An Origional Screenplay
INT.PRACTICE ROOM.DAY
Band getting ready for practice, bass heard with guitars
being tuned, general chatter and laughter heard. There are
four members of the band. Lucas is wearing converse and
black skinny jeans, black band t-shirt and a leather biker
jacket his hair is short, shorter on sides longer on the
top, he is in the corner of the room with his bass hanging
low whilst he tunes up and contributes to conversation with
the band. Mike, is the lead guitarist he is wearing a denim
jacket, a band t-shirt worn and faded out black jeans with
chukka vans, his hair is died black/ginger, he is playing
riffs fiddling with his amp. Stephan, the lead singer and
rhythm guitar player for the band, is speaking into the mic,
his hair is over his face he is wearing blue skinny jeans
and skate shoes with a crew neck jumper and a biker jacket,
he has brown curly hair. The drummer Freddie, has short dark
hair and is wearing a button up shirt to the top with a grey
jacket and is wearing sport shoes, he is moving some cymbals
around.
LUCAS
Hey guys how do you know when the
stage is level? (pause) The
drummer’s drooling from both sides
of his mouth.
WHOLE BAND
(laughter)
FREDDIE
Hahaha that’s not funny you prick
There is a fade out. Popping is heard with a high-pitched
ringing.
INT.BEDROOM.AFTERNOON
Lucas is alone sitting on a chair in front of a table, a
necklace with a notepad and pen is hanging down from his
neck. A muffled drone is heard (Lucus’s perspective). An
amplifier and electric guitar are under the bed. Mum enters
the room from behind picking up clothes on the way towards
Lucas but he doesn’t register that she is there. She tries
to speak to Lucas but he can’t hear so she stamps on the
floor. Lucas feels the stomp and looks up to see her and
looks annoyed. Mum then fixes his collar.
MUM
( (she is over expressing her
words to Lucas))
Are you going to do anything today
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.
Lucas takes the pad from his neck not looking at his Mum or
reacting to her comment. He opens the pad and takes up the
pen and writes.
LUCAS
(Hand Written)
Not today
MUM
(sighs) (she is over
expressing her words to Lucas)
You can’t spend your life like this
Lucas.
Mum exits the room. There is a fade out.
INT.TEXT.DAY
A text vibration sound is heard. Lucas takes the phone out
of his pocket.
MIKE:
Lucas how are you m8? I dno if
you got it but i messaged u a
couple of days ago where have you
been?
LUCAS:
Fine
MIKE:
U didn’t reply to my txt, we were
worried.
LUCAS
Sorry. How is the band?
MIKE
We’re doing ok. Thats actually what
I wanted to talk to you about. We
had to make some changes.
LUCAS
What kind of changes.
MIKE
We have a new member now. We need a
bassist for the open mic night it
wasn’t my fault its all just become
really confusing!! Im sorry man.

INT. BEDROOM. AFTERNOON
Lucas is alone in his bedroom. Lucas walk’s from his desk to
his bed. He crouches down and pulls out his electric guitar
and amp from underneath the bed. Lucas switches on the amp.
Lucas play’s one open note repetitively and simultaneously
turns up his amp. He starts to play more furiously. He
begins to turn his amp up louder and louder. Lucas is
frustrated with his playing and gives up. He throws the
electric guitar over his shoulder and kicks over his amp.
Bass vibrations scene. Lucas attempts to play his bass
guitar. He fails and is increasingly annoyed with himself.
He starts to turn the volume louder and louder. He kicks the
amp over. The amp is feeding back and vibrations are felt
through the floor. Lucas carries on playing.
INT.KITCHEN.DAY
Mum is stood at the kitchen counter and making a sandwhich.
She is wearing a green apron with a white top and black
trousers. Lucas walking down the staris and up to the door
is heard, Lucas arrives with the poster in hand. Mum
addresses Lucas and is trying to pronounce her speech
clearly and slowly. She is making over exaggerated lip
movements. Lucas walks into the kitchen and puts the poster
on the fridge. Mum goes over and looks at it.
MUM:
What have you been doing? I thought
you where revising for your exams!
You need to start now! You can’t be
just taking time off.
Lucas doesn’t respond. Mum looks to the poster. She grabs
the poster off the fridge and screws it up, she then throws
it to the floor.
MUM:
Whats this Lucas?
Lucas doesn’t respond. He pick’s up the flyer walks over to
the fridge and puts the poster on the fridge with a fridge
magnet. Lucas then walks over to the table and sits down.
MUM:
(fast and angry speach making
no attempt to help Lucas lip
read)
If you think that your going to go
do this then you’ve got another
thing coming, how can you even
(MORE)
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
MUM: (cont’d)
think of doing this! Your just
going to make a fool of yourself!
You cant be doing these things, you
are def now you need to start
accepting it.
(Phone vibration heard)
Lucas is sitting at the table paying little attention to his
mum. He takes his phone out of his pocket.
BURTON GUY
Hey Lucas just confirming that you
will be on at 8:00pm tonight?
(Sound of crowed gradually
getting lowder)
LUCAS (VIA TEXT)
Yea.
INT.GIG.NIGHT
Lucas is on the stage ready to perform , the audience all
are sitting down chatting waiting for the performance to
begin, Lucas then walks on stage towards his amp with his
bass, he then sits down and goes straight into his
performance. the audience after the performance give a
strong round of applause and cheers
(sound of random chatter from
the audience)
crowed sitting down chatting. Random audiene members begin
to enjoy it bopping their heads and

on to the stage. Audience sitting focusing on lucas
(audience then quieten down)
Lucas plucking the strings of the bass. Lucas playing making
rhythmic motion. The audience sitting down then stand up and
applause.
(audience applause)

  • 1. Mute By Barney Kass & Harvey Steel An Origional Screenplay
  • 2. INT.PRACTICE ROOM.DAY Band getting ready for practice, bass heard with guitars being tuned, general chatter and laughter heard. There are four members of the band. Lucas is wearing converse and black skinny jeans, black band t-shirt and a leather biker jacket his hair is short, shorter on sides longer on the top, he is in the corner of the room with his bass hanging low whilst he tunes up and contributes to conversation with the band. Mike, is the lead guitarist he is wearing a denim jacket, a band t-shirt worn and faded out black jeans with chukka vans, his hair is died black/ginger, he is playing riffs fiddling with his amp. Stephan, the lead singer and rhythm guitar player for the band, is speaking into the mic, his hair is over his face he is wearing blue skinny jeans and skate shoes with a crew neck jumper and a biker jacket, he has brown curly hair. The drummer Freddie, has short dark hair and is wearing a button up shirt to the top with a grey jacket and is wearing sport shoes, he is moving some cymbals around. LUCAS Hey guys how do you know when the stage is level? (pause) The drummer’s drooling from both sides of his mouth. WHOLE BAND (laughter) FREDDIE Hahaha that’s not funny you prick There is a fade out. Popping is heard with a high-pitched ringing. INT.BEDROOM.AFTERNOON Lucas is alone sitting on a chair in front of a table, a necklace with a notepad and pen is hanging down from his neck. A muffled drone is heard (Lucus’s perspective). An amplifier and electric guitar are under the bed. Mum enters the room from behind picking up clothes on the way towards Lucas but he doesn’t register that she is there. She tries to speak to Lucas but he can’t hear so she stamps on the floor. Lucas feels the stomp and looks up to see her and looks annoyed. Mum then fixes his collar. MUM ( (she is over expressing her words to Lucas)) Are you going to do anything today (CONTINUED)
  • 3. CONTINUED: 2. Lucas takes the pad from his neck not looking at his Mum or reacting to her comment. He opens the pad and takes up the pen and writes. LUCAS (Hand Written) Not today MUM (sighs) (she is over expressing her words to Lucas) You can’t spend your life like this Lucas. Mum exits the room. There is a fade out. INT.TEXT.DAY A text vibration sound is heard. Lucas takes the phone out of his pocket. MIKE: Lucas how are you m8? I dno if you got it but i messaged u a couple of days ago where have you been? LUCAS: Fine MIKE: U didn’t reply to my txt, we were worried. LUCAS Sorry. How is the band? MIKE We’re doing ok. Thats actually what I wanted to talk to you about. We had to make some changes. LUCAS What kind of changes. MIKE We have a new member now. We need a bassist for the open mic night it wasn’t my fault its all just become really confusing!! Im sorry man.
  • 4. 3. INT. BEDROOM. AFTERNOON Lucas is alone in his bedroom. Lucas walk’s from his desk to his bed. He crouches down and pulls out his electric guitar and amp from underneath the bed. Lucas switches on the amp. Lucas play’s one open note repetitively and simultaneously turns up his amp. He starts to play more furiously. He begins to turn his amp up louder and louder. Lucas is frustrated with his playing and gives up. He throws the electric guitar over his shoulder and kicks over his amp. Bass vibrations scene. Lucas attempts to play his bass guitar. He fails and is increasingly annoyed with himself. He starts to turn the volume louder and louder. He kicks the amp over. The amp is feeding back and vibrations are felt through the floor. Lucas carries on playing. INT.KITCHEN.DAY Mum is stood at the kitchen counter and making a sandwhich. She is wearing a green apron with a white top and black trousers. Lucas walking down the staris and up to the door is heard, Lucas arrives with the poster in hand. Mum addresses Lucas and is trying to pronounce her speech clearly and slowly. She is making over exaggerated lip movements. Lucas walks into the kitchen and puts the poster on the fridge. Mum goes over and looks at it. MUM: What have you been doing? I thought you where revising for your exams! You need to start now! You can’t be just taking time off. Lucas doesn’t respond. Mum looks to the poster. She grabs the poster off the fridge and screws it up, she then throws it to the floor. MUM: Whats this Lucas? Lucas doesn’t respond. He pick’s up the flyer walks over to the fridge and puts the poster on the fridge with a fridge magnet. Lucas then walks over to the table and sits down. MUM: (fast and angry speach making no attempt to help Lucas lip read) If you think that your going to go do this then you’ve got another thing coming, how can you even (MORE) (CONTINUED)
  • 5. CONTINUED: 4. MUM: (cont’d) think of doing this! Your just going to make a fool of yourself! You cant be doing these things, you are def now you need to start accepting it. (Phone vibration heard) Lucas is sitting at the table paying little attention to his mum. He takes his phone out of his pocket. BURTON GUY Hey Lucas just confirming that you will be on at 8:00pm tonight? (Sound of crowed gradually getting lowder) LUCAS (VIA TEXT) Yea. INT.GIG.NIGHT Lucas is on the stage ready to perform , the audience all are sitting down chatting waiting for the performance to begin, Lucas then walks on stage towards his amp with his bass, he then sits down and goes straight into his performance. the audience after the performance give a strong round of applause and cheers (sound of random chatter from the audience) crowed sitting down chatting. Random audiene members begin to enjoy it bopping their heads and Shot of the stage set up for the performance. Lucas walking on to the stage. Audience sitting focusing on lucas (audience then quieten down) Lucas plucking the strings of the bass. Lucas playing making rhythmic motion. The audience sitting down then stand up and applause. (audience applause)
