25% is our right: examining SC/ST exclusion through budgets in school educationJayshree Mangubhai
This document examines exclusion of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children from school education in India through an analysis of budgets and policy implementation. It notes that while access to education for SC/ST children has improved over time, they continue to have lower literacy and enrollment rates compared to other groups. SC/ST children also have higher dropout rates and lower educational achievement. Factors contributing to these disparities include poverty within these communities as well as discrimination based on caste and gender. The document reviews government commitments to improving SC/ST education through plans and policies, and argues that an analysis of education budgets is needed to understand how these commitments are implemented in practice and whether budget allocations adequately address the specific needs of SC/ST children
All children have the fundamental right to education, but millions of them are never enrolled in a school or are dropped out for varied reasons, especially in families where the parents are illiterate themselves, and are facing an acute shortage of resources daily. The probability of those children working at reputable organizations and pursuing their dreams is minimal, and they often never get a chance to grow and prosper.
This document examines exclusion of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children in school education through an analysis of budgets in India, Bihar, and Jharkhand. It notes that while access to education for SC/ST children has improved, they continue to have lower enrollment rates at higher levels of school, higher dropout rates, and lower educational achievement compared to other groups. Two key factors contributing to these disparities are poverty and discrimination based on caste and gender. The document will analyze central and state government budgets to assess how commitments to ensure the educational development of SC/ST children are implemented through education schemes and spending.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.

The autobiography of Mr. K.P. Singh, Chairman, DLF Group brings to life, the
inspiring story of a man who has contributed to shaping the urban landscape of

5. HEALTH
Bringing Good Health Right to the Doorstep
Access to healthcare services through Primary Health Centres
T
he biggest challenge in healthcare
service delivery today is not lack of
facilities but access. DLF Foundation
supports the rural underprivileged
communities through five PHCs — Nawada
Fatehpur, Hayatpur, Sakatpur, Shikopur in
Haryana and Mohali, SAS Nagar in Punjab.
Combined, they cover a population of
1.8 lakh approximately. The centres provide
free medical consultancy, diagnostics,
health checkups, and subsidised
medicines, with the help of specialised
doctors, gynaecologists, paramedical staff
and lab assistants.

D
ccess to education is one of the major areas
of concern in rural India. To address this,
DLF Foundation is running over 30 village-based
schools for the underprivileged with special
focus on the girl child in rural underserved areas
of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. In this
regard a sum of Rs. 50 crores has been spent by DLF
Foundation in partnership with Bharti Foundation for
operationalisation of these schools. The curriculum
and teaching-learning processes are designed to help
children explore, question, reason, communicate and
acquire culture roots while staying connected with
society. Nearly 12,000 children have been supported
so far. In addition, four schools supported by the DLF
Foundation for slum dwellers have benefitted about
1,200 students.
LF Rural Learning Excellence Centres have been
set up in 22 villages of Haryana. They work closely
with government schools, community teachers and
village Panchayats. These centres operate through
government schools and focus on strengthening
students’ basic education in English, Arithmetic and
Hindi. Simultaneously, they work on developing
holistic skills by combining learning with fun. During
the year over 5,500 students benefitted from the
programme.

Energy Efficiency and Green Construction
Technologies get a Boost at DLF
I
nnovation, R&D and environmental sustainability
are not just buzzwords or jargon at DLF. Through
a number of environment friendly construction
technologies used in projects, it has succeeded in
recycling waste heat for air conditioning; treating
domestic waste water and using it in cooling towers;
making use of rainwater harvesting; and replacing
conventional cooling towers with adiabatic coolers.
Each of these efforts have contributed in bringing
about greater environmental conservation. Increased
use of solar energy sources also contributes to saving
conventional energy.
Adding to the Green Cover
with Tree Plantation
T
he town planners and developers at the DLF
properties take their job of providing green cover
to the residents seriously. The landscaping and
greening of the area around the development projects
continues to get due attention all through the year.
Towards this end, DLF Foundation partnered with “I am
Gurgaon”, a social organisation in the “Million Tree”
campaign for greening the area around BP III, and GH
sites around Sikanderpur, in Gurgaon. According to
officials behind the project, “care is taken to find the
