22. Bicaz Canyon was dug by the waters of Bicaz River and it serves as a passageway between Transylvania and Moldavia. BICAZ CANYON – HASMAS NATIONAL PARK
23. ‘ The Altar Rock’ - climber's challenge - is situated at an altitude of 1121 m. The legend goes that in ancient times, when our ancestors, the Dacians, lived here, this was the very place where they used to perform their religious ceremonies. BICAZ CANYON – HASMAS NATIONAL PARK
24. The Karst Reservation Sugau Canyon is a rocky area on which there are rows of waterfalls. BICAZ CANYON – HASMAS NATIONAL PARK
26. The Red Lake is the largest natural storage dam lake in Romania. The lake was formed when a huge piece of stone from the Killer Mountain blocked the courses of three creeks. The left over trunks of the spruce trees are silent witnesses of that calamity. BICAZ CANYON – HASMAS NATIONAL PARK
27. The reddish colour comes from the red alluvia - iron oxides and hydroxides deposited in the lake. BICAZ CANYON – HASMAS NATIONAL PARK
31. VANATORI NATURAL PARK The Copper Woods Reservation – over 135 years old sessile trees forest.
32. VANATORI NATURAL PARK The Silver Forest Reservation - a forest of birch trees which are 100 years old.
33. VANATORI NATURAL PARK The Bison Reservation - 22 bison live here almost like in their natural habitat.
34. VANATORI NATURAL PARK The bison used to live in Romania until 200 years ago but, unfortunately, it became extinct due to excessive hunting. The current story of the bison started in 1958, when a couple of bison had been brought to Romania from Poland. Nowadays, bison can be found in six locations all over the country, in captivity or half-free ( 80% of them).
