3. THE IMAGE
 Lady Gaga’s make up is very dramatic, especially around the eyes, the black eyeliner brings out her face and
tells the reader something about her as a person. For example, Lady Gaga is known for being a dramatic and
creative artist, this is shown through the clothes she has been dressed in, the draping clothes e.g. the dress shows
her creative side. Also her hair is extremely wild, again showing what kind of artist she is, it makes you want to
look at it in every detail and think about how she has achieved this look. This follows the conventions of a
magazine as you would aspect an image to say something about an artist and what they are about as a person.
 Furthermore, her facial expression is very sexual which draws a reader in as you want to know what she has
spoken about in her article. Her lips are posed in a way to suggest she is about to tell you something which again
makes a reader want to look at her in every detail, also it adds to the dramatic effect of the picture. The way she is
looking at you with her eyes, implies she is wanting you to read her article, also it suggests she is being seductive
which adds to her dramatic pose. This follows the conventions of a magazine as you need an image to say
something to you, you want it to add a sense of character to the article and give it a theme, in this case its
dramatic.

4. THE IMAGE
 Lady Gaga, has been posed in a way that implies she is trying to draw you in but she is trying to say
something about herself also, which follows the conventions of a magazine. She is making direst eye contact which
the reader which makes you think she is directing you to the magazine, this follows the conventions as it makes
you as a reader that she is making it personal to you.
 Also, her hands are positioned in a way which implies she wants you to think a certain thing, it said’s a lot
about her as artist and a person. It suggests she is a confident persona and wants people to be aware of that, again
it adds to the dramatics of the image. Also it matches the look she has in her eyes, which follows through with the
article, however this also tells us what kind of target audience they are aiming for, they are clearly looking more for
young teenagers, to adults, because you would not have that kind of image in a magazine that is aiming at younger
children.. This follows the conventions of a magazine as you get a sense of character and persona from the model
and you understand what the effect is.
 Also, it is clear that the magazine have used an effect on the image to make it black and white, this adds and
vintage idea to the article and ties in with the clothes she is wearing . This follows the conventions as it allows you
to get a sense of theme from the article and makes it more fun to look at and read.

5. TEXT
 The magazine have used a graphic letter ‘L’ to fill the right hand side of the page which makes the
double page spread look more interesting to look at, also it sets the piece in context because it is about
Lady Gaga, the ‘L’ makes it all link together. This follows conventions because the use of a drop cap is
used in every magazine it sets out where the start of the piece is, also it’s the only coloured letter on the
page which makes it pop out at you on the page because it stands out against the white background.
Furthermore the magazine have made the letter ‘L’ the same font as their magazine ‘Q’ which makes a
link and flow all the way through the magazine.
 The rest of the text in the article is in a standard chalkboard font and is most likely at a size 12,
which is really conventional for a magazine because it allows you to read the text properly and get a really
understanding for what the article is about. Also it allows you to fit all the writing on one page, They use
a black bold font type for a start of a new paragraph, which again sets the start.

6. COLUMNS
 The magazine have used 3 columns which is conventional for a magazine as it doesn’t over power
the page, and defines a layout and makes it easy to follow. You will notice that the alignment on the right
is messy and the text on the left is aliened and neat this makes it easy to read without being boring to
look at, which follows the conventions of a magazine.
 You will see, that the body text is black on white this is conventional for a magazine, also the text
doesn’t go right up to the edge of the page but the image does this is conventional as if the text went
right up to the edge of the page it would make it extremely hard to read.

7. HEADLINE
 The headline is fairly unconventional for such a popular magazine, it’s not much
bigger to the body text, this makes it hard to notice on the page. It’s font makes it appear
vintage which helps tie the whole article together. However the font makes it appear hand
written which in turn adds a personal feel the article and helps draw attention to the
article, and although it is unconventional it fits the article because everything about the
article has meaning and only having the ‘L’ big and colourful makes the article appealing
and adds a theme. The editor has used two fonts on the headline, the ‘GAGA’ is in bold
and capitals, therefore it does not get lost on the page but it noticeable to the reader, also
it ties in with the article with the fonts that are used at the start of every new paragraph.

8. THE LAYOUT
 The magazine have included a index tab, this follows the
conventions of a magazine as it helps define to the reader who the
article is about.
 The magazine have not used a pull quote this is because it is not an
interview and it would be impossible to use one unless you pulled one
from her twitter, or social media accounts but it would ruin the effect
of the article.

10. HEADLINE
 This magazine has used a pull quote as their headline, it adds to the theme of this
article as this article appears to be really rocky and edgy. The graphics they have used
makes it appear as if someone has cut letters out of a newspaper which again adds to the
edgy theme of the magazine. The headline takes up most of the page and is not aliened
for example it crosses over two pages, this is unconventional for a magazine as it crosses
between the fold line and can make it hard to read. It appears extremely rough, which
makes you want to know about what the artist talking about.
 Also the words used give you sense of what the artist is like, “people think” implies
she has a rumour to clear up which draws people in because they want to know.

11. THE IMAGE
 The image was clearly taken as part of a photo-shoot, it has been cut out for effect and placed just
across two pages, the short black hair and thick eyeliner makes her look edgy and rocky which follows
the theme of the article, the only bright colour on the page is coming from the clothes she is wearing, the
shirt makes her appear casual and clearly doesn’t want to say much about herself through the clothes she
is wearing. The pose in which she has been placed, suggests she is saying the quote to you, her hands
placed on her hips implies she wants to get her point across, her body language is open which implies she
implies she isn’t a horrid person. The fact she is the only bit of colour on the page makes her stand out
on the page and draws your attention to her. This is conventional for a magazine as they always want the
attention to be on the artist they are covering in that issue, because the black of her hair and make up is
next to the headline it makes the writing and artist seem bolder.

12. TEXT
 There are 4 columns used in this article which is conventional for a magazine as it
allows a reader to follow the text through properly without a struggle, this is due to the
text being messy on the right and neat on the left. The body text is black on white this is
conventional for a magazine as you can read it easily, for example if it was a harsh colour
like yellow it would be difficult to read. The font is again a size 12 which seems to be
conventional for most magazines because it allows you to fit a lot on but not make it too
small, also the drop tab is about a size 16 and in a bold font which makes it clear to
understand where the article starts, again following the conventions. The font is a
standard Garamond font which allows easy reading.
