This document provides an introduction to the concept of "new power" in Nepal. It explains that new power refers to a new alternative political thought, culture, and behavior. It aims to address the shortcomings of existing political parties and fulfill the hopes and trust of the people. New power seeks to establish a new framework for economic growth and development based on reinterpreting socialist ideals to address weaknesses while respecting individual dignity. It also discusses analyzing contemporary class structures and the need to develop new leadership, policies, and programs through consensus to build this new power in Nepal.
To share the overall activities of the project, along with its results, in a way such that it can be easily referred to and understood from, the JICA-ERAKV Project (The Project for Assessment of Earthquake Disaster Risk for the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal), published its project brochure and shared with the counterparts and the general public during the Final Seminar (14th February, 2018).

With the Support of Atlas Network, Bikalpa –an Alternative translated the English version “Peace, Love and Liberty” into Nepali Language.
Peace, Love and Liberty is a book that offers evidence and argument for peace. The essays on this book illustrate that war is not in favor of the common people; however it may benefits the few who have vested interest. The book also gives throw insight on how war curtails the individual freedom and gives the rights to selected few to impose their authority. It teaches us the value of trade and demonstrates how it serves to achieve peace and prosperity to the society. Altogether there are 15 chapters written by the scholars who value peace and persuade readers that peace, freedom, prosperity, and progress go hand-in-hand.
The book is highly relevant to Nepalese context. Nearly a decade ago, Nepal overcomes the Maoist insurgency; still there are groups and sentiments that keeps on fueling the ideas conflict and violence rather than peace. It always creates a possibility and threat of emerging same kinds of militia groups that can escalate violence in coming future. Also after the promulgation of new constitution, some of the agitating parties are continuing their protest activities in a violent way, which have threaten peace and individual freedom of the citizens. This book teaches us immense value of peace and growth. Bikalpa translated the book to make it available to all the Nepalese readers who can be benefited from lessons of the book.
Translation of the book is completed on July 2015. Basanta Adhikari, Founding Chairperson translated the book. It is translated in simple way that helps Nepalese readers to understand without any difficulty. The books are also available at Bikalpa office and in the market.

New movements seek a cooperative, caring, and
community-nurturing economy that is ecologically
sustainable, equitable, and socially responsible —
one that is based on rethinking and democratizing
the nature of ownership at every level.
The inability of traditional politics and policies to
address fundamental challenges has fueled an
extraordinary amount ofexperimentation in
communities across the United States and around
the world.
We seek to define sufficiently clear options for “the
next system” so that we can radically expand the
boundaries of political debate in the United States

and help give greater clarity of long term direction
to activists, researchers, and practitioners—and to
millions of others.
The proper system design goal is an economy that
maintainsecological balance between aggregate
human consumptionand the regenerative capacity of
the biosphere while maintainingan equitable
distribution of real wealth and supporting deep
democracy.
Putting an end to the prevailing neoliberal
opposition to fullemployment will require an epoch-
defining reallocation ofpolitical power away from
the interests of big business andWall Street.
Community ownership, cooperatives, municipal
enterprise, and a host of kindred institutional forms
all represent ways in which capital can be held in
common by small and large publics.
Over time, a fundamental shift in the ownership of
wealth and incooperative culture is projected as a
significant basis of supportfor policies leading to
greater equality
It is time to get beyond the rigid belief that top-down
corporatecapitalism and anti-democratic state
socialism are the only optionsavailable.
