The target audience for Aphex Twin - Come To daddy is aimed at a much younger audience, to specify; Teenagers or young adults.
The majority of the adult population doesn’t exactly listen to drum and bass/electronic/experimental styled music instead they
mainly listen to pop and songs not from this generation though this is just the stereotype of the adult population so this isn’t
exactly true. One thing that backs up that is is for a much younger audience is that the genre of the music video is horror. Most
people who enjoy horror films are either teenagers or young adults so this is another stereotype upon an audience, this may not
be true but this is who it is aimed at. I Also think it’s aimed at the male population as with the stereotypes that women enjoy
romantic/comedies etc and not specifically horrors though this is true as there are women who do enjoy horrors, i think it meets
the audience needs perfectly as it has set a very specific target audience and has continued to follow it during the song and video
together.

There isn’t much to offer in choice of lyrics as there are only three lines ever said in this video, the lyrics in the song are “I want
your soul”, “I will eat your soul” and finally “come to daddy”. These lyrics have been use very effectively within the video as when
the demon says “I will eat your soul” the old lady acts shocked and horrored as it looks like the demon has actually eaten her soul
though that isn’t actually the case as we see here later on in the video as normal. The meaning of these lyrics is pretty simple, the
demon has been woken up and summons the children that must be his minions to him and “I want your soul” must be him
needing a sould to enter the real world as he seems to be trapped inside the TV and is neeeding to escape.
Tempo The song is a very fast up beat song, with the genre of Drum and Bass. It is expected to be a very fast paced song with a high BPM
(Beats Per Minute) with an estimate of over 150 BPM. As it is a fast paced and upbeat song it makes easily to choose and define
the genre much easier than if it was slow paced. The video also follows this fast paced song with the video as most of the time the
little children are running and this is meant to signify that they are going as fast as the beat.
Genre There really isn’t a specific genre to this song as one genre would play then another would outweigh it, though the genres i can
pick out are Drum and Bass being one of the main beats of the song and then the side genre would be ambient/electronic music.
These are the two/three main genres of the song and the rest would just be as a backing track to the song. The song manages to
keep up with the beat, another point would be that the song jumps around and some people would say it is horrible to listen too,
this could be used as a point to back up the video as the environment in the video looks horrible to look at as it dull and boring.
Camera Technique There are many use of shots used within the video such as a lot of close ups, Medium shots and low angle shots. The reason the
director has used this shots because it brings the best in the shots, the director has thought it through very well and they would
have gone through many choice of shots before settling on the one they liked the best

The picture above is a low angle shot, it is used very effectively as it is able to see the kids full body more than you would of been
able to do with a mid shot or high angle shot. The thing i noticed with this shot is that the kids are not kids at all from the body
structures, they look like adults just shrunken down with CGI. This is exactly why directors use different style of shots so it brings
out more details than it would in different shots.
Editing The editing used in video mainly consists fast cuts which switch between shots so if you want to pay attention to detail you will
have to pause it between shots to see what the shot has to offer. This can benefit the editor as they wouldn’t have to put spend a
lot of time doing the details for a long shot and spend more time putting details into a smaller shot. During the video there is a
distortion within the video which adds to the genre of horror as it creates tension during the video as you expect something to
happen but nothing does, lastly they have edited to the colour scheme to add to the tension and make it seem more creepier and
makes the environment look more horrible.
Use of Digital Effects Firstly you can see that CGI was used within the video as all the children have had their bodys shrunken down and have had a face
added digitally to all of them so they all have the same face which happens to be the face of the demon that leaves the tv later on
in the video which ends up backing the song title of “Come To Daddy” as must be family and they must be his sons/daughters or
whatever you want to call them. There has also been a saturation effect used on the video to give it its gloomy dark and
sometimes black and white effect which happens to be a low saturation so it adds to the dark and misserable setting and helps its
genre of being a horror.
