ABSTRACT-
The kind of novel herbal formulations such as liposomes, phytosomes,
microsphere ,and ethosomes has been reported using proactive and plant
selections. The novel formulations are described to have remarkable

and nutraceuticals, to incorporate standardized plant extracts or
water-soluble phytoconstituents into phospholipids
to produce lipid-compatible molecular complexes.

INTRODUCTION-
.Necessity of NDDS in herbal drug-
Novel Drug delivery System (NDDS) refers to the approaches, formulations,
technologies, and systems for transporting a pharmaceutical compound in the
body as needed to safely achieve its desired therapeutic effects.
If the novel drug delivery technology is applied in herbal medicine, it may help in
increasing the efficacy and reducing the side effects of various herbal compounds
and herbs.
This is the basic idea behind incorporating novel method of drug delivery in herbal
medicines.

Different types of novel herbal formulation currently available
in the market-
. Liposomes, phytosomes, niosomes these are microparticulate or colloidal
carriers, usually 0.05–5.0 μm in diameter which forms , spontaneously
when certain lipids are hydrated in aqueous media. The liposomes are
spherical particles that encapsulate a fraction of the solvent, in which they
freely pass around or float into their interior.

.Phytosomes –
Most of the bioactive constituents of phytomedicines are flavonoids, which are
poorly bioavailable when taken orally.
Water-soluble phytoconstituent molecules (mainly polyphenols) can be converted
into lipid-compatible molecular complexes, which are called phytosomes.

Niosomes-
Niosomes are vesicles formed from non ionic surfactants of the
alkyl or di alkyl polyglycerol ether class and cholesterol. niosomes have properties as
potential drug carriers similar to liposomes. Niosomes are different from liposomes
in that they offer certain advantages over liposomes.

HERBAL EXCIPIENT-
.Introduction of excipient-
Excipients are any component other than the active substance(s) intentionally added
to formulation of a dosage form. The herbal excipients which are used in
conventional dosage forms as well as novel drug delivery systems.

Advantages of herbal excipients-
Natural excipients are biocompatibility, economic, easily
available, less toxic, have soothing action and non-irritant,
safe and biodegradable can be chemically modified.

Disadvantages of herbal excipients-
They are microbial contamination, yield and
chemical composition of natural excipients vary in
different conditions.

Application of herbal excipients-
. Specialty excipients are used to produce dosage forms that
can reduce the number of doses.
. By modifying the rate of drug release or improve drug delivery.
. By targeting drug release in a specific region in the gastrointestinal
tract where drug absorption is the highest

Application Of Novel Herbal Drug Delivery system
• DIABETES-
Diabetes mellitus has been emerged as an epidemic worldwide in the
last few decades and proclaimed as fifth cause of death in most
developed countries.
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic hyperglycemic condition which is
described as a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies characterised
by improper carbohydrate fat and protein metabolism

Cardiovascular Disorder-
Cardiovascular disease are class of disease that involve
the heart or blood vessels.
Cardiovascular disease included coronary artery disease such
as angina myocardial infraction ,heart failure, heart muscle disease.

Targeted herbal drug delivery system-
Plant product have been used since in ancient times for
various purpose. NDDS is also beneficial in comparison to
convential methods for cancer treatment. NDDS include various
novel carriers like liposomes, phytosomes, niosomes etc.
It has modified the herbal drugs to increase their reduce toxicity,
therapeutic value, improve solubility, bioavailability and increase
patient compliance.

CONCLUSION-
In this article we overview Novel Herbal medications have been widely employed all over
the since ancient times and have been acknowledged by doctors and patients for their
better therapeutic value as they cause fewer adverse effects as compared with modern
medications. NDDS not only reduce the repeated administration to overcome
noncompliance, but also help to increase the therapeutic value by reducing toxicity and
increasing the bioavailability.

  • 6. ABSTRACT- The kind of novel herbal formulations such as liposomes, phytosomes, microsphere ,and ethosomes has been reported using proactive and plant selections. If the novel drug delivery technology is applied in herbal medicine, it may help in increasing the efficacy and reducing the side effects of various herbal compounds and herbs. This is the basic idea behind incorporating novel method of drug delivery in herbal medicines. 7

Liposomes, phytosomes, niosomes these are microparticulate or colloidal carriers, usually 0.05–5.0 μm in diameter which forms , spontaneously when certain lipids are hydrated in aqueous media.   • 16. .Phytosomes – Most of the bioactive constituents of phytomedicines are flavonoids, which are poorly bioavailable when taken orally. Water-soluble phytoconstituent molecules (mainly polyphenols) can be converted into lipid-compatible molecular complexes, which are called phytosomes. 16

Application Of Novel Herbal Drug Delivery system • DIABETES- Diabetes mellitus has been emerged as an epidemic worldwide in the last few decades and proclaimed as fifth cause of death in most developed countries. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic hyperglycemic condition which is described as a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies characterised by improper carbohydrate fat and protein metabolism 25
  • 26. Cardiovascular Disorder- Cardiovascular disease are class of disease that involve the heart or blood vessels. Cardiovascular disease included coronary artery disease such as angina myocardial infraction ,heart failure, heart muscle disease. 26
  • 27. Targeted herbal drug delivery system- Plant product have been used since in ancient times for various purpose. NDDS is also beneficial in comparison to convential methods for cancer treatment. NDDS include various novel carriers like liposomes, phytosomes, niosomes etc. It has modified the herbal drugs to increase their reduce toxicity, therapeutic value, improve solubility, bioavailability and increase patient compliance. 27

CONCLUSION- In this article we overview Novel Herbal medications have been widely employed all over the since ancient times and have been acknowledged by doctors and patients for their better therapeutic value as they cause fewer adverse effects as compared with modern medications. NDDS not only reduce the repeated administration to overcome noncompliance, but also help to increase the therapeutic value by reducing toxicity and increasing the bioavailability. 28
