Siemens offers advanced ultra-supercritical coal-fired steam power plants through their SSP5-6000 and SSP6-6000 reference plant series. These plants achieve net efficiencies of around 46% and CO2 emissions well below 800g/kWh. Siemens is currently constructing an 800MW SSP5-6000 plant in Germany that utilizes steam parameters of 280bar/600°C. The paper discusses innovations in plant design and economics, as well as options for retrofitting carbon capture capabilities to ensure compliance with future regulations.
