A Reflection On Awakening Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting
In this paper, I will be writing about my reflection and reaction to an Upon Awakening Alcoholic
Anonymous meeting which was held at the Unity of Sedona Church, 65 Deer Trail in Sedona,
Arizona on Thursday, October 29, 2015. This meeting was held at 7:30 AM in the morning. The
meeting consisted of an eleven step grouping of middle aged men and women ranging from ages
30 to 65 years old. There were seven men and thirteen women whose purpose was to practice
prayer through the eleventh step of the Big Book. The meeting started out with an introduction of
everyone who was present. They stated their names and said they were alcoholics and how long
they had been sober. They continued to go over old business, and then proceeded to read from the
Alcoholics AnonymousBig Book, the Third Step Prayer. The prayer was about releasing one s self
of their bondage. A gong wash was performed, followed by fifteen minutes of meditation.
Participants came forward to share their reflection of the Third Step Prayer. Jean was the first
one to come forward to speak and her thoughts were; One s self must be the one to relieve the
bondage to and from one s self s defects. One must learn to discover, undercover, and discard one
s bondage by believing within. A woman named Deb got up and informed us that she was a servant
to her creativity. She claimed that she needed to find regularity and she welcomed discomfort.
Nancy didn t under stand the Third Step Prayer. She could not admit that she was

In early 1990 Somalia was going through a civil war. Their dictator Mohammed Farrah had
order the closer of all food transportation that entered the country. His goal was to kill his own
people by starving them to death. About 300,000 civilians had died of hunger. In response, the
united States send troops to Somalia to capture Mohammed Farrah, the self proclaimed president
of Somalia. They soon found out that the best strategic was to capture Omar Salad Elmi and
Abdi Hassan Awale Queybdiid, two of Mohammed top advisers. The special mission was to be
done by experienced man as well as new recruits. The operation was supposed to have taken about
an hour on October 3, 1993. Their objective was the two top advisers of Mohammed that were to be

Salad Elmi and Abdi Hassan Awale Queybdiid, two of Mohammed top advisers. After arriving at
their target building, they capture both of the advisors. As they departed, everything started to
fail. Communication was a huge role on why this mission turned out to be a rescue mission. As
they departed the target building to head back to the military base, both ground and air support,
suffered many injuires. After a few min a one of the two black hawks was shot down by a
grenade. Black Hawk Super 6 1 is hit by a rocket grenade and crashes five blocks away from the
target building. The mission then turned into a rescue mission to save the soldiers that were in
the black hawk. Soldiers had to walk to the crash site, which was a very dangerous mission to go
through since enemies were all over Mogadishu. As soldiers were on their way to crash number
one a second hawk was shot down. Black Hawk, Super 64, is hit by another Somali rocket
grenade, and crashes about a mile away from the target building. Bowden described the moments
that followed the crashed: [The pilot, Dan] Jollata could hear his rotor blades whistling. Shrapnel
from the blast had peppered them with holes. The aircraft sloshed

Semantics, Syntax, And Variation Of Language
When one takes an advanced grammar course, they are in for a new vision of learning and
understanding grammar. Most people are taught grammar as early as Elementary school, however,
they only recognize grammar for its functions in the written language and not the true meanings it
has on sentence structures and clauses. There are many views on the importance grammar usages.
Different Linguist has different theories. The two main grammar usages that are discussed are
Grammar Discourse and Cohesion. Linguisticsis the study of the nature, structure, and variation of
language that includes phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics ( Linguistics,
n.d., p. 1). In Linguistics, discourse is defined as a unit of text described by... Show more content on

124). Larger clauses that makeup of many sentences are considered linguistic items. Many books,
stories, poems, and even lectures include linguistic items. Many clauses in a story make up
language or utterances. Being able to distinguish the utterance in a lecture or story will help the
listener identify if the material is complete or incomplete. Texts consist of longer sentences that
would make it hard for the reader to clarify the subject in one sentence. Stages in narratives help the
linguist point out the events in the story. The stages breakdown the settings, events, and
resolution of the narrative. The structural scheme is identified, and all the stages of the narrative
can be put into the correct order ( Test and Discourse, 2007, p. 7). Grammar and discourse can
sometimes be two different types of communication, but they can compliment each other. Mira
Ariel described grammar and discourse as Grammar specifies a set of language codes and guides
speakers on how to properly construct sentences, which are then conjoined by entirely different
discourse principals into a coherent piece of discourse (Ariel, 2009, p. 5). Not all texts are of equal
value as some contains salient information that brings the story to its climax. Salient text consists of
main line verb clauses. Longacere calls this method of discourse salient system.

Disadvantages Of Hair Removal
Advantages of Epilating When you think about hair removal, what are the first methods that pop in
mind? Shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis? One of the least discussed methods of hair
removal is epilating. Lets take a look at epilating compared to other methods of hair removal.
Shaving
Shaving is probably the most common method of hair removal. A disposable razor is worth mere
pennies, and are often not sold for much more than a few dollars. Electric razors are often
pricier, and then you need to buy new blades for it anyways. In addition to not breaking the bank,
most people first learn to shave with a disposable razor and may not ever upgrade to an electric
razor. Shaving is cost effective and familiar. However, shaving may be one of the most annoying
and inefficient methods of hair removal out there. Shaving cuts the hair that is poking above the
skin, meaning that the root is still intact. With an intact root, the hair will grow back within
days. In fact, according to this British study, women spend 1,728 hours shaving over the course
of their lives, Huffington Post reports. This study also says that the average British woman
shaves for 4 minutes, 6 days a week. Shaving is undoubtedly an inefficient form of hair removal
if it has to be done almost every day because of how quickly hair stubble grows back. Shaving
also blunts the ends of the hair, which can cause it to curl inwards and create ingrown hairs. If
that doesn t happen, the hair follicles can become irritated and develop razor burn. If neither of
these happen, you could accidentally nick yourself with the razor, which could lead to an
unsightly gash or scar. All of these are reasons why shaving is not an ideal form of hair removal,
and epilating improves on every single one of these problems. Epilating rips hair out by the root,
similar to waxing. Since the root of the hair is gone, it needs to reform before hair can grow
again. This takes weeks, depending on the individual. Using an epilator cuts down on your hair
removal time by large chunks. Although ingrown hairs can form with an epilator, it is rarer than it
is with shaving. Since the hair is growing back from scratch it is possible for it to grow sideways,
causing an

Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto
Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010)
Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto.
In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I
have chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states
look after the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main
ideas that stood out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why
I think they are the three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has
communicated very well.
Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . Marx opens his Manifesto with the
line The history of all hitherto existing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are never really major reforms to help all, after revolutions. The bourgeoisie, in France, had
been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power.
During the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise
afterwards as stated by Marx:
The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done
away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression,
new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74)
Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always
last. The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the
bourgeois and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics
have a massive hold on where the power in societies

Essay about Funeral
Funeral Personal Narrative I gaze around. I see one family, brought together, to mourn for one of
our own. Countless numbers of dark figures stand on parade, speaking in unison to pay our
respects to one whom we adore. The sadness corrupts my inner soul and my heart bleeds a river
inside. Nothing could change the wretchedness I feel. We leave, what seems to me, not a holy
church, but more of a devil s palace. But the worst is yet to come. Still shedding tears I climb into
the hearse, my eyes fixed upon the noble man in the back, in the vain hope that there would be life
in him once again. It is useless. I stare outside in the deepest of depression, worrying about the road

Our car reduces speed and the driver climbs out. I think to myself, This is no gate . A gate would
be an astonishing gift to me right now. The only thing I can do now is pray and hope. To pray
that I will not have to go through this anguish, suffering and endless hell once again. In one
sudden movement, my hopes and dreams are crushed into minute pieces of terror and misery, as
the hearse driver opens the door. Resistance is pointless. We are already here. A foot away from
the gates of fire. I push open the gate upon its rusty hinges. Though, I know, cemeteries are
supposed to be depressing and solemn places, this is out of the ordinary. I am welcomed by an
old, decrepit yet elegant chapel, that has been abused by weather and man, but preserved and
decorated by Mother Nature. Ivy droops over the freestanding wall and fades away into the
rubble and ruins. Through a slight crack in the wall I see the remains of a derelict altar. I
continue on, picking up my drained feet off the grassy surface from under them. They are
comforted by the pleasantness of a spongy carpet of autumn leaves. A mosaic of infinite colors. A
mild breeze slithers past my face and cools me throughout as we enter a kingdom of beauty. My
eyes ascend up into the branches of an oak that has past its prime, but nothing can steal the

Informative Essay On American Football
American football is an amazing sport to watch or play that teaches you a lot of life lessons.
Football is a very challenging sport to play. I am going to be talking about the History and who

get ready to learn. The history of footballtraced by to the 1880s. Football traces back to the 1880
s. It is based off of rugby which is very similar to football but a lot different a the same time. In
1869 the first actual game of football was played which was Princeton vs. the Rutgers but it
wasn t until 1880 that Walter Camp, a rugby player out of Yale created the rules. Football had
some bumps when it first began from the Amateur Athletic Union but got it all settled out and
before you know it the first paycheck was given out in the late 1890 s. After that, more and more
paychecks were handed out and they kept getting bigger and bigger. Now football is one of the
most popular sports in America and has it s own television network. Football has many different

Benito Mussolini
The interwar period was perhaps the most lethal, with multiple fascist uprisings in Europe, and
with them the rise of sports, especially football, as a political tool. Benito Mussolini capitalized
on the fact that the 1934 World Cup was to take place in Italy, by drawing on the athletic imagery
of the Roman Empire, where Mussolini himself chose the referees for each game, culminating in
the Italians bringing the trophy home that year (Duffy, 2003). Jules Rimet, president of FIFA,
remained seated when the Italian national team gave the fascist salute to Mussolini after the game
(Eisenberg, 2005). The 1936 Olympics were awarded to Berlin as compensation for the cancelled

On September 8th, 1939, the FA announced that all football, except that organized by the military,
was to be halted until official notice to the contrary (Mason, A. n.d. 10 Facts... ). Contrary to 1914
with the onset of World War I
, when professional football had continued for the first year of war,
England recognized that the threat coming from Nazi Germany s invasion of Poland just a week
earlier on September 1st, was much more imminent (Whitlock, 2016). Unfortunately, the English
people realized that football would be the only constant left for them in this war torn environment
and therefore protested heavily against this ban. There were two problems with the fans
complaints: first, the government had imposed a 50 mile traveling limit on railroads because
they were needed to move military supplies and soldiers, and second, that there was a limit of
only 8,000 people per stadium due to threats of Nazi bombardments (Whitlock, 2016).
Nevertheless, the FA managed to put together several regional leagues across the country that
evaded these restrictions and solved the problem of many footballers themselves being drafted into
military service. This was difficult in itself, however, because after the Luftwaffe s first bombing
raid on London, July 10, 1940, many historic English stadia were damaged or

Occupational Therapy History
Occupational Therapy, as defined by WFOT is a client centered health profession concerned with
promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is
to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this
outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the
occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the
environment to better support their occupational engagement . Knowing the definition of
Occupational Therapyis vital to understanding the history of it, and how far this field has evolved
over the years.
From the 1700 s to the 1800s, the moral treatment movement began, and was led by Phillippe Pinel

Scientifically, there is no obstacle for a nuclear or atomic bomb. There are no secrets in Nuclear
Science anymore. Anyone with a reasonable physics degree and access to a good technical library
could design a workable atomic bomb in less than 6 months, so why hasn t anyone. Maybe there
has been, no one is exactly sure. In the last 52 years there has been enough nuclear warheads made
to destroy every city in the world and still have thousands left over.(Church 40) This all happened
during the Cold War, a period of 45 years

In 1953 the Russians did it too (thanks to the Rosenberg s). In 1958 the United States,

Then the Cuban Missile Crisis happened. This event was the closest we have ever come to a
nuclear war. This event it really kind of woke the United States and
Soviet Union up about what could happen. Because of this a direct phoneline was set up between
the Kremlin and the white house.
The main question today is who has control of the weapons. The former superpower Russia is in
political turmoil. Now instead of two people with their hands on the button there could be dozens!
Even the Central Intelligence Agency director John Deutch said he is afraid of loose nukes being
smuggled out of
Russia.(McGirk 35) The United States is in pretty good condition because not much nuclear waste

Protests against racial insensitivity that began at the University of Missouri last week have

rallies to call attention to their own university issues regarding race. Specifically, rallies were held
on Wednesday at Ithaca College in New York and Smith College in Massachusetts. Following the
University of Missouri s removal of their president, an interim president has been appointed, Mr.
Michael Middleton another administrator who is of African Americanrace. As news of this new

across the nation have started planning solidarity protests for this coming week.
The hierarchical diffusion of racial injustice on college campuses has spread quickly within the

immediate change. Popular culture is defined as the rapidly changing tastes, customs, and attitudes

The book does not give an exact location of where the story took place. From what I gathered
throughout the book the Garner family lives in a large wooded area so they can raise farm

The main character of the book is Luke Garner. He is a 12 year old boy with brown hair and

population police will take your kid and put you in jail. Luke is a third child which makes him

SHOULD MALE PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES BE PAID MORE THAT FEMALE ATHLETES?
Toady sports is viewed by fans all around the world rather it being basketball, football, or baseball.
Sports has become more of a gender controversial topic than simply enjoying the excitement of
the players doing what they love to do so well. Women athletes are generally under paid
compared to the men s salaries in various sports do to the lack of viewers. Women sports doesn t
generate enough revenue, so the leagues can t afford to pay the women as much as the men in

Hand Hygiene Research Paper
Introduction
The dirtiest thing you own maybe your cell phone. Imagine what touches your phone the most,
probably your hands and face. Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most
helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens
everywhere today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria
associated with health care associated infections, Karabay states, Our study reveals that mobile
phones may get contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and
Klebsiella pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread

These microorganisms are transmitted from poor hand hygiene from health care workers to patients
as well as touching of contaminated equipment and environmental surfaces. Microorganisms are
most commonly introduced to susceptible sites such as open wounds or other portals of entry by
contaminated hands. Infection leads to adverse clinical outcomes and can directly threat patient
recovery.
Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that
healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some
of the barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks,
insufficient time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some
solutions they explain to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where
sinks are not around and placing them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can
be a suitable way for proper hand hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also
describe, Involve staff in trying several alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and
involve employee health services in creating a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff.
Alcohol based sanitizers that have lotion in them can be helpful for staff who have very sensitive
skin (Hass amp; Larson, 2009).

In the year of 1848, about 240 men and women combines attended the Seneca Falls Convention.
They voted for decisions that demanded equality for women at work, at school, and at church.
There was only one decision at the convention that met with any resistance, and this was
demanding the women a right to vote. But, after hesitation and bold reformers, the decision nearly
passed. After 1848, women worked for change in many areas. They fought for additional legal
rights in some states and won the battle. For instance, in New York, the city passed a laws allowing
married women to keep their own property and wages once they married. Although this law passed,
many men and women opposed the women s rights movements and the struggle for equal rights

Everyone who lived during the Elizabethan Era knew these laws and failure to follow them resulted
in fines, lose of property, title, and life (Elizabethan Costume). Since in English society clothing
was a huge factor it ended up affecting costumes that were used in theatre. Next, actors had to
abide by the sumptuary laws even while performing on stage. Therefore the second a performer
walked onto the stage the audience could tell their role in the play just by looking at the color of
the costume. The Material and Fabric also had a similar effect, the audience could tell what
class the character was in by the quality of their costume and also it gave important information
on that individual s role (Elizabethan Actors). Queen Elizabeth I had to give actors special
licenses to wear upper class clothes to fit their character or position (Globe Theatre Costume).
When nobility or upper class people would come to see a play they would say it was like a
double fashion show. The fabric and color of a person s garments represented different pieces of
information about them and since clothing was part of society and law everyone knew what the
color or material meant. Lastly, each color, during this era, had a meaning and also represented
which class a person was in. Elizabethan clothing, material, and fabrics used in Elizabethan Era was
extremely important because clothes represented more than just how you looked it demonstrated

For the majority of earthquake travel insurance policies, they will include emergency medical and
emergency evacuation if a person gets injured during an earthquake. Another one of the benefits of
having earthquake travel insurance is that if there were an earthquake prior to the flight, depending
on the policy, an individual can cancel his trip or even return home early. Normally, a policy
requires that the person was directly affected by the earthquakefor coverage, and his current

Advantages Of Tourism In The Bahamas
The tourism industry today is a big business for a country, it is the number one industry of The
Bahamas. It is the migration of individuals from one place to another for a short period of time.
Tourism in The Bahamas accounts for seventy percent of the country s national income and
employs fifty percent of the population. Tourismis further considered the main source of The

bad.
According to the Research Statistics Department of the Ministry of Tourism some of the advantages
of tourism in The Bahamas includes the provision of jobs for the Bahamian people. Some of these

throughout the season, the low hanging of pants and the wearing of caps with tags still on them are

Pros And Cons Of Command Economic System
Economic Systems
In today s world, we are faced with the everyday question of what the best way to run an
economy is. There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that
adjusts to the needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the
people create ideas and product and keep control. However, there has yet to be the perfect system
that comes with less risk than potential, and it is most likely that there will never be a system
where cons are not attached to the pros. Command, Market, and occasionally Traditional are the
three main types of economies we see today, and each one offers a different set of positives that
the others can t. An idea that has always been represented in the world has been a command
economy. This is an economic system in which a central power holds control of the economy, and
regulates it. Countries like Cuba, China, and North Korea practice this economy in forms of
communism. Socialism can fall under this category as well, however as it requires a government ...

The governments of these economies limit regulations and provide a large amount of economic
freedom. Countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and the United States each have their
own version of a market economy. Because of the economic freedom, these countries are very
strongly business centered and run off of the motivation of their citizens working their way to the
top, or being able to have a family. Economic efficiency and growth are also major factors, and the
state of the economy relies heavily on these things in order to be the best it can be. The tradeoff,
however, is that the governments cannot guarantee that citizens needs will be met. With freedom,
there will be a large lack of equity as many citizens won t achieve. Countries like the United States
attempt to have security nets in place to help, but these can only stretch so

The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl
The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters
are from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them
out of their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito.
One day Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment,
so they go and try to find a pearlto then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent,
shiny, big, and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the
pearl buyers will buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I
think what drives Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being
cheated with the value of the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To
begin, what drives Kino is fear of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the
pearl to supply all the things he desires. First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is
worth more than what the pearl buyers are willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can
give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he
said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is
worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct amount of money for the pearl. Following,

Privatization of Social Services Essay
The Benefits of Privatization of Social Services
Contracting out is the process through which public organizations contract with private sector
organizations to provide services normally provided by public agencies. It is a form of
privatization, which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private
sector, more specifically, the shift of production of goods or servicesfrom public to private. (Starr,
5) Privatization reduces the role of government and increases the role of private sector agencies.
However, public agencies maintain ultimate control over the provision of services and they control
government funding.

Like most public agencies, DPSS operates under the elite model of organizational structure. This
structure dictates that formal rules and process are followed in order to reach the organization s
goals. Therefore, in order to effectively contract out and maintain and effective organization,
management must engage in the practice of well known management principles (POSDCORB).
Practicing the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and
budgeting, management can make sound decisions about the implementation and management of
contracts. The effectiveness and efficiency in which the agency is run and the manner in which the
contract is managed is grounded in the effective practice of these principles.
In this research paper I will discuss the process of contracting out, issues of cost, credibility,
accountability, and quality and quantity of services. My discussion will also include reasons for
contracting out, opposition, and advantages and problems of contracting out.
REASONS FOR CONTRACTING OUT

To obtain special skills or supplemental staff.
To meet demands beyond current government capacity.
To improve service quality.
To provide clients with more choice of providers and levels of service. (Nightingale

To improve the ovens, fire chambers were invented that contained the wood fire, and holes were
built into the top of these chambers that cooking pots with flat bottoms could be placed directly
upon replacing the cauldron. Around 1728, cast iron ovens began to be made in quantity. These
first ovens of German design were called Five plate or Jamb stoves. Around 1800, Benjamin
Thompson invented a working iron kitchen stove called the Rumford stove that was designed for
very large working kitchens. However, the Rumford stove was too large from the average kitchen
and inventors continued to improve their designs. Cast iron stoves continued to evolve, with iron
gratings added to the cooking holes, and added chimneys and connecting flue pipes. Jordan Mott
invented the first practical coal oven in 1833. British inventor, James Sharp patented a gas oven in
1826, the first semi successful gas oven to appear on the market. It was not until the late 1920s
and early 1930s that electric ovens began to compete with gas ovens, however, electric ovens were
available as early as the 1890s. Some historians credit, Canadian Thomas Ahearn with inventing the
first electric oven in 1882. The Carpenter Electric Heating Manufacturing Company invented an

Comparing the Economic Performance of South and North Korea
Introduction An economic system of a county is a system for producing, distributing as well as
consuming goods and services. It includes a combination of various agencies, institutions, entities
and consumers, which constitute the economic structure of a particular community, or society.
Both North and South Korea have different economic systems. Collectivist Economy Collectivist
economy is a type of economy which advocates for collective control over production, as well as
distribution. It puts a lot of emphasis on collective action rather than individual action. Another
name for collectivist economy is communism economy. Apart from North Korea, other collectivist
economies include Japan and Indonesia. Economic System in South Korea The economic system of
South Korea is a capitalist economy. This is where the economy is characterized by free markets, as
well as the absence of government intervention with regard to the country s economy. One of the
key characteristic of a capitalist economic system is the ability of firms and private individuals to
accumulate capital and property in the economy of a country. In reality, capitalist economic system
will require some government intervention, mainly to protect private property. Capitalist economic
system in South Korea is a self supporting and does not need government intervention and
implementation. This is because of the private sector and private ownership running the economy.

Jazz has always been a part of the American tradition. Some may say they like Jazz for its

All in all, Jazz has been an American staple and has molded today s popular music, into what it is
today. It s very different from classical music, which is written out and strict. Jazz is much more. It s
made up of spontaneity and improvisation, which makes up an idea on the spot. There are many
wide varieties in Jazz. There is Bebop Jazz, Avante Garde Jazz, Acid Jazz, Free Funk Jazz, Soul
Jazz, Swing Jazz, and many, many more! These forms of Jazz can be seen and heard in some of

to why this genre contributes to the growing of music. We first take a look into the root of all
Jazz. In the late 1800 s and early 1900 s, the country of Africa was the first known country to use
rhythm primarily for the element of musical expression, and ensembles composed entirely of
percussion instruments created extended polyrhythmic works. These polyrhythms, which means
the layering of multiple rhythms. , were record in Western music. African music did not use paper,
or sheet music. Instead, they relied on Aural rituals, learned by ear and also used spontaneity,
which is later said to be known as improvisation . In Africa, most of the music that was expressed

Robert Cohn Quotes
Ernest Hemingway was born in 1899 and The Sun Also Rises was originally published in 1926.
During this time period, post war Europe was especially hesitant toward immigrant populations
and the dislike of Jews was common around the world. Hemingway used real life experiences and
people as inspiration for characters, setting and plot in the novel and supposedly created the main
character, Jake Barnes, as himself. In the Sun Also Rises, the anti semitic attitudes expressed
toward Robert Cohn reflect Hemingway s personal anti semitic beliefs, which were a product of
his time. Many aspects of Robert Cohn s character are stereotypical. One trait often found in
stereotypical Jewish characters is their fascination with money. Hemingway makes remarks
throughout the novel to imply that Cohn is always concerned with getting his money s worth, and
is only interested in arguments or sporting events if there s money involved. Cohn sent a telegram
to Jake and Bill during their fishing trip saying VENGO JUEVES COHN. Jake replies: What a
lousy telegram!... He could send ten words for the same price (Hemingway 119), implying that
Cohn was overly concerned with money. The classic Jewish... Show more content on

might be a fictional construct, created by the anti semitism of Jake and his crowd, attached to
actual Jews; Jews are made into the people whom the lost characters of The Sun Also Rises can

The Disciple Of Jesus By Simon Peter
Simon Peter is undoubtedly the best known disciple of Jesus. But how well known is he, really?
Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself,
Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning rock. This at least was
his nickname in Aramaic the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of
the New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name,
Peter. The name Simon Peter, then, literally means Simon the Rock. Given
Simon s impetuous and unfailingly fickle character during Jesus lifetime, one almost wonders if
Jesus was being ironic.
But back to the previous question: how well do we know Peter from our surviving sources? It is
much to be regretted that there isn t anything like a full biography of him written by any of his
peers, even though a number of ancient accounts narrate what he allegedly said and did, both
during Jesus lifetime and afterward. In his book, The New Testament: A Historical
Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, Bart D. Ehrman stated, One of the difficulties
confronting historians is knowing which of these accounts, if any of them, can be trusted as
historically accurate and which were colored by the legendary impulses prevalent among
Christian storytellers of the first several centuries. Ehrman believes the problem involves not only
the legends found outside the canonical writings of the New Testament

Elitism In Government
The ability to compel another person to comply with one s intentions is known as power. Authority
is a form of power that takes its force from legitimacy, political authority that is assigned by the law
or the state through legal documents. The government is an institution that is based upon authority.
There are various ways in which authoritycan be conferred upon a governmental institution and
many opinions on how it should be used. Thomas Jefferson states that a good governmentshould be
considerate of the people s needs, and should concern itself with protecting its citizens without
interfering with citizens personal affairs. According to this interpretation, the government must be

In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian
politics generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The
people have more power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader.
Meanwhile, elitism occurs when public opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater
freedom to act in self interest. There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes
power as being in the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by
American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control and are
served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media and wealthy members of
society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of power and hand behind
administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst
themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various
powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of
the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation between
various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self interest.
Although a self interested government does not necessarily dictate that policies will be
unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson
held for government. A majoritarian government is best suited to Jefferson s idea of

Sandburg s poems, he seems to use the phrase The People in more macrocosmic terms. In his
poems, there seems to always be a flow of people when trying to focus on a particular group of
people or person. Sandburg refers to the unknown solider and the millions of names too many to

GDP, on top of having several different components, has a few different ways in which it
measures output. Two different measurements that are widely used are Nominal GDP and Real
GDP. The main difference between nominal GDP and real GDP is that nominal GDP doesn t
adjust for inflation and real GDP does. 2 While real GDP is adjusted for differences in price
levels, nominal GDP when calculated is not and, as a result, will often appear higher and can be
misleading. With measurements that require adjustments, one will always encounter
discrepancies. Gross domestic input or GDI measures the sum of all income earned while
producing goods and services within a nation s borders. 3 The difference between GDI and GDP
is that GDI calculates economic activity based on income, and GDP calculates economic activity
based on spending. While they are similar, the two measurements use different methods to gauge
the economy and thus, the data collected by GDP and GDI will almost never be the same.

Germany Vs Usaaf Case Study
During the Second World War, the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF)

These strategists thought shaped British aerial warfare policy. For example, Douhet says, bombing
objectives should always be large; small targets are unimportant and do not merit our attention

British focused on morale of German workers. The British bombing campaign was chiefly waged
by night by large numbers of heavy bombers. British knew that to influence into deep Germany
territory was tough and daylight precision bombing had also much more difficulties. In addition,
Royal Air Force s accuracy in bombing was very low during the interwar period. For instance, in

Having depression since middle school, I have always had issues coping and keeping my
emotions under control. In high school I finally got the help I thought I needed. Going to my
doctor and having her prescribe me pills that, I hoped would help, made me feel like I was
finally in control of my sadness. Depression makes you feel hopeless, unworthy of life, and
many other emotions. You feel as if you are never good enough and you would be better off if
you just ended your sad story of a life. Once I started taking my daily dosage of the medication I
noticed that they were not working. My doctor gave me higher dosages in hopes I would start
feeling them work.
I noticed the pills affecting me but not in the way I had wished for. I felt as if I was blank and
emotionless. The pills made me feel dull and the actually made my depression worse. My
personality had vanished and I could no longer be myself. I have had multiple people come up to
me and tell me that I am a drag and that I bring down everyone in the room. They do not realize
how much that hurts someone who is battling themselves every moment they are awake. I have
tried the medication, the therapy, and staying positive but they have never been enough for my

The Dictators Discover Sport By John Dewey
PHIL 2020H Take Home Exam
John Dewey was an American philosopher, psychologist, professor, and an activist in several
social movements. Dewey influenced almost all branches of philosophy, and he is regarded as
one of the 20th Century s premier philosophers. One of Dewey s primary field of study was his
work in education, he focused on a child centered democratic approach to schooling and believed in
interdisciplinary ideas, valued student input, and recognized the importance of a forward thinking
teacher.
Dewey has a particularly interesting understanding of what defines freedom. It is necessary
beforehand to understand his idea of social control in an educating environment. Dewey believes
that the teacher should be a member of the group, but function as a coach or a referee by teaching
students how to interact with each other and form a community. Sometimes, however, this would
imply that teachers need to take away the student s temporary freedom as a sacrifice to give them
the overall freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Dictators Discover Sport exhibits a complete lack of freedom, not only do the countries have
heavily regulated policies, the way sports is condoned is such that the athletes are worked into the
ground, and they are taught to treat sport as a national honour . The athletes don t have the time to
consider rebelling because they are strong armed into a consistent exercise schedule, and they are
unknowingly participating in army training, as they re being used as an instrument by the dictators.
Plato s Republic Book III , conversely, describes a society that has regulations on fitness activities
but in a contradictory manner, meaning to say that exercise should be limited as strengthening the
mind takes precedence. When Dewey s understanding of freedom is applied to both contexts, then
freedom only exists in Republic Book

Summary Of The Shame Of College Sports
Taylor Branch constructed an essay, The Shame of College Sports, arguing for corruption to end
in collegiate sports. In his essay, Branch begins with the creation of the NCAA and how it
became so powerful. But, the NCAA couldn t hold all of the revenue because the big time
colleges felt they deserved more money for bringing in the revenue in the first place. After colleges
started to abide by the eat what they kill mentality, big colleges started to start making undesirable
decisions in order to get more funding for their schools. The examples listed by Branch include:
under the table monetary compensation to bride high school athletes, pay to play funds to give
athletes money while they played, and allowing academically challenged athletes

Analysis Of Fog Falling On Cedars
Taking Flight I sit in this AP Language and Composition class trying to decipher the essence of the
unending annotations and floods of random texts for the past quarter. Little did I know that I
would be taking flight and soaring through the smallest details and threads of literary devices and
techniques of analyzing language. Before this class, I looked at a book, aware that it was filled with
potential symbolism and crucial themes that were definitely worth considering. Yet, I often paid
far less attention to the way words are crafted in efforts to create a beautiful masterpiece. Who
knew that the jargon used in Snow Falling on Cedars could significantly shape the overall tone of
the book? From the years leading up to this class, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story
or poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new
perspective on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes
the voice of the book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal
connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty
recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an
interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in
their taking on direction, movement, development, change...each trip made its particular
revelation, though I could not have found words for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter
two, learning to see when reading requires looking closely at the small details and soaking it in, in
a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one starts to carefully listen and look at the
fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their own voice, which leads into the next
chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to explore their own inner being. Welty
best describes her encounter of this by explaining my imagination takes its strength and guides its
direction from what

Star Wars Nonverbal Communication
Throughout the movie of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith you can see a plethora of examples of
interpersonal communication between the due of Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. The
major three that are seen throughout the film are conflict, emotions, and their nonverbal
communication. The conflict is the most serious compenment in this movie because you can sense
the conflict that is brewing, and when it explodes, it is massive. The conflict that is used in this
film is what makes the emotions of the film so exuberant. Then with these two characters being
together as master and apprentice in the two previous films of the trilogy their non verbal
communication is key to their relationship. Being able to have good interpersonal communication
is key to any duo, and Obi Wan and Anakin show that they have this chemistry.
A major concept throughout the movie is the conflict that goes on between the characters of Obi
Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Described by Floyd (2017), as an expressed struggle between
interdependent [parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from
one another (p. 343). There are many characteristic of interpersonal conflict, a few include, conflict
is natural, conflict can direct and indirect, and conflict can be harmful and beneficial. Sex, gender,
and culture are just some of the many things that can affect an interpersonal conflict. Another major
aspect of conflict is power, which comes in many forms (Floyd, 2017).

Toy Safety Standards And Regulations
The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy
industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for
toys is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the
Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toyindustry to predict demand
during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Legos largest competitors
are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego s net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive
24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%,
respectively.
Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered
a manufacturing, or secondary, industry.
The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any
toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a
Children s Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children s Product
Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions.
Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don t make and
noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each
applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard.

Literary Analysis Of August Strindberg s Play Miss Julie
To set up the tone, content, and structure of this sociological analysis of August Strindberg s play
Miss Julie, the following two quotes will be compared and contrasted. One from German
economist, philosopher, and promenade socialist, Karl Marx and another from author, actor, and
theatrical theorist, Jeremy Rockwood. The first quote comes to us from Marx s Manifesto of the
Communist Party, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles,
(Lermert 43). The second from Rockwood s book The Craftsmen of Dionysus: An Approach to
Acting, An exact duplication of real life is not the purpose of the theatre nor of any art. In order to

No, thank you! Then I have something better myself. Following this he pulls out a bottle of wine
referring to it as pure. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as
a symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is
commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social
stratification, where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict.
Stratification is present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large
and small sides of the scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to
narrow the social position of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages
the system in place was the Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the
peasants had the least, in between were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed
further classifications, within the peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen,
serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood
was commenting on the intent of naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose,
he proposes, is that they are meant to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it.
The job of an artist is to take their observations

Consumer Buying Behavior And Demographics Like Age, And...
According to Investopedia, market arbitrage can be defined as buying and selling the same item
in different marketplaces so at to profit from a difference in price between the two markets. An
arbitrageur (a person involved in arbitrage) buys a lower priced item and short sells the higher
priced one. The spread between the two becomes his profit.
How to apply market arbitrage on eBay.com.au
Arbitrage is undoubtedly one of the ways of making money online. Before we even delve into its
application on eBay.com.au, it is important to note that eBay.com has a Market Data Program. This
program provides data on the items that are purchased on eBay.com and gives insight into the
consumer as well. This data is crucial for every arbitrageur, as it will help them:
explore the pricing of the products that they may intend to re sell on ebay.com.au
understand consumer buying behavior and demographics like age, and gender
identify market gaps, that is, where there are supply constraints
make informed decisions on the products that will sell fast
know the best time of the day and week to sell
know how shipping costs may affect the sale price
get to know the target market in general
It is therefore safe to say that before you even think about how to apply arbitrage on eBay.com.au,
you must access the Market Data Program, and study as well as analyze it keenly.
It is important to note that the best way to make money on eBay.com.au is by buying elsewhere

Impact Of Beethoven On The Development Of The Symphony...
Discuss the impact of Beethoven on the development of the symphony until Mahler. Difficult as it
may be to define the true relationship of an artist to his successors, this difficulty is enormously
increased when the subject is as complex a man and musician as Beethoven. His role as both a
preserver of the eighteenth century tradition1 and a pioneer of romantic self expression, has
secured his status as one of the most revered composers in the history of Western music.
Throughout his symphonic cycle, Beethoven s own journey of self discovery can be very clearly
heard. The Third, Fifth, Sixth and Ninth symphonies were particularly pioneering; they used new
ideas such as programme music, orchestral and symphonic expansion and the prolongation of
dissonance, inspiring a new generation of romantic symphonists. However, there is an equally
strong argument, suggesting that musical fashion and history had turned away from Beethoven
towards the end of his life. In the music of his immediate contemporaries, with the exception of
Schubert perhaps, his work hardly played a vital force and it was not until the latter half of the 19th
century that his influence began to dominate the musical scene. Composers such as Brahms and
Bruckner developed the motivic and intrinsically musical ideas in Beethoven s music whilst others
such as Berlioz, Liszt, Mahler and Wagner embraced the extra musical programmatic ideas.
Through an extension of Beethoven s work in both of these strands, his legacy

Samurai Vs Medieval Knights Essay
The Japanese Samurai and Medieval Knights are very similar, on many levels. They both have a
Code of Conduct, similar training techniques and they both play a vital role in the feudal system.
They also have a few differences, their armour and their weapons; when everything is taken into
consideration, they are more similar than they are different.
There were many similarities and differences between the Japanese samurais and the medieval
knights training, amour and codes of conduct. The medieval knights start training at the age of 7
and roughly finish the age of 21. The Japanese samurais started training at the of 5 and roughly
finished at the age of 15. One of the differences between the Japanese samurai and the medieval
knights was their armour. The amour between knights and samurais were very different. Knights

One of the similarities between the Samurai and the knight in their roles in the community, Japanese
samurais had to fight in wars, obey and defend the shoguns or their country. Medieval knights had
to fight in wars and be the king s personal weapon. ( ????) . This shows that in their communities
both samurais and knights main role was to protect and defend their leader. Another similarity
between the two. The Damiyos would promise rewards to the samurais with salaries or gifts,
including portions of land; in return, the samurais promised to protect there country. () The knights
would pledge their allegiance and serve the Lord in exchange for accommodation, payment and
gifts. These gifts also included land. As you can see that the roles the Japnese samurais played
within there community were extremely similar to the roles the medieval knights played in their
community.

The United States Health Care Public Safety Essay
Background The United States health care public safety net system largely provides healthcare
services to the uninsured and the under insured. However, this vulnerable population still cannot
access adequate care and compared to the privately insured population, the uninsured receive less
preventative and specialty health care services. The need for safety net providers to improve the
delivery and access to care has led to increased funding through the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) as well the expanded community health centers (CHCs)
(HealthCare.gov, 2010). Following the passage of the PPACA and increased federal support for
the CHCs, the American public health care system witnessed significant changes. Some of these
changes include increased access to healthcare, restructurings of private health coverages and
containing Medicaid and Medicaid (). One of the key provisions of the PPACA was to extend
health care coverage to the uninsured population in the country. Among the most affected are the
safety net providers whose sole objective is to provide healthcare services to the uninsured
Americans. These providers of last resort have played a critical role in ensuring that even the most
vulnerable persons access basic healthcare. Nevertheless, as previous research has shown, access to
preventative and specialty care among the uninsured still remains a challenge. Very few studies
have identified how safety net providers have impacted maternal and infant

Barro s Business Analysis
The success of Camp Bow Wow first and foremost provided a much needed service for pet

owners and where to locate their target audience. They focused on franchise owners that would
be a good fit for Camp Bow Wow. In the video, it states women are quite advantageous to the
company, not necessarily single but those without children, women who love their pets and seem
to treat their pets as their furry children. According to the video, the owners and operators
believed in their business, concept, leadership, and service provided to customers. A local
business that I am quite familiar with is Barro s Pizzeria. While they do have three locations in
California, there are 38 locations in the East Valley in Arizona. This is a restaurant my family and I
frequent on at least a monthly basis. This company has the most authentic Italian pizzaour family as

Red Dog Analysis
In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea
of change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the
audience to convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape
meaning of change. In red dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people
around him, strengthening the theme of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog
(2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle
ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s life, and the people around him, especially
Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too. The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted
when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm with her family. The audience
sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and impacts the rest of the story.
The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the theme of loss. Not only in
dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The audience sees the
effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re home now boy
Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s voice, a
specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to the
audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will
cause a huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning
and Red Dog, the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to
create meaning and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these
themes and ideas can be better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme
of loyalty quite extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while

tried to commit suicide. According to WebMD, there are currently no approved medications to

learn how to control his impulses. An effective treatment modality would be Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT). In CBT, Alex would be able to go though the six components of the therapy. In
the psychoeducation portion, he would be able to understand his disorder and the management
that is required for this type of mental illness, which will be lifelong. Somatic management will
help him learn techniques to control any sort of physical symptoms that may come up with
conduct disorder and cognitive reconstruction would be able to help Alex modify the thoughts he
has about violence and his relationships with others into more positive ones. Problem solving
would have Alex learn coping strategies for when he feels violent impulses so he would not act

so he eventually conquer them. Lastly, relapse prevention would lay ground work for him to
prevent him from relapsing into old violent behavior and outbursts and for him to maintain positive

  • 2. A Reflection On Awakening Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting In this paper, I will be writing about my reflection and reaction to an Upon Awakening Alcoholic Anonymous meeting which was held at the Unity of Sedona Church, 65 Deer Trail in Sedona, Arizona on Thursday, October 29, 2015. This meeting was held at 7:30 AM in the morning. The meeting consisted of an eleven step grouping of middle aged men and women ranging from ages 30 to 65 years old. There were seven men and thirteen women whose purpose was to practice prayer through the eleventh step of the Big Book. The meeting started out with an introduction of everyone who was present. They stated their names and said they were alcoholics and how long they had been sober. They continued to go over old business, and then proceeded to read from the Alcoholics AnonymousBig Book, the Third Step Prayer. The prayer was about releasing one s self of their bondage. A gong wash was performed, followed by fifteen minutes of meditation. Participants came forward to share their reflection of the Third Step Prayer. Jean was the first one to come forward to speak and her thoughts were; One s self must be the one to relieve the bondage to and from one s self s defects. One must learn to discover, undercover, and discard one s bondage by believing within. A woman named Deb got up and informed us that she was a servant to her creativity. She claimed that she needed to find regularity and she welcomed discomfort. Nancy didn t under stand the Third Step Prayer. She could not admit that she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their dictator Mohammed Farrah had order the closer of all food transportation that entered the country. His goal was to kill his own people by starving them to death. About 300,000 civilians had died of hunger. In response, the united States send troops to Somalia to capture Mohammed Farrah, the self proclaimed president of Somalia. They soon found out that the best strategic was to capture Omar Salad Elmi and Abdi Hassan Awale Queybdiid, two of Mohammed top advisers. The mission was to capture Omar Salad Elmi and Abdi Hassan Awale Queybdiid, two of Mohammed top advisers. After arriving at their target building, they capture both of the advisors. Black Hawk Super 6 1 is hit by a rocket grenade and crashes five blocks away from the target building. The mission then turned into a rescue mission to save the soldiers that were in the black hawk. Soldiers had to walk to the crash site, which was a very dangerous mission to go through since enemies were all over Mogadishu. As soldiers were on their way to crash number one a second hawk was shot down. Black Hawk, Super 64, is hit by another Somali rocket grenade, and crashes about a mile away from the target building. • 4. Semantics, Syntax, And Variation Of Language When one takes an advanced grammar course, they are in for a new vision of learning and understanding grammar. Most people are taught grammar as early as Elementary school, however, they only recognize grammar for its functions in the written language and not the true meanings it has on sentence structures and clauses. There are many views on the importance grammar usages. Different Linguist has different theories. The two main grammar usages that are discussed are Grammar Discourse and Cohesion. Linguisticsis the study of the nature, structure, and variation of language that includes phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics ( Linguistics, n.d., p. 1). In Linguistics, discourse is defined as a unit of text described by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 124). Larger clauses that makeup of many sentences are considered linguistic items. Many books, stories, poems, and even lectures include linguistic items. Many clauses in a story make up language or utterances. Being able to distinguish the utterance in a lecture or story will help the listener identify if the material is complete or incomplete. Texts consist of longer sentences that would make it hard for the reader to clarify the subject in one sentence. Stages in narratives help the linguist point out the events in the story. The stages breakdown the settings, events, and resolution of the narrative. The structural scheme is identified, and all the stages of the narrative can be put into the correct order ( Test and Discourse, 2007, p. 7). Grammar and discourse can sometimes be two different types of communication, but they can compliment each other. Mira Ariel described grammar and discourse as Grammar specifies a set of language codes and guides speakers on how to properly construct sentences, which are then conjoined by entirely different discourse principals into a coherent piece of discourse (Ariel, 2009, p. 5). Not all texts are of equal value as some contains salient information that brings the story to its climax. Salient text consists of main line verb clauses. Longacere calls this method of discourse salient system. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Disadvantages Of Hair Removal Advantages of Epilating When you think about hair removal, what are the first methods that pop in mind? Shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis? One of the least discussed methods of hair removal is epilating. Lets take a look at epilating compared to other methods of hair removal. Shaving Shaving is probably the most common method of hair removal. A disposable razor is worth mere pennies, and are often not sold for much more than a few dollars. Electric razors are often pricier, and then you need to buy new blades for it anyways. In addition to not breaking the bank, most people first learn to shave with a disposable razor and may not ever upgrade to an electric razor. Shaving is cost effective and familiar. However, shaving may be one of the most annoying and inefficient methods of hair removal out there. Shaving cuts the hair that is poking above the skin, meaning that the root is still intact. With an intact root, the hair will grow back within days. In fact, according to this British study, women spend 1,728 hours shaving over the course of their lives, Huffington Post reports. This study also says that the average British woman shaves for 4 minutes, 6 days a week. Shaving is undoubtedly an inefficient form of hair removal if it has to be done almost every day because of how quickly hair stubble grows back. Shaving also blunts the ends of the hair, which can cause it to curl inwards and create ingrown hairs. If that doesn t happen, the hair follicles can become irritated and develop razor burn. If neither of these happen, you could accidentally nick yourself with the razor, which could lead to an unsightly gash or scar. All of these are reasons why shaving is not an ideal form of hair removal, and epilating improves on every single one of these problems. Epilating rips hair out by the root, similar to waxing. Since the root of the hair is gone, it needs to reform before hair can grow again. This takes weeks, depending on the individual. Using an epilator cuts down on your hair removal time by large chunks. Although ingrown hairs can form with an epilator, it is rarer than it is with shaving. Since the hair is growing back from scratch it is possible for it to grow sideways, causing an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010) Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto. In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I have chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states look after the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main ideas that stood out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why I think they are the three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has communicated very well. Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . The bourgeoisie, in France, had been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power. During the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise afterwards as stated by Marx: The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74) Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always last. The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the bourgeois and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics have a massive hold on where the power in societies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Essay about Funeral Funeral Personal Narrative I gaze around. I see one family, brought together, to mourn for one of our own. Countless numbers of dark figures stand on parade, speaking in unison to pay our respects to one whom we adore. The sadness corrupts my inner soul and my heart bleeds a river inside. Nothing could change the wretchedness I feel. We leave, what seems to me, not a holy church, but more of a devil s palace. But the worst is yet to come. Still shedding tears I climb into the hearse, my eyes fixed upon the noble man in the back, in the vain hope that there would be life in him once again. It is useless. I think to myself, This is no gate . A gate would be an astonishing gift to me right now. The only thing I can do now is pray and hope. To pray that I will not have to go through this anguish, suffering and endless hell once again. In one sudden movement, my hopes and dreams are crushed into minute pieces of terror and misery, as the hearse driver opens the door. Resistance is pointless. We are already here. A foot away from the gates of fire. I push open the gate upon its rusty hinges. Though, I know, cemeteries are supposed to be depressing and solemn places, this is out of the ordinary. I am welcomed by an old, decrepit yet elegant chapel, that has been abused by weather and man, but preserved and decorated by Mother Nature. Ivy droops over the freestanding wall and fades away into the rubble and ruins. Through a slight crack in the wall I see the remains of a derelict altar. I continue on, picking up my drained feet off the grassy surface from under them. They are comforted by the pleasantness of a spongy carpet of autumn leaves. A mosaic of infinite colors. A mild breeze slithers past my face and cools me throughout as we enter a kingdom of beauty. My eyes ascend up into the branches of an oak that has past its prime, but nothing can steal the ... Benito Mussolini capitalized on the fact that the 1934 World Cup was to take place in Italy, by drawing on the athletic imagery of the Roman Empire, where Mussolini himself chose the referees for each game, culminating in the Italians bringing the trophy home that year (Duffy, 2003). Jules Rimet, president of FIFA, remained seated when the Italian national team gave the fascist salute to Mussolini after the game (Eisenberg, 2005). Contrary to 1914 with the onset of World War I , when professional football had continued for the first year of war, England recognized that the threat coming from Nazi Germany s invasion of Poland just a week earlier on September 1st, was much more imminent (Whitlock, 2016). Unfortunately, the English people realized that football would be the only constant left for them in this war torn environment and therefore protested heavily against this ban. There were two problems with the fans complaints: first, the government had imposed a 50 mile traveling limit on railroads because they were needed to move military supplies and soldiers, and second, that there was a limit of only 8,000 people per stadium due to threats of Nazi bombardments (Whitlock, 2016). Nevertheless, the FA managed to put together several regional leagues across the country that evaded these restrictions and solved the problem of many footballers themselves being drafted into military service. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some of the barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks, insufficient time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some solutions they explain to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where sinks are not around and placing them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can be a suitable way for proper hand hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also describe, Involve staff in trying several alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and involve employee health services in creating a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff. Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself, Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning rock. This at least was his nickname in Aramaic the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of the New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name, Peter. The name Simon Peter, then, literally means Simon the Rock. In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian politics generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The people have more power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader. There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self interest. Tidwell brings to attention that Louisiana has 40% of the United States wetlands, but people do not realize all of the economic benefits and ecosystem services that these wetlands provide. Sadly, these wetlands are being submerged and destroyed at the rate of over a football field an hour. The main causes of Louisianas wetlands disappearing are the levees that prevent the Mississippi from dropping rich sediment at the mouth of the river to create barrier islands, and the careless actions of oil and gas companies (creating pipelines everywhere and frequent oil spills). Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them stories. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as a symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social stratification, where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict. Stratification is present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large and small sides of the scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to narrow the social position of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages the system in place was the Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the peasants had the least, in between were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed further classifications, within the peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen, serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood was commenting on the intent of naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose, he proposes, is that they are meant to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it. The job of an artist is to take their observations ... • 49. Impact Of Beethoven On The Development Of The Symphony... Discuss the impact of Beethoven on the development of the symphony until Mahler. Difficult as it may be to define the true relationship of an artist to his successors, this difficulty is enormously increased when the subject is as complex a man and musician as Beethoven. His role as both a preserver of the eighteenth century tradition1 and a pioneer of romantic self expression, has secured his status as one of the most revered composers in the history of Western music. Throughout his symphonic cycle, Beethoven s own journey of self discovery can be very clearly heard. The Third, Fifth, Sixth and Ninth symphonies were particularly pioneering; they used new ideas such as programme music, orchestral and symphonic expansion and the prolongation of dissonance, inspiring a new generation of romantic symphonists. However, there is an equally strong argument, suggesting that musical fashion and history had turned away from Beethoven towards the end of his life. In the music of his immediate contemporaries, with the exception of Schubert perhaps, his work hardly played a vital force and it was not until the latter half of the 19th century that his influence began to dominate the musical scene. Composers such as Brahms and Bruckner developed the motivic and intrinsically musical ideas in Beethoven s music whilst others such as Berlioz, Liszt, Mahler and Wagner embraced the extra musical programmatic ideas. Through an extension of Beethoven s work in both of these strands, his legacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
