Introduction:
The current system of schooling
poces tremendous burden on
children.
 knowledge is essentially a human
construct, a continuously evolving
process of reflective learning.
 The NCF 2005, requires a teacher to
be a facilitator of children's learning
in a manner that the child is helped to
construct his/her knowledge.

 Education is not a mechanical activity
of information transmission and
teachers are not information
dispenses.
 Teachers have to increasingly play the
role of crucial mediating agents
through whom curriculum is
transacted.
 Hence, teaching profession is a role
profession and teacher should
maintain his nobility.

Meaning of Teaching:
Teaching derived from : To teach which means to
instruct.
 Process in which one individual make something
known to another individual.
 Teaching is a bipolar process John Adam(Narrow
Meaning)

DEFINITION OF TEACHING :
H.C.Morrison(1934) :" Teaching is an intimate contact
between a more mature personality and less mature one
which is designed to further the education of the latter".
N.L,Gage(1962) :" Teaching is a form of interpersonal
influence aimed at changing the behaviour potential of
another person".
B.D.Smith(1961) :" Teaching is a system of actions
intended to induce learning".

Nature of Teaching:
In its broadset senset, teaching is a
process that facilitate learning. teaching
is the specialised application of
knowledge, skills, and attributes designed
to provide unique service to meet the
educational needs of the individual and of
society.
 The choice of learning activities where by
the goals of education are realised in the
school the responsibility of the teaching
profession.

 Addition to providing students with learning
opportunities to meet curriculum outcomes,
teaching emphasizes the development of
values and guide students in their social
relationships.

positive self- concept in students. to the work

teaching profession fulfills those criteria in the
following ways:

extensive background in the world and its culture and
the set of teaching methods experientially derived
continuous research in all parts of the world.

permanent certification.

growth of teachers and judgement about their
competence.
 Teachers are devoted to continuous development
of their ability to deliver their service.

There is a degree of autonomy accorded the
professional:
 Teachers have opportunities to make decisions
about important aspects of their work.
 Teachers apply reasoned judgement and
professional decision making daily in diagnosing
educational needs, prescribing and implementing
instructional programs, and evaluating the
progress of students.
 The profession has control or Reliance over
education standards, admissions, licensing,
professional development, ethical and performance
standards, personal discipline.
