  17. Daily Warm Up Movements—In creative movement class, students are taught a basic warm up routine. We do this at the beginning of each class….stretching out each muscle group and preparing to dance. Movements executed from teacher led sequences—these are sequences that I choreograph and teach the students. I am usually incorporating particular dance elements that I want the students to master. They learn and perform these movements for performance test grades. Dance of other cultures—this year I am covering this objective using project work. Students are to type a paper, giving the audience an understanding of this particular dance. They then have to illustrate at least 2 counts of eight—showing movements of this cultural dance. They also have to illustrate this dance through a different type of media. Dance using themes—interdisciplinary units—Example—student choreography using vocabulary words. Students are covering abstraction in dance by creating a sequence using at least 5 vocabulary words from one of their core classes. Example—from language arts (read self reflection) Mrs. McConnell’s genre project—she does a multigenre project on a person, topic or theme that the students choose. Dance connected with other art forms—Stories to music—with Drama teacher. After school rehearsals—
  18. Student choreography with given criteria—students are given criteria as well as a rubric with dance elements and concepts that need to be executed in a sequence. Here are examples of our most recent student movement studies. Students were paired by genders and had to incorporate weight shift in the movements as well as space usage and unison work. All group members must master the counts with the music—which was a contemporary drum piece.   19. FITNESS FRIDAYS— Our principal is very supportive of physical activity in our school. We talked at the end of the year last year and decided I would add a fitness piece to my class. I decided to incorporate fitness each Friday. Here are some of the activities we do—I have just started going into the gym with the PE classes as well as the strength and conditioning classes.
