Effect of substitution of ethanol extract of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) instead of Antibiotic use in poultry and its impact on liver function enzymes and weight gain in broiler chickens Rass
This document summarizes a study that investigated substituting an ethanol extract of alfalfa for antibiotics in broiler chicken feed. Sixty broiler chicks were divided into three treatment groups: a control group and two groups fed diets with 0.1% or 0.15% alfalfa extract. Liver enzyme levels and weight gain were measured. While alkaline phosphatase levels increased significantly in the treatment groups, other liver enzymes did not change significantly. All treatment groups showed significant weight gain compared to the control. The study concluded that the alfalfa extract can promote weight gain in broilers without antibiotics and does not negatively impact liver function.

While the inclusion of phytases has become almost ubiquitous in monogastric feeding, both to release phosphorus and to reduce the anti-nutritive effect of phytate itself (superdosing), the use of enzymes to tackle issues associated with non-starch polysaccharides (NSP, i.e. fibre) remains the subject of much discussion. There is still no general consensus on how to achieve the greatest benefits with these enzymes, and the potential to incorporate them into a multi-enzyme dosing strategy has only added to the debate.

the brain, heart and ovary in all treated groups.

Our aim was to perform some biochemical and pharmacological studies of bioactive bovine placental preparation via digestion of cow placenta using enzyme contained in swine stomach. Amino acid compositions and contents in biologically active preparation of placenta, obtained by digestion of cow placenta with enzyme contained in swine stomach were measured by HPLC technique and it was found that contents of such amino acids as glycine, proline and lysine were highest and 9 essential amino acids, including valine, histidine, methionine, lysine, threonine, arginine, phenylalanine, leucine and isoleucine were measured. In pharmacological study, acute toxicity (LD50) of the preparation and effect of the preparation on immune response to sheep erythrocyte were investigated in white mice, weighing 18 to 20 g each. The study revealed acute toxicity (LD50) of the preparation was 60 ml per kg. Spleen index of the first and second experimental group animals treated by the preparation during both provoked and unprovoked immune responses increased by 1.2 to 3.09 times as compared to that of negative control animals, while splenocyte count elevated by 1.2 to 2.2 times than negative control animals. Higher contents of essential amino acids of the biologically active preparation of cattle placenta shows its biologically higher nutritive value, as well as pharmacological study reveals the preparation has minimal toxicity and higher effect to stimulate immune responses.

The present study evaluated serum lipid profiles and liver enzymes activities of male albino rats fed Lageneria sphaerica supplemented diet. A total of forty two rats were used for this study. The rats were separated into three groups of thirteen rats each. Group I was fed with normal rat chow, group II was fed with 60% sample and 40% normal rat chow while group III was fed with 30% sample and 70% normal rat chow respectively. There was a significant decrease in weight (P<0.05)><0.05)><0.05)><0.05) in the test groups. From the results obtained, Lageneria sphaerica seed is a probable toxic seed and may not be suitable for consumption unless appropriate detoxifying methods are applied.

Effect of Piper crocatum Extract Against Weight Loss and Liver Enzyme Levels ...iosrphr_editor
Piper crocatum is one of Indonesian medicinal plant that contain flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins. Aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of Piper crocatum aqueous extract against a decrease in body weight (BW) and the activity of enzymes involved in lipid metabolism (AMPK, ACC, FAS) in liver obese rats. This study used four groups of Sprague dawley rat (n = 6), including normal group (N), obese controls (OC), Piper crocatum extract dose 1260 mg/kgBW (PcA), and Piper crocatum extract dose of 1890 mg/kgBW (PcB). Measurement of metabolic liver enzyme levels (AMPK, ACC, FAS) are using ELISA kit (CusabioTM). Results of this study showed that the PcA group produce the highest reduction in body weight (4.52%), and the lowest levels of ACC (9.13 ng/g) and FAS (360.68 ng/g) which was significantly different from obese control group (95% CI). Piper crocatum extract can't activate AMPK. The highest levels in rat liver AMPK is in N group with 8.42 ng/g, but this value is not significantly different from other groups.

Objectives This study is aimed at investigating the effect of crude oil pollution on the phytochemical content and anti diabetic potentials of Oxytenanthera abyssinica rhizomes in normal and alloxan induced diabetic rats using standard methods. Method The ability of the extracts to reduce blood glucose level in normal rats was done using 200 and 400 mg kg b.w of non crude oil polluted Oxytenanthera abyssinica extract NCOPOAE and 200 and 400 mg kg b.w of crude oil polluted Oxytenanthera abyssinica extract COPOAE respectively. Alloxan monohydrate at 130 mg kg b.w was used to induce diabetes to rats and was treated with 100, 200 and 400 mg kg b.w of NCOPOAE and 100, 200 and 400 mg kg b.w of COPOAE respectively while phytochemical analysis was done following standard method. Results Oral glucose tolerance test revealed significant decrease in plasma glucose concentration p 0.05 in groups of rats fed 200 and 400 mg kg b.w of NCOPOAE at intervals of 30, 60 and 120 minutes while that of COPOAE, none significantly decreased the plasma glucose concentration, when compared with those of control groups. The extracts did not have any significant effect in alloxan induced diabetic model. Conclusion These results could indicate that crude oil pollution could affect the synthesis of phytochemicals in plants therefore affecting the ethnomedicinal potencies. It also shows that O. abyssinca rhizomes could be more potent in management of type 2 diabetes where the cells are resistant to insulin. Development of novel natural dietary adjunct/agent with significant therapeutic effects on metabolic disease conditions such as obesity and heart disease raises concern in recent times. We studied chronic toxicity of the combined active ingredients present in the sesame leaves and their interaction on the fasting serum lipid profiles with their ratios in thirty adult male non-obese Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. Such that, both treated groups received 14.0 and 28.0 mg/kg body weight doses of aqueous leaves extract of Sesamum radiatum respectively on a daily basis via gastric gavage, while, the control received equal volume of normal saline daily for six weeks. Significant (P < 0.05) weight loss observed in the treated groups was associated with significant (P < 0.05) reductions in both serum cholesterol and triglycerides (TG). The effect on the serum lipoprotein cholesterol components and ratios were significant in a dose related manner, such that increase in HDL accompanied a corresponding decrease in both LDL and LDL/HDL ratio. In addition, to increased in TG/HDL ratio. However, no significant differences in the relative reduction level of VLDL and triglycerides in the treated groups were found compared to control. Thus, LDL/HDL ratio is significantly a better indicator than the TG/HDL ratio in assessing the impact of sesame treatment with evidence of weight loss and hypolipidaemia especially in hypertensive heart diseases.

ABSTRACT: In recent years, due to ban or restriction of the use of antibiotics as feed additives in animal
feed, Use of additives such as probiotic and Phytobiotics as replacement combinations of antibiotics, special
attention to the animal husbandry industry and poultry industry has been. Results of some studies carried
out in Iran demonstrate the use of these additives in poultry nutrition order to increase the efficiency of their
production. A total of 60 male Ross broiler chicks were randomly divided into three treatment. Treatments
including : control, alfalfa 0.1%, alfalfa 0.15%. The None type of antibiotic that is used in the project and at
the end of the period of function indicators of liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP) was determined and the Body
weight was measured. Treatments for liver function marker enzymes have been shown to increase. But ALP
enzyme at P<0/01was significant andthe other two enzymes AST, ALT did not showed a significant increase.
In terms of weight gain in all groups compared with control group, a significant increase showed in the level
of P<0/001.The alcoholic extract of alfalfa replacing in the dose listed can without the use of antibiotics, to
gain weight, without any metabolic particular problem found during the rearing broiler chickens.

INTRODUCTION
Results of some studies in the world even in Iran,
Represents the possible use of the additives such as
extracts of medicinal plants in poultry feed in order to
increase the efficiency of produce them. In most
countries, including Iran, there is shortage of animal
protein, and it is significant damage to the health of
human society brings. Shortage of protein in the diet
can reduce the body's resistance to disease in human
and can be workforce reduction, reduce power mental
and physical wellbeing and increase the mortality rates.
Animal protein from milk, eggs, red and white meat
(chicken, fish, and shrimp) provided. Poultry, most
efficient way to convert agricultural byproducts and
waste into meat and eggs for human consumption
Therefore, growing of poultry and increase the products
is one of the most important and the most practical way
the providing of animal protein in our country. The
growing of poultry Industrial is developed, So that it is
able to consume more food with less cost to provide
population of our country. In Iran ready to cook poultry
to produce 2 million ton in years, the seventh of the
world's poultry producers (Al-Kassie, 2009).
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The scientific name of this method, extraction the
method of the solvent couch and solvent use is
industrial methanol 90%. Alfalfa plant at standard
conditions, under the shadow dried and then, extraction
was performed. The extract, by dissolving in water the
chickens were given. In order to solve the extract, the
extract was solved in equal volumes of medical alcohol
and then was dissolved in drinking water the chickens.
A. The plant scientific name
English name of this plant is Alfalfa and/or Lucerne,
and its scientific name is Medicago sativa.
B. Assessment liver Function
The liver, at two levels substances which originate
from the portal circulation removes and metabolizes.
The first level of the physical and Kupffer cells and
Phagocytosis of bacteria leads are done. The second
level of defensive is biochemical. In liver cells, there
are vast enzymes, which exogenous and endogenous
toxins are modified its and metabolites. These reactions
are divided into two major groups: Phase I reactions
include: oxidation, hydroxylation and other catalyze
reactions by Cytochrome p-450, and Reactions of Phase
II, which will be followed by subsequent reaction phase
I, That the products obtained with the other molecules,
Such as: Glucorunic acid, sulfate, amino acids, or
glutathione are conjugate Until increase repel them
(Maass, 2005).

One of the most important tests to evaluate the liver
function is liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP), When
hepatocytes died by necrotic response to inflammation
or infection, they released enzymes such as the alanine
aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase
(AST). These enzymes are readily measurable in serum,
When increased, shows the liver damage (Nobakht,
2010) In adult birds, alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
mainly stemmed from The liver. When the, the
chickens are growing, the most important its source
bone cells (Giannenas, 2010).
RESULTS
Data from experiments using a linear model ANOVA in
SPSS 16 was analyzed. Mean comparison was
performed by Dennett tests (Table 1). Average and
standard deviation of the dependent variable in the three
groups studied (liver enzymes).

The table above compares indicates the incidental result
of the analysis of variance table 2. Both the paired
comparison between experimental groups and control
groups in terms of liver enzyme ALP the level less than
0/05 is significantly.
Also the difference between the experimental group and
the control group in both the paired comparisons is
positive which indicates the degree of liver enzyme
ALP in each treatment groups in comparison with
control group has increased.

poultry performance in terms of weight gain; without
the acute liver toxicity and is a Perfect Alternative
Instead of antibiotics in the poultry industry.
