The music video for Olivia Rodrigo's "Deja Vu" uses a circular narrative and various film techniques to convey the feeling of deja vu. It begins and ends with the same shot of Olivia's ex-girlfriend driving away in her car. Throughout the video, Olivia watches her ex on TV screens with his new girlfriend, before seeing herself in the same situations. She eventually smashes the TVs. The video utilizes fast pacing, glitching, and angles like the canted shot to mirror the sudden yet powerful feeling of deja vu.
This is a brief, mostly visual treatment analysis for my group's music video for Weezer - Memories. The point of a treatment is to give a visual representation of the kind of graphics and shooting methods one would like in their own music video. We have just simply taken some images off of Google to represent the kind of colours, contrasts, images and scenes we'd like to see in our own music video.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
How to Create Map Views in the Odoo 17 ERPCeline George
The map views are useful for providing a geographical representation of data. They allow users to visualize and analyze the data in a more intuitive manner.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. font/typography/writing/language
Her name and the title being displayed within the first
5 seconds, immediately distinguishes what the song is
and who its by. The font is fancy and in cursive, it sets
an elegant and creative tone for the rest of the video.
It also gives a timely retro feel, that is reflective of the
‘deja-vu’ concept. The colour of the text is a lilac-
dusty –purple and matches the theme of her 'Sour'
album cover.
At the end, the video gives credit to the director.
The text is in the same font and colour, with the
same background scene as the beginning, which
matches the circular narrative in the music video.
The use of adding in the director's name at the end
adds some authenticity to the product because it
shows a professional name that we can respect and
credit for Olivia's image.
3. Narrative
The music video has a circular narrative, starting with Olivia Rodrigo in the car and ending with the new girl that
her ex is with driving the same car in the same outfit, as if she has become her. The storyline of the song follows
Olivia realising her ex's new partner is very similar to her and the activities he does with her is the same as what
she did with him. The question she has for her ex is 'do you get deja-vu?', the video connotes lots of themes and
feelings of deja-vu through imagery and editing effects, for example glitching between the person being her and
then the new girlfriend. The video is fast paced, and the clips switch back and forth
Throughout the course of the video, it shows Olivia looking at various TV screens at the new girl, then it cuts to her
being in those places herself. This is used as a build-up that plays alongside the lyrics of the song, then eventually
we see Olivia having enough and smashing all the TVs towards the end of the songs bridge. Then finally, we see the
car driving away on the same road as before, expecting to see Olivia as the driver, but it is the new girlfriend.
4. Camera shots/angles/movements
The music video uses various unique camera techniques to
create the deja-vu feel for the audience. A lot of the clips
from the video are viewed through a camera lens/TV and
seems obvious that she is looking back at something. The
constant glitching back and forth paired with angles such as
the canted angle connotes uncontrollability, the feeling of
deja-vu is a sudden quick one but is still strongly felt. This
type of angle and fast movement captures that feeling.
The use of this wide-shot also acts as quite an
establishing shot, because it's setting a scene. The shot
shows Olivia pulling up to the house, and the camera
zooms in to show her getting out. The plants in the
background create quite an atmosphere that feels quite
calming but is an oxymoron by the striking white of the
car that takes the attention away from the rest of the
scene.
5. Mise-en-scene
Some of the costumes in the video are more just casual, for example the jeans/top and the
beach outfit, however there are some more statement pieces. The green dress is probably
the main costume for the video and conveys a few things. The green is significant as it can
signify envy, jealousy or greed. The tone of the song is quite petty, which fits into those
green connotations. Olivia envies this new girl, which we can see from the way she looks at
her in the dress and then wears it herself.
The glasses and bandana are quite retro/60s. They add a level of sophistication to the
characters and mystery. Because the glasses are dark, they also feel a bit like a sign of
mourning, which Olivia is doing at the loss of her relationship. Then when the new
girlfriend is driving at the end, she's wearing the bandana but not the glasses because she is
the one who is now with Olivia's ex.
The main locations in the video are, the house, the TV room and the beach.
The other scenes are more just settings rather than actual locations and can't
really be distinguished as any specific place they are more just there for the
aesthetic. The TV room is very significant as that is where she is in the
present moment experiencing all the deja-vu through the screens. Within
those TVs, she ends up on the beach a lot, which connotes that it could have
been an important place for her and her ex in the past that has now been
interrupted.
6. Lighting
The video starts with high-key natural lighting. It reflects
the midday sun, then at the end, the lighting is a little
warmer to show the sun beginning to set in the evening.
The bright lighting creates an effective contrast against the
dimly lit scenes, that could represent the pettiness she now
feels versus the content feeling she felt when she was in
the relationship.
Mostly in the TV room there is dark lighting, that in this
scene is used to create a silhouette of her and the walls on
the sides of the shot. The only light is coming from the old
TV screens which dimly lights up the room around her. This
allows for the audience to focus on her, which is emphasised
by the fact she is centered in the shot. The only warmth from
this shot is the reflection of the yellow curtain onto the
room, which adds to the moody tone of the video.
7. Colouring The colouring in the music video, is quite retro but
bright. It is accompanied by filters that change the
colour of the scene. The black and white one is quite
fuzzy and feels like an old memory that is no longer
good. This then ties into the whole premise of the
song.
The purply-blue filter has quite a gradient effect, the
light from the video changes the colour that is on their
face and adds dimensions to the image. The filter
matched with the fast-paced clips adds to the glitchy
imagery that occurs throughout the video.
The whole music video is filled with very vibrant
colours, particularly in these scenes. The blue is very
striking and takes up a large proportion of what's on
the screen. The location itself is aesthetically pleasing
and so needs to be easily distinguished which the
colour helps to do.
The girl is wearing a bright pastel pink, which
compliments the blue well and adds a bit more to the
colour scheme. The spoon she is eating with is a hot
pink and is centredin the middle of the TV, so that is
where our eyes are most likely to be drawn. The spoon
is significant to the lyric in the song 'strawberry ice
cream in Malibu', so acts as a visual cue for that.
