Company Ethics and Moral
Companies today have been aware that it is very important for them to enforce ethics and morality
in their actions and ideas. They know they will be profoundly analyzed and rejected by the public if
these enforcements are not their number one to facilitate wellness in society. This way of rational
thought pertains to the pharmaceutical industry. The pharmaceutical industry can regulate the
health of many lives all over the world. It becomes essential that they follow the ethical and moral
route for the good of society and to enable wellness. Pharmaceutical companies have been as easy
target of many critics over the years. There is a perception that these companies are strictly out for
profit and that they will stop at nothing to gain money... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without several of these drugs that are provided by these companies, many people would not live
healthier longer lives. Malaria, a mosquito borne parasitic disease, kills hundreds of thousands of
people a year, mainly babies in the poorest parts of sub Saharan Africa, and scientists say an
effective vaccine is key to attempts to eradicate it (Moorthy, 2013). GlaxoSmithKline, a British drug
maker has created the worlds finest malaria vaccine that after trial data shows the shot significantly
reduced the disease by 46% to 27% (Moorthy, 2013). Vaccines that are produced by pharmaceutical
companies like GSK play a very important role in society today. These vaccines stimulate and
enrich the competence of the human immune system and help prevent infectious diseases as
malaria. These preventative measures are a definite advantage to many populations, especially in
third world countries. These vaccines can be carried and transported from one place to another
with ease. With having these pharmaceutical companies, it is permitted African children to have
productive, healthier lives and most of all have a longer chance at living. GSK has made it evitable
that their best interest is for the patients of these epidemic diseases. The Bill Melinda Gates
foundation is paired with GSK as well as other pharmaceuticals to put all the investments in
vaccines and immunizations to contribute to the goals of working together to certify that these life
saving vaccines are introduced into

The Relationship Between Madness And Creativity, By...
Whether it is a natural talent or an acquired skill; writing allows artists to bring their creative
expression to life. Interestingly enough, there is a widespread belief that some writers develop their
creativity and knack for writing through suffering from a mental illness. This belief stems from past
research based on the relationship between madness and creativity, especially in the writingfield.
Katherine M. Thomas and Marshall Duke wrote the article, Depressed writing: Cognitive
distortions in the works of depressed and non depressed poets and writers. Their article focuses on
digging deeper into the relationship between madness and writing by making an in depth analysis
of writing samples from depressed writers versus the writing samples of those who weren t. Duke
and Thomas found that there is a need for analyzing works of writing because it may provide
understanding in the relationship, which will lead to an understanding of depression and mental
illness. Due to this widely known relationship, some may look at mental illness in a positive light.
This relationship may cause people to look at the distortions as simply art; thus, diminishing the
severity of mental illness. When looking at psychological distortions from an artistic perspective,
this may remove the humanity of the writer; therefore; it is important to analyze and seriously look
for the signs of cognitive distortions because it may help us understand and possibly distinguish the
relationship between

Ethanol s Environmental Impact
Charlotte Berl
Global Rough Draft
Ethanol s Affects on the Greater Market
Chain Reaction: Ethanol s Affects on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market
Since Ethanol has been introduced to American markets its use has risen. However, this change
does not just impact Ethanol production, but also the production and market of other areas that do
not directly impact Ethanol. While it is hard to pinpoint a change in market to a single thing,
Ethanol has an affect on other markets, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup. Ethanol not only has
this affect on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market, but through this also has a greater affect on
related markets such as Corn and the Sugar markets. Discovering this impact not only reveals the
positives and negatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is primarily because corn is cheaper and easier to produce and use. While this raise in
Ethanol has increased corn production and sales as a whole, it is possible it has lowered corn
production for food consumption across the states. Not only is corn used for human
consumption, but it is also used as a food for animals in factories and on farms. On top of this,
corn is also used in a popular sweetener, High Fructose Corn Syrup. If corn is being used more
for Ethanol production, will production for these categories decrease? One of the reasons it is
difficult to identify Ethanol as the cause of change in sales for each of these markets is because it
is not the only variable affecting them. There is always a group against both corn feeding of
livestock and high fructose corn syrup, which can cause both markets to

From How Soccer Explains The World Chapter Summary
The book From How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is written
by Franklin Foer and was published in 2004. The book talks about different aspects of
globalization. Franklin Foer is an American journalist who used to work as an editor of The New
Republic. He belongs to a family of writers as one of his younger brothers is a novelist and the
other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalizationon the
society. He has used soccer to elaborate the main ideas in the text and because of this link between
globalization and soccer, the book has fascinated several sports persons. Furthermore, this text is
branching out into three parts and each part scrutinizes a different aspect of globalization.... Show

Although, the author has written this book in a very humorous way and used sarcasm in certain
instances that makes a person smile while reading it, however many serious issues such as the
acceptability of globalization, how it has caused what the author defines as an American cultural
cleavage and why overall globalization failed are being discussed. The tone of the author has
generally been subtle and like mentioned before, he has used humor to lighten up the mood. The
strategy of using a friendly tone, using professional language and difficult vocabulary and
combining it with sports to address a serious problem makes this writing very interesting and
persuading but, soccer is perhaps a topic too narrow to represent

Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the worlds largest vehicle manufactures. It conducts
business worldwide and their vehicles are sold in more than 170 countries and regions. Kiichiro
Toyoda established Toyota in 1937. Toyota also has other brands including Lexus and Scion.
Last year Toyota ranked number 9 on the Global 500 list. Toyota has also been on the Global
500 list for 21 years. Since 2008, when Toyota surpassed American General Motors as the world
s largest automaker, it has remained at the top of the list. In 2014, Toyota had $18.1 billion
dollars in profit and a whopping $227 billion dollars in revenue. Toyota has always been a
company with a great image. They spend nearly $1 million dollars every hour on research and
development. Although the company was founded in Japan, it has created over 365,000 jobs in
the U.S. Toyota also ranks as a top 10 company for LGBT employees and top 50 for diversity. On
top of supporting diversity and the LGBT community, they have donated $700 million dollars to
non profit organizations. It is pretty hard these days to find a company that hasn t been unethical in
one way, shape, or form. In order to look at Toyota as an unethical company it is important to look
at their corporate philosophy as well as their guiding principles. Their corporate philosophy is,

The Importance Of Injudice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Our forefathers once said that all men were created equal, but our society does not seem to
acknowledge that message. In truth, no one is seen as an equal to another person; there is always a
partial judgmental factor that comes into play when viewing another person. As humans, it is our
nature to judge and assume things before we really understand the true meaning and value of it.
Throughout history, prejudice has been a common theme in every society, from the Romans to the
colonists. It has only been recognized as a major problem recently that was slowly tearing up the
foundation of nations around the world, creating misconceptions between people while building up
a toxic environment. Harper Lee s famous book, To Killa Mockingbird, depicts a young girl, Scout,
growing up in the Jim Crow era, trying to understand the prejudice and racism that was so
commonly used in her community. Similarly, Tim Wise
s article, No Innocence Left to Kill: Racism,
Injustice and Explaining America to My Daughter leaves people wondering how prejudice is
indirectly affecting children and their mindsets. Both authors suggest a common theme, that
prejudice affects everyone, old or young, scarring them, and creating a larger gap in society because
it isolating people from one another out of misconceptions. Both documents show that prejudice can
start influencing kids at a young age and can affecttheir mindset for the following years. In To Kill

Homeostasis
Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the way that a system functions to control and maintain the body s physiological
systems. This system consists of:
Stimulus: This is what causes the change of the variable.
Variables: This is what changes to cause the systems out of equilibrium. This could be things such
as: blood glucose levels, body temperature, salt levels, ph levels, blood pressure.
Receptor: This is what detects the change. (pancreas)
Control Centre: This is what decides what to do about the change
Effector: This is the solution to maintain internal levels back to them optimum or equilibrium level.
Homeostasis is carried out in two ways: Negative feedback and Positive feedback. In a feedback
loop the product of a process, has an effect on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means when blood glucose levels rise above the optimum level, the organ s cells can t
absorb the glucose into the cells, and the liver can t convert it into glycogen to store, like it
usually would if insulin were present. (5) Type 2 diabetes is when the body doesn t recognize
the insulin and therefore cannot spread the glucose out of the blood to the rest of the body s
organs. As a result of the high levels of glucose, the pancreas (The Detector) detects this and as a
result produces more insulin to help it spread through the body and lower the blood glucose levels.
This keeps happening and is an example of a negative feedback system until the it eventually shuts
down and no longer is produced. Both types of diabetes cause a disruption in the homeostatic
process

Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection And Acquired...
Introduction:
Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS)
is a pandemic which infects the human immune system with the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV).1 The term HIV/AIDS describes the entire cascade and progression of disease from the
initial infection with HIV to the later, more severe stage of AIDS. It is a global pandemic that affects
35 million people (2013) worldwide and 35, 287 people in Australia. 2,3 Dentists need to be
acknowledgeable of this rapidly spreading disease and understand how to manage patients with HIV
/AIDS.
The human immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus (retrovirus), which attacks Helper T cells,
specifically CD4 lymphocytes causing the progressive deterioration of the immune system.4
Initially when HIV is contracted, there is a period if 2 to 6 weeks called seroconversion where HIV
antibodies are not detectable. During this period the patient may experience flu like symptoms due
to the initial immune reaction.4 Next, there is a clinical, asymptomatic phase, which can last up to
10 years, and during this time the CD4 count decreases, causing gradual immunodeficiency. This
lead to opportunistic infections such as oral candidiasis (thrush).4 Eventually, the AIDS stage of the
disease is reached and there are more serious opportunistic infections and malignancies.
HIV is mainly transmitted by unprotected intercourse sexual intercourse, vaginal, anal or oral sex.
However it can also be transmitted by

Deviant Behavior Analysis
One current even from the news that I am going to discuss regarding deviant behavior is last
week s shooting of the news crew in Roanoke, Virginia. I chose this for several different reasons.
This happened close to where I live, my husband was one of many Special Agents who responded
to this, and it is something that I am sure most of you all have heard about. When talking about
these deviant acts, shooting and killing two people and then himself, I feel that one theory that
explains this behavior is the extension of the structural and anomie theory, which is known as
strain theories. To be more precise, I feel that this behavior is both the second and third type of
strain. The second strain according to Franzese (2009, p. 43), occurs

Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About...
Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About Human Responsibility for the World
The Bible contains many teachings about our human responsibility towards the created world.
It talks about the start of creation in Genesis. Here it is made clear that human beings are made
in the image of God so that they can continue his good work. At the outset they are given power
over the rest of creation and now if all humans work together to make the world a better place they
will be more powerful so it will happen, but even if just a few people are not willing to help then all
will fall apart (see poster).
The other implication here is that the power comes with responsibility. The role of human beings...

Unfortunately, the people most affected are those who are poorer. The greed and pollution of
people in the Northern Hemisphere is having a serious impact on global warming and the worst
effects f this are experienced not by us in the Northern Hemisphere but by those in the Southern
Hemisphere. These people, already living in great poverty, then suffer even greater problems in
terms of severe droughts, famines, flooding etc., which leaves them even poorer. The Biblemakes it
quite clear that in terms of looking after the world, we have a duty not only to look after the
environment but also to look after our fellow human beings. Hence the most important teaching,
Love thy neighbour as yourself . Jesus made it quite clear in the story he told about the Good
Samaritan that our neighbour is anyone and everyone who is in need, even our enemy, irrespective
of their race/colour/religion.
Another important teaching, called one body many parts, makes it clear that human beings
physically make up the body of God here on Earth. We are therefore his hands; his feet etc and
therefore we should do what he would do himself if he were physically present. What we should
do is look after our neighbour. Furthermore, if just some of us, (one tiny bit of the body) does not
do what it is supposed to do then everyone else will be weakened. We must work together in

Identifying Substances Lab Report
Identifying Substances Using Properties Purpose: To identify unknown substances by observing
their physical and chemical properties (e.g. colour, state, clarity, crystal shape, behaviour in water,
behaviour in acid), and comparing them to the physical and chemical properties of known
substances. Hypothesis: I predict that by observing and testing the properties, as well as comparing
them to those of known substances, we can identify all 5 of the unknown substances. I think this
will happen because every substance has a physical and/or chemical property or properties that
differentiates it from other substances, no matter how similar. For example, baking powder and
baking soda. These two substances are similar physically white, powdery,... Show more content on

I almost mistook the sodium nitrate for salt because they also have similar chemical and
physical traits they are both solid, white, clear, soluble in water, and dissolves in acid. However
the sodium nitrate has crystal shape which is granular, and that is different from salt s crystal
form, which is cubic. That is how I confirmed that sample C was sodium nitrate. Sample D was
identified as sodium thiosulphate because of a chemical property its reaction to acid. When the
two drops of hydrochloric acid was added, the sodium nitrate turned cloudy and yellow, which is
a distinct trait of sodium thiosulphate. I did not mistake this substance for any other substance
because its reaction with acid is what confirmed that it was sodium thiosulphate. Sample E was
identified as chalk because of its behaviour in water, also known as its solubility. After the two
drops of water were added to the chalk, and it was mixed, with a clean toothpick we saw that
sample E did not mix with the water. Chalk is the only solid, out of the five, that is insoluble. I
almost mistook sample E for baking soda because the two substances have very similar physical
traits. Both substances are white, solid, opaque and a powder. However, chalk s reaction to water
and acid is different from baking soda. The chalk is insoluble with water, and its reaction with acid
is that it fizzes and some dissolves. Meanwhile, baking soda is soluble with water, and

The Excitement of Gaming Turned into an Addiction
Change is the alteration which results in an important shift in the way we perceive and interact

positive or negative. Being the best student was something I never had to worry or wish for due

My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald
I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the
opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up
to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were
given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down
the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After
everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to
end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we
finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and
turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field
and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the
closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked myself in the room like a petulant child.
Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to see what everyone else was up to.
All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had been taken off of the trailer.
Helmets were promptly passed out and my brothers slung their legs over the bikes and were gone.
Not about to be left behind, I jumped on my ATV and I was on their trail. The trails were newly
cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a

Masculinity In The Fight Club
I am planning to write about the 1999 film Fight Club directed by David Fincher. This movie is
about a nameless insomniac office worker (the narrator) who has became, as he views, a slave
to consumer culture. He begins attending support groups for diseases he doesn t have to subdue
his emotional state, and he begins to sleep again. He meets Marla Singer, another fake attendee
of support groups, she is an incredibly mysterious woman who is obviously a bit crazy, yet the
narrator seems drawn to her. On a flight for his job, the narrator meets the character Tyler
Durden, a hip, stylish man who sells soap for a living. When the narrator s apartment blows up,
he calls Tyler and begins to live with him. The two start a men only underground fight club,
which takes the place of the narrators attendance of support groups in emotional aid. However
the two men soon spiral out of control, battling for the love of Marla and power. The narrator
finds out that Tyler has turned the fight club into an anti capitalism domestic terrorist group called
Project Mayhem and Tyler is planning on blowing up credit card companies to reset debt. The
narrator however realizes that Tyler was created from his imagination and him and Tyler are the
same person. The narrator manages to stop Tyler and his plan to end debt. I wanted to focus on two
main points, one being the messages of masculinity in the film and the other the anti consumer
messages it sends. I wonder what effect this movie has had on

Without a detailed examination of the financial reporting practices and related disclosures of each
company, it is difficult to draw conclusions about the degree to which the P/E ratio differences
might be related to differences in earnings quality. Concerns about earnings quality have
occasionally surfaced in financial press articles on each company.
Absent information about investors earnings quality concerns, it is likely to be the case that most
of the variation in P/E ratios is due to differences in growth opportunities and (to a lesser extent)
risk.

had to close down some of the stores due to high crime rates in those areas, maintaining a healthy
relationship with the community in the area they are located is essential for the success of the

Building trust within the company is a major success factor because the employees are also
members of this community. They needto be able to have pride in the company they work for and
speak highly of the company when they are not at work. Offering ethics training, a code of
conduct, and just generally taking the time to work out this issue will increase profits while
decreasing any possible theft from the business. Once internal issues are resolved with
employees, the company then needs to work on supplying to the grocery stores in certain area
affordable products. The company needs to be supplying the stores with products that are cost
efficient for the area they are being sold in. The community will look at this in a positive way
because the stores are providing products that are affordable to them and not making them feel
unworthy because they can t afford the products in the store. This will also increase the number of
customers that would visit the stores and the rate of customers returning would increase as well.
This will not only help increase sales within the stores depending on locations, but it will also
decrease the amount of products that would have to be discarded. Finally, the store needs to
participate in community programs that are going to benefit the community overall. Donating to

Introduction
The rate of a reaction is the speed at which the chemical reaction is taking place (Merriam
Webster). There are many factors that can affect the rate of a reaction, such as adding heat to speed
up the reaction rate, removing heat to slow it down, change in concentration, and the particle size.
A reversible reaction is a reaction in which reactants form products. This theory was initially
introduced by French chemist Claude Louis Berthollet in 1803 (Encyclopedia Britannica). If a
reaction is in equilibrium, then it is making products and reactants at the same time. Le Chatlier s
Principle can be used to determine the effect of changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When Hurricane Katrina slammed onto the gulf shores of Louisiana in 2005, few people

dollars of damage, displaced 250,000 residents and killed over 1800 lives, most being African

The first lesson was that all federal agency personnel must understand the roles and responsibilities
they have when a natural disaster strikes (Menzel, 2006). In addition and most importantly, they
must all be aware of the situation on the ground and work together to share a common operating
strategy when an incident occurs (Menzel, 2006). These lessons led to the formation of the
National Operations Center to deal with a natural disaster or catastrophic crisis.
Hurricane Katrina revealed the difference in preparedness programs that citizens had based on the

Analysis Of Sunsets And Sunsets
In the poems, She sweeps with many Colored Brooms , by Emily Dickenson, and Sunsets , by Carl
Sandburg; the authors compare sunset to women. The beauty of sunset is the central in both poems
however, they each contain different ideas about sunset. For example, Dickenson, focuses more on
the beauty of sunsetwhile, Sandburg, compares a sunset to a womans demeanor, and brings out the
different kinds of ways the sunsets. In the poem, by Emily Dickenson she compares sunset to a
housewife. The poem cites She sweeps with many colored brooms [line 1 2], the quote is
portraying the true beauty of a housewife s chores. It is also indirectly referring to the rays of a
sunset. A diligent woman sews her own beautiful garments. She uses all different colors and
types of thread to sew each of her garments. The colorfulness of the thread can compare to a
magnificent sunset. The poem quotes, And now you ve littered all the East, with duds of
emerald! [line 7 8]. Literarily, this is referring to the threads and clothes that litter a woman s
home. However, Dickenson is referring to the sun setting east, and shining its glow onto the
world. The author, uses emerald to portray this beautiful scene since, emerald is a considered a
beautiful stone. In the poem Sunsets , by Carl Sandburg, he compares a woman s demeanor to
sunset. A woman naturally carries a major role in life, and is also considered a symbol of beauty
and elegance. The poem states Ribbon at the ears, sashes at

George S. Patton s Accomplishments
George S. Patton
George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military leaders in the
history of the United States. His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico
throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position
of always leading from the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders
considered him too controversial and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his
determination and success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of
America s war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history.
At a young age George S. Patton knew he wanted to be in the military. His ancestors had served in
the American Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. (Randall and Nahr iii) This is
largely the reason behind his intense determination and drive. Fueled off their tales of bravery
and heroic endeavors, he never had a doubt that he was going to live the life of a military hero.
Despite a learning disability, many believe he had dyslexia, he would go onto to attend the Virginia
Military Institute and ultimately graduate from West Point. Upon his graduation he achieved the
rank of 2nd lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The years after his graduation
were eventful for George Patton. He participated in the 1912 Olympics in a variety of sports. He
trained in fencing in France and was

Eukaryotic And Prokaryotic Of Cells
There are two major groups that cells can be grouped into to. These are eukaryotic and prokaryotic
cells. All eukaryotic cells contain a plasma membrane, as well as cytoplasm and organelles such as
mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, smooth ER, ribosomes, a
nucleus which is surrounded by a double membrane known as the nuclear envelope, and secretory
vesicles. There are some eukaryotic cells which contain more organelles as well as theses. Some
eukaryotic cells, specifically in plants, have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are organelles that contain
stacks of granum known as thylakoid stacks. The granum contains chlorophyll, and the first stage of
photosynthesis occurs here. Some eukaryotic cells contain centrioles, which are strands of protein
involved in the process of mitosis and meiosis. Pant cells have a cellwall made from cellulose. This
prevents the cell from bursting from too much water uptake via osmosis. Fungi do not have
chloroplasts. They do have a cell wall like plant cells, but whereas the cell walls in the plant cells
are made from cellulose, the cell wall in a fungal cell is made from chitin. This is a polymer made
from N acetylglucosamine. Prokaryote is the name of a kingdom for organisms, and all bacteriafall
into this kingdom. The prokaryote kingdom is enormous, and prokaryotes are found in every
known habitat on the planet. Bacteria are very useful, they can be used in biomedical sciences to

The TMC (Toyota Motor Company) identified an untapped market in the US in the 1970 s when

a market the Big Three were not equipped to meet. Toyota and other Japanese car manufactures

Theme Of Immature In Romeo And Juliet
Even though they have made many immature mistakes (like marrying only after knowing each
other less than twenty four hours), Romeo and Juliet have matured throughout the play because
they have both put each other before themselves, they both have been more aware and
considerate of other people instead of being vain and inconsiderate, and they both have tried to
control their own fates instead of letting fate control them. In the first and second acts, both
Romeo and Juliet are childish and immature. First, Romeo keeps sulking over the fact that
Rosaline doesn t love him back. When the devout religion of mine eye Maintains such
falsehood, then turn tears to fires; and these, who, often drowned, could never die, Transparent
heretics, be burnt for liars! One fairer than my love? The all seeing sun Ne er saw her match

love for he has for Rosaline, which is like a religion, is changed because he finds someone more
beautiful than her, let his tears turn to fire and his eyes be burned. Moreover, this just shows
how immature Romeo is in the first Act. Juliet is also immature in the first and second acts of
the play. I ll look to like, if looking liking move;/ But no more deep will I endart mine eye/ Than
your consent gives strength to make it fly (Romeo and Juliet 1.3:98 100). In this quote, Juliet that

Review Of Cybersecurity Risks Of Medical Device Software
REVIEW OF CYBERSECURITY RISKS OF MEDICAL DEVICE SOFTWARE
SURESH K. VELUPULA

Nowadays, more and more medical devices are increasingly being converted or replaced from
electro mechanical devices to software controlled networked devices. Software for these medical
devices would need to be kept to update to keep up with the security (worms and viruses) concerns
and governing regulations while not risking the health of the patient. In this paper the author
analyzes the viewpoints and presents a review of the paper: Inside Risks: Controlling for
Cybersecurity Risks of Medical Device Software (Fu and Blum, 2013). Fu and Blum (2013)
give their views on the cybersecurity risks associated with the medical devices. Some of their
key points are: a) medical devices depend on software for providing care and services. b)
Security risks could cause harm to the patient. c) Post market surveillance of the medical device
is required. d) Health data integrity and availability of patient care are crucial as compared to
hacking of medical devices. e) Provide incentives to user facilities to report security vulnerabilities
and security incidents. f) Manufacturers should consider cybersecurity during design phase of the
medical device. g) Match the underlying software life cycles with the lifecycle of the medical
device. h) Standards and regulations to protect cybersecurity would need to be created and enforced

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Panoptic Analysis
In Ken Kasey s book One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, a panoptic system is heavily in place in a
psychiatric hospital being run by a charge nurse called Nurse Rachet. Rachet is very mean and
intimidating almost in a sociopathic manner; Rachet threatens to send any misbehaving patients to
the shock shop, where electroconvulsive therapy is presented upon a patient in a torturous manner.
Rachet can also send patients to the lobotomy center, where needles will go down into a patient s
eye to scrape away at their brains as a form of punishment. This puts the patients in fear every
moment of the day as to whether they will be rated out on by other patients and sent to the shock

You can physically see and know that she is in the hospital, but you never know when she will
read the logbook, when she will talk to patient and when she will talk to the orderlies. This creates
a panoptic environment, which verifies that Michael Foucault s panoptican theory is true but not
ultimately perfect because of other underwritten circumstances such as cruel and unusual
punishment. In a perfect world panopticans have a certain degree of power, with one person
being the central power that sees everything; and has the ultimate control over everyone in the
institution. All panopticans are not perfect though, just like a pyramid or Ponzi scheme; a
panoptican in any shape or form will be destined to collapse and fall hard! The person running the
panoptican will lose their power like a cult leader whose cult just collapsed and lost everything. A
panoptican will never be the answer to society s problems. Foucault even says that a panoptican is
not perfect; the system of panoptic institutions does not work the way we think it does. The idea of
a circular shaped building, so that everyone can be watched and kept under constant control; with
the fear of getting caught doing something wrong and being punished. Will fear almost anyone who

The Rational Way Of Life
The Rational Way of Life
Epictetus Stoic Recommendation of Freedom
Freedom is an arbitrary concept that has been and will always be limited. The notion of freedom is
possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist,
believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that
humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be
internally free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in
complete control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of
what they cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has
been lost through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus
defines is an internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic
recommendation offers a simple yet rational approach of living life freely.
Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion
provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. Arendt
states that the Founding Fathers of America equated law based on public opinion with tyranny; in
this sense, democracy was to them a new form of despotism. Paradoxical as it may sound, it was in
fact under the impact of the Revolution that the revolutionary spirit in America

Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants
Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques
established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation
technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone
during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is
cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set
everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there
needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation.
When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness,
however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move
out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015,
p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by
asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem
and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto
the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants
brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely.

Re:Demand Response Programs for MISO and ERCOT
Introduction
This memo provides details on behind the meter generation (BTMG), and demand response
program for Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Electric Reliability Council
of Texas (ERCOT). Demand response is the change in electric usage by the end user from their
normal consumption patterns in response to changes in the price of electricity over time, or to
incentive payments designed to induce lower electricity use at times of high wholesale market
prices or when system reliability is at risk . Demand response can be provided by either by
continuously controllable loads or with BTMG. A market participant is compensated by
Independent System Operator s (ISO s) for providing demand response. The following information
gives details on the demand response program categories and behind the meter (BTM) generators
participating in these programs.
MISO
MISO manages a multi state region with an annual peak load of 105,000 MW. It designs and
implements wholesale markets for the Midwest region and produces an annual system planning
report. MISO issues a document on demand response entitled, Business Practices Manual: Demand

Under Italian Law two main types of company may be incorporated: S.p.A. (SocietГ per Azioni)
and S.r.l. (SocietГ a responsabilitГ limitata). S.p.A. is the normal form for larger companies (joint
stock companies). An S.p.A. may be listed on the Stock Exchange although the absolute majority
are not. It is however necessary for a company to be an S.p.A. in order to be listed thereon. S.r.l.
in practice corresponds to a closely held limited company. It is the kind of structure which is more
suited to small tomedium sized enterprises where limited liability is required. This is by far the
most common type of company used by Italian entrepreneurs and that most frequently chosen by
foreign parent companies when setting up their subsidiaries in Italy. The governance structure of
corporations is twotired: the managing board (consiglio di amministrazione) has the function of
ratifying decisions that have been previously taken by the controlling group, and is supplemented
by a board of auditors (collegio sindacale) who are responsible for internal monitoring. Directors
can either be executive or nonexecutive and there is only a limited number of external directors.

addition, information is generally scarce and incomplete. Even though board members and
managers are supposed to use the agent s diligence in the management of the company,

Collaborative Project Final Report

School of Public Affairs
Author Note This project was prepared for PAD 6934 Collaborative Governance, taught by
Professor Robin Ersing.
Abstract
In recent times, public officials, community groups and activists have expressed their concern over
the growth of violence perpetrated by youth gangs. On their own, local governments are often
restricted not only by budgetary constraints, but operating knowledge. There is evidence that when
public officials and community groups are engaged, empowered and enlightened in a collaborative
effort, change happens. When both the public and private sectors willingly cooperate together,
deterrence of gang violence can be achieved. This paper delves into specific government programs
that studies and provides information on gang violence. This information brings forward specific
limitations and recommendations that a continued collaborative effort can deter youth gang
violence.
Issue and Goal
When addressing public safety issues, one might assume that the most obvious approach
encompasses an elementary and uncomplicated strategy involving strictly law enforcement
practitioners. A seemingly straightforward approach however is in actuality nonexistent. While
allocating additional resources (like personnel and physical security assets)

Essay Psychological Causes of Depression
Psychological Causes of Depression The actual causes of depression are still unknown today but
there are a few theories that could help explain them. It is widely believed by psychologists and
scientists that all mental disorders are brought about by a complex correlation of psychological,
biological, and social factors. A serious loss, chronic illness, relationship problem, work stress,
family crisis, financial setback, or any unwelcome life change can ignite a depressive disorder
(Psychologyinfo.com). Depression is a serious disorder in the United States and has only become
more prevalent among individuals as their lives become more stressful and overwhelming. One

An assortment of psychological factors appears to play a part in the susceptibility to these
unrelenting types of depression. People who have low self esteem, are not optimistic, and
readily overwhelmed by stress, are prone to depression (Grohol, 2006). More than likely, these
psychological factors are completely accountable for other forms of mild and moderate
depression, particularly reactive depression. Reactive depression is generally diagnosed as an
adjustment disorder during treatment. Social learning factors also demonstrate why
psychological complications appear to occur more regularly in family members, throughout
generations. For example, if a child is raised in a pessimistic household, in which discouragement
is frequent and encouragement is not, the child will establish a vulnerability to depression as
well. (Psychologyinfo.com., et al). Recently, researchers have found that physical changes in the
body can be paired with psychological changes as well. Medical ailments such as a cancer,
Parkinson s disease, stroke, heart attack, and hormonal disorders can bring about a depressive
illness. This can result in the ill person to feel unconcerned with their health and be unwilling to
further care for their physical needs. In addition, any stressful change, financial problems,
relationship problems, or serious loss can activate a depressive affair (Grohol, 2006). Depression is
a serious growing problem in the United

Reflection Paper On Identity
A person s life is made up of an impossibly unique combination of moments, interactions, and
relationships, all of which amalgamate to create a human with an identity unlike any other in the
world. When looking at a person s life up close, it almost appears as if their identity is something
that has been relatively constant throughout their life, however, if a person s life is looked at a
through a more holistic perspective, it s easier to see how specific events, people, and relationships
in their life made them who they are today. For this assignment, I was tasked with conducting in
depth interviews pertaining to life experiences and identities with another member of the class.
Through the interview process, hidden sentiments arose, truths were revealed, and I had the
opportunity to see the different ways in which my identity was formed. In analyzing these
interviews, I found that through using the works of influential identity theorists, Daniel J. Canary,
Michael J. Cody, Valerie L. Manusov, Jan E. Stets, and Peter J. Burke, I was able to dissect my
interview and correlate specific instances of my past to aspects of my current identity, specifically
my independent, selfassured, and open minded disposition. The first identity theory that will be
looked at is Canary et al s The Four Cognitive Processes. There are many facets to this theory, but
some prominent aspects that will be looked at are those of schema, familystructure, and stereotypes.

enlightened thinkers. Leonardo da Vinci finished Mona Lisa during the 16th century. Michelangelo
carved his Statue of David. (World History Timeline: 16th Century) Around the world people were
starting to think for themselves. Unfortunately rulers, kings, and leaders didn t like that. So, in
order to prevent rebellious actions towards their governments, leaders created strict laws. Most
people didn t like that, so they chose to move. As they traveled, they carried ideas with them.
Some Europeans were exploring the world. They reached land that they haven t seen, and their
ideas spread. (World History Timeline: 16th Century) People were influenced by others, religious
ideas and structures spread as well. Different types of religions were spreading. Religions such as
Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and many more. A significant religious leader in the Catholic
Church was Pope Julius II. His papacy was marked by an active foreign policy, beautiful projects
of buildings, and patronage for the arts. (European Religion During the Early 16th Century)
Europeans reached a foreign land, which is known as Indonesia. They arrived in Indonesia in the
beginning of the 16th century and discovered valuable goods in Maluku. They were determined to

Developing A Schedule. Where Do You Begin To Prepare Your
Developing a schedule
Where do you begin to prepare your advertising schedule? The best point of reference is the
creative or advertising brief. Here, you will be given a direction on how long the campaign should
run for, when it should begin and when it should end, along with other relevant information. You
may choose to run it over days, weeks, months or even years.
Regardless of which option you select, the length and timing of the campaign will be determined by
the targets set by the original brief and the budget.
If there is any doubt about how long the campaign should run for, it is best to go back to the team
that created the original brief and seek clarification.
The next step in developing the schedule is to ensure that your ... Show more content on

The account executive debriefs the art director and copywriter, who then direct the assembly of the
ad. This may require a fashion shoot by a reputable fashion photographer, a model, make up artist,
wardrobe artist, props, and lighting assistants.
The finished artwork is assembled digitally in the digital studio by a graphic designer, under the
direction of the art director. Once the ad is completed and proofed, it goes back to the client for
final approval and sign off. The production department sends the approved ad directly to the
magazine, electronically, to their production department.
The double page ad appears in the December edition of the magazine.
As shown in the example above, there are a lot of moving parts to producing a simple ad. With so
many moving parts, there are a number of opportunities for things to go wrong or fall behind
schedule, this is why proper planning and scheduling, along with constant follow up with each of
the people involved in the process, is critical to the success of any advertising campaign.

The present system that is done with manual pickers runs at a rate of 360 books an hour ( 8
pickers spread over two shifts) at the new rate of 720 books an hour the system could run 24hrs
a day and handle the projected work load of 14400 books per day. The storage capacity is more
than adequate for the new system. To handle the new work load manually Cango would have to
employ 16 pickers across three shifts to accommodate the increase in demand. There would need to
be extra terminals added.
Though the projections for the fall quarter look promising the resurge us of books and CD s is
unlikely. Recent reports have sales of books falling as much as 34% over last year and the increase
of eBooks over 300%. (Wolman, 2011) It also has CD sales being cut in half over the past decade.
The rise of people buying digital music and streaming music is significant.
Without question the new technology can be paid for by this fall s increase in revenues alone. At
1.5 million per system, it takes 3 million to install the systems. Our revenues projected for the fall
is 31 million with net income being approximately 10% of sales revenue the investment will be
paid back almost immediately. The question still remains if it makes sense long term.
If traditional book sales continue to fall at their present rate of 34% annually we will be out of the
traditional books selling in three years. The CD sales are declining at a similar rate.

Argument In Favor Of Animal Testing
I doubt that anyone has ever heard of the dog named libby, who was rescued from a testing
facility, run by the Professional laboratory and Research Services inc. This corporation ran test
on a multitude of animals, no species was safe. All animals from dogs like libby, to cats ,
bunnies, rats and mice, and many others. Before libby was called libby, she was known by the
number that was tattooed to her ear. She was sick with hook and tapeworms and had a multiple
of infections. She was also locked in dark cages. And on top of all of that; Staff screamed
obscenities and physically abused the animals in their care. This story is a fact of an animal testing

Returning to the discussion of biofabrication, Me , not even being a professional scientist, can see
the implication of bio fabricated tissues into such research. There are also studies going on, known
as vitro methods, when they take certain human cells, and recreate them for testing. So test like
irritation to the skin and other tissues could be tested on fabricated cells instead of having live
animals suffer. That is an answer for tests which deal with the exterior such as cosmetic testing on
animals. But how about advanced animal testing, such as research for cures for parkinson s ,
Alzheimer s, and others? I m sorry to say that I have found no such alternative of animal testing,
other than human volunteers who have whatever they are trying to cure. For medical research
towards cures for problems like mental diseases, animal testing, is somewhat of a need. It s very
unrealistic to assume that there would be enough human volunteers to fully find a cure to mental
illnesses, because most people, just want to be healed, with no ifs, ands, or buts. So animal research
becomes relevant, when the demand is high. So when I say that

Cultural Interview Paper
Culture is defined as the boundary between different people from different ends of the earth. For

I found my interview subject relatively fast and I sat down and asked the questions. I found my
subject from my boss I interviewed my bosses boyfriends sister and we went at it. Her name was

such as her hand placement and eye contact me; she was willing to be friendly to me. She was

Dilemma Of Informed Consent
Currently, there are nearly as many human biological samples stored in the United States as there
are people in the United States, and many of the sources of the samples remain unknown because
informed consent was not previously required. The main dilemma between informed consent and
scientists lies within the ethics and practicality of research on tissue removed from a patient s
body for surgical purposes. Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. In recent
years, the HeLa cell line and the cells backstory have precipitated outrage towards how the tissue
was obtained, managed, and the inadequacy of informed consent from Henrietta Lacks and her
family. Since then, other cases have become public regarding the lack... Show more content on

The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and
understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention,
including clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed
consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they
understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed
consent). The definition goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of
the patient; however, tissue removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned.
Consequently, a gray area emerges and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and
what is practical. The ethical side corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or
her tissue. Although, again, there are not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues
removed from the body. The practical side relates to the cost of future research and patient
confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue samples to the original patient. The practicality
of voiding using consent forms, in terms of tissue, eliminates the confusion within the scientific
community, reduces additional cost burdens and decreases potential privacy breaches to the
original patient. Scientists, including David Korn,

The Importance Of Transportation And Border Security
In today s America, Transportation and Border Security is more important than ever; with the ever
increasing threats of terrorism, illegal drug trade, immigration crises, among other things. With an
immense amount of International airports, ports of entry, and the nearly 7000 miles of border
around the country means numerous opportunities for a lapse in national security. There are a
number of agencies and initiatives in place to combat these threats, such as the Transportation
Security Administration, Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, and the various plans
/initiatives in place designed to improve national security through securing our borders.
Border Patrol The border patrol has a singular mission: Protecting our borders from the illegal
movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit .
Consisting of over 21,000 agents and established in 1924, it is one of the largest individual law
enforcement agencies within the United States, one of many agencies within the US Department of
Homeland Security.
Employing cutting edge law enforcement technology, they monitor the borders of the country via a
technique called Line Watch, which is used to detect, prevent, and/or apprehend illegal aliens,
terrorists, and smugglers by such methods as covert surveillance, responding to sensors, aircraft
sightings, and interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence. These, along

Diabolical Characterization In The Open Boat
In the Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the correspondent s seems to show a change through his
nature of being a cynical man from the beginning of the story to the changed man he becomes
toward the end. I believe this change was caused by the brotherhood that was formed between the
four men along with the situation of them being lost at sea, which caused him to change and grow
as a character. I will support this claim with both textual evidence from the story and my own
character analysis of the character.
In the beginning of the Open Boat, the correspondent is portrayed as a hard bitten character that has
seen it all, and believes that no joy can be found in the world. This is hinted in the brief
introduction of his character that Crane gives us, The correspondent, pulling at the other oar,
watched the waves and wondered why he was there. (Crane 1048). We meet this character when
he is rowing the boat, something he complains about doing and is shown to detest. The
correspondent wondered ingenuously how in the name of all that was sane could there be people
who thought it amusing to row a boat. It was not an amusement; it was a diabolical punishment
(Crane 1052). What the others viewed as a small form of amusement, The correspondent made
opposite opinion known when he compared it to diabolical punishment , however even though the
correspondent has made his hatred known for rowing. He is shown to be willing to do it to the
point of exhaustion so he could allow his fellow

  • 2. Company Ethics and Moral Companies today have been aware that it is very important for them to enforce ethics and morality in their actions and ideas. They know they will be profoundly analyzed and rejected by the public if these enforcements are not their number one to facilitate wellness in society. This way of rational thought pertains to the pharmaceutical industry. The pharmaceutical industry can regulate the health of many lives all over the world. It becomes essential that they follow the ethical and moral route for the good of society and to enable wellness. Pharmaceutical companies have been as easy target of many critics over the years. There is a perception that these companies are strictly out for profit and that they will stop at nothing to gain money... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without several of these drugs that are provided by these companies, many people would not live healthier longer lives. Malaria, a mosquito borne parasitic disease, kills hundreds of thousands of people a year, mainly babies in the poorest parts of sub Saharan Africa, and scientists say an effective vaccine is key to attempts to eradicate it (Moorthy, 2013). GlaxoSmithKline, a British drug maker has created the worlds finest malaria vaccine that after trial data shows the shot significantly reduced the disease by 46% to 27% (Moorthy, 2013). Vaccines that are produced by pharmaceutical companies like GSK play a very important role in society today. These vaccines stimulate and enrich the competence of the human immune system and help prevent infectious diseases as malaria. These preventative measures are a definite advantage to many populations, especially in third world countries. These vaccines can be carried and transported from one place to another with ease. With having these pharmaceutical companies, it is permitted African children to have productive, healthier lives and most of all have a longer chance at living. GSK has made it evitable that their best interest is for the patients of these epidemic diseases. The Bill Melinda Gates foundation is paired with GSK as well as other pharmaceuticals to put all the investments in vaccines and immunizations to contribute to the goals of working together to certify that these life saving vaccines are introduced into ... • 3. The Relationship Between Madness And Creativity, By... Whether it is a natural talent or an acquired skill; writing allows artists to bring their creative expression to life. Interestingly enough, there is a widespread belief that some writers develop their creativity and knack for writing through suffering from a mental illness. This belief stems from past research based on the relationship between madness and creativity, especially in the writingfield. Katherine M. Thomas and Marshall Duke wrote the article, Depressed writing: Cognitive distortions in the works of depressed and non depressed poets and writers. Their article focuses on digging deeper into the relationship between madness and writing by making an in depth analysis of writing samples from depressed writers versus the writing samples of those who weren t. Duke and Thomas found that there is a need for analyzing works of writing because it may provide understanding in the relationship, which will lead to an understanding of depression and mental illness. Due to this widely known relationship, some may look at mental illness in a positive light. This relationship may cause people to look at the distortions as simply art; thus, diminishing the severity of mental illness. When looking at psychological distortions from an artistic perspective, this may remove the humanity of the writer; therefore; it is important to analyze and seriously look for the signs of cognitive distortions because it may help us understand and possibly distinguish the relationship between ... • 4. Ethanol s Environmental Impact Charlotte Berl Global Rough Draft Ethanol s Affects on the Greater Market Chain Reaction: Ethanol s Affects on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market Since Ethanol has been introduced to American markets its use has risen. However, this change does not just impact Ethanol production, but also the production and market of other areas that do not directly impact Ethanol. While it is hard to pinpoint a change in market to a single thing, Ethanol has an affect on other markets, such as High Fructose Corn Syrup. Ethanol not only has this affect on the High Fructose Corn Syrup Market, but through this also has a greater affect on related markets such as Corn and the Sugar markets. Discovering this impact not only reveals the positives and negatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is primarily because corn is cheaper and easier to produce and use. While this raise in Ethanol has increased corn production and sales as a whole, it is possible it has lowered corn production for food consumption across the states. Not only is corn used for human consumption, but it is also used as a food for animals in factories and on farms. On top of this, corn is also used in a popular sweetener, High Fructose Corn Syrup. If corn is being used more for Ethanol production, will production for these categories decrease? One of the reasons it is difficult to identify Ethanol as the cause of change in sales for each of these markets is because it is not the only variable affecting them. There is always a group against both corn feeding of livestock and high fructose corn syrup, which can cause both markets to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. From How Soccer Explains The World Chapter Summary The book From How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is written by Franklin Foer and was published in 2004. The book talks about different aspects of globalization. Franklin Foer is an American journalist who used to work as an editor of The New Republic. He belongs to a family of writers as one of his younger brothers is a novelist and the other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalizationon the society. He has used soccer to elaborate the main ideas in the text and because of this link between globalization and soccer, the book has fascinated several sports persons. Furthermore, this text is branching out into three parts and each part scrutinizes a different aspect of globalization.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, the author has written this book in a very humorous way and used sarcasm in certain instances that makes a person smile while reading it, however many serious issues such as the acceptability of globalization, how it has caused what the author defines as an American cultural cleavage and why overall globalization failed are being discussed. The tone of the author has generally been subtle and like mentioned before, he has used humor to lighten up the mood. The strategy of using a friendly tone, using professional language and difficult vocabulary and combining it with sports to address a serious problem makes this writing very interesting and persuading but, soccer is perhaps a topic too narrow to represent ... • 7. The Importance Of Injudice In To Kill A Mockingbird Our forefathers once said that all men were created equal, but our society does not seem to acknowledge that message. In truth, no one is seen as an equal to another person; there is always a partial judgmental factor that comes into play when viewing another person. As humans, it is our nature to judge and assume things before we really understand the true meaning and value of it. Throughout history, prejudice has been a common theme in every society, from the Romans to the colonists. It has only been recognized as a major problem recently that was slowly tearing up the foundation of nations around the world, creating misconceptions between people while building up a toxic environment. Harper Lee s famous book, To Killa Mockingbird, depicts a young girl, Scout, growing up in the Jim Crow era, trying to understand the prejudice and racism that was so commonly used in her community. Similarly, Tim Wise s article, No Innocence Left to Kill: Racism, Injustice and Explaining America to My Daughter leaves people wondering how prejudice is indirectly affecting children and their mindsets. Both authors suggest a common theme, that prejudice affects everyone, old or young, scarring them, and creating a larger gap in society because it isolating people from one another out of misconceptions. Both documents show that prejudice can start influencing kids at a young age and can affecttheir mindset for the following years. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee ... This means when blood glucose levels rise above the optimum level, the organ s cells can t absorb the glucose into the cells, and the liver can t convert it into glycogen to store, like it usually would if insulin were present. (5) Type 2 diabetes is when the body doesn t recognize the insulin and therefore cannot spread the glucose out of the blood to the rest of the body s organs. As a result of the high levels of glucose, the pancreas (The Detector) detects this and as a result produces more insulin to help it spread through the body and lower the blood glucose levels. This keeps happening and is an example of a negative feedback system until the it eventually shuts down and no longer is produced. • 9. Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection And Acquired... Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a pandemic which infects the human immune system with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).1 The term HIV/AIDS describes the entire cascade and progression of disease from the initial infection with HIV to the later, more severe stage of AIDS. It is a global pandemic that affects 35 million people (2013) worldwide and 35, 287 people in Australia. 2,3 Dentists need to be acknowledgeable of this rapidly spreading disease and understand how to manage patients with HIV /AIDS. The human immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus (retrovirus), which attacks Helper T cells, specifically CD4 lymphocytes causing the progressive deterioration of the immune system.4 Initially when HIV is contracted, there is a period if 2 to 6 weeks called seroconversion where HIV antibodies are not detectable. During this period the patient may experience flu like symptoms due to the initial immune reaction.4 Next, there is a clinical, asymptomatic phase, which can last up to 10 years, and during this time the CD4 count decreases, causing gradual immunodeficiency. This lead to opportunistic infections such as oral candidiasis (thrush).4 Eventually, the AIDS stage of the disease is reached and there are more serious opportunistic infections and malignancies. HIV is mainly transmitted by unprotected intercourse sexual intercourse, vaginal, anal or oral sex. However it can also be transmitted by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose this for several different reasons. This happened close to where I live, my husband was one of many Special Agents who responded to this, and it is something that I am sure most of you all have heard about. When talking about these deviant acts, shooting and killing two people and then himself, I feel that one theory that explains this behavior is the extension of the structural and anomie theory, which is known as strain theories. To be more precise, I feel that this behavior is both the second and third type of strain. The second strain according to Franzese (2009, p. 43), occurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About... Teachings of the Bible and the Christian Church About Human Responsibility for the World The Bible contains many teachings about our human responsibility towards the created world. It talks about the start of creation in Genesis. Here it is made clear that human beings are made in the image of God so that they can continue his good work. At the outset they are given power over the rest of creation and now if all humans work together to make the world a better place they will be more powerful so it will happen, but even if just a few people are not willing to help then all will fall apart (see poster). The other implication here is that the power comes with responsibility. The role of human beings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the people most affected are those who are poorer. The greed and pollution of people in the Northern Hemisphere is having a serious impact on global warming and the worst effects f this are experienced not by us in the Northern Hemisphere but by those in the Southern Hemisphere. These people, already living in great poverty, then suffer even greater problems in terms of severe droughts, famines, flooding etc., which leaves them even poorer. The Biblemakes it quite clear that in terms of looking after the world, we have a duty not only to look after the environment but also to look after our fellow human beings. Hence the most important teaching, Love thy neighbour as yourself . Jesus made it quite clear in the story he told about the Good Samaritan that our neighbour is anyone and everyone who is in need, even our enemy, irrespective of their race/colour/religion. Another important teaching, called one body many parts, makes it clear that human beings physically make up the body of God here on Earth. We are therefore his hands; his feet etc and therefore we should do what he would do himself if he were physically present. What we should do is look after our neighbour. Furthermore, if just some of us, (one tiny bit of the body) does not do what it is supposed to do then everyone else will be weakened. We must work together in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Identifying Substances Lab Report Identifying Substances Using Properties Purpose: To identify unknown substances by observing their physical and chemical properties (e.g. colour, state, clarity, crystal shape, behaviour in water, behaviour in acid), and comparing them to the physical and chemical properties of known substances. Hypothesis: I predict that by observing and testing the properties, as well as comparing them to those of known substances, we can identify all 5 of the unknown substances. I think this will happen because every substance has a physical and/or chemical property or properties that differentiates it from other substances, no matter how similar. For example, baking powder and baking soda. These two substances are similar physically white, powdery,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I almost mistook the sodium nitrate for salt because they also have similar chemical and physical traits they are both solid, white, clear, soluble in water, and dissolves in acid. However the sodium nitrate has crystal shape which is granular, and that is different from salt s crystal form, which is cubic. That is how I confirmed that sample C was sodium nitrate. Sample D was identified as sodium thiosulphate because of a chemical property its reaction to acid. When the two drops of hydrochloric acid was added, the sodium nitrate turned cloudy and yellow, which is a distinct trait of sodium thiosulphate. I did not mistake this substance for any other substance because its reaction with acid is what confirmed that it was sodium thiosulphate. Sample E was identified as chalk because of its behaviour in water, also known as its solubility. After the two drops of water were added to the chalk, and it was mixed, with a clean toothpick we saw that sample E did not mix with the water. Chalk is the only solid, out of the five, that is insoluble. I almost mistook sample E for baking soda because the two substances have very similar physical traits. Both substances are white, solid, opaque and a powder. However, chalk s reaction to water and acid is different from baking soda. The chalk is insoluble with water, and its reaction with acid is that it fizzes and some dissolves. Meanwhile, baking soda is soluble with water, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. The trails were newly cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Masculinity In The Fight Club I am planning to write about the 1999 film Fight Club directed by David Fincher. This movie is about a nameless insomniac office worker (the narrator) who has became, as he views, a slave to consumer culture. There are many factors that can affect the rate of a reaction, such as adding heat to speed up the reaction rate, removing heat to slow it down, change in concentration, and the particle size. A reversible reaction is a reaction in which reactants form products. This theory was initially introduced by French chemist Claude Louis Berthollet in 1803 (Encyclopedia Britannica). All eukaryotic cells contain a plasma membrane, as well as cytoplasm and organelles such as mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, smooth ER, ribosomes, a nucleus which is surrounded by a double membrane known as the nuclear envelope, and secretory vesicles. There are some eukaryotic cells which contain more organelles as well as theses. Some eukaryotic cells, specifically in plants, have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are organelles that contain stacks of granum known as thylakoid stacks. The granum contains chlorophyll, and the first stage of photosynthesis occurs here. Software for these medical devices would need to be kept to update to keep up with the security (worms and viruses) concerns and governing regulations while not risking the health of the patient. In this paper the author analyzes the viewpoints and presents a review of the paper: Inside Risks: Controlling for Cybersecurity Risks of Medical Device Software (Fu and Blum, 2013). Fu and Blum (2013) give their views on the cybersecurity risks associated with the medical devices. Some of their key points are: a) medical devices depend on software for providing care and services. b) Security risks could cause harm to the patient. c) Post market surveillance of the medical device is required. d) Health data integrity and availability of patient care are crucial as compared to hacking of medical devices. e) Provide incentives to user facilities to report security vulnerabilities and security incidents. f) Manufacturers should consider cybersecurity during design phase of the medical device. g) Match the underlying software life cycles with the lifecycle of the medical device. h) Standards and regulations to protect cybersecurity would need to be created and enforced thoroughly. i) Provide ... The notion of freedom is possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist, believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be internally free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in complete control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of what they cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has been lost through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus defines is an internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic recommendation offers a simple yet rational approach of living life freely. Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. Arendt states that the Founding Fathers of America equated law based on public opinion with tyranny; in this sense, democracy was to them a new form of despotism. Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation. When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness, however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely. According to McCorkle and ... On their own, local governments are often restricted not only by budgetary constraints, but operating knowledge. There is evidence that when public officials and community groups are engaged, empowered and enlightened in a collaborative effort, change happens. When both the public and private sectors willingly cooperate together, deterrence of gang violence can be achieved. This paper delves into specific government programs that studies and provides information on gang violence. This information brings forward specific limitations and recommendations that a continued collaborative effort can deter youth gang violence. • 38. Essay Psychological Causes of Depression Psychological Causes of Depression The actual causes of depression are still unknown today but there are a few theories that could help explain them. It is widely believed by psychologists and scientists that all mental disorders are brought about by a complex correlation of psychological, biological, and social factors. A serious loss, chronic illness, relationship problem, work stress, family crisis, financial setback, or any unwelcome life change can ignite a depressive disorder (Psychologyinfo.com). Depression is a serious disorder in the United States and has only become more prevalent among individuals as their lives become more stressful and overwhelming. One theory for the cause of depression is the bio psycho social model of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An assortment of psychological factors appears to play a part in the susceptibility to these unrelenting types of depression. People who have low self esteem, are not optimistic, and readily overwhelmed by stress, are prone to depression (Grohol, 2006). More than likely, these psychological factors are completely accountable for other forms of mild and moderate depression, particularly reactive depression. Reactive depression is generally diagnosed as an adjustment disorder during treatment. Social learning factors also demonstrate why psychological complications appear to occur more regularly in family members, throughout generations. For example, if a child is raised in a pessimistic household, in which discouragement is frequent and encouragement is not, the child will establish a vulnerability to depression as well. (Psychologyinfo.com., et al). Recently, researchers have found that physical changes in the body can be paired with psychological changes as well. Medical ailments such as a cancer, Parkinson s disease, stroke, heart attack, and hormonal disorders can bring about a depressive illness. This can result in the ill person to feel unconcerned with their health and be unwilling to further care for their physical needs. In addition, any stressful change, financial problems, relationship problems, or serious loss can activate a depressive affair (Grohol, 2006). • 41. Reflection Paper On Identity A person s life is made up of an impossibly unique combination of moments, interactions, and relationships, all of which amalgamate to create a human with an identity unlike any other in the world. When looking at a person s life up close, it almost appears as if their identity is something that has been relatively constant throughout their life, however, if a person s life is looked at a through a more holistic perspective, it s easier to see how specific events, people, and relationships in their life made them who they are today. For this assignment, I was tasked with conducting in depth interviews pertaining to life experiences and identities with another member of the class. Through the interview process, hidden sentiments arose, truths were revealed, and I had the opportunity to see the different ways in which my identity was formed. In analyzing these interviews, I found that through using the works of influential identity theorists, Daniel J. Canary, Michael J. Cody, Valerie L. Manusov, Jan E. Stets, and Peter J. Burke, I was able to dissect my interview and correlate specific instances of my past to aspects of my current identity, specifically my independent, selfassured, and open minded disposition. The first identity theory that will be looked at is Canary et al s The Four Cognitive Processes. There are many facets to this theory, but some prominent aspects that will be looked at are those of schema, familystructure, and stereotypes. Schema is defined as a ... Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed consent). The definition goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of the patient; however, tissue removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned. Consequently, a gray area emerges and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and what is practical. The ethical side corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or her tissue. Although, again, there are not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues removed from the body. The practical side relates to the cost of future research and patient confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue samples to the original patient. The practicality of voiding using consent forms, in terms of tissue, eliminates the confusion within the scientific community, reduces additional cost burdens and decreases potential privacy breaches to the original patient.
