Marketing the 21st Century Learning Aspects of Jewish Day SchoolJon Mitzmacher
This is from my presentation at "PEJE Atidenu" on February 9, 2015. It combines an introduction of "21st century learning" drawn heavily from the work of Silvia Tolisano (with use of her slides) and Andrea Hernandez with real-life examples of new marketing from the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School in Jacksonville, Florida.

As Dowagiac Union Schools embarks on an effort to rethink its school facilities, this presentation begins a dialogue about how new technology and educational facility planning trends are shaping the renovation of older school facilities. School buildings in the 21st Century must be flexible and adaptable to varying educational delivery methods.
The core aim of the Reinvention Centre for Undergraduate Research is to ‘reinvent’ the undergraduate curriculum through the promotion of research-based learning. In so doing, the Reinvention Centre is attempting to re-create the notion of an inclusive academic community where learners, teachers and researchers are all seen as scholars and collaborators in the common pursuit of knowledge. The Reinvention Centre is grounded conceptually and practically in the work of Ernest Boyer (1990) and the Boyer Commission’s ‘Reinventing Undergraduate Education’ (1999), from which the name of the Centre is taken. Through a critical engagement with Boyer’s work the Reinvention Centre has developed its own concepts that are having an impact across the sector, for example ‘Student as Producer’, ‘Creative Environments for Learning’ and ‘Teaching for Complexity’.

Corner Stitching is technique for representing and interacting with 2D layouts with “Manhattan” features, that enables linear time algorithms for searching, creation, deletion, or compaction.
Corner Stitching was first introduced by John K. Ousterhout in 1982. In the context of my thesis, I’ve ported the original algorithms from pseudo code written in Pascal to Smalltalk, and more recently I’ve been working on a SWIFT implementation, which I will briefly discuss in this lighting talk.

TLA 2016 Conference--Transform your library space from a repository of resources to a dynamic and adaptable learning space that meets the diverse needs of students.
Pfau Long Architecture hosted a workshop at CAIS 2016 on learning commons. The workshop focused on how educators and designers are working toward a common goal of how to evolve a traditional study space for learning. The learning commons concept is becoming increasingly widespread for libraries at public and independent schools as well as colleges and universities. One of the drivers of adopting a learning commons approach is to mirror the real world by encouraging a more hands-on approach to research and problem solving.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. What is a Makerspace?
“A makerspace is a community destination where
students—sometimes alongside staff, parents, and
mentors– can create, problem solve, and develop skills,
talents, thinking, and mental rigor” ~ Preddy
4. Why a Makerspace in the Media Center?
• Standard 1: School Library Media Coordinators Demonstrate
Leadership
• Element a. School library media coordinators lead in the school
library media center and media program to support student success.
School library media coordinators provide leadership for the school
library media program. They share responsibility for the progress of
all students to ensure that they graduate from high school, are
globally competitive for work and postsecondary education and are
prepared for life in the 21st Century. They collaboratively create, align,
and implement a program informed by state and national guidelines
and research-based best practices. They transform the library
media center into a 21st Century learning environment (both
virtual and physical) and a shared space for knowledge
construction, collaboration and inquiry-based learning, and they
assist teachers with similar transformations. They coordinate the
activities and training of library media support personnel.
