About Nondestructive Testing


Nondestructive testing involves putting an item or
process under critical conditions without causing
damage. Because NDT does not require the item or
process to break, it can provide a wealth of
information that destructive testing cannot simply by
the virtue that NDT does not result in a necessity for
reconstruction or other costly repairs. NDT requires
that all tests be executed to the standards put forth
by the American Society for Testing and Materials to
ensure results are consistent and repeatable. Some
techniques employed in NDT include ultrasonic, dye
penetrant, and eddy-current testing.
