Singapore Polytechnic hosted an event to present an MOU for their Industry Mentors' Network (IMN) mentoring program, where industry practitioners provide career guidance to small groups of students. The program aims to help students with personal growth and understanding future career options, and has partnered over 60 students with mentors from 14 companies. The principal said the program will play a critical role in shaping Singapore's future workforce by ensuring generations can thrive amid challenges and keeping education aligned with industry changes.

IMN is a mentoring programme where an industry practitioner provides professional and
industry guidance to a small group of students to help them in their personal growth and
development, and particularly for their career.

2. Principal and Chief Executive Officer Soh Wai Wah said,
"The future remains uncertain but positive if we help
ensure that future generations can thrive amidst the
challenges. Thus, the polytechnics hope to work closely
with our industry partners, to help us future-proof the
education and training of our future workforce, and
increase its competitiveness. Opportunities like the
Industry Mentors' Network will thus play a critical role in
shaping Singapore's future."
The MOU inked last week at SPCC is a joint effort
between Singapore Poly, Temasek Poly and Ngee Ann
Poly to help students gain a clearer understanding of
their future career options and also to provide an added
dimension of real world learning. With the help of SP
lecturers from various schools, industry mentors from 14
different companies for over 60 SP students were linked
up. Industry partners include Land Transport Authority
of Singapore, PSA Corporation and National University
Hospital (Singapore).

3. In today's fast paced world with technologies rapidly
changing the way we work, it is important for us to remain
plugged into the real world and understand the changes
that are happening. As such, the IMN is in line with
Singapore's SkillsFuture movement which aims to help
each Singaporean develop relevant skills and be a life-long
learner. By having students partner with industry
professionals, both sides will stand to glean positive
learning points.
Students will receive advice and guidance on career goal-
setting as well as have the networking opportunities to
build up contacts within their chosen industry. Mentors
will also have the opportunity to reflect on their own
personal experiences and use this as a platform to
understand the motivations and concerns of the younger
generation.

4. Besides students and mentors benefitting, companies and polytechnics will also
benefit from this collaboration. Companies will be able to raise awareness of their
particular industry and gather innovative ideas and fresh perspectives while
polytechnics will be helping students deepen their skills and commitment in the
sectors they are trained for.
