2. The bold masthead is at the top of the
page in front of the model, which could
symbolize that the magazine is more
important than the star, it could also
suggest that there is more to the magazine
than the featured star in this issue.
The red and black colour scheme is quite seductive as
these colors symbolize love and lust but also danger. All
of these colours create intrigue into reading he
magazine.
The outfit also contributes to the seductive nature of the cover.
Her clothing being black and the details on the corset further
contributes to the dangerous and seductive side and this style is
quite rock chic. The pale jacket however reduces this factor as
the frilly details creates a younger feel which contrasts the
seductive nature and intrigues the reader more to find out the
style of this article.
The masthead has a pattern
beneath it which makes the
magazine appear glamourous
compared to the static colour of
most magazines.
The thick black makeup and pose of the star
also contributes to the seductive vibe. The dark
rims around the eyes draws the readers
attention in and highlights the eyes against her
pale hair. This could also be considered a direct
gaze. The posture of the star is further intriguing
as her face is in the background behind her hair
and arm which could suggest there is hidden
secrets creating a feel of intrigue.
The medium shot of this image highlights the
idea that the face isn't the most important
aspect but the fashion as the stars outfitis the
main aspect of this image.
The vague subheading referencing the
other articles in this magazine keeps the
attention focused on the main article of
the star.
The use of a plug advertising a possible give away appeals to
the reader and encourages them to buy the issue with an
opportunity of a prize. The bold red colour immediately draws
attention to the plug further drawing the reader in.
The camera angle enables the model
to be looking directly at the camera
in a seductive way. This direct mode
of address further draws in the
readers attention.
3. The lighting is focused on the model on the page. With a gradual
change in lighting vertically down the page. The spotlight on the
women draws the reader’s attention to her which is the main
point of interest on this page. It also suggests this woman is the
main feature in the magazine without detailing in words, keeping
the article minimalistic.
The male gaze is evident in this pose. The model’s
pose is highly sexualized, appealing to each gender.
Males’ interest would stereotypically be due to the
model’s outfit and pose. The males’ gaze would be
drawn to the parts of the body, the extended legs
and bottom and her chest, which is genuinely a
point of interest with men. This would appeal to
women as it is a very seductive pose which would
make women envious, prompting her as a reader to
continue reading.
The masthead’s cold and font contrasts the minimalistic
background and stands out against the black
background. Drawing the readers attention to the title
of the page. The text is justified to the right of the page
which allocates more space on the page to the picture
of the model.
The models outfit is also extremely sexualized, the colour of the bodysuit is a nude, skin
shade which could possibly symbolize either a raw and venerable feel to the interview or the
pale shade is to attract your gaze to her legs and sexualized objects i.e. her legs rather than
her outfit.
The contents page doesn't include much writing which
contributes to the minimalistic theme. It also may appeal to older
audiences as they have a wider attention span and the lack of
writing with a smaller font draws the reader in.
The minimalistic colour scheme could appeal
to an older audience as it lacks the bright and
in your face set up which child or teen
magazine. It is a relaxing colour scheme
which could give busy adults a relief from
their busy lifestyle with a relaxing setting.
The shot angle of the model high angle indicates the reader
has dominance over the model and could feel superior over
her. The focus of this angel is her accentuated legs, this could
induce further sexual appeal and create pleasure by looking at
her. This could appeal to both gendered audiences supported
by Mulvey's Gaze theory of how media is genuinely viewed
through the perspective of a heterosexual male. Therefore, as
an audience you see a very sexual object.
The model’s heeled shoes could also spark some sexual
arousal as heels are seen as very. The placement of her
feet are closer to the centre of the page which you would
see when you first view the page. Therefore the first
detail of the model seen could be her sexualised shoes.
4. Lady Gaga’s image takes up
a whole A4 page which
signifi9es her importance in
this article, that the article
is focused on her.
The lack of title in this
article possibly implying
that thiks artticle is more
about her as an artist than
her story as there is no
title.
The small font and large quanitity
of writing would suggest that this
magazine and article’s tartget
audience isof those of an older
audience as older audiences have
larger attention spans which
enables them to read a whole
article.
The image of Lady Gaga is a very
provocative image which intends
to arouse the interest of the
reader. Her pose could be
deemed sexualized as her hands
are covering her naked torso
which could symbolize her
interview is very personal,
further suggested by the black
and white tone of this image
and perhaps close to her as she
is essentially venerable and
naked in her issue. Yet the image
is also very glamourous with he
outfit and colour tone portraying
the magazines glamourous vibe.
Her outfit is very minimal as it
only consists of a dense necklace
which arouses more interest as
the outfit is sexy and may appeal
to the male eye. It could also
appeal to the women readers as
they could aspire to arouse the
same sexuality.
Lady Gaga’s makeup is quite minimal and elegant
whilst being quite bold too. The main feature of
her makeup would be her eye makeup which is
bold and immediately draws attention to the stars
eye.
The shot of this star is a
medium close up highlights the
idea that the Lady Gaga is the
main focus and that her body,
whilst being included in the
image isn't that important. This
could represent that her mind is
more important than her body,
spreading a positive message.
The drop capitals which are
throughout this article is usually at
the beginning of the article
however here there are a few
which could suggest that there are
numerous topics within this
article, indicating this article is
more in depth than usual
magazines.
The colour scheme of this article is very simple and minimalized. The black and white colours indicate elegance and simplicity of this article but also the
raw nature of this issue as there is no filters or colours to deceive anyone. The large red ‘L’ which covers the article draws the readers attention to the
actual article instead of the image which encourages the readers to engage with he article and read. The colour of the ‘L’ could symbolizes love and
danger which could potentially present in the article. The letter is also a representation of the Q Magazine name.
The small symbol in the
corner of the magazines
logo suggests that
although the article is
about Lady Gage, the
magazine is still
important.
The direct mode of addressed
used through her eyes further
intrigues readers to read the
article.
