Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques
established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation
technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone
during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is
cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set
everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there
needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation.
When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness,
however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move
out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015,
p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by
asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem
and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto
the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants
brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely.

the growth of violence perpetrated by youth gangs. On their own, local governments are often

effort, change happens. When both the public and private sectors willingly cooperate together,
deterrence of gang violence can be achieved. This paper delves into specific government programs

In today s America, Transportation and Border Security is more important than ever; with the ever
increasing threats of terrorism, illegal drug trade, immigration crises, among other things. With an
immense amount of International airports, ports of entry, and the nearly 7000 miles of border
around the country means numerous opportunities for a lapse in national security. There are a
number of agencies and initiatives in place to combat these threats, such as the Transportation
Security Administration, Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, and the various plans
/initiatives in place designed to improve national security through securing our borders.
Border Patrol The border patrol has a singular mission: Protecting our borders from the illegal
movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit .
Consisting of over 21,000 agents and established in 1924, it is one of the largest individual law
enforcement agencies within the United States, one of many agencies within the US Department of
Homeland Security.
Employing cutting edge law enforcement technology, they monitor the borders of the country via a
technique called Line Watch, which is used to detect, prevent, and/or apprehend illegal aliens,
terrorists, and smugglers by such methods as covert surveillance, responding to sensors, aircraft

Diabolical Characterization In The Open Boat
In the Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the correspondent s seems to show a change through his
nature of being a cynical man from the beginning of the story to the changed man he becomes
toward the end. I believe this change was caused by the brotherhood that was formed between the
four men along with the situation of them being lost at sea, which caused him to change and grow
as a character. I will support this claim with both textual evidence from the story and my own
character analysis of the character.
In the beginning of the Open Boat, the correspondent is portrayed as a hard bitten character that has
seen it all, and believes that no joy can be found in the world. This is hinted in the brief
introduction of his character that Crane gives us, The correspondent, pulling at the other oar,
watched the waves and wondered why he was there. (Crane 1048). We meet this character when
he is rowing the boat, something he complains about doing and is shown to detest. The
correspondent wondered ingenuously how in the name of all that was sane could there be people
who thought it amusing to row a boat. It was not an amusement; it was a diabolical punishment
(Crane 1052). What the others viewed as a small form of amusement, The correspondent made
opposite opinion known when he compared it to diabolical punishment , however even though the
