Fedora 14 (x86_64) operating system and Xilinx ISE Design Suite v13.2 were used with a valid license for the Xilinx 10G MAC. 1G and 10G Ethernet cables were verified. A Xilinx programming cable is required to initially program the board, after which configuration over PCIe can be used, and for some projects an RS232 null modem cable is needed to interact with the MicroBlaze processor.

The recent years have seen a rapid diffusion of deep learning algorithms as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and as a consequence, an intensification of industrial and academic research focused on optimizing their implementation. Different computing architectures have been explored, and among all of them, FPGAs seem to be a very attractive choice, since they can deliver sustained performance with high power efficiency, as CNNs can be directly mapped onto hardware, and still offer flexibility thanks to their programmability.
In this paper, we present an end-to-end framework to implement CNNs using a dataflow acceleration methodology. The resulting spatial accelerator can be scaled in size if enough resources are available and can exploit both intra- and inter- layers parallelism. We integrate the proposed framework with the deep learning engine Caffe, meaning that we are able to generate the accelerator starting from a Caffe model. We also provide cloud integration of such framework, enabling users to synthesize and deploy the accelerator on the Amazon F1 instances.Chiplets in Data Centers

Semi dynamics high bandwidth vector capable RISC-V cores
SemiDynamics introduced two new RISC-V cores, AVISPADO 220 and ATREVIDO 220, both supporting the upcoming RISC-V Vector spec version 1.0. AVISPADO 220 is an in-order core with a technique called "Gazzillion Misses" that allows a high number of outstanding memory requests. ATREVIDO 220 is an out-of-order core also utilizing Gazzillion Misses. SemiDynamics also provides a customizable RISC-V Vector Processing Unit that implements the vector spec and can be integrated with the cores. Both cores and the vector unit are available for licensing.

Pipelining allows RISC processors to process multiple instructions simultaneously for improved efficiency compared to CISC which executes instructions sequentially.

Embedded Recipes 2018 - SoC+FPGA update in 2018 - Marek Vasut
SoC+FPGA solutions are vital part of the embedded ecosystem and 2018 brought many improvements to their upstream support.
At the beginning, Marek explains what SoC and FPGA systems are and how their combination on a single piece of silicon can be useful.
This is followed by multiple important news from U-Boot and Linux upstream. On the Intel side, Marek covers the newly supported Arria10/Stratix10 in upstream U-Boot as there are considerable differences from the previous generation of SoCFPGA. This is followed by a brief look at the constantly improving support for those SoCs in mainline Linux and their real-world usability with LTS and CIP trees.
On the Xilinx side, U-Boot can now completely replace proprietary boot components on ZynqMP and Marek explains how to make this change and what the pros and cons are. While mainline Linux support for Zynq and ZynqMP is improving too, there are still many limitations preventing pure mainline Linux from being used in real-world systems. Marek points out those limitations as well as ways to deal with them. Concluding the Xilinx part of the talk is the Lima open-source Mali4xx GPU driver, which allows replacing the proprietary userspace blob controlling the GPU. The current state of the driver as well as how to get it operational on ZynqMP is explained in this talk.
Finally, important security fixes mitigating recently discovered hardware problems are now available in U-Boot, yet enabling those is not a simple matter of flipping a Kconfig option, but instead requires careful analysis of the entire system. Marek points out which software components need to be checked and outlines a fix for those before the security problems can be considered addressed.

Using IO Visor to Secure Microservices Running on CloudFoundry [OpenStack Sum...
As microservices grow, traditional firewall rules based on network ACLs are no longer scalable and fall short of providing fine-grained enforcement. Group Based Policy (GBP) is a flexible policy language that allows users to specify policy enforcement based on intent, independent of network infrastructure and IP addressing. Using micro-segmented virtual domains, administrators can define policies at a centralized location and use IO Visor technology for distributed enforcement. This provides infrastructure independent rules, template-based policy definitions, and scale-out policy enforcement for a solution that secures and scales with microservices. This session will be presented by members of the IO Visor community and will cover how IO Visor technology can be used to define and enforce GBP. The discussion will also cover using GBP for cloud foundry application spaces where microservices are deployed and need scalable, efficient security policies.

Isn’t it Ironic that a Redfish is software defining you

Semi dynamics high bandwidth vector capable RISC-V cores
SemiDynamics introduced two new RISC-V cores, AVISPADO 220 and ATREVIDO 220, both supporting the upcoming RISC-V Vector spec version 1.0. AVISPADO 220 is an in-order core with a technique called "Gazzillion Misses" that allows a high number of outstanding memory requests. ATREVIDO 220 is an out-of-order core also utilizing Gazzillion Misses. SemiDynamics also provides a customizable RISC-V Vector Processing Unit that implements the vector spec and can be integrated with the cores. Both cores and the vector unit are available for licensing.

Hard ip based SoC design

ITFT_Risc
This document provides an overview of CISC and RISC architectures. CISC uses complex instructions that perform multiple low-level operations in one instruction, taking multiple clock cycles to execute. It has few general purpose registers. RISC uses simpler instructions that are executed in one clock cycle. It has many general purpose registers and only load and store instructions can access memory directly. Pipelining allows RISC processors to process multiple instructions simultaneously for improved efficiency compared to CISC which executes instructions sequentially.

Embedded Recipes 2018 - SoC+FPGA update in 2018 - Marek Vasut
SoC+FPGA solutions are vital part of the embedded ecosystem and 2018 brought many improvements to their upstream support.
At the beginning, Marek explains what SoC and FPGA systems are and how their combination on a single piece of silicon can be useful.
This is followed by multiple important news from U-Boot and Linux upstream. On the Intel side, Marek covers the newly supported Arria10/Stratix10 in upstream U-Boot as there are considerable differences from the previous generation of SoCFPGA. This is followed by a brief look at the constantly improving support for those SoCs in mainline Linux and their real-world usability with LTS and CIP trees.
On the Xilinx side, U-Boot can now completely replace proprietary boot components on ZynqMP and Marek explains how to make this change and what the pros and cons are. While mainline Linux support for Zynq and ZynqMP is improving too, there are still many limitations preventing pure mainline Linux from being used in real-world systems. Marek points out those limitations as well as ways to deal with them. Concluding the Xilinx part of the talk is the Lima open-source Mali4xx GPU driver, which allows replacing the proprietary userspace blob controlling the GPU. The current state of the driver as well as how to get it operational on ZynqMP is explained in this talk.
Finally, important security fixes mitigating recently discovered hardware problems are now available in U-Boot, yet enabling those is not a simple matter of flipping a Kconfig option, but instead requires careful analysis of the entire system. Marek points out which software components need to be checked and outlines a fix for those before the security problems can be considered addressed.

Using IO Visor to Secure Microservices Running on CloudFoundry [OpenStack Sum...
As microservices grow, traditional firewall rules based on network ACLs are no longer scalable and fall short of providing fine-grained enforcement. Group Based Policy (GBP) is a flexible policy language that allows users to specify policy enforcement based on intent, independent of network infrastructure and IP addressing. Using micro-segmented virtual domains, administrators can define policies at a centralized location and use IO Visor technology for distributed enforcement. This provides infrastructure independent rules, template-based policy definitions, and scale-out policy enforcement for a solution that secures and scales with microservices. This session will be presented by members of the IO Visor community and will cover how IO Visor technology can be used to define and enforce GBP. The discussion will also cover using GBP for cloud foundry application spaces where microservices are deployed and need scalable, efficient security policies.
Design and Testing Challenges for Chiplet Based Design: Assembly and Test View
zGlue Inc presented, "Design and Testing Challenges for Chiplet Based Design: Assembly and Test View," at the ODSA Workshop. The charter of the ODSA (Open Domain Specification Architecture) Workgroup is to define an open specification that enables building of Domain Specific Accelerator silicon using best-of-breed components from the industry made available as chiplet dies that can be integrated together as Lego blocks on an organic substrate packaging layer. The resulting multi-chip module (MCM) silicon can be produced at significantly lower development and manufacturing costs, and will deliver much needed performance per watt and performance per dollar efficiencies in networking, security, machine learning and other applications. The ODSA Workgroup also intends to deliver implementations of the specification as board-level prototypes, RTL code and libraries.
