Documentaries rely on narrative structure with a beginning, middle, and end. They set the tone using music, sound effects, and interviews to present conflicting views on a central issue. As the documentary progresses, it offers more detailed examinations and a range of arguments to create complications. It either provides a clear conclusion that resolves the complications or leaves the audience to draw their own conclusions. Elements like conflict, music, selection of topics, interviews, and cost must be carefully considered during production.

2. Documentaries rely heavily on narrative
conventions. They have a definite beginning,
middle and end. They conventionally include music
and sound making it more interesting.

3. This will lay out the central question of
documentaries and go into some action footage or
quick interview conflicts setting the tone. The tone
will also be set through music and sound effects

4. This is where the examination of issues in more detail and
voice difference in opinions, argument becomes stronger. It
will offer a range of different arguments creating
complications and conflicting evidence through Vox Pops
and expert interviews.

5. Makes the expositional fully apparent. The
complications are resoled and there is no doubt for
the audience or the audience is left to conclude
there own opinion by collecting all of the opinions
to form your their own.

6.  Conflict- can be shown through opinion, personal account, narrator,
reconstructions and Vox pops
 Music and sound effects- To create emotions and to add interest. The music
normally goes quieter behind an interview.
 Selection and construction- Topics, who?, what?, when?, why? And how?
(mediation and gate keeping)
 Inserts and cut away - Creates pace and therefore mood with interview no more
than 10 seconds of still camera to keep interest
 Cost- needs to be taken into account as if things are cut or added again this
mediation can cause misrepresentation.

Our documentary will be open
narrative because we don’t
have the time or money to
investigate our questions
further and due to having 5
minutes of edited footage a
conclusion couldn't’t be made.
