Research summary We review advances in research methodology used in global strategy research and provide suggestions on how researchers can improve their analyses and arguments. Methodological advances in the extraction of information, such as computer-aided text analysis, and in the analysis of datasets, such as differences-in-differences and propensity score matching, have helped deal with challenges (e.g., endogeneity and causality) that bedeviled earlier studies and resulted in conflicting findings. These methodological advances need to be considered as tools that complement theoretical arguments and well-explained logics and mechanisms so that researchers can provide better and more relevant recommendations to managers designing the global strategies of their organizations. Managerial summary We review advances in research methodology used in global strategy research and provide suggestions for improving researchers' analyses and arguments. Methodological advances in the extraction of information and in the analysis of datasets have helped researchers deal with challenges that bedeviled earlier studies and resulted in conflicting findings. The theme chosen is Qualitative and quantitative change. During child development, there are both qualitative and quantitative differences. Qualitative differences describe the changes in the way a child behave, think and perceive the world in a different way as they mature. An excellent example of this is that when the child is young, it is difficult for them to understand the perspective of others. As the child gets old, they are in a position to view things from other people’s angles. On the other hand, quantitative change refers to the change that a child undergoes as they gain more knowledge and grow larger and stronger physically. Good examples are the growth of the height and weight (Battles, Lindenberger, & M, 1998).
There are various controversies regarding this theme. The debate comes in when explaining development occurs qualitatively or quantitatively. The dynamic system theory (DST) is one of the approaches which has been used to justify the issue. DST defines qualitative framework by showing the connection between continuous and qualitative change. The method describes that the growth cannot be predicted by looking or observing a system. The other way is through analyzing growth based on the different theories. However. DST is the conventional approach (Battles, Lindenberger, & M, 1998).
There are various theories associated with the approaches analyzed. Most of the stage theories lie on the assumption that lifespan development is a discontinuous process which involves distinct stages that are characterized by qualitative differences in the behavior. Some of the methods include the Piaget’s approach and the Erickson’s stages of physiological development. Piaget’s theory describes qualitative development since it discusses the development of human intelligence. Piaget explains about cognitive development. Erickson explains about psychological development of human beings, and thus his line is nearly the same as that of Piaget. The article used was appropriate for the analysis. It is, however, an aged article but with useful information.

Research summary We review advances in research methodology used in global strategy research and provide suggestions on how researchers can improve their analyses and arguments. Methodological advances in the extraction of information, such as computer-aided text analysis, and in the analysis of datasets, such as differences-in-differences and propensity score matching, have helped deal with challenges (e.g., endogeneity and causality) that bedeviled earlier studies and resulted in conflicting findings. These methodological advances need to be considered as tools that complement theoretical arguments and well-explained logics and mechanisms so that researchers can provide better and more relevant recommendations to managers designing the global strategies of their organizations. Managerial summary We review advances in research methodology used in global strategy research and provide suggestions for improving researchers' analyses and arguments. The theme chosen is Qualitative and quantitative change. During child development, there are both qualitative and quantitative differences. Qualitative differences describe the changes in the way a child behave, think and perceive the world in a different way as they mature. An excellent example of this is that when the child is young, it is difficult for them to understand the perspective of others. As the child gets old, they are in a position to view things from other people’s angles. On the other hand, quantitative change refers to the change that a child undergoes as they gain more knowledge and grow larger and stronger physically. Good examples are the growth of the height and weight (Battles, Lindenberger, & M, 1998).
There are various controversies regarding this theme. The debate comes in when explaining development occurs qualitatively or quantitatively. The dynamic system theory (DST) is one of the approaches which has been used to justify the issue. DST defines qualitative framework by showing the connection between continuous and qualitative change. The method describes that the growth cannot be predicted by looking or observing a system. The other way is through analyzing growth based on the different theories. However. DST is the conventional approach (Battles, Lindenberger, & M, 1998).
There are various theories associated with the approaches analyzed. Most of the stage theories lie on the assumption that lifespan development is a discontinuous process which involves distinct stages that are characterized by qualitative differences in the behavior. Some of the methods include the Piaget’s approach and the Erickson’s stages of physiological development. Piaget’s theory describes qualitative development since it discusses the development of human intelligence. Piaget explains about cognitive development. Erickson explains about psychological development of human beings, and thus his line is nearly the same as that of Piaget. The article used was appropriate for the analysis. It is, however, an aged article but with useful information.

POST 1:
The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 established that employees have the right to join a union, collectively bargain through chosen representatives, go on strike, and also refrain from union activity (Seaquist, 2015). What this means is that employees now had the ability to negotiate wages that would allow them to cover their expenses. They could also negotiate working conditions and benefits. The NLRA also gave workers traction. They now had the ability to have leverage in negotiations. If terms could not be met, employees could strike to apply pressure to the organization to meet its terms or at least come back with a better offer. Previously all of this leverage only rested with employers. If you did not like your working conditions, or maybe started trying to get employees to join together, employers could get rid of you. By its nature, the NLRA protected people in these situations. Most of the things we enjoy as far as safety, competitive wages, and benefits can be drawn directly back to the NLRA.

Federal legislation was and has been a huge part of union and employer regulating. “Congress amended the Sherman Antitrust Act with the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914, a federal statute that added language specifically excluding labor unions from being deemed a combination or conspiracy. Unions and labor leaders alike heralded the Clayton Act. Gompers declared it the “industrial Magna Carta upon which the working people will rear their construction of industrial freedom” (Seaquist, 2015). I do think that labor groups would have evolved, but it would have taken longer and they probably wouldn’t have had much of the protection that they had with big government coming in to help regulate how organizations had/have to treat employees. Establishing and maintaining strength the way they have over the years couldn’t have happened by themselves. “The National Labor Relations Act set up a framework of protection for labor unions, only to be tempered by Taft-Hartley, which outlawed closed shops, and Landrum-Griffin, which held unions more accountable. Public unions were recognized but then saw much of their power diminished when Reagan fired all of the striking air traffic controllers and replaced them. The many strikes in the private sector led to greater negative opinion among the American public about unions in general” (Seaquist, 2015).

In these days of computer capability, you generally don't even have to do that much, since Excel is set up to do basic statistics for you. The key elements for the student in this course is to understand the various types of statistics, what their requirements are, what they do, and how you can use and interpret the results. Referring back to the basic components of a valid research study, which statistic a researcher uses depends on several things:

The research question itself

The sample size
·
The type of data you have collected
·
The type of statistic called for by the design
All quantitative studies require a data set. Qualitative studies may use a data set or may use observations with no numerical data at all. For the purposes of the next modules, our focus will be on quantitative studies.
Types of Statistics
There are several types of statistics available to the researcher. Descriptive statistics provide a basic description of the data set. This includes the measures of central tendency: means, medians, and modes, and the measures of dispersion, including variances and standard deviations. Descriptive statistics also include the sample size, or "N", and the frequency with which each data point occurs in the data set.
Inferential statistics allow the researcher to make predictions, estimations, and generalizations about the data set, the sample, and the population from which the sample was drawn. They allow you to draw inferences, generaliza.

As of 2010, GE Healthcare was a $17 billion division of the $180 billion giant General Electric, employing over 46,000 people worldwide.
