Abstract
Fire safety is one of the major concerns for a safe home environment.
Current implementations of home or workplace environment monitoring
systems consist of rudimentary smoke detectors devoid of any
communication capabilities. Recent trends in the industry have shown a
growth in the use of smart devices at homes and with the recent
advances in areas of machine learning and data sciences, this trend is
expected to evolve at a rate faster than ever before.These smart devices
constantly monitor the data of their environment and make decisions by
performing data analytics on those observations. is one such example
where an ‘always-listening’ device responds intelligently to a speaker’s
command giving its users a Smart Home experience. In this
implementation, we harness the developments in aforementioned areas to
make Smart Fire Alarm System.The Smart Fire Alarm constantly monitors
the environment and not only alerts the facility where it is located, but it
also communicates with the home guardian of the property through
telegram boot making the damage control procedures efficient and faster.
An nodemcu processor , wifi, are used in this implementation to
communicate between the base station and fire and smoke detectors.
Introduction
New sensors have made it possible to detect danger signs of fire
earlier. Wireless systems make it possible for fire fighters to
strategize on how to combat a fire outbreak before they arrive at
the scene.The level of intelligence being implemented to safeguard
against fire outbreak in modern buildings today, hold the promise of
reducing false alarm, assisting firefighting and speeding up building
evacuation in the event of a fire outbreak.All around the world and
on a yearly basis, lives are lost to fire outbreaks and properties
worth millions of dollars are destroyed by fire. Residential fires
leads the pack and a combo of electrical and domestic accidents
are the most common source of fire outbreaks in homes. It has
been discovered that buildings with some form of early warning
system such as smoke, heat or flame detectors are safe to some
extent from catastrophic fire disasters. Fire protection systems are
usually tailored to the building’s purpose and design . Rapid
urbanization and over population have given rise to cities with
densely packed residential and commercial buildings .
Problem Statement
The main problem of the study entitled “ fire sensor
alarm connected with mobile phone by Wi-Fi ” was on
how the proponents would develop the system.To come
up with the development of the project, the following
were the specific statements of the problem.
1. What are the data needed to develop the Home
Security System with Mobile Application for Fire
Detection ?
2.What is the plan and design of the project?
3.What are the materials needed to develop the project?
4.What are the testing procedures to be done after the
development of the project?
Objectives
Alarm devices and systems, working to record and detect
the fire, and give a signal to operate the device. When the
fire occurs, the alarm device sends pulses via electrical
directions to the control panel, which immediately operates
a light and sound signal, and the light signal indicates the
location of the alarm while An audible signal to warn the
person in charge of the main control panel indicates the
presence of a fire.
Buildings and facilities must be equipped with alarm systems
for the purpose of protecting buildings and citizens from the
dangers of fire, by providing an early warning so that the
building can be evacuated, and fire fighting initially by trained
personnel or by automatic equipment, then calling the civil
defence teams for actual combat and rescue if necessary.
Scope
The scope of the study is to design the fire alarm System with
Mobile Application for Fire Detection .The system consists of
sensors using microcontrollers with GSM (Global System for
Mobile) Shield. For the mobile device to be used in Android
system.An androad Operating System.
Arduino Application was required in programming the
microcontroller and GSM Shield. The alarm system was only
limited in room detection fire and smoke. The mobile
application can only receive SMS signal from the sensor once
an activity was detected.An alarming sound would be emitted
on the sensor and mobile device and the application would be
opened as an indicator of a detection event. Moreover, the
study was limited to alarm system for rooms only, inside the
building or establishments and not applicable for other rooms
and populated areas.
Internet of Things
Based on people’s demand for energy saving in their homes, the
development of smart house technology is an inevitable result .A
smart house refers to the integration of all automation
equipment through the network system to provide a service that
is highly efferent overall, thereby ensuring that the public’s needs
are met in terms of home safety, a healthy and humane living
environment, convenience, and quality of life .
The modern smart home system includes the following
subsystems: lighting, climate control, security, technical incidents
prevention subsystem and others . There are four common
methods of IoT connection control: Internet Control (W-Fi),
Area Network Control (WebSocket), Bluetooth and Serial Port.
Each of these four methods has its own advantages. For example,
to control US devices in Taiwan, you must use Wi-Fi control. If
you want to control multiple devices at the same time, you can
consider WebSocket and Bluetooth connection.
Hardware
1- NodeMCU
The Node MCU (Node Micro Controller Unit) is an open-source
software and hardware development environment built around an
inexpensive System-on-a-Chip (SoC) called the ESP8266. The
ESP8266, designed and manufactured by Espresso Systems, contains
the crucial elements of a computer: CPU, RAM, networking (Wi-Fi),
and even a modern operating system and SDK. That makes it an
excellent choice for the Internet of Things (IoT) projects of all kinds.
However, as a chip, the ESP8266 is also hard to access and use You
must solder wires, with the appropriate analog voltage, to its pins for
the simplest tasks such as powering it on or sending a keystroke to
the “computer” on the chip.You also have to program it in low-level
machine instructions that can be interpreted by the chip hardware.
This level of integration is not a problem using the ESP8266 as an
embedded controller chip in mass-produced electronics. It is a huge
burden for hobbyists, hackers, or students who want to experiment
with it in their own IoT projects
2- Analog Flame Sensor
Flame Sensors, Smoke Sensors, Fire Alarms etc. are part
of a safety equipment that help us in keeping our
homes, offices and stores safe from fire accidents[21].
Almost all modern houses, apartments, malls, cinema
halls, theatres, office buildings and shops are equipped
with such safety equipment and it is mandatory in some
regions to fire safety devices.
A Flame Sensor is a device that can be used to detect
presence of a fire source or any other bright light
sources.
3- MQ2 Gas Sensor
Sensors are the electronic devices used for interaction with the
outer environment.There are various types of sensors available that
can detect light, noise, smoke, proximity etc… With the advent in
technology, these are available as both analog and digital forms.
Besides forming a communication with the outer environment,
sensors are also a crucial part of safety systems. Fire sensors are
used to detect the fire and take appropriate precautions on time. For
smooth functioning of control systems and sensitive electronics,
humidity sensors are used for maintaining humidity in the unit. One
of such sensor used in safety systems to detect harmful gases is MQ2
Gas sensor.
. MQ2 gas sensor is an electronic sensor used for sensing the
concentration of gases in the air such as LPG, propane, methane,
hydrogen, alcohol, smoke and carbon monoxide. MQ2 gas sensor is
also known as chemiresistor. It contains a sensing material whose
resistance changes when it comes in contact with the gas.This change
in the value of resistance is used for the detection of gas.
4- PCB 2sided Prototype veroBoard
Universal prototype PCB circuit board, 2.54mm hole pitch,
double sided, tin plated, used for point to point soldering.
5-IC 7805
7805 is a three terminal linear voltage regulator IC with a fixed output voltage of
5V which is useful in a wide range of applications. Currently, the 7805 Voltage
Regulator IC is manufactured by Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductor,
STMicroelectronics, Diodes incorporated, Infineon Technologies
Software

IDE stands for “Integrated Development
Environment” :it is an official software
introduced by Arduino.cc, that is mainly used for
editing, compiling and uploading the code in the
Arduino Device.Almost all Arduino modules are
compatible with this software that is an open
source and is readily available to install and start
compiling the code on the go. In this article, we
will introduce the Software, how we can install
it, and make it ready for developing applications
using Arduino modules
EXPERIMENTS AND RESULTS
Connect the hardware components of the project
-Installing Node MCU on a pcb board using soldering
-Connect the fire sensor and smoke sensor mq2 with
the MCU node according to the connection Scheme
-Upload the code to the node mcu
-Enter the Telegram program and create a bot to send alert
messages and adjust the settings:
1- open link t.me/botfather
2-Type /newbot
3-Save the bot token
4-search for “IDBot” or open this link t.me/myidbot in
your smartphone.
5-type /getid
6-save IDBOT
7-Find the bot that has been created and press to start
-When sensing fire or smoke, the device issues an audio
alert with a red light, and at the same time, the device
sends a message to the user to warn in the event of a fire
Conclusions
This paper presents an efficient solution and low-cost home for fire safety. Internet of
things (IoT) was the main concept used to develop the home fire detection notification
system with simple hardware and minimum cost.The outcome from this system is useful to
be implemented at home to help reduce the probability of injury or deaths, furthermore to
minimize the loses that the victim must bear due to fire hazard. Therefore, this system
become a special enhancement from the existing system for home security purposes
which most of the house owner are affordable to install and use this system.
The system was developed and work properly to detect and send the alert notification to
the smartphone house owner and a group of users using Telegram Bot instant messaging.
The system utilized the IoT technology such as NodeMCU as microcontroller, flame
sensor, gas sensor .
send to the user respectively to take an appropriate action when the fire happened.
Besides a real-time command can be used to activate the system remotely using Telegram
Bot. Therefore, the system would help to prevent and reduce the number of house fire
cases.
The results showed the system can detect the presence of the fire and send the
notification in a reasonable time. Hence, it appeared that the system was suitable to be
used by the house owner.
This paper has highlighted the use of IoT technology and takes advantage of Telegram Bot
instant messenger capabilities in order to enhance the home fire detection system and
achieve its proposed goal effectively. The contribution lies in cost saving, provide reliable
services and alert the house owner and group of users, thereby reducing loss of live and
property.
FUTURE WORK
After the completion of the study, the
proponents recommend:
1-To enhance the system and make this an easy
and user friendly on actual implementation.
2-To add video surveillance feature on the
system.
3-Create database for the record keeping of
the system for detailed incident report.
4-Make the design of the system durable and
reliable in any matter of incidents happened.
