Traditional Ukrainian folk music has elements of both Eastern and Western musical patterns and uses simple time signatures along with compound rhythms. Vocal music included many ritualistic songs that were sung in solo, duet, and group harmonies and showed influences from both Eastern and Western musical traditions over time. Traditional Ukrainian instruments included the kobza, bandura, torban, violin, basolya, lira, tsymbaly, and sopilka.
