• Objective marker for both diagnosis and prognosis of heart failure
• NT-proBNP is critical to monitoring the effectiveness of new pioneering drug
(ARNi), which decreases mortality rates by 30% - the first major development in
heart failure treatment in years
• NT-proBNP can help to distinguish cardiac causes from non-cardiac causes, such
as shortness of breath and other symptoms
• BNP levels should not be measured while patients are receiving recombinant
infusions of BNP (eg, nesiritide).However, NT-pro BNP levels are not affected by
nesiritide
