Answers
One marker
1. People commonly understand by the term
nationalism, we are likely to get responses
which talk about patriotism, national flags,
sacrificing for country.
2. Unification of Germany and Italy are the
relevant examples.
3. Even though member of state, we do not know
people personally all the members of we are not
related to them in any way yet we respect nations.
4. As a member of state we give recognition of the
states because we all have
Mother land, father land or
6. When a nation demands from the
social groups that they should decide
their futures and govern themselves.
7. People of different cultural and
racial recognition are able to co-exist
like friends.
8. People of single culture shall reside
in a state.
Two markers
1. It has inspired intense loyalties as well as
deep hatreds. It has united people as well as
divided them.
2. But nationalism also accompanied and
contributed to the breakup of large empires
such as the Austro-Hungarian and Russian
empires in the early twentieth century in
Europe as well as the break-up of the
British, French, Dutch and
Portuguese empires in Asia and Africa.
3. A nation is not any casual collection of
people. At the same time it is also different
from other groups or communities found in
human society. It is different from the family
which is based on face-to face relationships
with each member having direct personal
knowledge of the identity and character of
others. It is also different from tribes and
clans and other kinship groups.
4. A nation is considered by beliefs.
Nations are not like mountains, rivers or
buildings not things which exist
independent of the beliefs that people
about them.
5. Most societies are culturally diverse.
They have people belonging to different
religious and languages living together in the
same territory. It is desirable to imagine the
nation in political rather than cultural terms.
That is, democracies need to emphasis then
cultural terms. That is, democracies need to
emphasis and expert loyalty to a set of values
that may be enshrined in the constitution of
the country rather than adherence to a
particular religion, race or language.
6. We have paradoxical situation of
nation states which themselves had
achieved independence through struggle
now acting against minorities within
their own territories who claim the right
to national self-determination.
Four markers
1. In the nineteenth century Europe, it led to the
unification of a number of small kingdoms into
large nation-states. The present day German and
Italian states were formed through such a process
of unification and consolidation. A large number
of new states were also founded in Latin America.
But nationalism also accompanied and contributed
to the breakup of large empires such as the
Austro-Hungarian and Russian empires in the
early twentieth century in Europe as well as the
breakup of British, French, Dutch and Portuguese
empires in Asia and Africa.
2. Globalization is spreading in the world
but nationalist aspirations continue to
motivate many groups and communities.
Considerable generosity and skill is
needed for countries to be able to deal with
such demands in a democratic manner. But it
does not mean that we are sympathetic
towards the non-tolerable aspects of
nationalism.
3. In the nineteenth century in Europe the notion of one-
culture -one-state began to gain acceptability at the time.
Subsequently, the idea of one-culture-one state was
employed while reordering state boundaries after world-
war I. the treaty of Versailles established a number of
small, newly independence states, but it proved virtually
impossible to satisfy all the demands for self-
determination which were made at the time. Today also it
is impossible to imply this policy, so we abandon the idea
of one-culture-one state; it becomes necessary to consider
ways by which different cultures and communities can
survive and flourish with in a country.
4. Self-determination: which were made at
the time, led to mass migration of population
across state boundaries? Millions of people
as a can sequence were displaced from their
homes and expelled from the land which had
been their home for generations. Many
others become victims of communal
violence.
5.
I. Communalism
II. Castes
III. regionalism
IV. Linguist
V. Racism
6. A nation-state which does not respect the
right and cultural identity of minorities
within the state would find it difficult to
gain the loyalty of its members. For it nation
should be more democratic and equalitarian.
So that people of different cultural and
racial identities can live friends.
Five markers
1.
I. Jawaharlal Nehru
II. According to author our country has
distinct
religions, languages and castes, still it is
integrated
one.
III. Meaning of political fate mentioned is the
time of long captivity, which India had to
bear during British period.
2.
I. Author wants that there should not be
countries-boundaries, but everyone should
work for the welfare of humanity so that
whole world seems one.
II. Patriotism contributed to the breakup of
large empires so human should be given due
preference over the state or nation.
III. Author wants to convey that we should
move towards the creation of global village
and should not separate nations with
boundaries.
3.
I. In general people mean nationalism as
National flag, national song, national anthem
and patriotism and sacrifice for the country.
II. The picture represents nationalism as to pay
tax, to caste vote, to respect laws, and
encourage the team on winning.
III. A good citizen is who respect law, caste vote
pays tax on time, to feel proud as country man
and protects historical buildings etc.
Six Markers
1.
I. Common history
II. Common beliefs
III. Common territory
IV. common political ideals
V. collective political identity
2. Democratic governments are capable of
handling the struggling powers more efficiently
though these
governments are inclusive and follow equality the
autocratic government. Today the world is
dreaming global village, in such circumstances
struggling powers become hindrance in this dream,
such hindrances can be removed in democratic
manner but the countries should present their
capabilities and skills. It is necessary that we should
accept the verification of such claims but it does not
mean at all that we are sympathetic towards the
national intolerance and one sidedness.
3.
•Regionalism
•Degradation of values
•Religion diversity
•Economic diversity
•Linguistic diversity
Thank you
