The document proposes a music video idea for the song "Dream Catch Me" by Newton Faulkner. The proposed narrative music video would follow a girl dealing with a breakup through text message. Drawings she made would come to life to console her. By the end, her drawings construct an uplifting message. The proposal discusses conventions of acoustic music videos and how the proposed video would follow or contrast them. It outlines plans for promotion, distribution, and addressing potential technical difficulties.
This is a brief, mostly visual treatment analysis for my group's music video for Weezer - Memories. The point of a treatment is to give a visual representation of the kind of graphics and shooting methods one would like in their own music video. We have just simply taken some images off of Google to represent the kind of colours, contrasts, images and scenes we'd like to see in our own music video.

Pitching Ideas: How to sell your ideas to othersJeroen van Geel
Learn how to convince others of your UX ideas by understanding them.
We are good in designing usable and engaging products and services. We understand the user's needs and have a toolkit with dozens of deliverables. But for some reason it remains difficult to sell an idea or concept to team members, managers or clients. After this session that problem will be solved!
Selling your ideas and convincing others is one of the most undervalued assets in our field. This ranges from convincing a colleague to use a certain design pattern to selling research to your boss and convincing a client to go for your concept. You can come up with the best ideas in the world, but if it is presented in the wrong way these ideas will die a lonely dead. This is sad, because everybody can learn how to bring a message across. The main thing is that you know what to pay attention to.
In this session I will take you on a journey through the world of presenting ideas. We will move through the heads of clients and your colleagues, learn what their thoughts and needs are. We will move to the core of your idea and into the world of psychology.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. “DREAM CATCH ME”
– NEWTON FAULKNER
MUSIC VIDEO PITCH
PRESENTATION
By James Carolan
2. THE IDEA FOR MY MUSIC VIDEO
I will be making my music video completely narrative, and my
idea for the narrative is this:
The music video features a girl who is in what she thinks is a stable
relationship. She is drawing a picture of a boy and girl when, she receives a
text revealing to her that her boyfriend is in fact unhappy with the
relationship and decides to break -up with the girl. Hur t; the girl immediately
wants to be alone, and so she locks her self away in a bathroom downstair s,
far away from the study where her drawing takes place. While cr ying over her
break -up, the drawing she has done in her study comes to life in order to
console her over what has happened. Eventuall y the girl leaves the bathroom
and throughout the day, slowly moves around the house, still saddened by the
break -up. She moves from room to room, getting closer to the study, where
her break -up took place. Her drawings throughout the day however, acquire
the pencil, and draw material required to create a message to her, and begin
working to build her this message. Night comes and the girl finally decides to
return to her study, where her drawings are finishing of f their message to her.
When she finally enter s the study she realises something has changed. She
picks up her original drawing, and for the fir st time since the early morning,
she smiles. The message reads; “ WE LOVE YOU” in large letter s built by stone
bricks, surrounded by flower s and the drawings holding hands and smiling.
3. CODES & CONVENTIONS OF ACOUSTIC MUSIC VIDEOS
Use of long takes within the music video.
Use of “soft” editing (i.e. the music video in general is slow
paced and does not use cuts such a jump cuts, which may be
seen to suit faster paced music videos. Therefore acoustic
music videos really give us a chance to understand what is
going on in relation to the lyrics).
The artist playing the music is often the main focus with other
characters supporting the song (i.e. in relation to lyrics. This
means that acoustic music videos utilise both performance
and narrative).
Locations used can often be isolated areas (e.g. streets,
alleys, etc.) with little or no people seen within the shots.
4. COMPARING AND CONTRASTING MY ACOUSTIC MUSIC
VIDEO WITH THE CODES & CONVENTIONS OF
ACOUSTIC MUSIC VIDEOS
My music video (from my stor yboards) will use long takes for the majority
of my music video (conforming to the conventi ons of acousti c music
videos).
My editing will use straight cuts and avoid more fast paced editing
techniques such as jump cuts. I am doing this to allow the narrative being
shown to be under stood clearly and to allow the audience to piece together
the relation to the lyrics (again conformi ng to the conventi ons of acousti c
music videos).
There will be no ar tist shown in my music video however. So unlike typical
acoustic music videos that contain utilise both narrative and per formance,
my entire video will be narrative based (contrasting the conventi ons and
yet conforming to them, although no matter what, since acousti c music
videos typically utilise both narrative and per formance, my music video
conforms to some extent, since it has to use at least one form of
presentation – per formance or narrative).
The location within my music video will be various rooms around my house,
and one location outside of it, so while this is not seen so much as an
isolated area, during my music video the only per son who will be seen is
my actress, therefore using a non -isolated area with ver y few people (both
conforming to the conventi ons and contrasting them).
5. TARGET AUDIENCE AND HOW I WILL REACH THEM
My target audience is males and females ages 13 to 21 . I want to make it
known that the music is also open to ages above and below, and that this
age group is just the one I believe most likely to be interested in the song I
have chosen.
Besides the actual music itself (being the reason I chose my target
audience), I will help to reach those within ages 13 to 21 (and possible
below/above) through the use of multiple websites which are popular with
my target audience. I will use „YouTube‟ (to post the music video online),
„Facebook‟ (to create a profile/group for the fake ar tist that I will create,
behind the song I am using), „Twitter‟ (to again create a profile for the fake
ar tist that I will create, behind the song I am using) and finally „Vimeo‟
(again, to post the music video online).
I considered using „Myspace‟ to also promote my music video to my target
audience, although due to the website‟s activity seriously declining due to
other websites such as „Facebook‟ and „YouTube‟, I decided the sites listed
in the previous bullet point would be much more ef fective ways of reaching
my target audience, and making my music video and fake ar tist known.
6. MEDIA INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTION
The record label behind the artist of my song – Newton
Faulkner, is Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
I believe that Sony Music BMG Entertainment would, like how
they distribute Newton Faulkner's music, would also distribute
my music video. I believe this because I am not using a song
that I have created myself, and so I therefore believe they
would hold the same interest in my music video as they do for
his, since it uses the same song.
7. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES I MAY ENCOUNTER
WHILST CREATING MY MUSIC VIDEO
The following are possibilities for technical dif ficulties I may
encounter during the shooting of my music video.
Camera battery life (running out when needed)
Animation time restraints (in terms of drawing, scanning in
and then editing all the animation into my music video)
Lighting being too strong/weak whilst filming (since almost
all of my locations are interiors and are often small rooms.
Therefore using extra lighting may overpower the actress,
causing them to look unnatural (whereas I am aiming to make
them appear natural within my music video), or not using
extra lighting and causing the camera to not being able to
properly see the actress).
8. OVERCOMING POSSIBLE TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES
To overcome any issues with camera batter y life I will make sure
that ever y night, and also during shooting breaks, that all cameras
are on charge so that they do not die when needed.
To overcome animation time restraints, I have decided to begin
filming over the Christmas break so that all recording required is
finished and out of the way. This means I can begin the animation
process in the Christmas break as well, giving me plenty of time to
draw each par t of the animation, upload it to my computer, put it
together and adjust the length of each piece of animation where
needed.
Finally, to overcome the problem of extra lighting being too
strong/weak I am prepared to go out and buy dimmer lights or
slightly stronger lights, if the lights I am using are too strong/weak.
I will also location lighting to achieve the correct balance within my
music video, such as turning on/of f more room lights to achieve
shots that appear neither dim nor unnaturally strong (since I am
aiming for a natural look to the actress in the music video).
