4. Białowieża National Park (Polish:
Białowieski Park Narodowy) is a National
Park in Podlaskie Voivodeship, in Eastern
Poland near the border with Belarus. The
border between the two countries runs
through the forest. The total area of the
park is 152.2 square kilometres. It is
known for the protection of bisons. It is
home to the world's largest population
of European bison (Polish: żubr). Bisons
are the continent's heaviest land
animals. The symbol of the park is the
bison, because in this park this animal
was saved from destruction.

CENTRE
In the national park there is The
European Bison Breeding Centre.
The idea of creating a national park
is about 200 years old. However,
the genuine protection efforts are
centuries older.
6. The Bialowieza Forest is a living
environment for a huge number of
animal species for this climate
zone. - up to 12,000 species of
animals have been found in the
Forest so far there are about120
species of birds, 7 species of
reptiles and 11 species of
amphibians.
11. The park's formal beginning
was the Forest Reserve
inspectorate (Polish: Rezerwat)
established in 1921. Then it
was transformed into the
National Park in Białowieża in
1932. After World War II, it was
divided between Poland and the
Belarusian SSR of the Soviet
Union.

1.The park is and always will be under strict protection.
2. Human should support nature. In the Białowieski National Park
within the last half century, about 30 species have disappeared.

The Białowieża Forest has been tended by foresters for
over 90 years.
4. In 1919, the last bison in the Białowieża Forest died.
Only bison in enclosed animal farms survived.
5. Approximately 140,000 tourists come to the Białowieża
National Park every year.
