This document provides requirements for a term paper on new media. Students are asked to analyze an artwork or series of works from 1960 onwards that raises questions about the nature of images or sounds generated by new media or our relationship with reality through them. Topics that can be focused on include imitation, recording, encoding, format, simulacrum, or critical misuses. The paper should be 5-8 double spaced pages and cite sources with footnotes and a bibliography. It also provides inspiration for addressing philosophical issues raised by new media, analyzing their historical context, and mapping their characteristics.
