It is mostly set in late 1960 s Prague. The novel explores the state of life after the
Russian military occupation of Prague. The author does not follow a chronological
order throughout the novel, which is a reflection of how disorderly life is. It is a
time of conflict both spiritually and physically. People start to question the meaning
of lifeif there is any meaning at all. Kundera begins the novel by refusing both
Nietzsche s interpretation of eternal return and Parmenides classification of lightness
as positive and weight as negative. Then he argues the point that lightness is

The Monarch Era Of Britain
Since confederation in 1867, more than 17 million immigrants have landed in
Canada. Immigration policy back then was very different from now, of course. But
all of them have one thing in common. In order for them to become Canadian citizen
they must have swear an oath to Queen. I believe it is time for a change in the
system as Canadais completely different from back then. Using Canada itself as the
figure is more appropriate than the Queen, fit the constitution better, and supported by
our society structure. New citizen should swear a pledge to Canada, instead of an
oath to Queen.
In our current system, potential citizens are required to swear an oath to the
Queen under the Oaths of Allegiance Act, rewritten in 1985, required in the
Citizenship Act. This law roots back to the monarch era of the Great Empire of
Britain, specifically 1689 by King William II and III and Queen Mary II. Its
purpose was to secure the supremacy of the reigning monarch and in its colony,
including Canada. It found its way into our modern law system created in the
confederation of Canada in 1867. The oath had stayed the same for 150 years.
From a British colony to known for its multiculturalism and diversity with 20% of
immigrants representing its total population. Yet, Canadian immigrants still had to

A Comparison Of The Revenant And To Build A Fire
The movie The Revenant and the short story To Build a Fire, tell two different
stories, one holds a plot of revenge fueled by one mans love of his son. The other is
a simpler story of survival, or more appropriately a story of attempting to survive.
Looking at these stories from as simple a point of view as just plot, the reader or
viewer, would miss the undeniable similarities that these two stories share. These
stories share three main similarities which are, the main characters fight for survival,
the setting in which the story takes place, and the use of symbolism included in the
story.
In both stories the main characters face an unbelievable challenge of trying to survive
an incredible struggle. For Hugh Glass the main character of The Revenant he faces
this challenge multiple times within the movie. The unnamed man in To Build a
fire faces it once which is the main conflict in the story. Hugh first survives an
attack by the Ree by helping his crew of fur traders escape to the boat. The next
morning, he goes on a hunt and barely survives a bear attack. From then on out his
entire journey is a struggle to survive, as soon after, he is left for dead by the two
men who are left to look after him. The unnamed man s struggle while not as
monumental is still every bit as much a fight for survival. He falls through a thin
patch of ice into the water and must fight to build a fire to survive. Both men show a
large amount of resilience, in their fight to survive. The unnamed man
