This document discusses ways to optimize drive systems for efficiency using frequency inverters and motors from NORD Drivesystems. It describes how frequency inverters can increase total system efficiency compared to operating motors at constant speed. Using an inverter introduces some losses of around 5% but it also allows optimizing the motor's magnetic field to increase part-load efficiency. The document also discusses using regenerative feedback units to recover energy from deceleration and send it back to the mains, further improving efficiency. DC coupling of inverter outputs and intelligent control strategies are presented as additional ways to optimize energy usage across multiple drives.
