The “Smart Grid” is often described as the “Internet for Electricity” in which will
modernize our aging electricity distribution grids with the goals of reducing excess
energy and incorporating renewable energy sources. Numerous factors are forcing
the outdated energy distribution grids around the world to become ‘smarter’, from
rising energy costs to environmental concerns. That said, three challenges remain:
1) absence of bold incentives as utilities struggle with their return on investment
case, 2) unclear regulatory guidelines, and 3) a lack of standards and international

When you have excess renewable power - you are obliged to be able to store and reuse this power at a later stage. This is now available using a hydrogen battery - that can easily store several MWh of energy - that can be used to stabilize the grid - or simply to store when the feed-in tarifs are low - and the release when the feed-in tarifs are high. The application are numerous - and the technology is here today.
Alternative Heat - Technical Insights
Alternative Heat is an established biomass heating company that has installed over 100 biomass boilers with a total capacity of over 10MW. They offer a range of renewable heating technologies including biomass boilers, solar panels, heat pumps, and underfloor heating. The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) provides significant government subsidies for renewable heat in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and fuel poverty. Alternative Heat has submitted over 35 successful RHI applications by carefully following the application guidelines and regulations. - 4. Brief European History During the 1973 fuel crisis the Government of Austria ran trials on vehicles powered with pure plant oil. The conclusions of their work was that the high viscosity of oil destroys engines, injectors and pumps. Recommendations : Change the fuel NOT the vehicles. Biodiesel was created. 1992 First commercial Biodiesel plant in Gratz 1996 1600 Filling stations in Germany provide 100% Biodiesel.
