This document summarizes a student project called NewsMine that implements a user preferences-based news filtering and case study feature. The key features are: 1) Allowing users to define their own news sources and preferences to personalize the news retrieved. 2) Tracking both explicit user ratings via a "Like" button and implicit ratings by recording reading habits. 3) Integrating social networking via Facebook and Twitter to share and comment on news. 4) Providing a case study feature that shows different sources' reporting on a news item and related social media discussions.

6. User Preferences based Filtering Tags – Each news assigned with keyword tags which define it. Explicit Rating – A “Like” button which would help the system know what type of News concerns the user. Implicit Rating – Keeping a record of what the user reads.

7. Case Study News Details – Once the user clicks the Headline. What the different sources reporting. Possibilities – News timeline. What the people talking about the news on Facebook / Twitter. Images from different sources. (Idea still under development.)
