2. 1. The main target audience for this
magazine is men aged between 30 – 50
years old. I have made this judgement
because I believe the colours used in it are
very manly colours and also the articles in
the magazine are articles which will appeal
to the male audience. Also, because the
title of the magazine is “Classic RocK” this
will appeal to people who are interested in
classic rock music.
3. 2. You are able to learn a lot of information
about the main target audience of people for
this magazine by just looking at the front cover.
For an example, by just looking at the titlec of
the magazine, you are able to make a
judgement of the fact that people who like to
read this magazine are interested in classic
rock music. As well, because of the type of
articles and pictures used on this front
cover, you are also able to make a judgement
of the age of people who read this magazine.
The colours used on this cover are very bold
and sophisticated colours, so this may mean
this magazine is an expensive magazine aimed
at people with a high income.
4. 3. The main genre and music for this
magazine is rock music. This is because of the
title of the magazine and also the articles and
pictures used for the magazine. As well, the
colours used on the page are colours you
may associate with rock music.
4. This magazine front cover has stuck to its
house style very well. It has used the same
fonts for all of its headlines and used the same
colours to. The colours used for the master
head are used all over the front cover. This
makes the magazine very sophisticated and
attractive to people who have a secure job
and who are interested in reading a good
magazine which provides a lot of information.
5. 1. The two magazine cover designs are
completely different. This is because both
magazines have different target audiences.
The layout and design of the “Top of the pops”
magazine is fun filled and aimed at young
aged girls aged between 13-17 years old. So
this means a attractive fun magazine cover will
appeal more to them compared to a boring
standard layout magazine cover. Compared
to “Classic RocK”, the “Classic RocK” magazine
front cover is bland and boring. However, this
type of layout suits the main target audience
for this magazine very well. This is because it is
very straight forward and easy to read and
understand and this will appeal to the older
generation of men.
6. 2. Comparing the two magazine
covers, the layout used on the “Top of the
pops” magazine is all over the place with
things over lapping other things.
Compared to the “ Classic RocK”
magazine cover of which that is
organised and easy to read and
understand. Both magazines would of
done this on purpose because of there
own different target audiences. For an
example, this magazine cover layout will
appeal to there target audience very
well because it is an attractive, bright and
fun looking magazine front cover which
will appeal very well to the main target
audience for this magazine.
7. 3. Both magazines music genres appeal to
different types of people. For an
example, the “Top of the pops” magazine
music genre is mainly pop music and what is
in the charts at the moment. This attracts
there target audience very well because the
age of people the magazine is aimed at are
very interested in to pop music and what
type of music is good at the moment.
Compared to “Classic RocK” of which the
main music genre is rock music. This appeals
to its own target audience very well because
the title of the magazine is very straight
forward and tells the reader about what type
of music this magazine is going to talk about
and be about.
8. 4. The music artist featured on
both magazine covers appeal to
both of there target audiences.
As well, the artist used for the
main picture works well because
they both go well with the main
music genre of the magazine.
This is because both magazines
have used music artist which will
appeal to there own different
target audiences.
9. 5. All the articles and special features
featured on both magazine front covers
are aimed at the magazines target
audiences. Both magazines are giving
away a free gift to anyone who buys the
magazine. The gifts are aimed at the main
target audience of people who would
read the magazine. For an example, the
“Top of the pops” magazine is giving
away free badges and posters which is
childish, compared the “Classic RocK”
magazine which is giving away a free CD
which is more mature then badges or a
poster.
10. 6. The techniques used in both
magazines are very cleaver because
they attract the reader into reading the
magazine because of the
colours, articles and free gifts included.
Both magazines have used reciprocation
because they have pulled the reader in
by advertising a free gift. One other
technique both magazines use is “Liking”.
This means because both magazines
appeal to there own target audience
very well, it means the readers of the
magazine will like everything about the
magazine and it will attract them into
buying it and reading it.
11. 7. Both magazines have headlines and
written captions written informally on the
magazine covers. This is because, short
snappy writing attracts more people to
magazines compared to long winded
paragraphs on covers. However, inside
both magazines I believe the “Top of the
pops” magazine will be written more
informally compared to the “Classic
RocK” magazine purely because of there
own different target audiences and what
will appeal to them.
