Literary Differences In Kissing The Witch By Emma Donoghue
Nobody made me do the things I did, nobody scolded me, nobody punished me but me. The shrill
voices were all inside. Do this, do that, you lazy heap of dirt (2). Coming from the first passage of
Emma Donoghue s Kissing the Witch sets a revision of popular fairy tales whereas internal voices,
seen as personal experience, and their comparison to external voices, seen as societal expectations,
create places where these stories change. This shift can be seen as a move away from the original well
known story or aspects of that particular story, while also representing a change in the narrator of the
story itself.
The passage above for instance occurs when a cinderella type character is introduced to the reader.
These internal voices are normally associated with the external voices of the evil stepmother and
stepdaughters, which is associated widely with a common thread within the cinderella story itself.
This revision flips what is normally seen as an external voice and internalizes it. A few pages later we
see the girl and her interaction with the prince after he proposes marriage. The voices were shrieking,
Yes yes yes say yes before you lose your chance you bag of nothingness. I opened my teeth but no
sound came out (7). While the passage above set up the idea of internal voices, this passage shows
how this internalized external voice is not the voice of the cinderella type narrator. Not only does this
completely rewrite what is considered the normal ending for the

VT-8 Research Paper
Wednesday evening June 3, aboard the carrier Hornet, Lieutenant Commander John Waldron gathered
the members of Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT 8) for a briefing. VT 8 was flying the obsolete 1930 s
vintage Douglas Devastators torpedo planes. They had not received a lot of flight training in their ten
months in the navy. Most members had never taken off of a carrier carrying a torpedo but just six
weeks earlier they had watch Doolittle s B 25 bombers take off the Hornet for the raid on Tokyo. If
Doolittle s pilots could take off in a bomber, the members of VT 8 could handle taking off with a
torpedo. A Japanese task force was threatening Midway Island and a battle to stop them was expected
to occur tomorrow. Waldron told them not to worry about navigation but to just follow him. Waldron

torpedo planes that attacked, 35 or 83% did not survive. While the torpedo planes were being

Enterprise s dive bombers spotted the Japanese carriers. McClusky led his 31 dive bombers into a
screaming dive towards the carriers. They scored multiply hits on the Japanese carriers Akagi and
Kaga. About the same time the Max Leslie led 17 dive bombers from the Yorktown in a dive scoring
multiple hits on the Japanese carrier Soryu. At 1700 in the afternoon dive bombers from the Enterprise
and Yorktown attacked and scored multiple hits on the Japanese carrier Hiryu. By the morning of
Friday June 5, the four Japanese carriers Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu and the heavy cruiser

Essay On Sniffy The Virtual Rat
Method
Subjects
A virtual rat, Sniffy, was used for this experiment. Sniffy the Virtual Rat, Pro Version 3.0 allows for
the demonstration of Pavlovian and operant conditioning of a virtual rat. Tom Alloway, Greg Wilson,
and Jeff Graham, authors of Sniffy the Virtual Rat designed this program to be an affordable
alternative for students to gain access to the main phenomena of classical and operant conditioning
that courses on the psychology of learning typically discuss (Jakubow, 2007). The program allows for
simulations for Pavlovian conditioning such as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, stimulus
intensity effects, compound conditioning, blocking, overshadowing, overexpectation, inhibition,
sensory preconditioning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fourth window is the Helpful Advice window, this window gives you information on Sniffy s state
whether he made an association or not and instructions on what to do.
Procedure
We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training
technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper
with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the
pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations
mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the association between sound and food was
strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the
training of Sniffy to press the bar himself.
Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was
adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to
Continuous. The Recorded Shaping Behavior was set to Press Bar in order to begin training Sniffy to
press the bar. Sniffy was first rewarded only when Sniffy would rear up facing the wall where the bar
and hopper were located. Later Sniffy would be rewarded when he reared closer and

Large Trailer Analysis
Unfortunately, collisions involving large trucks and passenger vehicles are all too common on the
roads throughout North Carolina. In fact, the state s Department of Transportation reported that there
were more than 3,400 accidents involving semitrailers in 2013 alone. Due to the size differences
between the vehicles, such collisions often result in serious injuries, or death, for the occupants of
passenger vehicles. While not all trucking crashes can be avoided, there are steps that drivers can take
to reduce their odds of being involved in these types of accidents. Use caution when passing It is
obvious to most motorists that tractor trailers are much larger and longer than the average passenger
vehicle. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety points out that it can take drivers a half mile
to safely pass these large trucks. Therefore, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, truckers may have to merge into the lanes to their left in order to make some right turns.
Drivers should be aware of this, and refrain from trying to squeeze in between these vehicles and the
curb or other automobiles. This may help avoid serious semitrailer accidents. Avoid suddenly slowing
or stopping According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, fully loaded tractor trailers can
weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. Due to their size and weight, these vehicles require significantly
more stopping distance than passenger cars, trucks and SUVs. In ideal conditions, large trucks
traveling at 55 mph need about 430 feet to stop. Consequently, truckers may not be able to adjust and
stop in time to avoid a collision if drivers suddenly slow or stop in front of them. Thus, it is
recommended that people be attentive to the road conditions and take precautions to avoid
unexpectedly stopping when driving in front of a semitrailer. Stay out of the

Essay On White Rose Resistance
While Hitler kept Jews in the concentration camps, there were some Jewish and non Jewish people
that tried and stop this brutality or help the Jews. They knew what hitler was doing with the Jews and
his plans. They tried to do something to try and help the people. Some of them where The White Rose
society, Rose Blanche, and Resistances in the ghettos.
The white rose society were some of the first ones to start this revolt against hitler. Alexander
Schmorell and Hans Scholl , both of whom were studying medicine, were the first LMU students to
consider mounting an active campaign of resistance against the Nazi regime. Within two weeks,

Kremenets, Częstochowa, Nesvizh, Sosnowiec, and Tarnow, among others, resisted with force when
the Germans began to deport ghetto populations. In Bialystok, the underground staged an uprising just

young men and women, died during the fighting. The Warsaw ghetto uprising in the spring of 1943
was the largest single revolt by Jews. Hundreds of Jews fought the Germans and their auxiliaries in

Core Values Of Civilization
Since the beginning of time people have been in awe at the formation of civilization. Books have been
written, articles have been published, and even Sid Meier created the video game Civilization
surrounding this concept. In the game, players are tasked with not only establishing and maintaining a
civilization but as well as determining the core values and characteristics of the civilization in
question. The core values of civilization are the use of tools and technology for life enhancement,
social and political organization, and an agreed upon settlement and language. The use of tools and
technology is one of the basic characteristics of civilization in that it allows the civilization the better
itself. A common representation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the earliest Indian civilization technology allowed the massive civilization of over 100,000 people
to live together through the use of sewage canals to transport waste from the houses to larger canals.
This concept has been used even in modern times. Technology allowed civilizations to not only better
themselves but establish a legacy for the civilization to follow and last even until today. With every
establishment and group there must be a sense of organization both political and social. Just as school
clubs have officers, civilizations have leaders that spearhead the group. In the Stone Age, tribal leaders
led the group from place to place. This nomadic lifestyle relied on experience to guide the search for
food. Once settling into an agricultural lifestyle, social classes began to form based on success
harvests and land ownership. In Mesopotamian culture, organization was built not only around social
hierarchy with famous rulers being Sargon the Great and Hammurabi but religiously as pyramids
known as Ziggurats were built to worship and sacrifice to the Gods. The greatest implementation of
organization is found in ancient Egypt with not only the society being structured with the pharaoh
ruling the nation and lower levels of aristocracy but with the emphasis being focused on religious
efforts. In Egypt, the pharaoh was not only

The Importance Of Time In The Military
The military, in any country, has a habit of wanting you to show up on time for work, formation, drill
and any other things that come with being a soldier. Most of the reasons behind this are similar to
those of what a civilian employer might hold. Also the simple fact that it s part of the job. Many
reasons contribute to why you must be on time in the military. Be it the oath you swore, the Uniform
Code of Military Justice, trying to get promoted, accountability or just trying to stay out of trouble in
general. The reasons are many and the people around may never know why. The military oath. People
swear their lives to it. Your heart may belong to the people you love, your soul to the religion you

If not, failing to obey those orders will result in dealing with the consequences, and more seriously,
dealing with the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The Uniform Code of Military Justice, or put
simply, UCMJ. When you receive orders to be at a given location at a specific and you don t make it
in time, you violate two articles of the UCMJ. Article 86 of the UCMJ declares unauthorized absence
absence without leave, not being where you are supposed to be, when you re supposed to be there, is a
punishable offense. If you arrive late for an appointment or what you had to be at, solely for whatever
you might have at that point, you might face charges that include a violation of Article 87 of the
UCMJ, Missing Movement. These are serious and may affect your military career in the long run. The
military thinks it s important, that you increase your chances for promotion by showing up for work
on time. Doing so is part of attention to detail and punctuality, some of the standards by which your
superiors above you rate you during promotion boards and counselings. These positive reports are part
of the collective evaluation used to determine your potential for increased

Organic Food Is Better Than Conventional Food
Organic food is a current topic in today s healthful world. There are different sides to the organic food
argument. One is that organic food is much better than conventional food. The other is that
conventional food is just as good as organic and more for your dollar. To some families organic food is
more then they can afford because of the extra work that is required to grow it. People say that organic
food is better because it has no chemicals or fertilizer in it but that is not true because they do put
fertilizer on it just natural fertilizer that is certified by the USDA. Conventional food which to many
people think is not safe because of the chemicals in it but it is just as safe as organic food. Some
organic food is not completely chemical free. Certified organic is the most chemical free but not
completely. According to the Mayo Clinic if the produce has a USDA organic seal on it then it is 95 to
100 percent organic. Products that are completely organic such as fruits, vegetables, eggs or other
single ingredient foods are labeled 100 percent organic and can carry the USDA seal. Foods that have
more than one ingredient, such as breakfast cereal, can use the USDA organic seal plus the following
wording, depending on the number of organic ingredients, 100 percent organic. To use this phrase,
products must be either completely organic or made of all organic ingredients. Organic. Products must
be at least 95 percent organic to use this term (Are They Safe?).

segment in terms of products offered, primarily due to the large margins that can be received. The
segment grew substantially in the early periods but lately has entered the decline stage and will now

this, segment will quickly lose its appeal in future periods. * HI EARNERS Like the Professionals, the

On a daily basis, a dental hygienist will try to make their patients as comfortable as possible, prepare
the patients for certain treatments, and retrieve records. They may even hand dental instruments and
materials to dentists. Dental Hygienists keep patients mouths dry by using suction devices. Another
job dental hygienists do is sterilizing equipment. They set up trays for procedures, and instruct patients
about taking care of their dental health after procedures and overall oral health care. They may also
process x ray film. Dental Hygienists might also apply anesthetics to gums (Dental Assistant: Work

dental hygiene is very stressful. Adding children to that equation makes it even worse. Children have a
harder time understanding things, unlike adults. Therefore, you have to simplify things for them and
the process might take longer. For young children, fear of the unknown is the biggest fear of all. Every
child is unique; therefore, you need to be flexible and complaisant. Kindness is a must and patience
goes a long way in gaining trust and respect from a child (The Reality of...).

St. Paul V. Uber Case Study
In this case City of St. Paul v. Uber, 450, N.W. 2d 623 (Minn. Ct. App. 1990) an officer who was with
the Minnesota Police department of St. Paul, for eighteen years, had been working the early morning
night patrol. While out on patrol he had witnessed a driver, in a pick up truck at approximately
2:15a.m. in a particular part of town that was known to be where people would pick up prostitutes.
Again the male driver was seen about a half hour later in the same area at 2:45pm. Officer Mathison
ran a license plate check on the vehicle. The vehicle was registered to an individual in Moundsview
Minnesota. The area that this trucks registration had come back to an address that was mainly a suburb

within the legal limits of city neighborhood driving, with no erratic behavior, no signs of intoxicated
driving, but for no reason then but being a white male alone in a neighborhood that is frequented by

Freudian in thinking that perhaps he may have stopped in the same circumstances and picked up a

Some may think that what was observable in facts is that Uber was seen twice within a thirty minute
time frame. The arresting officer conceded that appellant was not seen circling the same block, was
not observed stopping or slowing down in the vicinity of any known prostitutes, did not attempt to
engage anyone in conversation, and, as stated above, testified that no erratic driving behavior of any
kind nor any evasive activity was

Confucianism Han China
Han China (206 B.C.E. 220 C.E.), and Imperial Rome (31 B.C.E. 476 C.E.), were powerful and
influential civilizations whose fall had an everlasting impact on society. The inability to protect
borders and corrupt officials led to the fall of Han China and Imperial Rome. Unlike the Han,
Christianity tore Rome apart while Confucianism united China. The corruption of officials led to the
dismay of both Han China and Imperial Rome. In Han China, Wang Mang hoarded grain and allowed
his people to starve to death during poor harvest (EV H). He also allowed corruption, while serving in
office, by doing nothing to stop officials who were abusing his attempt to equalize prices of goods

In Han China, the social beliefs of Confucianism brought China closer by teaching morals and ethical
principles (EV H). Confucianism brought upon social order and respect to China (EV H). Unlike the
Han, Christianity tore Imperial Rome apart. Christianity conflicted with Rome s beliefs because
Christians believe in spiritual peace. These beliefs conflicted with Rome s military virtues, triggering
conflicting opinions and divisions (EV R). Ultimately, Christianity weakened the Roman Empire as
opposed to Confucianism uniting Han China. In context, like the Han and the Roman, the Gupta
Empire fell for similar reasons. The Gupta fell for reasons such as from the invasions of the White
Hun, which drained the Guptas treasuries, similar to Han China who were invaded by the Xiongnu
and Imperial Rome by the Visigoths. Civil unrest is also a recurring factor in the fall of all three
mentioned civilizations. In conclusion, Han China and Imperial Rome both shared aspects that led to
their fall. Han China s Confucianism brought China closer together, while Rome s Christianity tore
Rome apart. Nonetheless, both shared common factors such as corruption and the inability to protect

Analysis Of On Death Row, But Is He Innocent
In On Death Row, but Is He Innocent? Nicholas Kristof explores the position that the evidence that
convicted Kevin Cooper, an inmate on death row in San Quentin State Prison, may be unreliable. In
1983, a California professor drove to his neighbor s house to pick up his eleven year old son. He
peered through the window to find the house in a state of bloody disarray. Amongst the blood was the
bodies of his neighbor s family and the lifeless body of his son. Additionally, the professor Joshua
Ryen who was stabbed multiple times, but still clinging to life. Kristof highlights the overwhelming
evidence of police tampering with evidence that sent Kevin Cooper to death row. Additionally, Kristof
suggests evidence as to Cooper s innocence was not given proper scrutiny. Therefore, Kristof alleges
Cooper s case, particularly the evidence, should be reviewed. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
denied this request. Although as Attorney General of California, Jerry Brown should little interest in
the case, as Governor he is currently reviewing the case.
The fallacy of irrelevance, or ignoratio elenchi, is an argument purporting to establish a particular
conclusion, but is instead directed to proving another conclusion. Kristof potentially frames the fallacy
of ignoratio elenchi even from the title: On Death Row, but Is He Innocent? On the one hand, the title
does not commit the fallacy if framed just as written, a question. However, to the suggest Kristof s
defense equates to

Informative Speech On Racism
Racism is like an epidemic in that it is spread by communities and affects thousands of lives every
day. It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When in effect,
racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil rights movements
and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism. Eradicating racism all
together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to make people aware of actual
damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this discrimination is. One of the most
impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is the television hit series titled Switched
at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of white students placed cotton balls throughout
the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said students were white and rich, they got away
with it. This lack of punishment from authority for such a horrendous act created an uprising within
the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest, but one member went on a hunger strike to gain
attention. The school refused to partake in the expulsion of the students and requests of equality from
the union, so the one member continued her hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment,
the said member was sent to the hospital as she had passed out and almost lost her life. Even after this
event, the school wanted to ignore her actions and keep the students.

Macbeth Play Dinner Scene
On 17 May 2016, the Stratford Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario hosted the play Macbeth as
directed by Antoni Cimolino. Act 3 Scene 4 used lighting and a loud thunder crack to seamlessly
transition into dinner scene. Cimolino effectively captured the superstitious meeting between Banquo
s and Duncan s ghosts and Macbeth through spooky background music along with focused
spotlighting on the ghosts and Macbeth. Lady Macbeth s line, What, quite unmann d in folly?
(Shakespeare III.iv.73) and her overall emasculation of Macbeth was preserved in the script; however,
Ian Lake s overly powerful Macbeth drowned out Sarah Afful s portrayal of this theme. The original
play script shows a fearful and submissive Macbeth in this scene, whereas Lake s Macbeth constantly
exerted his dominant presence on the stage. This presence was well complemented by the lighting and
background sound used when Lake spoke to the ghosts, as it allowed for a clear differentiation
between Lake s comments to the ghosts versus his communication with the other men. This scene
conveyed the primary theme of Macbeth s resolve to do what is necessary to keep his throne, ... Show

The proof of his death was a bag with a round lump inside that vaguely resembled a head. This

sword fight between Ian Lake s Macbeth and Michael Blake s Macduff certainly illustrated the
emotions of both characters. The acoustic properties of the Stratford Festival Theatre boosted the
sword s clashes, which created a dramatic scene until the two went offstage for Macbeth s death.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uav )
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), are pilotless and non crewed aircraft that are
capable of flight either by remote control or through the use of on board computers. Other names for
these types of aircraft are remotely piloted vehicle (RPV), remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), and
remotely operated aircraft (ROA). Drones are commonly used by the military, but are also being
implemented in search and rescue operations and being utilized in other civil applications, such as
policing and firefighting. The technology is also allowing for hobbyists and other enthusiasts to
become avid drone operators, albeit on a relatively smaller scale. During the American Civil War, an
inventor patented an unmanned balloon that carried explosives that could be dropped after a time
delay fuse mechanism triggered the basket to overturn its contents. Air currents and weather patterns
made it difficult to estimate for how long to set the fuse, and the balloon was never successfully
deployed. By 1883, the first aerial photograph was taken using a kite, a camera and a very long string
attached to the shutter release of the camera. In 1898, this technology was put to use in the Spanish
American War, resulting in the first military aerial reconnaissance photos. World War I saw the
development and testing of various radio controlled unmanned aircraft, but none emerged from the
testing phase in time to be used before the war ended. In the¬ 1930s, the British Royal Navy

Different Types Of Motor For A Robotic Surgery System Essay
A client of Reverse engineering has given us three types of motors (DC motor, servo motor, and a
stepper motor) and tasked us with determining the best application for these motors. They have also
requested a recommendation of a DC motor for their newest robotic surgery system. The purpose of
this experiment is to investigate these three different types of motors, to determine the most useful
application for these different types of motors, and to give a recommendation of a DC motor for a
robotic surgery system. The following sections of this memo will detail different aspects of the
experiment. Section 2 will clearly present the results of the experiment and detail any observations.
Section 3 will discuss the significance of these results and section 4 will summarize and conclude the
memorandum. 2. Results and Description During the DC motor experiment, the weight trough was
observed to sway side to side when ascending. On occasion, the weights would swing into the table
and require the test to be run again. The stepper motor was observed to not always point exactly at one
of the designated angles (angles measuring 0, 45, 90, 135 etc.). Results were gathered three different

Facu History
Reading this article not only did it summarize FAMU s history and presidential history for 130 years,
but the major things going on in the world. From slavery, and opening of FAMU, which use to be
FAMC to Civil Rights and Black Lives Matter movements. I ve gained knowledge about my
university. Not only is it the third college, but it s the only public HBCU in Florida. FAMU use to be
FAMC (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College) due to poor funding. Something interesting that
I have read was that they had what was called the Great Fires of FAMU from 1923 to 1924 where
students angry from there former president Nathan B. Young was forced to departure office. Also after
the Birmingham Buss Boycott with Rosa Parks in 1955 Tallahassee had ... Show more content on

It shows me that I must succeed not only for me but for my family seeing as only me and my sister
was the only ones to make it to college; and for my ancestors who fought for my rights and education.
One thing I noticed was how they quoted the Father of Black History , Dr. Carter G. Woodson if a race
has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the
world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated (page33), but failed to mention any special
traditions that FAMU does like set Fridays and convocation. As I began to tackle this chapter I thought
it was just going to be short stories about each president and person whose donated. You can imagine
how surprised I was to see how they included other things going on in the world; while each president
was in charge. For example, the killing of Trayvon Martin from racial profiling and Michael Brown by
a police officer. Which are two things I was alive to experience and I am continuing to experience in
modern day. I have learned that being black is more than a color it is a culture and that I must try and

resulting from such add ins, and document the problem in a case study.
Java is one of the most widely used add ons on the internet this day. Anyone from personal computer
users to companies and organizations use it on their computer systems. Just like most add ons, it has

Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima
On the quiet morning of August 6, 1945, the United States shocked the world by dropping an atomic
bomb over the city of Hiroshima, Japan. (www.grolier.com) Hiroshima was a major industrial city
with an estimated population of almost 400,000 people. A B 29 bomber was loaded with the Atomic
Bomb and left the United States Pacific air base at 2:45 a.m. local time and dropped the bomb at 8:15
a.m.
The bomb was detonated one minute after being dropped. The atomic bomb, nicknamed Little Boy ,
which was dropped on the Hiroshima City, exploded at an altitude of 580 meters above a hospital
close to the present A bomb Dome. (Brown, p.38) The mushroom cloud resulting from the explosion

Death from leukemia is a primary symbol of the suffering of the survivors of the atomic bombing.
Scientists found out that the over exposure to radiation from the atomic bombs increases the frequency
of malignant tumors of many organs. This sickness is rarely fatal and the symptoms are extremely
mild. (Adams, p.49) A scientist also found cholesterol has been implicated in diseases caused by
hardening of the arteries. It is well known that stroke is prone to occur when the cholesterol level is
low and that coronary heart diseases are prone to occur when it is high. Over a thirty year period,
cholesterol level shown that is rose remarkably with age.
Various studies have released information that points to deaths from other diseases other than cancer.
Around 40% of Hiroshima s population had died by the end of 1945, either due to the initial blast or
from radiation related diseases. Circulatory diseases accounted for nearly half of the deaths. Between
1950 and 1990, the studies say that 15,633 deaths had occurred from the other diseases. Also digestive
diseases, including liver disease, and respiratory diseases each accounted for about 10% of the total.
Studies show that between 140 and 280 deaths had happened form radiation exposure alone. Survivors
showed a greater than usual incidence of leukemia early on, and an ever increasing rate of other types
of cancers as the years wears on, much greater

What Are The Characters In Daughter Of Fortune
Daughter of Fortune
In the book, Daughter of Fortune, by Isabel Allende, the characters are ever changing. You have Eliza,
who through most of the novel dresses as a boy, Jacob Todd who transitions between a Bible salesman
and a newspaper reporter, Joe Bonecrusher who transitions from a tough, emotionless woman to a
very caring person, and Joaquin who transitions from an innocent, poor Chilean boy to a person who
is hunted down and killed. Many of the characters in Daughter of Fortune experience a transition in
their life, and I will tell you about four of those characters.
A transition can mean a lot of things. One of the more known transitions is the boy becoming a man
idea. One example I thought of that expressed this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then she transforms herself into a Chilean boy, acting as if she is the brother of Joaquin. Eliza will
come in contact with a traveling brothel, where she decides to go along and play the piano for them.
She eventually makes it back to San Francisco to live with Tao Chi en. Together they start saving the
lives of young Chinese girls who are sold to brothels, and are living in horrible, filthy conditions.
They form an underground system where they have the help of Quakers, and Babalu the bad from the
traveling brothel. Eliza soon hears word that Andieta had became a bandit and a group of men were
sent out to search for him, bringing him back dead or alive. The men bring back what they say is
Joaquin s head, and display it for all to see. Eliza learns his head is on display and wants to go and see
it immediately. With Tao Chi en by her side, Eliza takes one look at the head, states she is free, and
walks away.
I want to start off with the transitions that Eliza went through. She had made the most transitions of all
the characters. Her first transition was going from a little girl to a young woman, when she falls in
love with Joaquin. She gets carried away with the illusion of love, and falls head over heels for him.
Her second transition was when Tao Chi en had made the decision to sneak her off the boat as a
Chinese boy. She decided she actually liked dressing in men s clothes because they weren t as
restricting as women s. She then

The Fives System
The FiveS system, also known as the 5S, is a organization system created at first for production
systems and then adapted by western managers for the workplace. Hiroyuki Hirano developed the
system in Japan and it is believed it lead to the very popular Just in time (JIT) manufacturing. For
example, major brands like Toyota have been using this system successfully for years. 5S is based on
the phrase a place for everything and everything in its place. (Byrne) Meaning that the workplace
should have everything you need, when you need it. In the workplace, it is believed that the
environment is key into the employee s behaviors. For example, if your mind is clear and you don t

In my experience as a student, I learned that organization and order are essential for me to achieve my
goals and getting everything done on time. Without a clean organized desk, I can t do my assignments
as fast and efficient as I would if it was. That is because I will waste time cleaning and finding
resources and also I will be paying attention to other things that I shouldn t. In any organization, the
principle is the same because we have the same human behavior. Based on that, it is clear that
implementing the 5S system is very positive for organizations and it is a key concept in organizational
behavior. Pillars The FiveS system is based on five pillars mentioned above. It is important to know
that the system is cyclical, meaning every step follows another and has to be done in the right order
for it to work. Figure 1 shows a good diagram of how the system works and how the last S, sustain,
makes sure that the steps keep going and improving. If done correctly, it should result in continuous
improvement of the organization s workplace. The first pillar, called Sort, relates to elimination of
everything in the workplace that is unnecessary to the employee s tasks. This will create opening of
workspace that could be used better, as well as eliminate unnecessary or broken tools that would slow
down employee tasks. There are several methods to achieve this, the most popular being red tagging .
This method involves sorting through the items in the

His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity
Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure revolves around
images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often appears as an object to be looked at
and acted upon, while the male protagonist is usually granted a more active role, both in terms of his
agency in the narrative, and in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is backed up by
elements of two films studied this semester: His Girl Friday by Howard Hawks (1940) and Double
Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the main female
characters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have over the females, and the way
that the woman s image is used to draw attention to specific aspects of the plot. In both of these
movies, the females take a subordinate and supporting role to the male figures. First, in His Girl
Friday, Hildy is a newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. In the 1940s, it was
customary for women to serve their men at home, and Hildy extended that with her husband to the
work place. Every reporter has to answer to the editor, so Walter was Hildy s boss at home and at
work. The movie opens up, and Hildy is returning from a long vacation after the divorce. She returns
to Walter Burns, to inform him that she is now engaged. During that conversation, we see a glimpse of
how their relationship worked. While Hildy is trying to tell Walter about Bruce, her

Quarter Car Essay
WHEEL SLIP DYNAMICS Quarter car model
The consideration of a quarter car model can clearly explained the problem of wheel slippage as
shown in the fig.5. This quarter car model consists of mass m which is connected by a wheel. The
mass m is steered by the inertia with a velocity v, as a result the wheel starts rotating. A friction force
fx is generated between the wheel and the road surface. An angular velocity ω is caused by wheel
rotation, which is generated by the torque. A negative angular acceleration is developed, when the
brake is pressed in opposition to the wheel rotation.
Fig.5 Quarter car forces and torques
The equation of quarter car forces are:
mv= F_x (1) Jw=rF_x T_b sign(ω) (2)
Where
m = mass of the quarter vehicle v = velocity of the vehicle ω = angular velocity of the wheel F_z =

HIV Came with Harsh Stereotypes and Discrimination for...
During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh
stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most
talented and influential point guards in basketball was dominating the sport: Earvin Magic Johnson.
Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted
into the Basketball Hall of Fame ( Magic Johnson ). However, on November 7, 1991, Johnson
announced his diagnosis of HIV and his retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight
against AIDS. The Magic Johnson Foundation was founded and is still dedicated to educating
communities about AIDS. The charitable and influential work Johnson contributed to the research of
AIDS revealed him as not just an extraordinary basketball player but also as an extraordinary human
being ( Magic Johnson ). A few years after Johnson s diagnosis, he released his autobiography, My
Life. My Life describes the childhood and competitive basketball years of Johnson as well as his
announcement of contracting HIV. In the article, New and Noteworthy Paperbacks , by Laurel
Graeber, reviewer Harvey Araton describes Magic Johnson s autobiography, My Life, as best when he
shares his insights about his coaches and fellow players (Graeber). The article has positive things to

Need Of The Study Of Women
NEED OF THE STUDY
Women owned enterprises contribute 3.09 percent of industrial output and employ over 8 million
people. Approximately, 78 percent of women enterprises belong to the services sector. Women
entrepreneurship is largely skewed towards smaller sized firms, as almost 98 percent of women owned
businesses are micro enterprises. As with the broader MSME sector, access to formal finance is a key
barrier to the growth of women owned businesses, leading to over 90 percent of finance requirements
being met through informal sources. The total finance requirement of women owned MSMEs in 2012
was around Indian rupees 8.68 trillion ($158 billion).
Within the segment, small enterprises led the demand for financing: around Indian rupees 6.42 trillion
($116 billion), approximately 74 percent of the total requirement. This was mostly due to unmet
working capital and investment finance needs. Micro enterprises with a requirement of Indian rupees
2.05 trillion ($37 billion), accounted for 24 percent. Most of this requirement was largely focused
around working capital needs. Women owned medium scale enterprises, which account for 0.01
percent of the total MSME sector had finance requirements of around Indian rupees 0.21 trillion ($4
billion), about 2 percent of the total requirement. Microfinance loans for seed capital allow women
borrowers build credit habits and become more bankable. Thus, microfinance plays a key role in

through the destruction by taking the road less traveled by to obtain success. Education is the most
significant because it is the gateway to success, despite racism, violence and more, as Dr. Graham
said. We should not be afraid to venture out for success and not doubt yourself if you have delayed

Joan Of Arc And The Three Heroes Of The Present
People have many ideas and different ways of thinking of what makes a person a hero. A hero can be
defined as a person that is recognized and known for their acts of courage, has achieved a great
accomplishment or goal, or has noble qualities. According to Akbar S. Ahmed, a hero is someone who
is endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind, sets out to achieve a near impossible goal
and succeeds in the face of serious opposition (8). This research paper will analyze the acts of three
heroes from the past (pre 1700) with three heroes of the present (1950 to present). The three heroes of

Captain Smith was part of the governing council and is known for his role in establishing Jamestown
and for providing food for the settlers through trade with the Native Americans. He is also well known
for his explorations and as a cartographer. Smith s map of Virginia was considered to be the map of
the region for 60 years. According to Cooper, John Smith deserves, perhaps, a place among the iconic
founding father figures of the nation. (6). Smith was one of the original governing council members
and his explorations were a part of what shaped the nation. Cooper also stated, As a council member
in the Jamestown settlement and because of his explorations, his map, and its role in attracting settlers,
John Smith helped shape his time and the future. (6). Smith would meet Ahmed s definition of a hero
because he was endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind. The council was proving to
be ineffective so Smith stepped forward as the leader and the moving spirit (Arber, xiii) to lead the
expeditions. The colonists were suffering from malnutrition due to the lack of food, disease, and
Indian attacks. Smith set out to achieve a near impossible goal when he chose to lead the expeditions
and traded with the Indians for food, which was also dangerous and led to his capture by the Indians.
Smith was eventually spared and succeeded in becoming the leader of the settlement, all while facing

Myth Of Roman Mythology
In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger
by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture,
one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with
humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would
be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his
wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let
them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing
stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been fishing in a lagoon
of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the man killed the crocodile.
The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the water with her tail creating a
flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who had climbed up a palm tree. After
the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut off a piece of his flesh, planted it in
the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the woman and begun to repopulate the world.
The two flood myths mentioned above have a few similarities. The first is that the floods had come
from the anger of powerful beings. The first story mentions that the God Jupiter had been angry

of the work I chose was The Photographer, Getting Even, Carousel Bartender, Chandelier and Alex s

and white and is hand tinted with color oils. The subject of this art is to showcase events in everyday
life. By expressing it emotional and creativity by capturing the things many people wouldn t think that
are a realty Paint of the artwork is really has a lot of going on outside of the main attraction. In Alex s
music s room the first thing that captures your eyes is all the red in the painting and the violins, harper
and the cymbal on the floor. When you look closer into the painting you can see crazy details. Like the
lions laying around in the music room and the candles in the pieced looks as if it s a person not really
a candle. The decoration on the chandelier looks like there is really gems hanging in the art. In the art
piece Getting Even its isn t as detailed but it makes you wonder how did Schenck catch this moment
on his camera. The painting its taking place in some field of flowers. It s late at night and it looks like
a man is about to kill another person but the other human being is just standing there. I guess the
person is getting even by homicide since that s the name of the painting. The painting doesn t really
focus on the people in it. It focusses more on the scenery because its more emphasized in the painting.
The people are more a shadow and in the background I would say. My favorite painting out of the five
would have to the be the Carousel Bartender you can see it in my expression. When I was looking at
the art this was the first painting that caught my attention. The lights caught my attention since its

  • 2. Literary Differences In Kissing The Witch By Emma Donoghue Nobody made me do the things I did, nobody scolded me, nobody punished me but me. The shrill voices were all inside. Do this, do that, you lazy heap of dirt (2). Coming from the first passage of Emma Donoghue s Kissing the Witch sets a revision of popular fairy tales whereas internal voices, seen as personal experience, and their comparison to external voices, seen as societal expectations, create places where these stories change. This shift can be seen as a move away from the original well known story or aspects of that particular story, while also representing a change in the narrator of the story itself. The passage above for instance occurs when a cinderella type character is introduced to the reader. These internal voices are normally associated with the external voices of the evil stepmother and stepdaughters, which is associated widely with a common thread within the cinderella story itself. This revision flips what is normally seen as an external voice and internalizes it. A few pages later we see the girl and her interaction with the prince after he proposes marriage. The voices were shrieking, Yes yes yes say yes before you lose your chance you bag of nothingness. I opened my teeth but no sound came out (7). While the passage above set up the idea of internal voices, this passage shows how this internalized external voice is not the voice of the cinderella type narrator. Not only does this completely rewrite what is considered the normal ending for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. VT-8 Research Paper Wednesday evening June 3, aboard the carrier Hornet, Lieutenant Commander John Waldron gathered the members of Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT 8) for a briefing. VT 8 was flying the obsolete 1930 s vintage Douglas Devastators torpedo planes. They had not received a lot of flight training in their ten months in the navy. Most members had never taken off of a carrier carrying a torpedo but just six weeks earlier they had watch Doolittle s B 25 bombers take off the Hornet for the raid on Tokyo. If Doolittle s pilots could take off in a bomber, the members of VT 8 could handle taking off with a torpedo. A Japanese task force was threatening Midway Island and a battle to stop them was expected to occur tomorrow. Waldron told them not to worry about navigation but to just follow him. Sniffy the Virtual Rat, Pro Version 3.0 allows for the demonstration of Pavlovian and operant conditioning of a virtual rat. Tom Alloway, Greg Wilson, and Jeff Graham, authors of Sniffy the Virtual Rat designed this program to be an affordable alternative for students to gain access to the main phenomena of classical and operant conditioning that courses on the psychology of learning typically discuss (Jakubow, 2007). The program allows for simulations for Pavlovian conditioning such as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, stimulus intensity effects, compound conditioning, blocking, overshadowing, overexpectation, inhibition, sensory preconditioning, ... The fourth window is the Helpful Advice window, this window gives you information on Sniffy s state whether he made an association or not and instructions on what to do. Procedure We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the association between sound and food was strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the training of Sniffy to press the bar himself. Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to Continuous. The Recorded Shaping Behavior was set to Press Bar in order to begin training Sniffy to press the bar. Sniffy was first rewarded only when Sniffy would rear up facing the wall where the bar and hopper were located. Later Sniffy would be rewarded when he reared closer and ... • 5. Large Trailer Analysis Unfortunately, collisions involving large trucks and passenger vehicles are all too common on the roads throughout North Carolina. In fact, the state s Department of Transportation reported that there were more than 3,400 accidents involving semitrailers in 2013 alone. Due to the size differences between the vehicles, such collisions often result in serious injuries, or death, for the occupants of passenger vehicles. While not all trucking crashes can be avoided, there are steps that drivers can take to reduce their odds of being involved in these types of accidents. Use caution when passing It is obvious to most motorists that tractor trailers are much larger and longer than the average passenger vehicle. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety points out that it can take drivers a half mile to safely pass these large trucks. Therefore, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, truckers may have to merge into the lanes to their left in order to make some right turns. Drivers should be aware of this, and refrain from trying to squeeze in between these vehicles and the curb or other automobiles. This may help avoid serious semitrailer accidents. Avoid suddenly slowing or stopping According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, fully loaded tractor trailers can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. Due to their size and weight, these vehicles require significantly more stopping distance than passenger cars, trucks and SUVs. In ideal conditions, large trucks traveling at 55 mph need about 430 feet to stop. Consequently, truckers may not be able to adjust and stop in time to avoid a collision if drivers suddenly slow or stop in front of them. Thus, it is recommended that people be attentive to the road conditions and take precautions to avoid unexpectedly stopping when driving in front of a semitrailer. Stay out of the ... With every establishment and group there must be a sense of organization both political and social. Just as school clubs have officers, civilizations have leaders that spearhead the group. In the Stone Age, tribal leaders led the group from place to place. This nomadic lifestyle relied on experience to guide the search for food. Once settling into an agricultural lifestyle, social classes began to form based on success harvests and land ownership. In Mesopotamian culture, organization was built not only around social hierarchy with famous rulers being Sargon the Great and Hammurabi but religiously as pyramids known as Ziggurats were built to worship and sacrifice to the Gods. One is that organic food is much better than conventional food. The other is that conventional food is just as good as organic and more for your dollar. In 1983, a California professor drove to his neighbor s house to pick up his eleven year old son. He peered through the window to find the house in a state of bloody disarray. Amongst the blood was the bodies of his neighbor s family and the lifeless body of his son. Additionally, the professor Joshua Ryen who was stabbed multiple times, but still clinging to life. It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When in effect, racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil rights movements and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism. Eradicating racism all together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to make people aware of actual damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this discrimination is. One of the most impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is the television hit series titled Switched at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of white students placed cotton balls throughout the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said students were white and rich, they got away with it. This lack of punishment from authority for such a horrendous act created an uprising within the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest, but one member went on a hunger strike to gain attention. The school refused to partake in the expulsion of the students and requests of equality from the union, so the one member continued her hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment, the said member was sent to the hospital as she had passed out and almost lost her life. Cimolino effectively captured the superstitious meeting between Banquo s and Duncan s ghosts and Macbeth through spooky background music along with focused spotlighting on the ghosts and Macbeth. Lady Macbeth s line, What, quite unmann d in folly? (Shakespeare III.iv.73) and her overall emasculation of Macbeth was preserved in the script; however, Ian Lake s overly powerful Macbeth drowned out Sarah Afful s portrayal of this theme. The original play script shows a fearful and submissive Macbeth in this scene, whereas Lake s Macbeth constantly exerted his dominant presence on the stage. This presence was well complemented by the lighting and background sound used when Lake spoke to the ghosts, as it allowed for a clear differentiation between Lake s comments to the ghosts versus his communication with the other men. This scene conveyed the primary theme of Macbeth s resolve to do what is necessary to keep his throne, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proof of his death was a bag with a round lump inside that vaguely resembled a head. This approach appeared lazy and anticlimactic, as a more elaborate approach should have been taken to portray the death of Macbeth. Nonetheless, the focused spotlighting along with the well coordinated sword fight between Ian Lake s Macbeth and Michael Blake s Macduff certainly illustrated the emotions of both characters. The acoustic properties of the Stratford Festival Theatre boosted the sword s clashes, which created a dramatic scene until the two went offstage for Macbeth s death. • 19. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uav ) Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), are pilotless and non crewed aircraft that are capable of flight either by remote control or through the use of on board computers. Other names for these types of aircraft are remotely piloted vehicle (RPV), remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), and remotely operated aircraft (ROA). Drones are commonly used by the military, but are also being implemented in search and rescue operations and being utilized in other civil applications, such as policing and firefighting. The technology is also allowing for hobbyists and other enthusiasts to become avid drone operators, albeit on a relatively smaller scale. During the American Civil War, an inventor patented an unmanned balloon that carried explosives that could be dropped after a time delay fuse mechanism triggered the basket to overturn its contents. Air currents and weather patterns made it difficult to estimate for how long to set the fuse, and the balloon was never successfully deployed. By 1883, the first aerial photograph was taken using a kite, a camera and a very long string attached to the shutter release of the camera. In 1898, this technology was put to use in the Spanish American War, resulting in the first military aerial reconnaissance photos. World War I saw the development and testing of various radio controlled unmanned aircraft, but none emerged from the testing phase in time to be used before the war ended. Different Types Of Motor For A Robotic Surgery System Essay A client of Reverse engineering has given us three types of motors (DC motor, servo motor, and a stepper motor) and tasked us with determining the best application for these motors. They have also requested a recommendation of a DC motor for their newest robotic surgery system. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate these three different types of motors, to determine the most useful application for these different types of motors, and to give a recommendation of a DC motor for a robotic surgery system. The following sections of this memo will detail different aspects of the experiment. Section 2 will clearly present the results of the experiment and detail any observations. Section 3 will discuss the significance of these results and section 4 will summarize and conclude the memorandum. 2. Results and Description During the DC motor experiment, the weight trough was observed to sway side to side when ascending. On occasion, the weights would swing into the table and require the test to be run again. The stepper motor was observed to not always point exactly at one of the designated angles (angles measuring 0, 45, 90, 135 etc.). Results were gathered three different types of motors; a DC motor, servo motor, and a stepper motor. • 27. His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure revolves around images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often appears as an object to be looked at and acted upon, while the male protagonist is usually granted a more active role, both in terms of his agency in the narrative, and in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is backed up by elements of two films studied this semester: His Girl Friday by Howard Hawks (1940) and Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the main female characters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have over the females, and the way that the woman s image is used to draw attention to specific aspects of the plot. In both of these movies, the females take a subordinate and supporting role to the male figures. First, in His Girl Friday, Hildy is a newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. In the 1940s, it was customary for women to serve their men at home, and Hildy extended that with her husband to the work place. Every reporter has to answer to the editor, so Walter was Hildy s boss at home and at work. The movie opens up, and Hildy is returning from a long vacation after the divorce. Myth Of Roman Mythology In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their anger by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman culture, one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came with humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven would be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle had let them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by throwing stones behind them.
