The document instructs students to analyze the 2014 Flint, Michigan lead water crisis from a Marxist class perspective. Students are asked to educate themselves on the crisis, present the demographics of Flint, and explain the issues. They should then apply Marxist's two-class analysis of bourgeoisie and proletariat, as well as two social concepts, relating these to the crisis. At least two peer-reviewed sources no older than five years should validate the arguments.

Assignment: Topic Exploration and Analysis (Proposal)
In Week 6 of this course, you will submit an 8-page research paper (Final Project) in which you are required to:
Analyze an important social change movement of the
pre-modern era
(pre-1945).
Analyze an important social change movement of the
modern era
(post 1945).
Compare and contrast both movements.
Analyze and explain the leadership structure of both movements. Who led these social change efforts? Was it an individual or a collective effort? What prompted individuals to become leaders of the movements?
Analyze how the movements parallel or complement each other.
Evaluate the success of these movements in promoting social change.
This week, as part of the Final Project writing process, you will complete a Topic Exploration and Analysis (Proposal). In this proposal, you will select your research topics (the two social change movements), create a beginning outline of what you plan to cover in the Final Project, provide a short summary of your initial research findings, and provide an initial bibliography.
In preparation:
Review the Final Project Guidelines document, located in this week’s Learning Resources.
Select and begin to research a social change movement pertinent to the
pre-modern era
(pre-1945). For ideas, look at content contained in Weeks 1–3 of this course. Pay particular attention to the selection of readings in the course text for each of these weeks.
Select and begin to research one of the following social change movements pertinent to the
modern era
(post 1945):
African American civil rights movement
Chicano movement
American Indian or ”Red Power” movement
Women’s rights movement
LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) rights movement
Disability rights movement
Maintain a listing of scholarly resources that you locate and are using. The Walden Library provides a rich selection of material. Keep in mind that websites are generally not considered sources of scholarly material.
Note:
In your initial research this week, look at the historical background of each issue, the leadership structure in each movement, examples of specific changes that resulted related to each movement, and challenges the movement faced or is still facing. Consider the impact, successes, and failures of each movement.
The Assignment
Write a 1- to 2-page essay that includes:
Identification of the two social movements you will address in your Final Project
A brief outline of what you plan to cover in the paper
A short summary of your initial research findings

Next, sociologically analyze (2) the strengths and weaknesses of each shift separately.
Notes: to sociologically analyze means to objectively examine an idea in detail, discussing its essential elements so as to identify causes, key factors, and possible results
Finally,
as a responsible member of a democratic, civil society, use your critical thinking and analytical skills to present a specific program or policy that should be implemented to resolve and/or manage the issue of American poverty. Be specific regarding the role(s) of the suggested policy in mitigating the issue. Students are encouraged to support their argument with direct textual evidence and sociological insights (applicable terms and concepts learned over your semester of study).

~ 1a) Social Inequality
The Week 4 Instructor Question meets the following course objectives:
•Apply a sociological perspective to the social world
•Analyze contemporary social issues using the sociological imagination and use sociological theories and concepts to analyze everyday life.
•Discuss global stratification and explain social class and the impact of stratification in the United States.
•Describe sex and gender, race and ethnicity, and the elderly in the United States as well as how inequality, prejudice, and discrimination impacts certain groups of people in society
•Develop written communication skills and critical thinking skills.
•Apply American Psychological Association formatting and citation style when completing course assignments.
Initial forum postings should be a minimum of 250 words. Each student must also respond to a minimum of 1 fellow students' postings; each response must be at least 100 words in length.
Choose ONE of the following questions:
1. How is power wielded in the social world? Do agree more with functionalist or conflict theorists regarding the concept of power in a democracy? Be sure to describe both the functionalist and conflict perspectives on power in society and provide evidence or examples to support your position.
2. Describe the functionalist view of social stratification, and the conflict theory's view of social stratification. Then take a pro or con position on each of the following three points: first, social stratification is necessary for societies to exist and prosper; second, the United States functions, overall, as a meritocracy; and third, human beings-driven as they are by human nature-are incapable of ever creating and/or living in a classless society. Provide detail about 'why' you are taking the pro or con position for each point.
3. Will there ever be complete equality between males and females in the United States? Should there be? What would constitute complete equality? Do you think the women's movement is stronger or weaker today than it was in the 1970s? In what ways? In challenging gender stratification, do you think that feminists sometimes over-exaggerate the problem of sexual inequality in the United States? If so, how? The text offers a few explanations for the origins of patriarchy while ignoring religion. Given that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all patriarchal religions, do you think that the feminist movement is an attack against religion? Finally, what is a feminist? Are you a feminist? If so, why? If not, why? Be sure to use examples from the text in your discussion.

Students are to write a four to five paper based on a current events.docxorlandov3
Students are to write a four to five paper based on a current events article, applying theory to a specific subject/issue/event in today's society. Students will use this article as "data' on which they will seek to explain this current event through theory we have discussed this year in class (going from Tocqueville to Dubois). The article must be attached to the paper!
The paper should include:
1) An intro, one or two paragraphs explaining the topic the student is writing on, the source of this information, and the theory they will be using
2) A summary and description of the article and the social issue it reports on (1-2 pages).
3) A discussion of how your theory explains this issue.(1-2 pages)
4) A conclusion, summing up your argument; why is the theory you chose important in dealing with this issue (1-2 paragraphs).
5) References. Must include at least a reference from the writings of the theorist (on Blackboard) and a secondary reference relating to this theorist and theory (for instance, a reference to an article by sociologist Robert Merton on Weber's Protestant Ethic thesis)
Example's of Theorist: Marx, Max Weber, Du bois, Tocqueville.

Research
Complete the following research in preparation for this unit's discussions:
Locate at least three peer-reviewed articles that discuss examples—either contemporary or historical—of protectionism and isolationism. Please include the articles with this discussion as separate attachments. Of these three, only one example can be about the United States. You will be using these articles in the Inclusionism in Modern Society discussion later in this unit, so you will want to find examples that provide interesting elements for you and your peers' analyses.
Discussion Assignment:
Inclusionism offers opportunities to collaborate on public issues and to find solutions that address some of the most troubling problems of modern times. Incorporate the articles you located in the first study into your discussion post.
What situations have you personally encountered that are analogous to isolationism? To inclusionism? Contrast the results of these experiences. If such experiences are outside of your personal experience, use examples from literature you have encountered in this course. What decision-making and communications strategies are appropriate for inclusionist approaches? What will this mean in your work as a public administrator? How do these concepts intersect with the global issues that the public administration field faces today?

SOC 213 Final Project Guidelines and RubricOverviewThe final.docxMARRY7
SOC 213: Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a sociological imagination PowerPoint presentation.
The presentation is designed to encourage students to think about social problems—past or present, local or global—using their sociological imagination, which involves looking beyond the traditional expectations or veneer associated with social problems. This sociological skill set is imperative in order for student’s to truly begin to grasp the relationship and distinction between individual biography and social structures. Social problems are aspects of society that communities of people are concerned about and want to change or improve. Because social problems are social creations, students will uncover structural and cultural variables that help explain how a current social problem has emerged and persisted, and students will ultimately develop a “sociological imagination”“—the ability to see behaviors socially and understand how they interact and influence each other. The objective is to submit, in a creative PowerPoint presentation, a compelling case for why a student’s chosen social problem is indeed a social and cultural problem and not simply the result of individual choices. Sociologists do not discount the role of personal responsibility within a certain context, but rather seek to understand the power of an environment in shaping personal choices and patterns.
For example, consider the social problem of youth unemployment. It is well-documented that in the last several years of America’s economy, young people have experienced unemployment in greater numbers. A presentation in this course about youth unemployment might be framed initially about how, in an American culture that is so focused on individual responsibility and achievement, an issue such as youth unemployment can be treated as purely an individual problem.
False information surrounding youth unemployment at large sounds like this: “Today's youth are self-centered and lazy, and they have a sense of entitlement.” “They are not willing to make the sacrifices that we did by working their way up the corporate ladder.” To more specifically understand this sociological problem, students would need to narrow its parameters by selecting a given time period and/or a specific geographic area for youth unemployment. If a student chose to understand unemployment as a result of the Great Recession, it would be easier to scope the range of factors that contribute to this ongoing issue. To better individualize this issue, a student might choose to share his or her own story or that of a family member or a friend who experienced losing a job. Or, a student could choose to share the narrative from a movie, such as The Pursuit of Happiness or another contemporary example. Following this, it would be important to highlight a particular sociological theory: conflict, functionalism, or symbolic interactionism.

Assignment 1 the sociological viewpoint toward social problems (Due.docxmaribethy2y
Assignment 1: the sociological viewpoint toward social problems (Due Week 3)
Overview
One of the most crucial components to this course concerns addressing social problems in society from a sociological viewpoint as opposed to a strictly policy-oriented, psychological, or criminal justice viewpoint. Although many different viewpoints in social science are valid and have a lot of importance, it is equally important for us to understand how sociology looks at the nature of social problems in society today. This paper will enable us to explore why certain social problems seem to be regarded as more significant than others. Our job will be in defining the sociological viewpoint, and choosing one social problem that we think is of high importance. We will build upon the topic we choose in this paper for our second and third writing assignments.
Instructions
Construct a 2-4 page paper that fully explores each of the following areas:
1)
Citing our textbook material, explain how the sociological approach toward social problems differs from other approaches. Why are certain problems considered significant and others are not?
2)
Next, choose one social problem that exists in society that you think is particularly serious, and explain it in sociological terms. This social problem should be measurable in some statistical way. (Is it increasing, and if so, how? Among which groups of people, and for how long, etc.?)
3)
What might be one important way in which the social problem is currently being addressed in society?
4)
Please define and identify at least four concepts from our text relevant to your chosen social problem.
5)
Analyze the way in which these concepts help us better understand the nature of the social problem you are discussing.
Don’t forget to include proper APA-style citation and reference.
The paper should be typed, double-spaced, 1” margins, arial or times new roman 11 pt font, and saved as .doc, .rtf or .pdf in the format: lastname_SOCI212_HW1.doc
DISCLAIMER: Originality of attachments will be verified by Turnitin. Both you and your instructor will receive the results.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
