
in the kitchen. She desperately pulls the pan out of the oven and begins to fan the bread, hoping
that her husband in the living room does not smell it. Her husband enters the kitchen, smells the
remnants of the smoke, and walks slowly over to her. She uses her body to shield the seared
bread while realizing that the relief she just felt is gone. Her husband asks what happened and
she opens her mouth to answer...when he smacks her across the face. Can you ever do anything
right?! he yells. The children glance in through the open door, then scatter when they see their

The Pros And Cons Of Wild Horse Roundups
Imagine you are on a mountain and you turn around a notice a herd of wild horses grazing
happily, then all of a sudden you hear a low buzz in the distance. You notice that the wild horses

other people argue that roundups kill many horses, horses are forced to separate from their herds

The Beauty Of Art And Human Expression
What is art? As a child most of us are taught to believe that anything can be art. That the beauty of
art and human expression is in the eye of the beholder. As we grow up we begin to understand
that art is more than a bunch of cluttered finger painted fingerprint Thanksgiving turkeys hanging
on the fridge or macaroni picture frames. We begin to understand that art in our native cultures
has many functions. Art serves as an expressive outlet for individuals to use as means to convey
symbolism often times religious, as means of identity and solidarity for groups, as educational
tools, and as a means of connecting with the supernatural. Art is a stimulation of any of the five
senses with a reasonable amount of trade or talent required. One of the first things I noticed
when I started my first semester here at BYU Idaho this fall was Mormons really love art . Walk
down the halls of any building here on campus and go no farther than five feet and you will find
some type of art on display. The amount of art we have here at Brigham Young University

Symbolic art is significant to BYU Idaho culture because of the religious affiliation and ties the
university has to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and to LDS culture. Brigham

the self of a narcissistic individual is attacked by others, violence may result. Hence, why

This might explain why high rates of narcissistic personality styles were found in women arrested
for intimidate partner violence (Simmons, Lehmann, Cobb, Fowler, 2005).
Psychological abuse Psychological abuse should not be overlooked when one looks at intimidate
partner violence. Narcissism often has negative consequences, such as pain and suffering, in
romantic partners, due to mainly antagonistic and intrusive behaviours (Lamkin, Campbell,

more socially extraverted than their partner when having grandiose narcissism (Campbell, Foster,

The Ascent Of Mount Ventoux Summary
The Renaissance was a cultural, economic, and political movement that emerged in Italy in the
fifteenth century. The Renaissance marked the leap from the Medieval era to the Modern Age and
brought with it a great cultural transformation, not only of the arts, but also of the sciences, letters
and forms of thought. Francesco Petrarch and Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola were two Renaissance
men who changed the ideals and ways of seeing the world that emerged during the Medieval Age.
In the letter The Ascent of Mount Ventoux , Petrarch describes his human experience when he
climbed Mount Ventoux with his brother and his two servants. The reason why Petrarch wanted
to achieve this goal was for the simple fact of living a personal experience. Petrarch declared that
my only motive was the wish to see what so great an elevation had to offer. This statement allows

In medieval thought, everything revolved around god and the church, where personal motives had
no purpose if they had no relationship with any divine being. Petrarch s personal experience had
no purpose in glorifying or seeking God, but rather in discovering truth and happiness on his own.
This new way of thinking was considered part of the Renaissance because Petrarch uses reason as a
source of knowledge, and seeks the truth through personal reflection and research.
On the other hand, Giovanni had to analyze and question a concept different from Petrarch. For
Giovanni, the idea of Abdala the Sarraceno and Hermes Trismegisto that man is an intermediary
between creatures and interpreter of nature by sense, reason and intelligence, are not enough to
understand the condition of human nature. In the Oration on the Dignity of Man written in 1486,
Giovanni explains to us why man is the most fortunate and prestigious being in the world, and why
the human being is an intermediary between animals and angels

Marxism In The Handmaids Tale
Religion Magnifies Males Mindsets
Religions influence followers to put faith as their first priority encouraging them to devote their
lives to God. Unfortunately, this complete control of their lives creates ideal followers without
individuality or uniqueness, which renders one follower as powerless. For example,
monotheocracies have control over two major societal aspects: religion and the government.
Moreover, they rule their people through religion and governmental policies allowing oppression,
similar to how Iran influences their people through religious holy wars (jihads) and veils for
women (hijabs). A Marxist view of Iran critiques religion s impact on the oppressed recognizing
and reacting to their suffering. In The Handmaid s Tale, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

62) since a believer earns eternal life. Conversely, this commodity has a grave, evil, and
important purpose: to make people work for evil with a grave knowledge of who is in charge. In
other words, religious followers do everything, including adverse tasks, without knowing why.
Likewise, this faith in God includes his Eyes and the watching they do on His behalf (Atwood
193). Despite an inhuman privacy loss, women progress with their lives knowing the Eyes serve
religious and grievous governmental purposes. Furthermore, a praying religious ceremony,
Prayvaganza, occurs when nuns become subordinate Handmaids, (Atwood 220) despite the nuns
previous religious lives. A Handmaid s oppressed life is celebrated via religion to ensure complete
cooperation with the monotheocracy (through preachers exploiting religion) despite separating

A Clockwork Orange Comparison
A Clockwork Orange is the film adaptation of Anthony Burgess famous novel of the same name,
which was released in 1962, and was directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film narrates the life of the
violent and manipulative protagonist, Alex DeLarge, and his friends. Alex and his friends, Pete,
Georgie, and Dim, commit horrific, demeaning acts of violence, including rape and destruction of
property, simply for the thrill. Once their regular activities become a bore to them, Alexs friends
suggest participating in even worse acts, which completely outrages Alex at the apparent threat
to his power. After Alex reasserts his dominance over his group of criminals with the use of his
words, he decides to prove his dominance with a physical act. This results in Alex murdering a
woman, who was known simply as the Cat Lady, which lands him a 14 year prison sentence, and
is now referred as Prisoner #655321. Even in prison, however, Alex is still a manipulative,... Show

Odysseus Archetype Analysis
There was a man who was willing to risk his whole life through many difficult obstacles just to
return to his family and home. The man who is willing to risk his whole life just to return home, a
mogul, and a hard worker is Odysseus. During this long heroic journey, Odysseus travels for a long
time and faces many common archetypes including monsters and temptresses. One major archetype

place during the Greek era where they idolized Xenia because they thought it was respectful to
take care of their house guests. The Greeks admired Xenia because the Greek gods sometimes
dressed up as paupers to visit people. Furthermore, the Greeks had many fears and theories about
the world, so they believed everything revolved around the gods. Throughout the Odyssey, many
of the archetypes related to Greek culture such as Hero s journey, monsters, and temptresses. The
tasks it takes to be a hero are saving, leading, and conquering. In the Odyssey, Odysseus makes
sure that no one taste the Lotus (pg.564) in order for his men to get home. Not only was that, but
Odysseus s journey home another example of the Hero archetype. During the Odyssey, the tale of
Odysseus and his decade of wandering as he tries to return home (from Monster Archetypes in the

Indoor Air Quality And Environmental Health Essay
Indoor Air Quality and Environmental Health Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers only to the quality
of the ambient air in an interior environment. On average, people spend well over half of their
time inside, and research has shown that indoor air in buildings can be more contaminated than
outdoor air. The majority of people that work in non industrial buildings such as offices, schools,
and hospitals are exposed daily to poor IAQ. Indoor air pollution (IAP) continually ranks among
the top five environmental risks to public health. Therefore, IAP is a critical factor of the safety
and well being of the population. This paper explores IAP in context, the health risks related to
poor air quality, the burden of disease from household air pollution, guidelines for environmental
infection control in healthcare facilities, and how to improve IAP. Indoor Environmental Quality
Indoor environmental quality (IEQ), comprises the quality of a building s environment concerning
the wellbeing and health of those who occupy the space. Many factors contribute to the IEQ such
as air quality, lighting, and damp conditions. People usually experience symptoms or health
conditions from exposures to contaminants while they are indoor. One of the reasons why IEQ is a
primary concern is because some people that experience symptoms while indoors usually get better
when they are not in the building. Indoor environments are incredibly complex, and building
occupants may be exposed to a variety of

sociocultural approach deeps on the social issues and how the language effects on the social, the

  • 7. The Importance Of Free Speech Who are the guardians of free speech? Is it our elected members of parliament in Ottawa? Is it our university student activists? The answer may surprise you. The University of Oxford s Dahrendorf Programme hosted a debate to discuss whether or not the practice of noplatforming is a legitimate tool of activism. While those in favour were passionate in their defence of the practice, they failed to establish its legitimacy. The question of who gives the activists a mandate to control the information being presented to the student body was largely ignored. Those in favour argued that free speech is hypothetical and the marginalized must be protected. Chi Chi evoked John Stewart Mill s harm principle, in that the harm done by allowing people with a hateful or bigoted message justifies no platforming. The example she gave was Germaine Greer s 2015 visit to Cardiff University. Students had protested the visit because of Greer s views on transgendered women but were unsuccessful. Greer s position, stated Chi Chi, takes away the personhood of trans people. The issue with this statement 1 is that the harm done is subjective, and may be seen by others as merely irritating. Barnaby was next to argue in favour of no platforming , suggesting the inversion of power dynamics will position some people above the marginalized, and must therefore be challenged. His belief is that free speech does not consider power relations. The last to speak on this side was Sisway. His main point was that by using no platforming activists are seeking to change the agenda of universities in order to contest fascism and racism at the root. Once again it is not established why activists should have an exclusive power to decide what viewpoints can and cannot be seen by other students. The side against no platforming began with Monica, and a conciliatory tone. Child pornography, she stated, was an example of a subject unworthy of a platform. However, noplatforming fails to differentiate between harm and discomfort. 2 The harm done is therefore subjective. Charlie then stated that no platforming was counterproductive as it does not decrease harm because content continues to be exposed through discourse. No platforming becomes a dangerous ... • 8. Grief, Loss, And Loss Jaehun Lee D Block, Film Studies 10/16/16 Grief, Loss, and Everything Josh Kos would Floss (this is not the actual title) Grief and loss are some of the most defining characteristics of the human experience. Therefore, dealing with grief and loss is one of the most important things humans must learn. While there are many approaches, Jennifer Kent uses her film The Babadook to suggest that suppression is not a healthy way to deal with grief. By thoughtfully planning the mise en scene, soundtrack, and narrative storytelling, Kent teaches viewers that suppression causes the inner monster to come out in all of us, just as it did to Amelia in The Babadook. In The Babadook, suppression of grief is at the root of all of Amelia s personal problems. Suppressing her grief resulted in her becoming isolated from everyone around her, from her co worker Robby, her sister Claire, to even her son Sam. Because she was so wrapped up in suppressing memories of her husband, Amelia lost touch with the living world, and is left in an awkward limbo between her past and her present. Once the Babadook is unleashed, suppression of grief leads to paranoia for Amelia. As she continues to have visions, Amelia is trapped in a different limbo between reality and inside her mind, and as she continues to suppress her grief, her situation becomes progressively worse. Amelia s house and the tree across the street from Amelia s house are important motifs throughout The Babadook. However, while trees and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Reflection For My Personal Assignment My theme for my second final piece follows on from my last theme of colour. This piece also expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces. The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s marks of his drawing overlap each other many times. Rembrandt focus on using his marks to create form and tones, while Da Vinci s mark makings are more structured and technical due to his engineering experience. Davinci s marks mainly arranged in a diagonal order. In addition to mark making, I researched on drawing techniques used to drawing children with. From that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered that 60 percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff from coastal bananaplantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono culture, where all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes crops easy to manage, these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of pest, fungi or disease, and will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to pesticides. In order to prevent this from happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only 2.7 kilograms are used for the average European cereal crop (Cohen, 2009). The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can still get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver via pores on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or sterility, which he himself and many people he knows who work in banana ... Pride And Prejudice And Mr Collins Proposal In Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, Mr Collins is shown as a comical man, who we as readers are not expected to take seriously throughout the novel. Mr Darcy is a much deeper character, and Austen uses him to portray divisions between classes. She uses their proposals firstly to highlight the difference in the attractions the men have towards Elizabeth, but secondly to emphasise the importance of social class within a marriageproposal. This is seen in the form she writes in the content of the proposals(dialogue in Collins s proposal versus free indirect discourse in Darcy s), and the structure of the proposals. The contrast between Mr Collins proposal and Mr Darcy s proposal is highlighted by the proposals varying styles, which shows the reader the emotions fuelling the proposals. Austen portrays Collins proposal as arrogant and rehearsed, and this juxtaposes Darcy s proposal which is portrayed as much more authentic. Collins during the proposal is described as having no feelings of diffidence (chap 19). Darcy, on the other hand, is tenser, even though in the Regency period it was rare for a woman of Elizabeth s status to ever turn down a man of his eligibility. Darcy s proposal is said, in an agitated manner . This shows that Darcy is expressing his feelings and is agitated because he is not sure they are reciprocated. However, it is perplexing how Mary, the mother of Jesus, miraculously conceived and bore a child as a virgin. On the surface it may seem that it can simply be explained as a one time, divine intervention by God, yet the details surrounding how this phenomenon occurred becomes much more complex after delving into the accounts of this event in the books of Matthew and Luke. There are many issues surrounding who and what the virgin Mary was in regards to her origins and the term virgin used to describe her. Also, how this event manifested, the role Joseph played in this story, are important for unraveling the birth story of Jesus and interpreting it today. I believe that it is reasonable to assume that Jesus was conceived miraculously or supernaturally by a virgin female named Mary, and was naturally born in this world. To have a better understanding of the virginal conception it is important to have background information on the main characters involved, Mary and Joseph. The Proto Gospel, an apostolic writing by Jesus half brother James, offers an omniscient perspective of Mary s origin and upbringing through the birth of Jesus. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166). The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. Petrarch s personal experience had no purpose in glorifying or seeking God, but rather in discovering truth and happiness on his own. This new way of thinking was considered part of the Renaissance because Petrarch uses reason as a source of knowledge, and seeks the truth through personal reflection and research.
