This is the presentation done by Sis Elizabeth Role during the Church Workers' Seminar held at the Baraton University Church on Saturday 23rd January 2016
Music Ministry is serving and sharing the word of God through music. We strive to encourage others to channel their music into their life of faith and lead the congregation in worship.
We know the dictionary definition of worship (a feeling, or devotion to a deity), and we have read John 4:24, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth"; but, what does the Bible teach us about the subject of worship? This is a series of lessons that gets to the heart of worship and what it really means for Christians.

This is a study of Jesus as a singer. He sang psalms with his disciples after the Lord's Supper and likely on other occasions. He, like all Jews, would grow up loving to sing the Psalms.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

4. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was music in heaven when God laid the foundations of the earth Job 38:7 “the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy!” Music will do so again in the future at Second coming of Jesus Christ “the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God” Psalms- one entire book of the Bible, in essence – a Hymnbook
5. Music as Service and Ministry I Chr. 6:31,32 “ the service of song in the house of the Lord after that the ark had rest. And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem; and then they waited on their office according to their order” I Chr.9:33- full time ministry II Chr. 20:21-22
6. Music in the New Testament Hebrews 2:12 “in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee” Ephesians 5:19 “singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord” Colossians 3:16 “singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” *in each of these instances, music was a part of the gathering together of believers as a body, as a church.
7. Music is Gift from GOD “Music is gift from God and not from men. It puts the devil to flight and renders man cheerful. It makes him forget anger, immodesty, and every vice. To it I assign the highest place after theology..” M.L. It is the musical prelude, congregational singing, offertories and special music by the choir or soloist that re noticed by the visitor long before the preaching begins.
9. I. “To Exalt God” I Cor. 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do [that covers every area of our lives], do ALL to the glory of God *Col.1:18; Matt.5:16 *Very clearly the first purpose of music is to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ and to glorify God. Could there possibly be any purpose, any reason, noblerthan that?
10. II. “To Edify Believers” Edification of Saints –Rom.1:7; I Cor.1:2 Truly “Christian” music is an expression of a truly “Christian” life seeking to exalt the Savior and minister to His people through the medium of sacred music. The Bible must our final authority and guide in all areas of life including music.
11.
12. The word “sing” is found some 70x in the book of Psalms, In every instance, that song is directed to God.
13.
14.
15. Sacred music that teach about God and His Attributes. Ex. Holy, Holy, Holy
20. It has proven helpful in winning the lost to Christ. Uncountable stories of Christians who were influenced to accept Christ as their personal Savior through the ministry of sacred song.
21.
22. Finally…. Remember that the original purpose of music was to bring honor to God. Church music must keep this goal foremost. Even when listening for personal entertainment, you must seek to honor God with your musical choices. It’s best not to accommodate our music to the immoral culture surrounding us. Christians are to be separate from the world, and this fact influences our choices in music
